Pardon if I am about to say something very illogical here, but is there any case of two altcoins merging into one for the better of both? It sounds like it would take a tremendous effort of organization.

No one is planning on using altcoins, no.  Not even Doge, or even Litecoin for that matter.  I work with a production company which contracts with multiple networks and distributors, so our clients are big names you've heard of and a 'background' names that you probably haven't. This is early stage research into how communities form around altcoins, or "coin-like systems" which would be a better way to put it, since the final product will be either something created specifically for a given show using something like an OpenTransactions framework, or else will be built on top of Bitcoin or Mastercoin or Ethereum, or something like protoshares.  This is at least 18 months out, so the market will not resemble the market then.  And the interest in "cons" is not in a particular con, but in gaining an overall sense of the various ways manipulation works in general in these communities.  For a game to work, the balance between creating a sense of big opportunity (i.e. "winning") has to be offset by curbing the possibility for abuse through manipulation, and examining this is what I am here for.  MEOW happens to be an interesting case due to it not being an obvious premine, but also not being an obviously fair-allocated coin either.  You (or the devs) are trying to repair something that might not be repairable, given the circumstances, and this is more interesting than seeing a badly-planned coin get outed (I posted in another thread about one of those, in case you think I am just here to beat up on poor little kitteh), or a sure success getting promoted. 

Seriously not trolling here, but I was wondering why this wasn't done from the start?  Is this a common thing in alts, making a coin with someone's identity and not telling them about it until the genie is already out of the bottle?

Expect a whole new category of lawyers who are going to specialize in prosecuting Altcoin devs, mining pool operators and exchanges if this keeps up, and this will draw a lot of heat from people with the means to make things a lot less fun around here.

I work in network TV, on gaming community planning for TV shows. There is a *lot* of interest in my world about what is going on with altcoins, and since a TV series's production costs are very expensive it cannot allow itself to be connected to something that can be scammed and manipulated easily.  You're right, I could have picked several other altcoins to observe, MEOW was somewhat randomly selected from a pool of 10 I narrowed down to (some of the others I am watching as well, but not involved in the forums - i picked one thats sure to be abused, and a couple that are sure to succeed , and one or two that i think are on the border, MEOW is one of those)

I posted a number of suggestions for donations/ charities a while back, which kicked off a number of other great suggestions - some even better than mine, which i think is a good thing, don't you?  This was *after* i sold too.  "Trolling" is the standard response every single altcoin early adopter gives in every single thread, when someone comes in with a different position than "MOON!".  And to be fair, a lot of them are trolls, because everyone's trying to take a bite out of everyone else.  Well if you think I am trolling you are speculating about my intentions. Fair enough, I claim yours are just as selfish and you cannot prove otherwise.  

So, all that is left are the facts, which can't change regardless of what someone's intention is.  The facts don't look great, evidenced by the manipulation going on.

Perhaps, but then you clearly are quite annoyed that this might cause the price to go down in the short term, so there's that too. If you are not one of these 'whales' people keep talking about then why would you be annoyed?  As a true believer, you're going to hold on to MEOW through this anyway, aren't you?

My job is making entertainment content around the community angle of virtual currency, so as far as one coin or another goes, I don't really care which ones succeed more than others and I am not an investor or speculator in alts in any significant amount.  I sometimes buy in a tiny sliver (MEOW was under 100k for me) so I can get a sense of what owning an alt feels like on a gut level, which better helps me gauge what is really happening in the community sentiment and makes me pay closer attention than otherwise.  I think MEOW's community is interesting because it's one of the alts that is situated near the border between success and failure (good community, but not big enough, the coin has been set back by drawbacks to adoption that others don't have but OTOH a cute charity / FB meme adoption angle that others don't have either), and I am very interested in seeing how it overcomes adversity if it does at all.  At the same time I know a lot of younger people are putting money that might be scarce into this and I don't like standing by watching them learn the hard way.    I know this is hard to imagine, but some people aren't here just to play altcoin lotto.

Do you think MEOW will still be around in 2 years and can be used to pay for things at the same level Bitcoin is today?  Because the fact that real market adoption has kicked in, a tiny tiny bit, is the only thing (and its an important one) keeping Bitcoin's value aloft.  If you truly think that will happen with MEOW then your logic is sound.  If not then it's just magical thinking. On the other hand, people said this would be true with LiteCoin, and FeatherCoin, and that was before there were 498 other altcoins out there, before every wek another 50 of them flood the market.  Trying to predict which of the zerglings survive the rush at the end is a roulette game.

200m MEOW is 96BTC at ~.00000049  average.   That's a year of not having to work, or a Tesla Model S, or an entire house in some areas - that you are giving this guy for nothing.  And 200m is only 10% of the MEOW out there bought at scam-level cheap.  

I know a lot of young people have never been conned before, so they don't know it coming when they see it, but it's helpful to remember that a "con"  is shorthand for "confidence trick" or "confidence game." In other words, the whole point is to make the person who is marked as a loser in the game feel confident that their view of what is going on makes sense, in order to get the most profit out them when they lose.

This is why I sold out a week ago (not that I had that much, it's more about the principle) - I am still interested in following MEOW because of the community growth process is what I am tracking more than the price, but come on folks.  The point of this relaunch was that there were mistakes made in the original release of the coin that allowed it to be almost instamined, so there are like 3 or 4  billion MEOW out there that were acquired for nothing or for close to 1 or 2 Satoshis.  The relaunch isn't going to remove any of those coins from the market as far as I can tell, and in addition it will cut the total number of coins by half, so all it does is make their coins at least twice as valuable than they were before! Now you want to *reward these cheaters* by *buying* their coins after doing them the favor of relaunching MEOW at possibly double its value?  I don't.  How can you realistically believe they aren't going to see the relaunch as d-day (for dump-day), given all this.  I think they should sit on them and watch as they drop under 10 satoshis, then they will finally sell for what little they can get, and they will already have missed their chance to get in on other coins the released in the meantime, with their money tied up in a MEOW cheat that didn't go anywhere.

Don't think for a second that one or more of these 'whales' aren't reading this very thread every day, and probably even trolling in it with optimistic, encouraging messages. A single message that makes people hold or buy in more MEOW could be worth an extra 10% profit to them, how can you not think this doesn't happen?  It's wishful thinking to believe that they won't come in here and act all astonished and tell everyone to keep hoping etc etc.  You should never rule out dishonesty as being a part of any *coin release, until you have actually thought through the whole thing and ruled it out by process of elimination.  You can't rule it out with MEOW.  To be fair you can't rule it out with any of them 100%, but the % is a lot lower than 100 with MEOW.  

The best you can hope for is to ask CoinedUp to delist MEOW altogether and crush the price to nothing.  Pull the rug out from under the scammers, let it cool off and see if you can relaunch for real in a couple weeks.  Or you can hope that somehow between now and Monday, more than 2,000,000,000 MEOW get sold off by whales (the dump today was only 10% of that number!)  and the price is back to something that is attractive for new buyers.

Probably the increasing visibility attracting negative attention from competing new coins trying to launch, which are getting increasingly frequent now that the first gen of coins aren't parabolic any more.

I don't think the cost has deterred people from buying into ASIC mining if the math shows it will profit.  The 70kh chips are shipping, in hands now and don't seem to be a hoax..  At 5w max draw, if someone clusters, say, 100 of these in a "mining pool in a box" solution  - 500w for 7GH/s, this is very _very_ good numbers for scrypt, considering a top of the line r290 only pulls like 0.8GH/s or so, at 350w for one card.  Mining using GPUs is going to become really unprofitable, really fast.

I'm not sure the best place to hide a secret re-launch of a coin was in the announcement thread of the altcoin sub on this board.

Also, Scrypt ASICs just started arriving in people's hands this week.  MEOW is not going to be the only coin to get murdered by these. There's going to be a great disturbance in the DOGE.

Hmmm... ok, fair enough.  Support should be directed towards places that will turn as much of it as possible into happy kittehs, rather than it being lost by mismanagement.  But on a purely practical level an ideal scenario is to help kittehs *and* maximize media exposure at the same time.  At the least there needs to be some way to get MEOW donated to whomever is chosen from these options, and for that website donate buttons are needed, and someone who can contact that donatee in their own country, ideally in person to walk them through it but phone is OK also, and we should tell them up front we are trying to raise visibility for MEOW and for crypto in general by doing this, don't hide that because it will backfire.

Ugh.   I might have to buy back in just so I can pledge some MEOW too, this would be a sweet gesture.  Who lives in the USA or better yet somewhere near this place, I think it is in Missouri (that's MO, right?)

Any graphic design types want to make a Donate MEOWs or Donate Kittehcoin button?  The shelter can collect MEOWs and then convert them to Bitcoin to use in Bitpay a week or two after launch day to give MEOW time to gain momentum. Then about 2 weeks or so after launch day, the final usa dollar amount collected would be used to promote MEOW *again* in forums and stuff, giving it an extra bump in visibility possibly even bigger than launch day itself.   Even if it's not $30,000, it's still going to be impressive.  The budget of a cat shelter is much smaller than an olympic bobsled team, and donations will go farther and do more good.   

4Chan animals board (is it  /a/ or  /an/, i don't remmeber)  would be a great place to start spreading this around on launch.
