321  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: amir taaki on bbc :( on: February 06, 2014, 04:15:46 PM
Yes, because professionals dress smart.

lol wtf

Well I'd rather have content and depth then some airhead who looks pretty.

Professional by what standard?.. Banksters dress smart and what have they given us?.. a wrecked economy but it's ok because they look nice. Do you judge your politicians on how they judge too??
322  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: amir taaki on bbc :( on: February 06, 2014, 04:10:02 PM
everything he said is right, im not sure what is the correct delivery....

From all angles.. get out there and do it in your own style. Bitcoin needs to reach all audiences.
323  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: amir taaki on bbc :( on: February 06, 2014, 04:08:20 PM
I thought he did a great job of talking about the root of Bitcoin and the opportunity it provides us.

Just because it wasn't the usual tedious soundbite and traditional chatter, it seems to have turned some people off.

I'd much rather see more of him than less. Talking of Bitcoin in simple ways that a lot of people do is frustrating. Amir gets it and does well to communicate that complexity.

What would you prefer.. another suit looking like a bankster!?
324  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What makes a transaction unique in-block? on: February 05, 2014, 05:12:37 PM
If a miner tried to duplicate payments in the block it would be invalid and the block would be ignored by all the other miners.

Thanks, I was hoping for it to be that simple.
325  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / What makes a transaction unique in-block? on: February 05, 2014, 03:49:43 PM
Can someone suggest, perhaps ELI5, how it isn't possible for a miner to see a transaction payment to themselves; duplicate it many times; and put those into a block that they confirm? That would be trying to suck the donating account dry, down to the modulus. How is each transaction unique, that miners cannot exploit them in the block they are creating? Obviously, trying that would still be a matter of luck in order they are the miner confirming the next block but still not clear to me, how it's not possible. I'm expecting that transactions can't be duplicated from one block to another because of some ?Merkle root signature of the existing tree or similar but how is in-block duplication prevented?
326  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin car wrap - London 2014 on: February 05, 2014, 03:24:22 PM
You could pitch this to ZipZap or one of the ATM providers? It's an easy route to stimulating interest. Redbull have done it for a while; theirs come with hot girls driving too.
327  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What kind of information about Bitcoin would be most helpful to you all? on: February 05, 2014, 02:52:34 PM
This is awesome feedback - thanks David. When you consider these features, which if any do you think you would be willing to pay for having access to?

Right now I'm considering offering this information for free to consumers, but as a compliance tool for institutions and businesses to utilize Bitcoin in a compliant, legal, and accountable way. If you have .02 on this idea as well would love your feedback.

I wouldn't be willing to pay unless it was a proven one of a kind reference.

For compliance and specialist services I expect would be case specific, and companies would fork out for something that was evidently skilled delivery from lawyers etc; so you charge professional fees for service for that.

For the providing information that's useful and necessarily a goto for everyone interested in Bitcoin, I expect that would have to be free to access, at least initially. You could certainly get away with paid advertising and prime placement in any listings.. text by default and eye-catching image etc for a fee. For free might draw the critical mass obviously.
328  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has Bitcoin hype died down in the media as of 2014? on: February 05, 2014, 01:27:42 PM
Where are you?.. in the UK, it seems there's more than ever. Less hype as such and more substance relative to apparent serious consideration all over.
That said, media matters less that people on the street, though I'm rather encouraged by the numbers of random people that do know already about what Bitcoin is.. their reaction isn't even as if it's something they've heard of but rather it's something they consider they understand and want in on. I don't know if that is fuelled by the economic stress we're under but it's encouraging. Once it's easier to buy locally and easier to spend on what we want, I expect we'll see real depth emerge.
329  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin car wrap - London 2014 on: February 05, 2014, 11:54:09 AM
Perhaps suggest how much that will cost..
330  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Prepping for the worst: If an exchange fails is it better to hold BTC or fiat? on: February 05, 2014, 09:03:36 AM
Don't hold large amounts in exchanges. Buy BTC and hold it for spending.

If you are stuck already then Bitcoin is the better option, as it's more likely to get refunded in a timely manner. Fiat return would be naturally slow and might also give you a headache with bank v capital gains etc.

I don't see a difference from a legal standpoint, you'd have lost currency|commodity|something of value which would be an object the court considers as lost not the value of it, unless they then assessed for damages.
331  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When will some Alt\crap coin just die? on: February 04, 2014, 10:42:18 PM
Two thoughts. One is that the next influx of noobs will look at the price and be less cavalier in their investing in alt-coins. Also, perhaps the freedom to choose random other coins for no good reason, is a strength. Bitcoin is a ledger of transactions and if some industry or some random group of people wanted another coin, then they can have that.

I suspect it's unlikely that simple copycoins will ever be equals but those offering a different perspective on energy useage for example, or on ethics might do well. So, PPC for energy perhaps; Friecoin or another similar incarnation for Islamic banking; etc. NMC and DVC could take off in a big way, if the find support. LTC I think will fade relative to BTC but still be larger than today, as it'll feed off noobs that haven't seen hype and don't understand pump and dump coins loose them money.

Mt. Gox perhaps? It wouldn't hurt to check all of your old accounts. Hopefully, it is not some defunct exchange.

but you repeat yourself.
334  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2014-02-04 BBC News - Self-updating Bitcoin price tag shown off in east London on: February 04, 2014, 06:16:57 PM
~5:45 GMT they had @AmirTaaki on BBC News 24. Provided an excellent teaser of what Bitcoin offers us.

There's certainly a lot more media coverage recently in the UK and I wonder that might be a good sign of a positive approach from Government.. hope so.

Learn a lesson and use the note field to describe the addresses you send to.

Post the address here or search for it in google; it's worth a shot. If it's someone public address, you could appeal to them.
If it's in your address book, surely that's not entirely random. Perhaps it's a donation address for the likes of EFF or Wikileaks etc?
336  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Peter Schiff goes at it again... on: February 04, 2014, 04:09:19 PM
Bitcoin is the electronic gold, that beats physical gold which comes with the risk that it's plated rust; and of course everything beats paper gold because that's not worth the paper.
337  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What kind of information about Bitcoin would be most helpful to you all? on: February 04, 2014, 02:26:08 PM
A clear, simple, wiki-like updatable, by-country listing of [regulation; online exchanges; irl options to buy; merchants], to help make those Bitcoin services visible.
Somewhere that merchants will want to register their detail because it's the go-to platform - perhaps an automated search for ~"Bitcoin offered here" plus manual contributions.

and a news feed, that's reliable quality.

Keep it simple, keep it focused on Bitcoin only for now.

Perhaps also have a ABC FAQ walk through and example videos etc of real life use of Bitcoin.

Lists of which mobile devices work well with the apps and which do not (Andriod 2.2.2 not so much for example but 2.3 ok)

Perhaps also provide a clear description of the wallet options and the advantages and disadvantages of each.. and perhaps detail that wallets are private keys and keeping those safe is critical.. suggest how to move the wallet.dat; encrypt it, to help avoid issues with weak OS' like Windows.
338  Economy / Speculation / Re: where is bitcoin going on: February 03, 2014, 08:53:14 PM
Big changes in context will naturally affect the price. If ZipZap starts offering access to UK market, that could be very encouraging; if New York regulators rules in a couple of months, then that will have the biggest positive effect - expecting they are savvy enough to understand the opportunity and not stifle it. If the Russians do go after BTC-e and that isn't just trolling trolls, then that might have a negative effect as they have become larger than perhaps is warranted, given the lack of KYC there. I'd guess then in a month +/- $100 and +/- $300 in two months. What we need is some clear sense from regulators to let Bitcoin exchanges setup professional operations and that allow merchants to get into Bitcoin without worrying about the legal complexities and uncertainties. If there are more merchants getting in than there are new ways to buy Bitcoin, then it's to be expected those merchants to start will sell out what they receive into fiat, so that might drop the price; visa vera would raise the price.
339  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Legal problems for Btc-e ? on: February 03, 2014, 08:02:22 PM
Doesn't look good for btc-e but then should anyone be surprised?

All exchanges that want to be taken seriously and not be exploited by criminals, will have to offer KYC (Know Your Customer) at the bare minimum.

The only surprise here is that btc-e is in Bulgaria but then if they are offering services to Russian nationals, they are obviously going to be liable for aiding an abetting anyone taking advantage of the lack of security. Ignorance is no defence and crime does exist; authorities and wider society, will require that services are responsible and not enabling crime.

If Bitcoin is to go mainstream, then we have to welcome that authorities are taking steps to ensure exchanges operate in a professional manner.
340  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BuyBitcoin.sg introduces bitcoin purchase at 28,000 agents throughout the UK on: February 03, 2014, 06:15:43 PM
hmm. I don't understand why this isn't obviously announced from ZipZap side and why their website http://www.zipzapinc.com/ suggests CashCoin coming soon http://cashcoin.zipzapinc.com/ and no mention of BuyBitcoin.sg  Nothing obvious from their mailing list about this either.

Is this for real?
