Cgminer is already on your miner and works on either pool.
322  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Why do i need to download cgminer with slushpool? on: June 25, 2016, 05:57:28 AM
im using the S7 with a lepa 1600w

You just need to point your miner to a pool. You don't have to have a backup pool, but I'd definitely recommend it, in the event your main pool goes down. Use kano.is as your pool. It pays better. Instructions are on their homepage.

Anyone having difficulty flashing the updated firmware for batch 1? Mine say success then reboot and won't hash "can't find socket" I'm forced to reset them and they boot up and run under the original firmware.

Actually let me rephrase my answer, with a question. What hardware are you using?
325  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: June 24, 2016, 07:52:34 PM
Mineral oil and 3M's Novac fluids are totally different things. The higher viscosity and much poorer thermal transfer properties of mineral oils means that great care has to be taken to ensure enough heat is pulled fast enough from the chips. With 3M's thermal xfr fluids, they are thinner than water so flow very well (rather like butane in a lighter) and more to the point, when in the phase-change range (boiling) heat xfr ability goes through the roof because the fluid in contact with the heat source wants very much to stay at the phase-change temp.

That said, oil is still a tempting idea.

I am thinking about trying mineral oil with a s7. Using a radiator for cooling and a high flow pump.

While we are on the subject of cooling. Anyone tried immersion cooling? Bitfury is getting phenomenal increases. Mineral oil seems inexpensive. 3M make some great but expensive products. IBM even does it now. Has anyone tried it?

my secondary account.  I am philipma1957

gear came .  fees for 2 units = 89 usd

could be worse.  I think I won't ask many questions for the time being.
That is on par with what I paid today to clear my single B3 miner. I asked the UPS agent for a breakdoen and it was a total of $46.86  mostly Customs duty and something like $3-4 for the UPS brokerage fee to process the Customs duty and import clearance.

Either the import thresholds have changed or the miner is mis-marked for shipping code.

I'd have to look up the exact code but is supposed to be for:
Electronic equipment, computer, no terminal or display
or something like that.

It also took an odd hop in Japan -- usual route is Shenzhen > Osaka > Anchorage > etc.
This time it arrived in Narita first but then left from Osaka. Er? A bit of a trek there.

FYI, I wrote to Bitmain about this and they claim that they haven't changed the shipping codes. The implication is that it's the dollar figure triggering the difference, or UPS has gotten gready.

The fact that every S9 was in excess of $2k while every S7 was under ($1.8k I think) leads me to think that we're in that gray area that Phil indicated where anything north of $2k might be interpreted as commercial and hence subject to duty.

I'm going to take this up with UPS, but I doubt it will change anything.

Bitmain needs to understand that the $2k threshold has an impact on the US market. They should return to pricing that's more sane.

They've been especially greedy this time. They probably would have made much more money if they had priced the S9 lower, assuming that they could fill the unit demand.

Has anyone tried DHL? I know UPS and FedEX are charging.

That's crazy. My understanding is the state determines the tax.

@philipma1957 did you get your S9's yet?
330  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: (hacked) S7LN Group Buy on: June 21, 2016, 10:23:07 PM
So what, we should start the "buy Sidehack an S9 he can destroy without remorse" fund?

If necessary, I'd chip in.
331  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: (hacked) S7LN Group Buy on: June 21, 2016, 10:01:26 PM
Yep, another good reason to not use an online wallet. For the record I do have a Coinbase wallet, and the 1F address I've taken payments to for general business stuff for the last couple years is a Coinbase address - but all the fun stuff, the 1BURGER and the museum address and the coldS7, have been actual local wallets. Just like a manual transmission, it gives you a lot more control at the cost of a bit more work.

Also, I just got ship notification for the second round, which means both batches of miners are in transit. I'll probably have them all tested and out the middle of next week.

As of right now I've had two other people ask about 'em, so there's probably going to be a third round.

good.

now we need to do this with the s-9  if possible.  maybe after the ½ ing

we can have a fund raiser to get an s-9 for you to hack at.

I'm all over this one. I'd love to contribute
332  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: June 21, 2016, 09:43:40 PM
Is the S9 as loud as the S7?

The fan noise on the S7 is unbearable compared to S3's. sigh.

From what I have read in some threads ( I didn't have one myself) you can compare the noise from the S9 with an S7.
Maybe one of the owners can answer better?

I can't tell a difference between the two. They seem the same to me.
333  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: June 21, 2016, 09:32:07 PM
I just checked my two s-9's coming on weds well they are now coming on thurs and both have a line I have never seen.
I bolded the line below.

Shenzhen, China   06/22/2016   1:00 A.M.   Export Scan
Shenzhen, China   06/21/2016   10:15 P.M.
Your package is in transit. We're updating plans to schedule your delivery. / The package will be forwarded to a UPS facility in the destination city.

Lakewood, NJ, United States   06/21/2016   7:08 A.M.   The receiver must pay the duties or taxes due on the package.

.....

I wonder if maybe this happened because you have two S9's as a single shipment, and the total value exceeded some threshold. In the past haven't you had "single miner shipments"? Perhaps in the future it might be worth considering staggered orders which become staggered shipments?

I had the exact same thing happen. I had to pay $63.00 for my 5 miners.

Good job Sierra8561.  So you are mining without a worker extension?  Does the pool assign one ... or?

I assign them through gryptoglance. Hit it with one of my s9's its only been plugged in for 4 hours. It's about time to thought it would never happen.

I've got my S9's up and going. happy they are all running perfect, no complaints. Granted they've only been running about 10 minutes lol.
