"This is the end result of all the bright lights and the comp trips, of all the champagne and free hotel suites and all the broads and all the booze. It’s all been arranged just for us to get your money. That’s the truth about Las Vegas. We’re the only winners. The players don’t stand a chance." — Martin Scorsese's Casino (1995)

FL/NH combo for the win (~6 mo in ea with a yearly winter trip further south to the Caribbean). I have been to NH during summer-it is extremely nice (especially for a person who likes more moderate climate). The air alone is worth it, plus other niceties, like plenty of clean fresh water.
Such combos are interesting option, for sure. People often dream of one perfect place, but maybe having two places is better...

Updating the old graph... almost 1 year anniversary of the big crash... Gold is heading back to 'normal' levels of $1600, while BTC is Off. The. Charts.

Oh my! Where in the world they find these shitty TAs? What is that they'll find in a BTC graph next? A dick pointing down as a bearish sign? BTC going up as a bearish sign.

So, that last part, spend a little energy to throw something to the sun, then let it be.. It's going to spiral and never really get there and just be some space debris / comet?
It's not going to spiral. Spending a little bit of energy means the new orbit will be a little bit lower, that's all.

Fresh 'scientific' FUD: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S2214629619302701Results indicate that in 2018, each $1 of Bitcoin value created was responsible for $0.49 in health and climate damages in the US and $0.37 in China.
Further, with each cryptocurrency, the rising electricity requirements to produce a single coin can lead to an almost inevitable cliff of negative net social benefits, absent perpetual price increases. For example, in December 2018, our results illustrate a case (for Bitcoin) where the health and climate change “cryptodamages” roughly match each $1 of coin value created.

all fair. but i suspect that it this kind of reasoning that keeps us from achieving more.
Reality-based reasoning keeps us from achieving more? Come on. i say "let us invest more" and you reply that investing more is more expensive.
I'm fine with investing more, like 2x or 3x. But some of the pie-in-the-sky ideas I hear here require spending 100x or 1000x more. Is it possible? Even worse, some daydreamers don't even think about the costs. Or even laws of physics. They think the 'magic of technology' plus 'magic of positive thinking" can solve absolutely everything. And soon.

law of physics did not prevent us from visiting moon, sending probes beyond the solar system, exploring other planets and moons of our solar system. it is purely the lack of funding and lack of awareness that keeps us from building a lunar station, sending astronauts to mars, start building a generational space ship, start building lots of ISS alike stations in orbit.
Lack of funding? Because that stuff is super extremely expensive. Why it's so expensive? Laws of physics. what exactly are you trying to tell me here? mankind too poor for space? I'm trying to say that our expectations of future progress needs to be rooted in reality, instead of over-optimistic wishful thinking. Reality is cruel and indifferent to our wishful thinking and daydreaming. We can achieve pretty interesting things in space, as long as we stay within certain budgets. But if we cross those limits, things get prohibitively expensive.

in general i feel a bit betrayed regarding human endeavors in space. whatever happened to the future?
Just because we want something, doesn't mean we'll get it. Law of phisics do not care about our fellings. Unverse is indifferent to humans, no need to feel betrayed.

Energy is pretty cheap in space. You also don't need a whole lot of power as even quite low thrusts will eventually get you where you want to go.
It's not as simple as going from point A to point B. 'Points of interest' in space (like asteroids) are not stationery, but flying as incredible speed. For example, when NASA sent a spacecraft to Pluto, it took 9 years to get there, but they only had 1 day to actually study Pluto. Only 1 day because the spacecraft couldn't just 'stop' once it arrived. Relative speed during Pluto flyby was 13.78 km/s (49,600 km/h; 30,800 mph) so it would requite extraordinary amount of energy to 'stop'.

As for the lake, it's just the means to even more peace of mind and a place to enjoy my time in a peaceful healthy environment. And you can put seastead in the middle of the lake!

I'm selling almost every day (DCA) to pay for our lake.
We started with regular cars, then lambos, now ranches and lakes...soon whole building blocks and/or villages, then islands, maybe asteroids, planets, stars, etc Calling dibs on Liechtenstein. The big issues are how soon will it happen? (10-40 years my guess)
100-200 years my guess. 50 years since we left the Moon, and we still can't dig into Mars (equipment breaks), and we still can't bring a spoonful on Mars dirt back to Earth (too expensive).

yes, I always try to play chess... especially when I am being chased by the bear...

When, then, do you think an 80% correction will occur?
After the top! If it occurs, at all. No guarantee.
|
|
|
$58000 being the top is just out of the question. It's impossible. We're going higher to at least 6 digits guys! Indeed! It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock 'n' roll.

I liked the almost 60k feeling, I felt rich, now not so much.
Edit: I even started buying soft 4 ply toilet paper, back to the cheap generic recycled stuff again.
I switched to faster internet plan in Dec 2017 because I felt rich, haha.
