Since a few weeks, the correct fee is now calculated automatically. So don't worry about your tx ending up in limbo.

Can you still have an option to change it though?  And maybe just a pop-up warning about changing it?

I very much want to be able to control the fee myself.
322  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Bitcoin Wallet for Android on: July 23, 2013, 07:11:02 AM
I was just about to use it (the latest version), but on the send page, there was nowhere to input a fee amount.  It was a small transaction and I didn't want it in limbo so I used another app.  Where the heck do I type in the fee amount??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRISM_(surveillance_program)

So much irony here posting this on the internet for others to see. I am disgusted. This year is 2013, next year will be 1984.

Ya, I am totally disgusted by the NSA surveillance program. The scary thing is that the United States NSA PRIZM spying program goes way further than American soil.  By spying on Yahoo mail, Hotmail and Google searches and Dropbox they are essentially spying on the world, you know how many people from other countries use these online services.

Here is a WIRED magazine article that will scare anyone who reads it.

http://www.moneyaccumulator.com/1151/the-nsa-is-building-the-country%E2%80%99s-biggest-spy-center-spying-on-the-world/

I have already taken many steps detailed in this other article, I have changed from Dropbox  to Mega.co.nz.
I don't use Google search anymore... I use Startpage.com, it's google without the spying.  I use Torbrowser for all my surfing, now the only thing I have to do is get off damn YAHOO mail...I am looking for alternative right now.

Other article: http://www.moneyaccumulator.com/1062/avoid-u-s-gov-snooping-nsa-prizm-move-away-from-cloud-services-that-allow-nsa-backdoor/

Have a read.

You can do a lot of other stuff that makes your life a little easier but also protects you.  For example, you can keep using dropbox, but just use Boxcryptor Classic or a TrueCrypt container for the bulk of your files.  Then music and other stuff that you don't care if it gets leaks, you can still have that in the clear, so all your apps can still take advantage of dropbox's interconnectedness to everything.  You can use a non-logging VPN instead of Tor-- yeah you have to trust the VPN, but at least you prevent ISP spying and you get speeds much better than Tor allows for.  And you can sign up for a Tormail or Lavabit e-mail, which again-- you have to trust them, but it's probably easier than only communicating with friends who use PGP.

Remember, security and convenience are always a trade-off, so my personal advice is to only protect yourself against egregious violations and let them have the small stuff.  It's just too much of a pain to not have Google on your phone or to only use encrypted communication or to constantly change services or use fake info all the time.  I mean, if you want to, more power to you, but understand the trade-off.  I like the little conveniences that are afforded by sacrificing some privacy, but I understand what I'm giving up.  I expect all my communications to be monitored, and I am able to protect myself if I want, but most of the time it's not worth the hassle.

But I guess, if you want to fight the good fight more than I do, that's perfectly fine and I bid you godspeed.
327  Other / Meta / Changes to trust settings for people I dislike? on: July 18, 2013, 02:05:47 AM
I would like to add a feature to the trust settings a feature to have personal local ratings of people.  There are users whom I get a bad vibe from just reading what they write and understanding how they think, and I would like to ensure that I personally don't do business with them in the future-- but they have done nothing wrong, and I don't want to tarnish somebody's reputation over the fact that I don't like them.  Still, I would like to have a reminder for myself so I don't accidentally do business with them say 4 months from now.

Is there a way to negatively rate somebody but have that show up only for me?  Or just as we have a list where we can add trustworthy people, can there be a list of users we distrust?
328  Economy / Securities / Re: S.DICE - SatoshiDICE 100% Dividend-Paying Asset on MPEx on: July 18, 2013, 02:01:15 AM
Well, thank you Erik for showing once and for all you're just a profit-chaser - you don't care about bitcoin, well, only enough to get your money out of it.

As I understand it - and please, feel free to add your crocodile tears here - you're going to DUMP a shitload of BTC on the market in general, to "shareholders" that will no doubt seek to "cash out" in droves. In a short time period, no less.

"I know some of you will be upset"

Yes, I am upset - first for your wholesale abuse of the blockchain, and now, for not only continuing your abomination but now trampling all over the BTC market in your urge to scratch that profit itch.

Will someone please hire Erik so he stops this pattern of wholesale dickery? What the hell is the next business enterprise, monetizing desperate immigrants? I can only sit and wonder, since I don't have the obvious lack of social acuity you display in your business schemes.

Just 'effing unbelievable....looks like we got "DICED" again.

Does it hurt being this stupid?
329  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: How to Import Private Keys into Smartphone Digital Wallet (Bitcoin Wallet app)? on: July 16, 2013, 12:27:43 AM
You can also encrypt it via the method you used to decrypt the example one.  That's what I did, that way I didn't care if the file was read by a malicious app.  Make the text file, encrypt with openssl, stick in folder, easy.  The annoying part was having to reset the blockchain, and also going on blockchain.info to find the first use of the address so I could make sure I had a time before that date to put in the file.

Seriously, I love this idea and this community.
331  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much coin anonimity you want? on: July 16, 2013, 12:13:45 AM
thugcoin obv.  money is money, and a core fundamental feature of money is fungability and transferability.  the problem with tracing it is who controls the trace? who decides what is and is not a crime?  in the end money needs to be free, that's just all there is to it.
332  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: encryption controled property rights on: July 16, 2013, 12:12:11 AM
Its a cool idea but I don't know if this would actually be an improvement.  What happens if you lose your private key?  What happens if someone hacks your private key?

M of N keys. You can contract with multiple parties to be part of N if you like.

Exactly, let's say you have 7 friends and you trust them enough to think that say 4 or more of them would not screw you over and one of them would tell you.  So you create 12 shares, give yourself 5 shares, give your seven friends 1 share each, and make it a 5-of-12 required to unlock.  Then you can always unlock it since you have 5.  And even if something happens to one or two of your friends and you also lose your 5, you can still contact the remaining friends.

Because linear key space expansion exponentially increases brute force difficulty.  /Thread

335  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Solution to blockchain spam [CLICK HERE!] on: July 11, 2013, 02:33:41 PM
completely agree OP.  the protocol is what it is.  if you don't like it, you can not relay tx's or you can not accept certain blocks, or you can go use another altcoin.
336  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm proud of the foundation on: July 11, 2013, 02:32:21 PM
This is naive. Of course they would not do the obvious. But for a group of knowledgable persons it is easy to implement some "errors" that go unnoticed long enough to inflict serious damage.

Only a tiny fraction of all bitcoin users is able to understand the source code. And of this tiny fraction only few do actually verify it.

Sorry, but this is retarded.  First of all, what exactly is it you think they can do that will go unnoticed?  Cause if it's not changing how addresses are created (in order to make them easier to brute force), and if it's not minting extra money.... what the fuck exactly do you think they could do?

Now, there ARE some things I can think of (which I'm not mentioning because I want to see if YOU can), but let's say they DO secretly add them.  It doesn't matter if most of the community doesn't notice, because all it takes is ONE PERSON noticing and posting about it.  Giant errors like that get found fast not because everybody can read code, but because all it takes is ONE PERSON reading it.  Because that one person then goes and TELLS PEOPLE.  So your big worry can completely be mitigated by simply waiting a month or two after new releases before you update.  BAM, problem solved.
337  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm proud of the foundation on: July 11, 2013, 02:27:05 PM
I also think the Foundation is ill-conceived and I have not donated to it, but all this irrational hatred of it is retarded.  No, it doesn't control the code.  The fucking miners control the code.  The code is OPEN SOURCE.  If the miners don't like an update, they can NOT UPDATE and continue processing transactions the old way.

The Foundation is doing two awesome things:  paying Gavin, to work on OPEN SOURCE CODE THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO, and trying to promote bitcoin in a positive light and integrate it into the current world.  Like I said, I disagree with it and feel it's both not necessary and too centralizing of a force.... but this outright distrust and claims of "they wish they were the fed!" and such is fucking stupid.  You can see everything they do.  The code is fucking open source.  They press releases and interactions with media and public are always transparent.  They're not some evil entity, and you're fucking retarded if you think they are.

Do you honestly not think Gavin, Charlie, Garzik, MagicalTux, Mantonis, etc. don't want what's best for bitcoin!?  Come on now, these are people who've been in it for years if not since the beginning, and who have completely solid reputations.

Fucking hell, I'm gonna go donate to the foundation just because the retarded irrational hatred of it annoys me so much.

Also a +1 for Fassade, who bought a phone from me in the marketplace.  He sent first, no questions asked, completely trusting me, and was super understanding when I was unable to get him better tracking information on an international shipment.

Just adding a +1 for CanaryInTheMine.  Bought a single block erupter as part of a group buy from this thread, and everything went as smooth as possible.  Good communication, even with so many people needing his attention, and the product was shipped right away and arrived in perfect condition.
