321  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: [Problem] Bitmain S1 VAT in the UK on: January 04, 2014, 01:05:34 PM
The VAT thing is very complicated, even though after trying to read the HM Revenue & Customs page.

Why can UK be like HK, no VAT what so ever (HK = paradise).
My latest was USD 120.00 which came to £39.04 VAT.

Those that choose the USD 1,900.00 option instead will pay far more.
So what do bitmain declare their S1 value?

Thanks

£39.04 VAT is quite expensive... But why do people choose the USD1,900 one when we can pay less by choosing the lower declared value?

They choose it because they are covered with insurance if the package doesn't arrive.

I think that they are worried that the tax authorities might do them for fraud.

An interesting point that Beastly bring up as non-delivery has not been brought up to my knowledge on the threads with Bitmain or Sushi. As Bitmain sent the parcel only they can claim any insurance, and it is their responsibility to see that the parcel is delivered, so the receiver would not care what the value is on the package. The sender might but then I wonder what the real cost price plus shipping would be for an S1, $120, any other guesses?

I confirmed it tonight - the F43 bios does nothing for me other than change the numbers in GPU-Z. Actual measurements directly from the card stay exactly the same.

 Sad

What rpm are your fans at?
323  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAIN Antminer support and OverClocking thread on: January 04, 2014, 10:53:54 AM
S1 Overclocked to 400MHz. 204GH/s 12hr avg.
...
--------------------------------------------------------------
So how do I actually set up the pool in miner configuration for the 180gh AntMiner?
I don't really have any numbers to enter in there, I normally do stratum+tcp://stratum.mining.eligius.st:3334 (I don't think wzkid likes to give out actual ip numbers)
Then my address for my worker, and x for password.

But, it does not seem to be taking it. The little spinner just sits there and spins, says applying changes to  /etc/config/cgminer     and nothing happens.
I also have a red "unsaved changes = 1" at the to right, no idea what this means....   dhcp.cfg06f37d=domain

I imagine you have this sorted by now but http://stratum.mining.eligius.st:3334 works for eligius with an S1
Click on Unsaved Changes then Save & Apply.

Eligius works with S1's using the normal URL

PSU splitter- http://www.moddiy.com/products/Power-Supply-ATX-20%252dPin%7B47%7D24%252dPin-Cable-Y-Splitter.html

Of course your MB probably needs a 4pin connector as well so you would have to look for a Molex to 4pin which are available on ebay

So if you power on the 1st motherboard but not the second then the second motherboard will still receive full power even though its switching circuit will expect it to be off, I suspect that a few motherboards will have a problem with that electrically.

I forgot to mention it, but these environment variables are already set on both machines.

Do you have CCC overdrive turned on or off and how much memory do you have in each system?

Hey,

I am currently using a 1500W PSU which only got one 24 pin connector.
Is there any adapter or another way how I could plug in another motherboard?
I don't want to buy another PSU and when I first bought this one I didn't really think about that 1500w uses a lot... >.<

And I've got another question.
I've got one spare PCIex1 slot on my motherboard, can I use a PCIe Riser x1 to x16 and then use another GPU on that ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Is there any adapter or another way how I could plug in another motherboard? - Not without great difficulty, it would be cheap to buy a 2nd PSU

I've got one spare PCIex1 slot on my motherboard, can I use a PCIe Riser x1 to x16 and then use another GPU on that ? - Yes, but it needs to be a powered riser for the later cards.

Hi,

I am wondering how much is the VAT of the S1 in the UK. Im not sure how the VAT works, because Im not british. Since I'm from Hong Kong only in the UK for study, can I be exempt from paying VAT?

Thanks

Being British doesn't help with knowing how VAT works, its a frikken minefield!

Generally everything a company sells has VAT attracted to it unless that company sells less than approximately £79,000 per year but the calculation to see if the company qualifies is done quarterly.

If you import or export anything into or from the UK to or from an EEC country then there is no extra VAT to pay as there are double taxation agreements in place to stop VAT being paid twice.

If you import anything from anywhere else in the world then you have to pay VAT on the purchase price paid for the item at the rateable value for the item you are buying, normally 20%. If the seller claims it cost £1 but really cost £1,000 then the UK tax man can claim that you need to pay more to release the item or apply it retrospectively for decades afterwards.

Hi everyone.
...
Any thoughts or advice are welcome.

Either set the system environment variables for
   GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT    100
   GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS      1

reboot then run cgminer or create a batch file to set them and then run cgminer. Some motherboard BIOS requires the variable to be there other do not.
330  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: HD 7950 - really high power consumption on: January 03, 2014, 02:39:43 PM
I've tried but I still couldn't change the voltage in Gigabyte's OC guru or in cgminer.
After the bios flash, the voltage was lower in GPUZ but still the same power consumption and voltage at the core using a multimeter.

FYI, The F43 BIOS is from the Gigabyte site and is for the WF3 card, the warranty will not be invalidated.

You will not get the same performance on a Rev 2 card without the fans running at full power, they are nowhere near as good as the Rev 1.0 cards. My last Rev 2.0 card is in a 3 card rig with two Rev 1.0's. The Rev 1.0's are running at 650KH/s @ 72c with 3,000 rpm, the Rev 2 runs at 538KH/s @ 80c with the fan at 3,900 rpm just to get a viable set of watts at the wall
331  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Setup & Troubleshoot] Bitmain AntMiner S1 180GH/S miner on: January 03, 2014, 02:28:22 PM
cgminer don't execute write and quit...

Code:
'wq:' is not implemented
So how to safe within cgminer?

The command is :wq rather than wq:

I have just looked at the init.d script that FreeGiz posted about and he is spot on. Unless you add his change as well it will not work.
332  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: HD 7950 - really high power consumption on: January 03, 2014, 02:19:39 PM
Unfortunately I can't on my card, it is hardware locked.

Sounds like the card is a Rev 2.0 so use the F43 BIOS from Gigabyte's site, it will drop the voltage to 1.090.
333  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Hi, a couple of hardware questions from a new miner! on: January 03, 2014, 01:32:42 PM
Sounds like you have the cooling requirements under control, then. But you still need risers. Do a forum search on the benefits of getting powered risers.

Definitely!

You certainly can. Couple of ways this can be done, ineedit's advice is spot on.

Great news! I haven't known of this, would it be possible for some search terms to learn a bit on the different ways of achieving this? I'm unsure if it's a possibility...but I'm a bit afraid of burning my house down xD. If this is unwarranted then I can definitely understand why you guys recommend this, as I already have two other psus available this would definitely help in my power needs.

Try one of these http://www.amazon.com/Vantacor-Dual-Adapter-Cable-2-way/dp/B00DL3L2J6 or search for PSU paperclip. Regardless of your choice of solution, always power on the second PSU first.

So how to add the command

Code:
"load-balance": true
  Huh

Try         option more_options '--quiet --load-balance'

336  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Setup & Troubleshoot] Bitmain AntMiner S1 180GH/S miner on: January 03, 2014, 12:32:22 PM
Maybe somebody can help me here. I try to found via ssh the part of cgminer, where the pool data are saved. In knc i can chose in miner setup menu to "manual edit mode", but unfortunatelly Antminer don't have this option.

So i guess, this should be possible via ssh, right?

I want add the command
Code:
"load-balance": true

Anybody here with experience about ssh via putty and where to found the pool entrys in antminer?

The pool entries are in /etc/config/cgminer there is also an other-options where "--quiet" is entered. I would try adding it there.

Hi Sushi,

No tracking number received  Sad

Bump!

Forget the tracking number as UPS have been and the unit is hashing. Now I have to buy some sun glasses for the extra bright leds, I hope that they are not going to increase the watts at the wall  Grin

Eventually Bitcoin must die or crush any other currency system.

Using any other methods to store and trade value will become useless.

Never going to happen, people will always use other stores of value as a currency system, virtual currencies will only ever share the space.

Yes Sir, your gold, silver, barrel of oil, is now priced in Bitcoin, you can only use Bitcoin. Not a chance!

Bad pool luck and orphans....

I do not know the pool's architecture but is there a problem with the how quickly the pool can announce a discovered block to the blockchain?

Our orphan rate is the same/lower than other pools, and we've not had any of them in the last 48 hours.  Bad luck is completely out of anybody's control.  Additionally, the pool is overall lucky since luck began getting tracked beyond a single difficulty period.

People lose their heads when luck is bad, but nobody asks if the pool is broken when it's paying out 50-60% above what you'd expect, which is just as likely/unlikely as 50-60% below what you'd expect.

No worries, are the orphans displayed somewhere on website?

They're not separated from normal blocks since you don't know they're orphans when you first find them, and they're awarded to miners either way, so it doesn't exactly matter to the miner if its an orphan or not.

Some of the recent script updates have made it easier to match the orphans after the fact though, so I'll look into maybe italicizing the block number if it was an orphan.

UPDATE:  Orphans will now show up as 'Orphan' instead of a Block Number in the Block History (Pool Stats page).

That was a quick change eleuthria, I only spotted 1 in the 200 listed. This is the two main things I like about your pool, transparency and that you go the extra mile   Smiley
