AWESOME, thanks for posting this!

Some things to consider....

No entry for Silk Road, Tor, .  I guess you are taking the High Road on that?

51% attack is distinct from double-spend.

There are many examples of double-spend type attacks (spawning multiple instances of virtual machines from the same wallet and sending the same coins from each creating a race condition to be resolved in the proof of work, would be another type).

51% is more a takeover of the mining authority, which can (among other things) enable double-spending, but it is much more than that.

You're right Tsukene. Thanks for the tip Smiley

And regarding to the previous post, I don't want to do anything illegal. I just want some privacy.

Good.  Nothing to hide, but lots to protect.
3263  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Agora Commodities - A Full Service Bitcoin to Precious Metal Dealer. on: September 06, 2013, 09:14:53 PM
Remember how Agora Commodities was the first bullion dealer to declare customer privacy to be their highest priority by only using encrypted email to correspond with clients?

Well we are continuing our commitment to your privacy being the most precious commodity you can own by offering Unsene memberships to our customers. Unsene has the potential to protect the way that people communicate by using the highest encryption possible for web messaging, video chat, and file sharing. In short it will be the free sovereign individual's alternative to Skype.

Agora Commodities has no stake in Unsene. We merely see it as a great resource and are proud to offer it to our customers. The freedom of all people to communicate throughout the world without fear of retribution for their thoughts and ideas is an important step to securing freedom for humanity. This hope is what drives us to provide the lowest priced precious metals with some of the best customer service in the bullion industry.

Please visit our site for terms and conditions for more details.

If customer privacy were your highest priority, why did you decide to include the java widgets for all the social media sites on your home page?
Did your technologist not inform you that everyone that browses to your home page is then tracked by these groups which all report to the US NSA et al?

Encrypted email is a great idea though, thank you for that.

If you really want your customers and friends to work with social media for you, you can just use a simple link rather than the java widgets.  That way those who want to can hop over, but we are all not just automatically and non-consensually reported as browsing your site just by your use of them.

The innocent may not be up to the latest with tor and java script disabling.    Smiley

By the way, I love what you are doing.

3265  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Coinbase cancel "high risk" buy - now seeking agent in Los Angeles on: September 06, 2013, 08:42:32 PM
Fair enough.  Hope your issues are resolved swiftly, Coinbase is a pretty big player now in this arena.  I do know the longer you sit in their database and the more you message them, the more your account status goes up...or at least that's been my experience...had one issue with them that had me pissed for a week, but then it was resolved admirably and I've had no issues since, with my account fully vested and able to issue instant buys.  Sells still take a week or so to get paid out, but that seems to be the name of the game unless you live near a BTC ATM or a local seller.

I'm less impressed so far.  Customer service is what makes a business in the financial services arena.

Bitcoin Brokers seem to be always having coins available and provide great service with same-day coins whenever I need them in a hurry.  They have become a reliable source with concierge customer service.  Coinbase could learn a LOT from those guys.
Heck if Coinbase is such a player, they should probably buy Bitcoin Brokers outright and put them in charge of customer relations for both systems, that would be a win-win.

<blushing>

Thanks for that.  Most all of the design elements were coalesced from the words and ideas of this community, so we owe a debt of gratitude to you all for your contributions in words, ideas and feedback.

We also owe kudos to the folks attending the Bitcoin Foundation's convention in San Jose where we were "asked" to make these.  (Actually it was more like "why the fuk haven't you done a Bitcoin piece yet, you slacker?")  We took it to heart and let the ideas percolate and mix, but there are a lot of you who contributed in ways that are less easy to identify than Pheonix1 who just happened to say just the right thing at just the right time as we were looking to finalize the motto.  It cinched it.

"Think outside the box"... Outside the QR code, outside the computer, outside all the boxes, that is the domain of Bitcoin and also especially the Bitcoin specie pieces we are producing, which are not made to be boxed, but pocketed and exchanged.

And in Latin, rather than English, as both Bitcoin and precious metals are international and timeless.  A lot of heart went in to these, and not just ours but many of yours as well.  There is a lot more meaning in the design than can be easily explained.  It is sort of a treasure map of our collective experience with it.

Thanks again for your contribution.

Hey guise, this is all OT

So, let's get back to observing the WALLS—m'kaay?

Show us a wall and we'll stare at it...  Looks like an old slow river valley, not so much a canyon.

Are there any bibcoin beliebers other than me that don't actually think the world economy is about to collapse, fiat is just a ponzi scheme and that Bernanke is about to reveal that he's just a  space lizard being remote controlled by a geostationary Illuminati satellite?

*raises hand*

The world economy is not likely to collapse.  There are a lot of problems, but there are a lot of people working on them as well.  Bitcoin is a great solution to quite a number of things.  Its a great way to make money, have fun, and do good.

They are not working to solve the underlying problems of our monetary system at all, they don't even recognize how unsustainable our consumption driven economy that depends on infinite growth really is. And how the absolute power of banks to create money out of nothing and lend it out at interest turns us all into a bunch of debt slaves. Really, people need to be educated about how we're being royally screwed here. Nobody (in a position of power) is working to solve these problems at all, they just want to make you think that way while they keep rigging the system.

To disambiguate...By a lot of people working on it, (with respect to the monetary systemic problems) I meant you, me, and the rest of us here... not so much "they", the following sentence was the punch line for that.
3269  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Coinbase cancel "high risk" buy - now seeking agent in Los Angeles on: September 06, 2013, 05:48:46 PM
My friend got whitelisted because of a bad transaction which gave him immediate buy and sell privileges that made me quite jealous while I was waiting for my account to mature because my other transactions went through successfully.  Whitelisting is their version of Sorry we F-ed up, here buy and sell faster and easier from here on, yada, yada, etc.

Send another support message...they are in San Fran and have offices...which also means they can be sued if shit goes south...you will be fine.

Is "faster" less than 1 week for coins to be delivered?  So far its been:

Buy coins... wait a week, transaction not processed.
Submit support request,
Get no feedback from support
Post to forum and get advice to try again
Buy coins... wait a week, transaction not processed.
Submit support request
Get a promise to process the two previous transactions and be white listed (yay!)
First transaction gets promised (a couple weeks late)
Second transaction .... still waiting
Submit a third buy transaction, pending, money withdrawn from account, with a commitment to deliver coins in a week (this is the same as the first two which were then reversed, but one was re-reversed).

So far its been completely unpredictable and not something I can rely on for business purposes.  I really wish it were, even with the limits it could be very useful for keeping more of the cash on hand in bitcoin.
I would love to be able to be helpful to them to get their act together, but there isn't much interaction...

Bitpay on the other hand...  VP arranged a meet, bought me drinks, talked through all the issues, and seems to be top shelf.
Everything takes time, and I appreciate that, life is long.  But we aren't at the "I told you so" stage yet.  Still looking forward to that.

The chart does not show any hyper-inflation, just the inflation spikes we seem to have had every 30 or so years since the federal reserve started its games.  Hyper-inflation is 50% inflation per month, a very different thing.
3271  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Convert bitcoin to cash for free with Bitcoin-Brokers on: September 06, 2013, 05:23:08 PM
Nicely done, congratulations for that.
3272  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Coinbase cancel "high risk" buy - now seeking agent in Los Angeles on: September 06, 2013, 05:18:55 PM
Well they sent my btc through after I posted my support ticket id on their Twitter . So that seems to work.

They process high volumes...it may take some time...but see, they seem pretty legit.  Resolved my issues also.

Coinbase support is on the case, it may be resolved perfectly after all.

I am happy to report I told you so on this one...nice to see Coinbase standing by their core foundations.  They
have done right by me and my friends with both buying and selling.

Now if only we could get them offering Litecoins for USD.

It still isn't resolved.  I did get some good lip service though.  One of three buy transactions processed, all the sells went through.

I look forward to joining the group of happy customers, one of these days, and supposedly I am "whitelisted" but not sure of the effect of that yet.
3273  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: September 06, 2013, 03:50:05 PM
All you need to know is mortgage loans in the US fluctuate based on bond yields. So if average dumb, fat, walmart employee, American wants to buy a house, s/he is greatly limited by the rate on the 30 year loan. A single percentage point can raise monthly payments quite a bit. Home owners must lower the principle to offset the portion of monthly payments attributable to interest.

It isn't pretty. Almost all large assets that require a loan will go unsold unless the holders accept massive losses.

*edit*

Another way to think about this is that it may force many inflated asset bubbles to finally BURST! Sounds good for bitcoin. Probably is, in the long run. But not until USA decides to hyper-inflate. You are a fool if you believe this is just around the corner, in response to bubble burstings. We will see more stagnation for a while, caused by more failed QE-BY-ANOTHER-NAME. Could last years. Govs don't hyper inflate but as a last resort. We have plenty of room to suffer!

yes..  inflation can happen fast when it happens, but we aren't always going to know when.

The onset can be swift:

The macro also matters but is a bit more complex and sometimes counter-intuitive.  When the rates rise, it encourages bond buying (which other central banks do to "back" their currency with our debt), this increases the dollar forex rate, which in turn decreases the cost of imports and makes exports more difficult to sell, which hurts the balance of trade, reducing economic output, but requires the US to become more efficient in order to compete, so we build infrastructure on borrowed money all of which gets dumped into the deficit, hastening the inflation curve.

The last few (every 30 years or so) shows the USA may be overdue...

Also notice that the lower it is before the spike, the higher the spike...
3274  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: who buys 0.01 BTC ? on: September 06, 2013, 02:22:42 PM
For an example: The bots push the last price to one or the other side of the bid/ask.  If you are a seller you want the last to show the ask, if a buyer you want to sell .01 so the last is the bid.
If you have a big transaction which is off-exchange but set at the exchange price and you can sell 0.01 on exchange to set the last to the buy price you can buy your coins cheaper.  So if you are watching these, it could be a contrary indicator.
3275  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Assault weapon bans on: September 06, 2013, 01:02:02 PM
assault weapons/burst fireing arms should not given to the public. People cant handle the responsibility

Don't project.
People in general can't handle responsibility of much simpler things.

Is your position that only "government people" can handle the responsibility, but not "non-government people"?

I would agree that there are some few folks that are a danger to themselves and others and who probably ought not be around anything sharp, much less a weapon, but these are not who we are discussing when talking about a "ban".
3276  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: September 05, 2013, 04:29:04 PM

Not that it matters, but to be clear, I am a Critical Marxist.

Which means I don't play fair.

Taking into account that, among other many things, the very meaning of the world capitalism (=private ownership of means of production) was defined by Marx in "The Capital", its simply a shame that almost nobody under 50 has read that work. You really cannot understand the history of the last 200 years without having read it.

Am under 50 and read it, but would recommend Carl Menger over Karl Marx for purposes of understanding.
Though both is better.

Bitcoin has been replaced,  by Bitcoin.
At some later time it will likely be replaced by Bitcoin 1.0

That's exactly what the voicemail was. And throughout our discussion questions were raised regarding whether eBay policies could be updated to allow the use of bitcoin on eBay.

For eBay this makes a lot of sense, its just another currency.  There may be internecine issues with paypal, but there is room for both for at least a while.
3279  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-08-30 Forbes - 10 Reasons Bitcoin Is The MySpace Of Money And What Might Sa on: September 05, 2013, 12:29:00 PM
It is fairly clear that the dollar is failing as a currency, but it isn't happening rapidly.  Not yet.  When it does, as every fiat currency ever created has, it won't go down alone.  Many others would go with it.  This is the central banking process in action.
To understand the mechanism by which they are propped up and supported it is good to study the Basel accords.  These are the central bank meetings where the many central banks gather and determine the framework for interoperability.

Increasingly the central banks are becoming interdependent upon each other.  This is by design as they are all in the same confidence game together.  When any of them fail, it reduces the confidence in all the others.

Until this time, the current stakeholders are going to talk down alternatives until they have bought in as much as they want.  Then they will talk it up.  When I see articles like this, it suggests buying.
