341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ [ANN] ECCoin (ECC) ★★★ ECCoin - Green Future on: May 20, 2014, 03:53:03 PM
Maybe we should organize a "miss ECCoin" competition.
But a decent one, no nude or pornography pls, it's bad for ECCoin!

Don't have a "miss eccoin" photo comp - its sexist, and being "official" damages the reputation of ECCoin and the people involved.

Much better to have a "pics of people promoting ecc in funny/interesting places" competition thats open to anyone regardless of gender, ethnic background, or sexual persuasion.

Give it some simple rules like:

1.  Must include a readable sign in the photo with the new logo and the name "ECCoin"
2.  Must be at least one other person in the photo who is the audience for the sign
3.  Must not be placing anyone in danger
4.  No nudity (needs to be workplace-safe)

Then people can submit pics of themselves on the underground, in remote mountaintop villages, flying an ECCoin kite in the carpark of the CN Tower, in the snowboard park, or anything else that's cool.

I agree, no miss ecc, and I like the rules you've presented

And after Monero was supposedly instamined they switched to Quazarcoin
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=600658.0

And the story goes on and on and on, just like with hundreds of forks.

This is not an official announcement, the coin existed prior to March when DStrange started this topic. The coins were mined in almost already 2 years.

Where does your information on pre-mine of Monero come from? Please cite a source.

Hostkey30 and hostkey31 have been offline for the past 40hrs!!!! wtf Huh

No point posting here. Nobody comes here until after they have a problem. Look at all the posts! Try contacting leaserigs.net, point them at this thread and the guys useless rigs might be removed.

Why is everyone hating on pandher?

He asked a fair question. To code from regular signatures to ring signatures isn't exactly trivial, but at the same time I'd argue it's not overly challenging. Could you not say after block height x use ring signatures, and check signatures using regular signatures on addresses occurring before x? A private key would already exist which is helpful.

Pandher, what has the Monero dev actually done beyond simply cloning Bytecoin?
"Roughly 86% mined in 4 years", can't say I'm a fan of that distribution.

Darkcoin has incentivized nodes.
It will supposedly have I2P and ring signatures. If master nodes are delivered as promised, I don't see why these couldn't happen as well. With ring signatures master nodes aren't as important as mixers, so we could use them for broadcast points or some equivalent in the I2P fog. I don't think people understand what a great feature master nodes are for network stability and scalability. Bitcoin is suffering a loss of nodes because the blockchain has become so burdensome, all that upkeep/bandwidth for no reward.

The first thing the Monero dev did was to remove the pre-mine. No pre-mine. It looks promising.

Mining Monero is like waiting for a bus. None for ages, then along come three! Go extremepool.org Smiley

This logo has grown on me. So far, this is my favourite.
347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 18, 2014, 12:43:15 PM
I've got a couple of questions.

First, I'm mining on extremepool.org. "My Stats" shows that my hash rate is only 2 H/sec with a single core processor. Yet if I solo mine with the daemon, it shows my hash  rate as 9 H/sec (with the newest update from 17 May). What could be going on with that? Is the pool miner using the older, less-optimized code? At 2 H/sec, it seems I am wasting my time.

Second (and more importantly, I think), where the heck is all this hash power coming from?? It looks to me as though all of the pools combined account for only a very small percentage of the total hashing. It makes me wonder whether someone (or several someones) have figured out how to GPU mine Monero, and are grabbing most of the coins. If so, that is functionally equivalent to a private pre-mine, and I predict it will be bad for the long-term viability of the coin. And that would be a shame.

Any ideas?

First thing, the stats on a pool are usually based upon the shares you submit. Thus, it takes time for the pools stats to "catch up" and show you the real figure. Give it more time, and it should reflect your hashing power.

Second, who knows. If someone has cracked fast GPU mining, then lucky them. There's nothing forcing them to share their secret. From what has already been said in this thread though, I doubt GPU mining is responsible since theoretically it should not be faster than CPU mining.

Bittrex tweet says they would like assistance from a dev to add cryptonote coins. Someone should get in touch

Yeah, Bittrex would be a very very good addition. They're also very responsive and fast to add.

yeha but if i cant get my wallet to work how will it ever load my mined monero? surely there must be some1 who knows why this error keeps coming up Sad

Before you run simplewallet.exe, you must run bitmonerod.exe, and give it time to sync.

When bitmonerod has synced, it will say Syncronized OK in green writing. Leave bitmonerod running, then you can open simplewallet and allow it to refresh. Simplewallet refreshes by connecting to bitmonerod.
349  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 18, 2014, 10:24:04 AM
Ok, so besides mining I think I'm gonna spend some of my scrypt earnings on monero.

But wouldn't it be wise to hold out a bit buying it? I mean surely the influx of new coins will be bigger once there is a gui wallet and gpu miner and "proper" pools? Or am I wrong?

Depends how you look at it. More people might start to use it when there is a GUI wallet, and/if Monero is added to Bittrex and other exchanges. So greater demand would in fact increase the price....maybe?!

I hope so. I've bought plenty and I'm mining too.

I'd like to make a public service announcement. Before I do, though, I'd like to say, all pool owners involved have promised to fix their issues, and I am not being paid, nor am I affiliated with the pool I'm going to recommend.

PSA: Both moneropool.com and moneropool.org are insecure. I'm not going to release details until I've given them a reasonable period of time to correct the issues, however, I will say that moneropool.org seems to be a LOT worse than moneropool.com, and none of the three pools I know of use a seperate server for the actual mining (which is very important when that server holds other people's money.) The admin of moneropool.org acknowledged the extreme issue with his pool, and promised to fix it (as of right now, it's unfixed), but he seemed to blow off the idea of either putting httpd in a VM, or on another server entirely. The admin of moneropool.com acknowledged the slightly severe issue, as well as agreeing the httpd should be moved or served out of a VM.

I'm going to recommend (and switch to immediately) extremepool.org. While their httpd is still on the same server as the mining daemon, they have no severe security issues - in fact, their security is excellent, as they seem to have taken several steps to secure their server, far beyond the default configs - and I spoke to the admin, who appears quite knowledgable and experienced in securing a server.

EDIT: Two pool admins have promised me MRO donations, moneropool.com and extremepool.org. However, I wrote this before I knew the admin of extremepool.org was giving me anything, so I believe the statement in my second sentence remains true.

I'm now mining at extremepool.org too. I noticed also that I've not been paid for my shares at moneropool.org despite one or two blocks being found hours ago.

To be fair, that's not a 100% sure sign something bad happened. I heard they do payouts manually.

Oh yeah, I didn't mean to suggest that. I suspect I'll get the coins. I think they had auto payouts working in the last day or two, so it's just a wee nudge for the pool owner, that's all Wink
351  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ [ANN] ECCoin (ECC) ★★★ ECCoin - Green Future on: May 18, 2014, 08:41:01 AM
How the fuck do you use the coin control feature in v1.5 Huh

Also, I have had ecc for 6 months and have never minted one single coin. Don't even ask if I have the wallet open.. Angry All my other POS coins mint daily. uggh

ECC is only 3 months old. I minted all my coins ages >42 days with no problem.

You can check the age of your coins by enabling 'coin control features' in the option settings, then go to "Send coins", click "Inputs" button, then select "List mode".

Nice...Thank You Joele ... I meant 2months. Oldest was 1k, bought on 3/15. Just bought some more few days ago. Those 1K should of minted...

I read somewhere about the amount of coins required in order to be successful when staking. given the number of ECC out there, 1k might not carry enough weight to stake. I'm just guessing with this though.

Maybe when you have, say, 100k which are older than 42 days, you will start to see minted coins.

Where do i see how much i have mined?Huh I'm mining for an hour now, didn't receive shit

maybe the pool didn't find any blocks.

simplewallet: type refresh

I opened simplewallet.exe and it says 'wallet file name:' what do i have to type?

Have you already created a wallet address? If so, you will have a file in the same folder as simplewallet.exe, probably called wallet.bin. So type wallet.bin

If you have not have this wallet.bin file, I'm not sure how you can be mining, since you must enter your wallet address to begin mining.

I've found 3 blocks since launch and have commited my alias to the blockchain forever.

My hashrate is about 3 MH / s.

Can you please tell me how many coins there are per block? Cheers

I hope someone improves the windows minning daemon, it is getting about 20% usage.

Is it possible to run the daemon on Knoppix?

If yes could you provide some help to do that?

My CPU usage is 100%. Did you specify the correct number of threads for your CPU?

i.e. boolbd --start-mining [wallet-address] --mining-threads 8

Pool mining available, or only solo just now?

Automatic payment went out for moneropool.org. Was everyone paid? TX ID: fb379aa81ce5360ed7d43e9589b9e492d16a09fe5d57d8faa7658fc642f6e44f

I was paid. Very quickly after finding the block too Smiley

Hi all!

I've been mining MNR on moneropool.com using the easyminer - no block found for 20 hours there, that's ok...
Anyway, I see easyminer created file called wallet (don't see the extension of it, what is it? ) wallet.address and wallet.keys... So i copied the wallet file and tried to load it in simplewallet and it can't be loaded with it, is it the way it should work?

Thanks in advance.

It is likely wallet.bin.

To make things easier, when you have Windows Explorer open, go to >Organize >Folder and search options >View

Uncheck the "Hide extensions for known filetypes" option and press OK.

You should now be able see file extensions for files like wallet.bin, simpleminer.exe, etc
360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 17, 2014, 04:00:35 PM
so, i'm on moneropool.org, a block was found, theoretically i should receive my share, right?

now the tricky stuff.. i downloaded the blockchain, placed it in the appropriate folder. next i start bitmonerod.exe?

since it does stuff (synching the blockchain?) i'll just let it run for a while.

later i'll just start simplewallet.exe and type "balance". am i correct?

pretty much. once you get green text saying synchronised OK from bitmonerod.exe, open simplewallet, type your wallet filename (mine is wallet.bin and lives in the same folder as bitmonerod and simplewallet).

The simplewallet balance will refresh automatically from bitmonerod each time you run it. If you've left the wallet open, you can manually refresh the balance by typing refresh in the simplewallet client.
