since its now all synced back. does that mean its fixed? and how long will it take for the nxt-e and poloniex gets back up on faircoins again?

calm down mate. Poloniex and NXT-E will have to update too, and probably scan their database for weird deposits. Wait until tomorrow
344  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed coin. MANDATORY UPDATE! on: March 28, 2014, 02:13:03 AM
can someone explain to me why faircoin disappeared from nxt-e.com and coinmarketcap.com?

Read the last 3 pages. Forked.
345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed coin. MANDATORY UPDATE! on: March 28, 2014, 02:06:25 AM
i downloaded new wallet from http://fair-coin.info/#download
uhm i kept faircoin.qt and faircoind.exe
it didnt re-sync it just where like normal. replaced all other files

i got 5 connections, live in norway. and all my faircoins vent to un-confirmed. i also made a recovery, soon i crypt the hole wallet with some crazy password but too bad i dont have my 200 000 faircoins on it. and they are lost at nxt-e for now... lets hope for the best the next days.

DON'T DELETE WALLET.DAT !!!!

You need to delete the faircoin-qt and the faircoind, exe and all the other files and folders EXCEPT wallet.dat amd faircoin.conf.

The run the new faircoin-qt, let it sync and all should be good.

I dont use faircoind.conf . i dont need it, its just to create connections if you dont have it. atleast my wallet works fine without it so far. and wallet.dat is a backup file. (atleast i dont have that either, i just created one. its not in the download and its not appearing here for me. so i basically deleted everything except faircoin-qt and faircoind.exe wich means im gonna now download the file another time and just replace everything.

i also have a feeling that i bought faircoins from this guy who forked the hole thing and messed the coin up. wich means when this is over my 200 000 faircoins will be unconfirmed forever = lost them.

but if not then i will keep them. cause i bought them cheap and i really hope it was not from him. also XSV coin has dropped in price like 500%-1000% just like faircoin, both at the same time and btc go 100 dollars lowers making everyone sell their stuff cheap for bitcoins.

You must be trolling?
actually no, there is no need for faircoinf.conf file and the .DAT file is normaly just a backup file. even tho i deleted everything and replaced it, my 8 faircoins are still there wich i didnt care about, but my wallet is synced but coins unconfirmed. i tried to run the program in command prompt but say more about how i -rescan it. thats all i need to do to fix it.

Your data files are located in %appdata%/FairCoin, not in your Faircoind folder. That's why deleting wallet.dat won't affect anything, you're not deleting the real one.

To use the rescan function, a simple way is to create a shortcut of Faircoin-qt.exe, and add -rescan at the end

OR open a terminal (Windows Key + R, CMD) and change the current directory (CD) to your Faircoin directory. Run faircoind -rescan

who can post about the update to our chinese buddies?

What will happen to the trades on the exchanges? Basically, those who scooped up at very low price (200 satoshi) will be rich? Seems to be the case...

FAC dissapeared from nxt-e. Looks like owner was informed and reacted.

I'm asking him about weird, high value deposits. Waiting for an answer. Doing the same thing with Poloniex (Busoni) owner.
348  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed coin. New exchanges added! on: March 28, 2014, 12:51:14 AM
Now we need to contact Busoni and NXT-E

Obviously yes lol

the fixed version is ready!

but i'm a little worried about competing chains once we start updating. if we can have a few people with static ips (or at least open ports) to make a core group we may be able to avoid those competing chains
any volunteers?

What do you think will happen to the exchanges? Does the attacker still has his coins?

Indeed, were both exchanges on the wrong fork? It's possible Poloniex got away scot free, isn't it?

I think the attacker sent 50M coins to NXT-E. He even sold 5M coins for fun (check market history). If the NXT-E admin doesn't cooperate and rollback the transactions (which isn't even possible)...

He possibly sent some over Poloniex too.

I believe  admin should put a big bounty for a multipool.

Admin we need a multipool like BC is doing! What about you work on that when  ur done fixing the wallet problem?

You're optimistic. I don't think he'll be able to fix it though. It's a 4 BTC loss. Shit happens.
353  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed coin. New exchanges added! on: March 27, 2014, 09:55:07 PM
hi,
we're really busy with the coin, don't really have the time to go over the talk in the forum
can anybody please make sure poloniex and nxt-e stop trading

if we do fix it, the blockchain will be reverted and all current fac transactions destroyed
if we don't, the coin is dead and all the coins are destroyed as well

Yeah I'll try to hit up Busoni. He doesn't seem to answer.

poloniex is frozen since like 15 minutes.

What about NXT-E?
dont think so

I can't reach the owner. 9 pending questions. He isn't online.  What to do...

Well, this doesn't sound too good. Dev please give us an update.

I've invested lots of time in FAC and never sold a single coin.

He's working, not paying attention to the internet.

 Cool

I'm just curious how you know about that?
Are you a member of dev team?

I think the dev maybe won't look some guys crying ,  like me....  Wink

Lol, if the coin dies, do you want to know how much I lose? Somewhere around 4BTC

There are much worse cases, such as Mt.Gox. Ever thought about losing $500K USD?

The owners of Cryptorush, $200K USD?

$1500 USD is pocket change

Also, I already fear that it's too late. The coin is already damaged. The attacker has deposited millions of FAC into exchanges and is waiting to dump.

Okay its officially dead. Too late
359  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed coin. New exchanges added! on: March 27, 2014, 07:17:19 PM
You need to do this ASAP, dev. Or else the attacker could essentially edit all the past transactions and reward himself with the coins, deposit into exchanges, withdraw BTC, etc. The possibilities for an attacker are endless at this point.

Hope you know what to do, or else we're fucked for real
360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed coin. New exchanges added! on: March 27, 2014, 06:59:22 PM
OKAY PEOPLE. SERIOUSLY.

REMOVE YOUR BUY ORDERS, ALL OF THEM. I don't know if Busoni (dev of Poloniex) has stopped FAC deposits.

My fear is that people can sell for BTC now, and when Busoni rollbacks to the past blockchain (before fork), everyone will have their coins back in their wallet.

I've never actually went through a fork like this, but I do know DOGE and WDC have forked in the past. I don't know about what happens to trading on exchanges. Buy at your own risk.

but how can anyone send faircoins to the exchange when everyone's coins are orphaned?

Pabloangello, depends on whether the dev is capable of rolling back to the last 'good' block.

shadypepe, well, the attacker can probably send his coins to Poloniex. That's what I fear.

I actually don't know the technicalities, but some people say it's even possible to create transactions, rollback, and confirm them again at a later point, which would completely destroy FAC. I think we'll have to ask someone more knowledgeable, unfortunately.
