Updated the infographic: Divided them into separate pages to make it easier to quote, and compressed the png data size as well.
343  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: March 23, 2018, 01:55:49 PM
Theymos, can you add another infographic which I created a while ago to the above list?  I tried to make a more graphical and intuitive inforgraphic to help people understand the system easily.
Is it just me?  Or doesn't that page load too slow and the image is TOO BIG.  I did not even read it because it was loading too slow, and just seeming cumbersome.  If you make the image smaller, sncc, that might help it to load faster and to be more manageable so then others will read the substance?
Might be your internet, it loaded immediately for me. I'd agree it is too big, ideally, I prefer infographics that fit on one page. Hasn't the whole Merit Infographic thing already been done to death?

Ok I compressed the infographic, now it should be fine, see below, where I also created separated files.  While it was not possible to put all the information in a single page, one could use the separated page files.  I admit I was not quick to create the infographic but I think it is still useful compared to other infographics.

344  Other / Meta / Re: Mod, please check new plagiarism: Reporting copy/pasting, please permban on: March 23, 2018, 12:49:58 PM
The proper way to do this would be using the quote function. Example:
Yes I wrote the same thing:
The correct way is to quote zentdex's original posts.  However, mithrim never quote the zentdex's posts.

I don't think he should be banned (which is what this thread is for), but I do think he should adjust his references to be actual quotes.
I do not see the difference as creating these graphs and tables require a lot of efforts as you know, and it seems to me that posting them pretending as if he created them is nothing but plagiarism.
345  Other / Meta / Re: Mod, please check new plagiarism: Reporting copy/pasting, please permban on: March 23, 2018, 03:32:19 AM
I found the user mithrim has repeatedly posted merit stat graphs and tables, which were originally created by zentdex and posted in the threads:

[1] Merit Stat from theymos data
[2] Where the Merit Pours?

to German local threads and LoyceV's Merit data analysis.  Thanks to these posts, mithrim has collected 11 merits so far.

The problem is that mithrim typically does not cite zentdex, and seems to be pretending as if the materials were created by mithrim.  mithrim sometimes gave a credit to zentdex, but the citation is very small: For instance, you can see "*Quelle" at the end of this post for a link to zentdex's original post.

zentdex signed like "stats: by zentdex" in some of the graphs / tables, but not all.  As zentdex's analysis is quite informative, I understand people want to share it, and zentdex would be happy about that.  Needless to say one needs to give a correct credit to zentdex's hard work.

The correct way is to quote zentdex's original posts.  However, mithrim never quote the zentdex's posts.  The following is the current list of mithrim's posts.  I must say they are plagiarism, please check them carefully.

The list of mithrim's posts copying and pasting the graphs and tables created by zentdex

This post copies 2 graphs and 3 tables from [2], and mithrim obtained 4 merits.
This post copies 1 graph and 2 tables from [2].
This post copies 1 graph and 1 table from [1], and mithrim obtained 1 merit.
This post copies 1 table from [2] and mithrim obtained 2 merits.
This post copies 1 graph and 1 table from [1], and mithrim obtained 3 merits.
This post copies 2 graphs and 1 table from [2], and mithrim obtained 1 merit.

347  Other / Meta / Re: Merit stat & all transactions more than 40 Merits on: March 21, 2018, 01:47:14 PM
To date 179 posts have been given 50 merits by one person at one time.

Interestingly, there was only an additional 40 posts when I dropped the threshold to 40 merit or higher - 219 people.
Right, I guess those who send 50 merits at one time do not care or recognize if they would be marked as a suspicious merit abuser, and those who care it are choosing sufficiently fewer numbers of merits rather than 49, 48 ... 40.  I assume a certain percentage of relatively large peaks at 20, 25, 30 in the histogram in the OP correspond to such transactions, and they might have sent like 25 + 25 or 20 + 30 or maybe 20 + 20 to avoid to reach the upper bound of 50.  Of course they could stop just sending 20 or 30 if that amount is sufficient for rank up or they try to avoid to be marked as abuses.

I think focusing on the 50-merit transactions is the first step, as it is the easiest and most efficient way I presume, after which it would be good to consider more decent analysis to shed light on the relatively large peaks at 20, 25, 30.
348  Other / Meta / Re: A new rule is needed for bounty managers. Please share your opinions. on: March 21, 2018, 01:24:38 PM
Presumably most of the bounty participants are not using their main email accounts but I do agree with the OP as I do not see a necessity to expose the list of email addresses for public.  Even if they want to use the email addresses to update new information etc for bounty participants, of course they can keep the email addresses in their database, rather than expose them for general public.

The List of bounty campaigns exposed email ids:
Aeternum in all sheets
Fiancia in social media sheets
On.Live in youtube sheet
FroshFeel in signature bounty
Baappay in all sheets

Maybe we should list up such bounty campaigns like above and let moderators notice the situation and consider a new rule.

352  Other / Meta / Re: Why is there no Japanese subforum? on: March 18, 2018, 03:14:27 PM
日本が大好きだけど、ここで日本語があまり見られないから、新しい区分は必要じゃない。
As a native Japanese speaker I can tell your Japanese is very fluent!  Strictly speaking, there exists the Japanese local board but no child boards, so the request is adding child boards for Japanese local board.  While I agree Japanese community is not that big, I do not think Japanese community is so small compared with other local communities that have child boards as well as local moderator:

LanguagePostsTopics
日本語 (Japanese)29485137
Ελληνικά (Greek)313222333
Hrvatski (Croatian)208751035
العربية (Arabic)151691641

Note that the the number of posts and topics in Japanese board are data after the massive elimination of altcoin threads.  It seems to me that it is not unreasonable for Japanese community to have child boards.
353  Other / Meta / Re: Additional data dumps? on: March 17, 2018, 02:37:35 PM
It seems to me that some local boards do not have sufficient smerit distribution, and it would be good to clarify that directly from data dump, which would help designing an appropriate distribution of merit sources.  It would be useful to have

post ID, topic ID, board ID, merit

and check how much each local board is active and whether sufficient smerits are distributed.  Of course spams and non-high-quality posts will be counted but I assume they are roughly proportional to the total number of posts.
354  Other / Meta / Re: TEN posts that deserve Merits on: March 16, 2018, 04:09:27 PM
I don't think infographics is necessary to understand how merit system works. All stuffs have been mentioned in the OP written by Theymos, forum admin. Users who really want to learn and contribute to the forum should spend their time to read the OP (as the link sncc provided in his/ her thread). If they are too lazy to spend a couple of minutes to read, that means they are likely not able to contribute anything to the forum (because even with important things, they don't want to spend time to read, so I doubt they will spend more time to compose constructive threads to help forum users).
Ehh, some people don't have English as their first language so I can get why they prefer an infographic in comparison to walls of text and wouldn't really blame them. But the fact that they didn't do the research first and then apply is what really irks me really.

Right, while I also agree that it is hard to reduce the number of users who do not research, the infographics do help people understand the system, especially for ESL people as you say.  Theymos also thought that infographic is necessary and asked forum members to make it:

The forum ranking system is a bit complicated now... It'd be nice if someone made an infographic explaining activity and merit.
355  Other / Meta / Re: List up your best posts at Personal Text area on: March 16, 2018, 03:52:16 PM
For the first few replies to this thread, this is not begging merits.  It seems to me that some people are too sensitive for finding out begging merits.  It is a natural idea to list up one's best informative posts.  It is just like a selected publication list in academia.  In that case the purpose is to attract more people's attention and consequently to obtain citations, which corresponds to merits in the present case.

Also, I've already discussed in the OP that why I consider the personal text area is better than the signature area as it will also work for those who want to keep signature area.

People are considering a better way for the forum, see also this thread for an alternative suggestion.

Now let's go back to OP's post. I can't see any wrong about what you were doing and it is really indeed a pretty idea. That area is intended for advertisements and that should benefit you. Advertising one of your best post can really benefit you and IMO it is not a way of begging a merit

Right, my point was that it is the minimal way within the current system.  It does not have a limitation like advertisement at the end of the post discussed above.

357  Other / Meta / Re: TEN posts that deserve Merits on: March 16, 2018, 02:11:08 AM
There are two types of mertis: Merit and sMerit.  Merit is necessary for rank up, and sMerit is different thing, only for sending it to other users.  A certain number of sMerits is provided every month for merit sources to give them to other users, but Merits are not provided automatically.  See infographic below (https://i.imgur.com/TER5lGX), full version is here.

358  Other / Meta / Re: How do we get smerit credit by the forum? on: March 16, 2018, 01:53:55 AM
When theymos introduced the merit system, he distributed each user merit score necessary to achieve their rank as well as smerits depending on the user's activity in the last year, with upper bound of half of the initial merit score determined above.  Other than the initially distributed smerits, you do not get smertis automatically unless you are a merit source.  You can get smerits only when someone gives you merits to your posts.  You can get 1 smerit per 2 merits.
359  Other / Meta / Re: Yet Another Merit Thread (YAMT) But Hear Me Out on: March 16, 2018, 01:34:45 AM
Within the current system, a similar approach would be to show a list of the posts you would like to recommend for merit in the personal text area, see the left of this post, which I proposed here.  It helps merit sources to review quality posts and automatically resolves the issue in the OP as there is a limitation of the number of posts you could list, though currently there is no way to list recommendations of all users in a single view.
