321  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Decentralization is now being bastardized on: May 13, 2018, 03:18:13 PM
many people claim they want decentralization but as soon as they realise it's more expensive, more slow, more aggravating and more demanding they usually flip and start trying to chip away at the idea while claiming they still love it.

look at all the endless attempts to centralize bitcoin, some of which is succeeding such as mining.

what we need is an event that proves the necessity of maintaining it. i dunno what that event would consist of but it would need to be a scary one.
322  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Where to buy 50,000+ bitcoins? on: May 12, 2018, 11:09:14 PM
your prime option for amounts like that is OTC places like circle and genesis trading, but it looks like OTC is booming so you might be competing with alot of other buyers. the main alternative is to park yourself on several exchanges and drip buys over a few weeks or look at the daily auctions on gemini.com.
323  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Blue Firmware Update coming on: May 12, 2018, 10:53:38 PM
interesting to see this. for a while it looked like it was completely abandoned. and since they ain't making any more i guess that's only been postponed. i saw quite a few reports of people with dead ledger blues. i was tempted by the idea. i dodged a bullet there.

threads here.

it seems kind of hard to figure what's working and what isn't. i signed up for monaco and all i got was a place on a waiting list.

what country are you in? that's gonna have a bearing on what you can access.
325  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who makes more in the end? A good trader or a holder? Thoughts? on: May 12, 2018, 08:46:08 PM
holder all day long simply because it's much easier to be good at sitting and doing nothing. even good traders can easily lose everything with a handful of moves after years of doing well and there really aren't many good traders. everyone's good until they're not any more.

you have to choose the right coin of course and get in at the right time to hold successfully.
326  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Australian Government's cash ban on: May 12, 2018, 06:26:08 PM
No they can't. Of course there is no bullet proof way of mixing coins but their claims at tracking are exaggerated.
But there are mixers like chipmixer that use pre funded addresses, which makes it a lot harder to trace, add an alts<>BTC transaction and nobody will be able to link you to those coins.
And when LN is coming, what are they going to track?

they could simply ban anything that doesn't have a straightforward paper or blockchain trail. i've no idea how they'd do that and their version would probably be terrible but they're gonna try.

what we need is a closed crypto loop. by that point i'd be really interested to see what they'll try to do as little bubbles of crypto float away from them forever.
327  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is King and Ethereum is Queen , Do you agree ? on: May 12, 2018, 11:35:35 AM
i don't believe bitcoin can ever be dislodged and usurped. its market share can certainly be pushed further down, but it'll never not be right up there.

i do believe ethereum can be replaced by something better. ethereum has a job to do. some of the time it doesn't do that job very well. someone will come up with something that does the job better, cheaper and safer.
328  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mycelium's "crowdsale": basically a donation, not an investment by any means on: May 12, 2018, 10:50:50 AM
Where is the lawsuit ?

as this is clearly states that this is a security:
Quote
You get the share of Mycelium and the right to receive money whenever Mycelium gets more expensive. Let's suppose that this time, with this crowdsale, it will be valued at 100 million USD. Imagine that when we sell another portion one year later it will be valued at 1 billion USD. So you will get 900 million USD multiplied by your portion (if you are the owner of 5% you will get 5% of 900 million = 45 million). Your initial investment stays with you: you keep owning this right and it is non-dilutable. The next 20% we sell will be dilutable.

i can't bring myself to sympathise with anyone who thought this was a promising proposal. that reads like something put together by a school kid. this was always a dead end milking the good will they generated.

whoever ran it should be pursued to the ends of the earth but the people who gave them money need to slap themselves too.

props to the OP. he nailed it completely.
329  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is crypto bubble bursting finally? on: May 11, 2018, 10:39:06 PM
if there isn't a real burst, and there certainly hasn't been yet, then we're setting ourselves up for a really catastrophic one further down the line.

i just don't see how most of the alts out there can possibly justify a fraction of their current valuations. after all this time and hype none of them have any real value and it's patently obvious too. no one's being lied to here, they're simply refusing to think about what some of this junk should be valued at.

at least with the dotcom bubble real companies were involved with measurable metrics, even though most of them were terrible. here there's nothing backing up anything.
330  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 'we now have proof Electrum Pro is malware' on: May 11, 2018, 07:42:44 PM
25 BTC is really a lot.

according to that linked reddit thread the (real) electrum guys said that the electrum.com domain owner was asking the price of a house in 2012. 25 btc wouldn't buy much of a house in many places these days. i'd be very interested to know how this guy got his hands on the domain especially since it should be worth more than it was in 2012, not less.
331  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There will be a global cryptocurrency, but not bitcoin says EX Goldman Sachs on: May 11, 2018, 07:25:47 PM
i think he has some valid points such as needing to address volatility, burning electricity, simplicity and ease of use.

but these are all things that bitcoin itself is likely, and incentivized, to solve for itself given enough time. by the time goldman coin is out bitcoin will have a decade or two of history, much wider adoption, most flaws dealt with and will have worked almost perfectly 24/7 since inception. that's quite some catching up to do.
332  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Gold (BTG) on: May 11, 2018, 07:17:24 PM
The ceiling should be $130 for this BTG if you ask me. Why? Because it's a bitcoin clone and these forks are not that valuable. They can only go up as much as their speculators pump them. This is valid for BTG too.

for better or worse many of the forks have potential for huge, huge pumps sometime in the future.

we've seen absolute shit like bitcoin plus and bitcoin dark go crazy on poloniex and i'm sure some of the later forks are better propositions, not that that really matters.

don't underestimate how stupid buyers are when whales initiate a pump. these forks are ideal for them as people virtually give them away and a lot of the supply will never be claimed.

i'd more confident in a bitcoin fork pump that most of the stuff out there. it's simply a matter of waiting. bitcoin gold is a prime candidate.
333  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: mycelium bcash module on: May 11, 2018, 06:13:00 PM
They said that this new "module" thing was necessary for BCH/Segwit/LN and that BCH support was the most requested feature, so they prioritized that.

Still, I don't recommend Mycelium for anyone. Don't forget that they made a ICO with a proposal of building a new wallet a few years ago and they literally did nothing with the money they collected.

i didn't know that. maybe that is a glimmer of hope for more bitcoin stuff then.

despite what goes in the background it's still a wallet i like a lot and would hope that they carry on making it better. i've never had one issue with it. i've had plenty with copay not working on me.

the ICO thing does leave a very bad taste but anyone putting money into a proposal that vague and unappetizing should have thought twice.
334  Bitcoin / Mycelium / mycelium bcash module on: May 11, 2018, 05:52:38 PM
has anyone used this yet? it arrived in today's update.

the only use i'd have for it is spending bcash with bitpay so hopefully they're fully integrated with their payment protocol.

i find it pretty weird they can be bothered to create something like this but still no segwit. i have no idea what goes on in their heads.
335  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Staying away from Bitcoin for 5 years on: May 11, 2018, 03:19:04 PM
See y'all. You won't be back other than to express your bitterness. Just another piece of roadkill on the highway. have you not learnt a lesson or two along the way?

Looks like they've exit scammed and blamed the real electrum for it too. Classy guy.
337  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 'we now have proof Electrum Pro is malware' on: May 10, 2018, 11:25:31 AM

It is interesting that domain is created back in the year 1996, since then there was no BTC I wonder what was purpose of that name domain?I check Whois service and this domain is registered on GoDaddy, one more way to take down this site is report to their abuse service.

Electrum has been a thing since alloys have existed, nothing to do with btc.

I guess it was bought up during a domain splurge. Those early adopters must be making millions from leasing their domains.
338  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SEM] Semux - Official Thread - Airdrop to ETH holders now 🚀 🚀 🚀 on: May 09, 2018, 04:48:29 PM
Did you even read the github post? It looks like you didn't. Also, why do you think this is my opinion? I was clearly referring to someone elses statements.  Wink

nope.

https://github.com/semuxproject/semux/issues/621 this one?

stuff like this is the exchange's job. there are hundreds of coins without these features being bought and sold just fine. momentum should be preserved and increased. this 'issue' is getting on for six months old.

339  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SEM] Semux - Official Thread - Airdrop to ETH holders now 🚀 🚀 🚀 on: May 09, 2018, 08:54:53 AM
considering non existent junk can wind up on any exchange, what's the hold up with this? it doesn't make much sense to be a fully established project with zero exchange presence.

Well said. It would make a lot sense to be listed on exchanges soon. I'm pretty sure that Semux devs are aware of this as they convinced me with their previous actions that they are clever people.

According to their explanation it's not about being a fully established project but about the security of user funds and the network. Imagine the whining and screaming if some hackers attacked Semux and stole coins.

this makes no sense. an exchange wallet is just another wallet. it's no threat to network security. either the network works or it don't. if you're worried about the security of an exchange's wallet, no one's forcing you to use it.
