3041  Other / Meta / Re: New rank idea: Bounty Member on: July 21, 2018, 09:50:40 AM
I think a better idea would be what I suggested recently in that to become a Junior Member you would require at least some merit received (at the minimum 1). That way, if they don't get any merit they would remain a newbie indefinitely and be confined to being a bounty member by default.

Also, I think we should look at removing signatures completely from some of the lower ranks. If we made it so you only got a signature once you became a Member/Senior or above then you would only be able to earn here monetarily once you had earned your right to rise through the ranks. This would stop shitposters signing up here just to earn by posting one liners constantly. A lot of the new sig spammers here will never make it past Junior Member because of that but most crapcoin campaigns will accept them and pay for whatever they post and this is a huge issue.

3042  Other / Meta / Re: Disable signatures/bounties til a user reaches full member status. on: July 21, 2018, 09:44:10 AM
What about changing the paying mode for signature campaigns, why should you pay a legendary or a hero shit poster more and pay a jr or member with a quality posts less amount? Why not making it based on the quality of the posts? and for the spam, unconstructive posts just pay nothing and ban the shitty poster from your future campaigns if he keeps posting shit for 2 or 3 weeks

Because the pay scales are based on the size of the signature you have and those get larger then higher the rank you have. Shitposters shouldn't be getting paid at all, but lazy campaigns don't care about anything other than their advert being spammed everywhere. Besides, what campaigns pay is out of the hands of the forum and up to the individual campaigns. If they want to pay all ranks the same they can, but this probably won't happen for obvious reasons.
3043  Other / Meta / Re: How to contact theymos (or cyrus) outside this forum? on: July 21, 2018, 09:39:34 AM
I have the need to contact Theymos or Cyrus outside of this forum, I was wondering if someone knows any way.

The only way to contact theymos outside of the forum is by using the bitcoin batsignal:

My theory is that they are filtering PMs and that they are not reading mine. I posted every two weeks and did never spam, now I will start to PM more often because I'm getting nervous about the lack of any response, but as said I fear they are not reading fore some reason (I suppose not intentionally but for some technical error).

I don't think they're being filtered but rather just ignored due to time constraints. Theymos hasn't being restoring accounts at all for some time it seems, but sadly, this also seems to be the same case with cyrus now. Unless one of them starts doing it more actively or someone else is given access to restore accounts then it's probably just not going to happen.

The only way to contact theymos outside the forum is by emailing him. I'll give you the email in case you need it, will back in a few minutes.
EDIT: This is theymos recovery/hacked report email: acctcomp15@theymos.e4ward.com, he probably has a lot of emails, but I just know that address.

You've probably got more chance of contacting him via PM to be honest. I would only contact theymos as a last resort regarding accounts though, and just PM cyrus once a week instead, but even this seems to be futile right now.
3044  Other / Meta / Re: Most "generous" merit giver,I found till now on: July 21, 2018, 09:28:44 AM

he gave 50+20+20+10+7 merits to the posts, which are deleted by the moderator.

They might not have necessarily been deleted by a moderator. If the user deletes their posts then it will also say this. I think if a post is removed either by staff or the user themselves then the merit should be removed also as it can be used to hide abuse. I have seen QuestionAuthority (amongst others) merit posts that have in fact been copy and pastes before. It would be quite easy to copy someone else's very informative or helpful post or article from elsewhere then just delete it once if has been merited and get rid of the possibility of the abuse being uncovered at some point.
3045  Other / Meta / Re: Is this necessary? on: July 21, 2018, 09:22:20 AM
Look at this user: tharoosta - http://archive.is/c9vT6

I found him on this page: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4554694.0

He is always including a telegram logo, a big image with his comments. It really looks annoying.

My eyes are hurting after reading this guy.

You can report users like that as having advertisements/banners outside of signature isn't allowed.

PS: Why don't I see any image when I click preview? Please click here to see the image of the above user.

You can't post images as a Newbie due to abuse. You can purchase a 'copper membership' for a small fee to be able to do so or just wait until you become a Junior Member.
3046  Other / Meta / Re: Thanks for the info guy on: July 21, 2018, 09:16:41 AM
Just report one post and leave a comment that all his posts are like this and the account will be nuked (or banned if it's a higher rank than Newbie). I suppose we could implement a button on someone's profile like 'report this account' but it's not really needed when you can just report their posts.
3047  Other / Meta / Re: Require a small amount of merit to become a Junior Member on: July 21, 2018, 09:10:12 AM
I understand that the spammers and bot are a bigger issue than a regular person getting a merit to be a Jr. member. But what I'm saying is that I'm a regular person, having regular conversations, posts, and so on. Even though I understand that the spammers and bot are a major  issue, I'm just trying to bring light how this really messes up a regular person.

How does it mess people up? People should earn their ranks. If you can't contribute anything merit worthy then you should remain at a Newbie rank. Asking for one merit to become a Junior is not a ridiculous proposition. The other ranks are much higher.

The difficulty is such now that instead of developing through natural conversations, I have to go above and beyond and create really amazing posts. Most regular people are not going to have that ability. So you can see how it hurts the regular person the most.

Above and beyond?  Roll Eyes. I'm really sorry that you now have to put a little effort into your posts and can't just rise through the ranks with generic one/two line posts. People are tired of having to read nonsense by lazy idiots who are only here to earn and do so by posting crap all over until they get the rank they want. If you can't get merit then you shouldn't move up ranks. People shouldn't be allowed to just come here and write "I like bitcoin because it helps me with my daily needs" 30 times and then become a Junior Member. Earn that title by posting something worthwhile, but if you don't then you should remain a Newbie.

Like I know I can go back and improved what I just said if I spend a lot more mental effort and time going over and looking at how I can better express my point. But now instead of being natural and a regular person, I'm forcing myself, using more mental energy, for the hope of getting a merit.

The cost, energy that one has to use for hopefully getting a merit puts us at a disadvantage.

Well maybe this is the problem here. Laziness or 'lack of energy' shouldn't be rewarded. If you lack energy to post on a message board then I wouldn't suggest finding something less tiring to do or just stick to collecting bounties until you've earned the right to move up ranks.

That means the majority of this forum can't write meaningful posts, isn't it?
Correct. Out of more than 2 million accounts, less than 1% has received 1 or more Merit points.
The majority of users are either spambots or bounty hunters/account farmers with dozens of accounts.

Why are they not banned then ? Is it because the forum needs them for some reason or another ?

Bots are banned once spotted or reported, but their accounts still remain in the database, they just can't do anything with them. Alts are allowed by the forum as long as it's not to evade a ban or something else malicious.

3049  Other / Meta / Re: Negative trust everywhere on: July 20, 2018, 11:37:40 AM
Any feedback that is left should be taken on a case by case basis and each person should read feedback left/received and make up their own mind whether they want to participate in that particular bounty run by them. Most of them have negatives after they started running the campaigns for whatever shadiness or incompetence they did. There are a lot of unscrupulous people looking for campaign management jobs for numerous reasons: 1) Extra payment for running them (and for a lot of them it's little to no work: post the thread and then pay the spammers at the end of it). 2) Siphon off money to your alts. 3) Run off with the funds if they ever get trusted with a substantial amount.

People don't like negative trust users because they don't want scammers advertising them. Would a brand want a disgraced athlete or criminal promoting their products? Nope. They usually get fired or lose contracts after even the whiff of a scandal because to be associated with them is potentially bad for business.

This was posted yesterday:

This would be a tough game.
Belgium and France both plays aggressive game while both of their defenses are still to be tested.
I think France has a better defense but they are poor in finishing the goal shot which is better with belgium.
+2.5 goal seems safe bet for the game.
Now just see what is happening in today match either Belgium wins or France I will enjoy the match because my favorite team is out of the event, alas! However I am going to enjoy these matches which will play between Belgium and France besides which another one is in between Croatia and England. These matches will decide the FIFA winner and I can not wait any more for it just 4 days more and then final.

On first glance nothing may appear out of the ordinary. Until you realise he's looking forward to the semi and final of a tournament that has been over nearly a week. Maybe he's a time traveller or maybe he lives in some very distant country/planet that has a timezone that is nearly two weeks behind everyone else.

I am an instrumentalist and i trade in bitcoin. There are certain times i do not get time to play the for the congregation and I am always with my laptop looking at the market prices. Do you think it is the best action to take?

There is one more problem here. I've already seen algorithms that do posts in social networks, collect links to a file and publish the report to the forum! All you need to do is to monitor its correct operation, hundreds of campaigns or farm accounts. The application to which I watched the video, even allowed to connect dozens of different accounts of the same twitter or fb. This unfortunate tendency, because everything is already there on this forum and is actively sold Sad Often posts that go after the end of the campaign or with violations of conditions are likely to be made by such systems
Why not enter account binding to a phone number and add a captcha as a bonus to reduce the amount of spam? Of course, this will not get rid of the problem, but still, I think, will reduce the number of bots.

As theymos once said, "there's more chance of hell freezing over". Does requiring a phone number stop all the fake g-mail/facebook/twitter bots/accounts being made? Nope. There are people who's business it is to sell phone numbers just for this purpose, but the people who are going to abuse accounts here will just keep abusing them still by buying multiple sim cards or using such spam services I already mentioned, so all you're doing is just annoying all the other genuine users who don't want to give out their telephone number to be able to use a web forum. Also, there is already a captcha here but it's not very good. I wouldn't be against new users having to fill out a captcha for their first couple of posts though but again, they can easily be bypassed and are annoying for genuine users.
3054  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestions to improve bitcointalk.org on: July 19, 2018, 02:49:28 PM
1. Smerit limit per post. Earning merits is generally hard, which makes them valuable on this forum. However, some people receive 15 or 20 merits for a single post, while others have only 15 merits, which they earned slowly from different people and for different posts. I think it would be better to make it impossible to send more than 5 merits for a specific post by one person. So, if the post is really good, then it can earn about 20 merits, but those merits must be sent by at least 4 different people.

I wouldn't necessarily be against limiting the amount of merit you can give a post, but on the flip-side it's much easier to spot abuse when 20-50 merits are given to shitposts.

2. Maximum 2 merits per post per merit sender in local boards. I think that people usually trade merits in small threads in local boards, because the moderation there is not as strict as in the English sections of this forum. If one can send 5 merits for a post written in English, I think it is fair that only 2 merits can be sent for a non-English post.

It's already much more difficult to get merit in the local boards, but again, it's easier to spot abuse when huge amounts of merit are being given for mediocre posts.

3. No Signature campaigns without escrows. I know that scamming on signature campaigns is not common, but why not to make it impossible? Most of legit campaigns escrow the funds anyway, so I guess making it a must should not be a problem.

What if the escrow then runs off with the funds? I doubt this is something theymos wants to get involved with directly and is better left to the community to police. If you think a campaign is shady  and there's no guarantee they will pay then leave them appropriate or a warning feedback.

4. No Signature campaigns for projects with bad reputation. Betcoin.ag accounts had red trust on this forum due to the infamous jackpot scam, but they were still advertising themselves for at least a year after that incident. I think it would be fair to forbid scamming projects to advertise themselves on this forum.

Again, this is something for the community to police as the forum doesn't moderate scams. But who would get to decide what is a sufficiently bad reputation? There are worse casinos than Betcoin.AG, but if you feel people are advertising scams then leave them appropriate feedback.

5. No ANN threads for shady ICOs. We all know the statistics on ICOs. While I find the general idea very appealing, the fact that most of ICOs are scamming people harms the reputation of the crypto market. I think there should be some requirements every ICO has to meet to officially enter bitcointalk.org. Among such requirements I would name an official website with a whitepaper, team and roadmap listed on it.

Again, who get's to decide the shadiness of the ICO? Just because an ICO has a website and roadmap etc doesn't make them legit. I wouldn't be against some restrictions being placed on ICOs, and I think charging them to list their project here would help and at least cut down on those who spend absolutely zero on their ICOs so there's nothing for them to lose by scamming.

6. Rank requirement for signature campaign managers. Sometimes people with zero trust on Member or perhaps even a Junior Member rank lead signature campaigns. I think that people need experience on the forum to be Signature campaign managers. They need to know what it considered good post quality and what is bad; in which topics participants should not be welcomed to post; which projects mainly prefer specific forum sections and childboards etc. It truly seems strange to me when a Member decides which Legendary members to accept to a specific campaign. From my experience they usually don't bother making hard decisions, so they simply accept the first ones who applied. Anyway, I suggest that only people with membership rank of Senior Member and higher are allowed to lead Signature campaigns. I guess we should exclude copper members here as well, but I am not sure about that.

Rank means little here. Any rank can be bought and for a few hundred dollars you can robably get yourself a Hero account. A Newbie account could probably run a better campaign than some of the Legendary managers around here, but people who run bad campaigns should be tagged appropriately regardless of rank.

3055  Other / Meta / Re: How do you feel about the zoo ? Is is shill training or alt breeding ? on: July 19, 2018, 10:00:21 AM
They're obviously just farmers. Someone has nuked them.

Seems a couple were missed though:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2143122     MichaelTuttle May 21, 2018
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2142875     SanfordJoe May 21, 2018

You can tell they're farmed accounts by their behaviour and other such giveaways. Same formatted usernames and same registered date and all post in the same threads.

If you see users making posts exclusively in spam threads in off topic like the above then just report them and they'll be nuked.

I think we should remove signatures from all accounts until you become a Senior or Hero or something. This sort of shitposting farming will probably stop then once you have to get merit. All those accounts need is to become a Junior Member which they will hit within a month if not spotted.
3056  Other / Meta / Re: Disable signatures/bounties til a user reaches full member status. on: July 18, 2018, 04:00:24 PM

In my opinion, this will not be a victory! Since a person who has bought himself a rank, will continue to do what he did when he was lower!

No, but it stops all the new spammers signing up just to shitpost immediately and there are desperate crapcoin campaigns that will even accept newbies. This shouldn't be allowed. If you wanted to solve your issue though you could just make the merit requirements be retroactive. All users start from zero merit and you don't get a signature until you've earned the required merit for that rank. That would solve the issue of shitposting account farming.
3057  Other / Meta / Re: Newbies are not the only issue on Bitcointalk! on: July 18, 2018, 10:11:17 AM
Ok, this could be unpopular opinion but i'm speaking my mind here and i'm not out to cause trouble or start mud slinging here...but this NEEDS to be said!

As stated in the title Newbies are NOT the only problem here!

I don't think anyone claimed they were the only problem, but everyone stats off as a Newbie, so that is where the issues start. I don't think people should transcend from Newbie unless they've received at least one merit, otherwise all that rank means is you've been here a month. I think if ranks are based on merit then you've at least earned your rank here. If you're a Newbie with 1000 posts and no merit then I think that says a lot.

The last statement to me implies utter contempt to 'newer' members and that anyone new here is of no importance. I'm sorry but i have as much right as anyone else to be here. Yes there are people who've been here longer than i and built this place to what it is, i just don't think it gives someone the right to be judge, jury and executioner just because you rank higher.

I'm only using this as an example of MANY other negative and quite often vindictive behaviour toward other members.

I don't think anyone has made such claims that "newer members are of no importance". Everyone starts off as a newbie, but it's not surprising that people are getting annoyed at the sheer volume of clueless people who are signing up here who have absolutely no interest in bitcoin other than their friend/neighbour/bother/sister told them they can earn by posting nonsense here. And post nonsense they do. Do we really need another thread just asking "bounty or airdrop?", or "is bitcoin going to 0/1/10/100/1 million dollars? No.

And as you can see....i always make lengthy posts!  Wink

Lengthy isn't always good. Often it's better to make posts concise to get your message across.

I completely agree. If a newbie makes a good post here in meta, the comments are like "Whose alt is this ? " .

Oh the irony.

Shotted from 6000$ range to 7500$ in few hours after Bloomberg announced that BlackRock is looking to invest in cryptocurrencies

And their CEO has denied that. I doubt the spike has anything to do with that, but if it did it'll probably just fall an as fast as it rose once the 'news' tuns out to be fake.

3059  Other / Meta / Re: Require a small amount of merit to become a Junior Member on: July 17, 2018, 07:34:50 PM

Why such users cannot be banished without the right to restore accounts. There are rules of the forum-it's like a Constitution. Who its violates the ban. Social networks don't stand on ceremony - broke rules - have a rest. Here it is time to enter such system long ago-users arrive every day to garbage becomes more and more.

They are banned when spotted. The trouble is they have hundreds if not thousands of accounts stockpiled and ready to use, and as Loyce said bellow you can't really win a war against automation. The biggest weapon we have against them is a simple captcha and that can obviously be bypassed very easily. Without putting in more hurdles to jump through you can't really do anything about it, but that just annoys or penalises everybody else in the process (and bots don't get annoyed).

Couldn't find their names on their bounty spreadsheet either: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4501947

They are there in bounty spreadsheet. Check in the signature spreadsheet. Entry #137,138 and 139 . (I guess you might have used the browser "Find" tool which doesn't works in case of Google sheets. Google sheets have their own "Find" tool which works properly)

Someone already reported the same earlier : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4605957.msg41585795#msg41585795

I did use the browser search, but I still can't see them listed anywhere. The signature spreadsheet only goes up to 98 as well so not sure if I'm viewing the right one: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-xmj9lxOTEyztvMW0cpjcRAs12Cs7zrJgVy-0Wnb9Xk/edit#gid=1130732805
