3281  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Impact of US dollar on Bitcoin on: March 23, 2021, 08:18:04 PM
I do not think that changes in the value of US dollar alone is sufficient to have a very significant effect on that of Bitcoin.
A lot of Bitcoin trading is done using USD and also it is the too currency in the world, however changes in it are usually very small when compared with that in Bitcoin, holders would not sell their stash because of a rising Fiat currency, traders may also be hesitant and it is unlikely to have a synchronized effect.
3282  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Gold is government assest,Bitcoin is all yours." A Comparison between them. on: March 23, 2021, 04:30:00 PM
That comparison is wrong. Both are decentralized.
I agree with this, gold may not be digital but it is as decentralized as Bitcoin, as neither its supply or price is controlled by government agencies. The government can only use agencies to confiscate gold.
If a Bitcoin holder uses the network wrongly, they can also do the same to Bitcoin using centralized exchanges to eliminate the quality of decentralization.
3283  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is now a GOOD or BAD time to invest? on: March 23, 2021, 11:06:01 AM
I'm new in the Crypto World, but I am absolutely obsessed with it.
I'll advise you do not get emotionally invested in any asset class to the extent of getting obsessed with it, this affects your ability to make investment decisions.

SO, back to the actual question: is NOW a good or bad time to begin investing? Or should I wait for a heavy drop in the market, which might not come?
- I am looking for a LONG term investment.
Someone who invested at any price under $20k would not mind a + or - difference of a couple of thousands, as the price increase would sufficiently cover it, same way we can look at the price now. It's best to buy at the dip and Hodl all the way up, but if you expect the price would increase in the future, you can make the purchase.
3284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: U.K. Bitcoin trader to Pay $572 Million Penalty for perpetrating a Ponzi Scheme on: March 23, 2021, 09:46:33 AM
A lot of scams are in Bitcoin
Scams are not in Bitcoin, it is actually more secure than a whole other number of assets which are open to massive printing and forgery. The scam narrative is spread by anti Bitcoin media to discourage people from using it.

This also raises a question that whether robberies will cease to exist as bitcoin has already surpassed gold.
How has Bitcoin surpassed gold?
Also, you would need to give more information on this, I see no relationship between the rate of robberies and Bitcoin adoption
3285  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the Nigeria Central bank confusing its citizens? on: March 23, 2021, 09:32:33 AM
If the citizens are free to trade cryptocurrencies, how will it be possible without making a transaction to or with their local banks? Of course, it might be possible with the P2p transaction. But what is the need of encouraging them, when you will still close their accounts?
Accounts involved in cryptocurrency trades through peer to peer platforms cannot be restricted neither can they be closed by the central Banks as their source is unknown.
When deposits or withdrawals are made through regulated exchanges it is reflected in the banks to be affiliated with cryptocurrency, but in peer to peer transactions it is simply reflected as an exchange between two individuals, which could be from any means and hence Banks can't interfere.
3286  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which Exchange? on: March 22, 2021, 10:17:33 PM
I would assume you want to mostly trade cryptocurrencies.
What do you most look for in an exchange; liquidity, security, privacy etc?

Exchanges are compared using a number of factors, so it is quite difficult to pick a number one exchange, most trackers use the trading volume metric, but that alone is not sufficient to pick an exchange

Anyway, so I thought whats the number 2 choice?
Binance is an alternative option for centralized exchanges, and for decentralized you can opt for hodlhodl or bisq; they may be a bit lacking in liquidity when compared with CEXes.
3287  Other / Meta / Re: Unable to access my bitcointalk email on: March 22, 2021, 10:10:18 PM
If I were you maybe I would stake a bitcoin address, create a thread in reputations stating why i am changing my email address and also sign a message using the same stake bitcoin address for future reference.
Creating a thread in reputation may not be necessary; the user can post the staked address in this thread - (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.0) and include the email change in the signed message, a user would quote the message and it would serve as proof if the user ever needs to recover their account in the future.
3288  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: When I first heard of bitcoin on: March 21, 2021, 10:30:47 AM
At 2017, Bitcoin already had a good amount of history which could serve as research materials for those interested in learning about it, I guess you dismissed it without considering the pros and cons of it, as a good number of people do, up until your attention was drawn by increases in price. We're still in the early stages and anyone getting in now is still in a good position to secure a position in the currency of the future.

Trying hard to studying various coins to see as many I can acquire
I would advise you prioritize the quality of the coin rather than looking to acquire as many as possible in search of the next Bitcoin.
3289  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the most anonymous way to own bitcoin? on: March 20, 2021, 06:55:54 PM
Yeah I've thought about peer to peer I've just been kind of worried about getting defrauded or something happening.
You do not have to (physically) trade directly with someone and go through the risk of sending first and waiting for your payment, there are P2P platforms which acts as intermediary (sort of an escrow). They protect you from the risk of fraud, ensure you're using a reputable and trustworthy website.

So the exchange can see where you sent monero, and from there, when you exchange monero for bitcoin even when done off from the exchange on another platform?
The blockchain is transparent and transactions can be linked, you'll also need another exchange to convert the monero to Bitcoin, further reducing privacy.
3290  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My first post on: March 20, 2021, 05:20:02 PM
* as previously said your email is not hidden yet. So it should be hidden for your privacy. It’s also one type of learning for you.
What's peculiar is, the email display option is hidden by default, so the user probably inadvertently enabled it while clicking through their profile, I can't think of any reason why they would deliberately do so, except theyr do not yet fully value privacy and assume this forum to be like other social platforms.

To OP; privacy and pseudo anonymity are important factors of Bitcoin and the blockchain, in addition to changing the display option to hidden, you should probably remove that email address from any senstive account it is linked to.
3291  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to start as a beginner? on: March 20, 2021, 01:59:34 PM
I'm new to crypto and was just wondering where should I start learning about this? Like, whats the main thing to learn from a beginner?
About the where to start question, this forum has proven to be a very good resource for learning bout cryptocurrency (especially Bitcoin) and it is structured in such a way to allow you focus on your interests; beginners would likely frequent this section as it contains information that is relevant to them, as you acquire more knowledge you can switch to more niche boards like trading, mining etc.

Also any advice in general is greatly appreciated!
Verify, don't trust,
Only invest what you can afford to lose,
Not your keys; not your coins.
3292  Other / Meta / Re: This user wants to scam, but spammed in the process on: March 19, 2021, 10:20:23 PM
I think even such usernames should not be allowed. It shows his only intention to join forum was to spam his website or ask for money and scam someone.
Forum should have some stricter policy for choosing username.
Afaik, the only username which is restricted is any related to Satoshi (and for good reason). Any other form of restrictions would need the original user to announce that they are or aren't related to the account, which would need a bit of proof, for some reasons I think such an approach may not be sustainable;
• The forum allows privacy and freely allows members stay anonymous,
• Scams are not moderated, members would have a false sense if security such as what social media platforms do with verified profiles
3293  Other / Meta / Re: Bpip.org want to scam, and spamming on: March 19, 2021, 09:24:06 PM
May I suggest you edit the topic title, readers who do not look into it could mistake the title to mean that the website bpip is scamming people and not a forum member with that username.

As scams are generally unmoderated, leaving a negative feedback and ignoring the member would protect you and possibly others from their antics.
3294  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: New Project Called BitcoinHouse on: March 19, 2021, 04:02:13 AM
Can we have a Crypto currency club house where we can earn Crypto coins(Eg. bitcoin) when people join the room.
The quality of discussions on a forum is what makes it grow; bitcointalk does not offer any direct incentive for people to join and has attracted some of the most knowledgeable individuals in this space. If you created a cryptocurrency forum with a marketing idea that members can earn when they join or create rooms, it will attract lots of users who are uninterested in the specific purpose, but are only there to spam and earn.
3295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Whitepapers Compilation on: March 19, 2021, 03:34:28 AM
I've collected some whitepapers specially bitcoin, that newbies should have at least read.
Imo, newbies do not really have to go through whitepaoers of various cryptocurrency, especially if they are not interested in them, for one they can give a false opinion about that particular coin and push the newbies to invest as they have limited knowledge, it can also be quite confusing and complicated (like the Bitcoin whitepaper)

As @Welsh suggested, utilizing other resources depending on what suits you can be more useful in teaching a newbie. Remember to always filter the information you get and verify it if possible.
Another useful resource is bitcoinstackexchange.
3296  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why publicise your wallet address on: March 17, 2021, 09:10:48 AM
A quantum computer theoretically could brute force the private key with the public key (revealed whenever you spend with that address) though, which is one of the reasons why address reuse is frowned upon.
Isn't the address also revealed whenever one receives into it?
Address reuse prevents people looking in from outside to be able to link multiple addresses to a single identity, but I do not think it could practically help in a scenario where quantum computing becomes a reality. All transactions are publicly available on the blockchain and even if one used an new address each time, they would need to have received bitcoins into the public key already, which would have already exposed it.
3297  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Poll] Did you get Zhou Tonged? on: March 16, 2021, 09:45:08 PM
I clicked No, as majority of the poll'ers' did. I rarely trade and even if I did, I would be very conscious when taking any sort of leveraged positions that puts me at a much higher risk.
3298  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sold my first Bitcoin and am happy on: March 16, 2021, 09:17:23 PM
If bitcoins were bought three years ago, now is the time to partially sell them and fix your profit.
This is a personal decision; if the investor has reached their profit target they can sell and take out some profits. Some long term holders eo are yet to hit their desired target are still stacking up sats as they perceive the value is still relatively cheap.

you just hold on to bitcoins, you can remain a witness to the rise and fall of its price, which ultimately does not guarantee a profit.
If you only invest what you can afford to lose, changes in the market wound not pose a risk.
3299  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Only password on: March 16, 2021, 08:01:38 PM
Afaik, Without the seed phrase, private keys or wallet file, you cannot access any wallet, as these are the keys that gives you assess to a particular wallet.
To utilize the wallet you would have to first determine the type of wallet and identify the other keys necessary for recovering a wallet.
3300  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Opinion About Future of Bitcoin Scalability on: March 16, 2021, 07:38:46 PM
I believe that Lightning Network is not good and safe solution.
Do you have any reason to back up your claim? Lightening network is still growing in adoption, but it has a lot of potential to positively affect scalability.

We can use some centralized "bitcoin banks" where ordinary people will keep their bitcoins.
Banks can also print bitcoin banknotes that are backed by real BTC (legacy mode support).
Putting a decentralized currency in a centralized system is wrong use in my opinion.
