Buy some LTC or FTC as a hedge, Both are seeing a price jump right now.

https://btc-e.com

Bad idea, if bitcoin dies, litecoin definitely won't survive.

You seriously believe that Bitcoin, the prototypical prototype, won't be replaced by a superior and polished competitor such as LTC one day? Grin Probably happening now.

i really like where this is going:

iamrickrock: that alternate version is an emphatic no.

weav: you are on the right track. i don't like how you did the n though... but i love how smooth your overall design is.

And what about me? Im not doing this for the reward... Its for free.

edit: sorry, i didn't see yours at first. wow, i really like that coin too... gonna be a tough choice. i still think all of them need some refinement, but all 3 of you are doing great jobs. i may need to up the ante a little bit on the rewards. and i'm sorry but if you are named as a winner you must take the reward.

I modified it, enjoy it Wink

Fuck dude, you stole my rim Grin Looks nice with some color though, let's see if you will be the last one to steel it..

The rim its a simple silver coin rim image in google, lol.

Yeah right, let's forget about the carefully elevated zeros and ones! Wink

347  Economy / Speculation / What's the reason for the recent price dump? on: July 04, 2013, 06:23:23 AM
Bubble deflating, seen it coming etc., blah

All the above could have been said for 2 months, yet the forum reeks of self-fulfilling prophecy panic now Grin

The question is why is it dropping now?

(How) is the Winklevoss IPO filing related to this?
348  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why don't the QT Wallets support Paper Printing? on: July 04, 2013, 06:06:40 AM
Title says it all.  I was thinking about this today and I just don't get it.  I don't want to go online to some website, save it to my hard drive, log off the interwebZ, jump through hoops, clap 5 times and do 10 jumping jacks just to get a paper wallet.

I dont want to log into Coinbase and use theirs either, as they keep record of everything online, and you totally expose yourself.

You would think the QT wallets for BTC LTC etc would already have this there.  Great.  You can encrypt your wallet.dat file.  And then some turd can (already has) create a virus which FTP's your wallet.dat file to himself.  Why wouldn't these things simply have a "PRINT" button?

No external hard drives needed.   No wallet.dat files.

No remote website.

No risk.

Just print.

Its a local wallet.  "Print your wallet".   File > Print Wallet....

Now if you want to create a paper wallet with a virgin address, there are several different ways. Might be nice for the qt client to include one.

Have you guys seen this

http://www.megacoin.co.nz/

Really amazing. PXC should also try this after the main projects. It would be really nice to see something like this. I think this is the best crypto website I have ever seen.

You can get such a design for just a few $100 at http://www.designcrowd.com/ I agree that would be a good investment in the project

http://www.themeforest.net my fav. Smiley

Oh yeah, that's even cheaper Smiley

All digital currencies do is swap out groups like the Federal Reserve or Bank of Japan and replace them with whomever it is that's in charge of the manufacturing Bitcoins themselves.

Haha, oh man, this line's good.

Haha wtf Grin The entire article is sort of polemically oozing fear of the unknown, must have been fun to read the press releases about the first cars..

356  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "51% actor or botnet could manipulate the source code of the bitcoin network" on: July 03, 2013, 03:18:46 AM
In the Winklevoss IPO filing:

https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1579346/000119312513279830/d562329ds1.htm

Quote
If a malicious actor or botnet obtains control in excess of 50 percent of the processing power active on the Bitcoin Network, such actor or botnet could manipulate the source code of the Bitcoin Network or the Blockchain in a manner that adversely affects an investment in the Shares or the ability of the Trust to operate.

I get that such an attacker can double spend their own coins, but how does controlling more than 50% of the hashrate allow anybody to manipulate the source code??

Yes, people COULD manipulate the source code if they control >50%.

Just imagine a government with >50% wants to request everyone register their bitcoin addresses. They will put these addresses to a whitelist, and only those transactions sending money to whitelist addresses will be accepted. They will also publish the whitelist and request all miners to follow. They will reject any blocks involving non-whitelist addresses. In order to survive, miners have to follow the rules and modify their bitcoind sourcecode to implement the whitelist policy.

Winklevoss uses the word "manipulate", which means "to influence or manage shrewdly or deviously".

Good point, thanks.
357  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "51% actor or botnet could manipulate the source code of the bitcoin network" on: July 03, 2013, 02:32:49 AM
Anyone WITH >50% of the network CAN write their OWN software and effectively manipulate the future block chain  almost anyway they like.... as long as they maintain the protocol...
They DON'T need to supply the re-written software to the other miners/ users of the network.
There are a number of 'myths' related to bitcoin one of which is that you must use the publicly released software.

Consider it like the MATRIX.
The system has 'rules' but you can bend them. IF you are the controlling interest.
If you change the rules to far, you are no longer part of the system but become a separate entity however any damage you did... prior to that is perpetuated by the remaining miners.

The paper is accurate in as far as it goes, its just not very well put.

Consider bitcoin as the crucible of cypto-currency research.
Some people are stupid/desperate enough to want to take experimental treatments.(or greedy enough to exploit their fellow man at every opportunity), just look at paid drug trials...

Let the fuck fest begin.......

Fail.....

Just run a mining pool.... then subvert it.

They don't 'need' to own anything.
As for the  no more viruses that is an even bigger FAIL.... you just target the infrastructure running the ASICs, you know.... the things like the Raspberry pi and hacked routers...

Thanks, good insight.

359  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Official PhenixCoin[PXC] Update Thread on: July 02, 2013, 03:35:20 AM
We are still here, we address any issue if anything comes up.

Call it learning from your mistakes.

When I posted the video and screen caps of games, the price of PXC shot up, for no other reason other then speculation.

When something is finished, we will update you on it. as JohnCar stated, I finished our backend transaction system.

What this does is give us an easy way for all other project to handle coin deposits and withdraws.

It is not a user system. I am now working on the front end side of things (User side).

With this new partnership, it was agreed that something else was needed before the exchange, so that is what I am working.

This will allow the others in the partnership to move forward with their plans, while I finish the exchange.

We are in no hurry to push projects out, when they are ready, they will be released.

PXC will stand on merits, not rumors..
