341  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Terminus R606 750GH (up to 1TH) quiet miner, now shipping on: June 09, 2019, 01:03:46 AM
Sorry to ask a newb question, but is there a Raspberry Pi image that is recommended or official for hooking up to these?
With the 8A power brick, is it safe to use all speed settings, or only up to around 400?

Here is a link to instructions installing and configuring CGMiner on a Pi

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5053833.msg50968875#msg50968875

Each unit is tested at 550Mhz on the 8Amp brick so you should be able to do at least that.

so I would suggest dropping to  775 or 750 since you are getting less hash then I do

I add this fan

I reset it to 750 before going to be last night.  The hashrate averaged at 1014 and power consumption went down to 106 watts.  I'm going to test on the Win7 side of the same laptop over the weekend and see if hardware differences have anything to do with my low performance on other hardware.

For now it's back to power level 4 on the Pi doing around 740Ghs at 69 watts.  I find the low power consumption for that hash rate pretty cool.

I'd cut it back to 750MHz. Should get the same hashrate but about 6% less heat. Sounds like your utilization is only about 93%.

It shows WU:94%  I set to 750 for the night.  The light were solid so no overtemp.  The case didn't feel hot at all and the air exhaust didn't seem too hot either.  But 800Mhz just made me a little nervous, so I took your advice.
Thanks,
Sam

... how much hash do you get 1.1 th?

The Average is 1.012 Ths.  I'm using a PC Power supply w/the 6 pin.  It's still holding at 800Mhz.  It seems stable so I guess I'll let it run overnight.

I'm doing some more R606 testing on my laptop running Ubuntu 18.04.  It looks like it has stabilized at 800Mhz on Power Level 7.  Is 800Mhz safe?

The R606 with Power supply is pulling 113 Watts.  With the fits Win7 and the Pi were giving me, I wasn't expecting it to actually do 800Mhz.

This new version doesn't do well for my R606.  I've tested on my Win7 Desktop and my RPi 3.

Code:
9e51f0b

5/29/19 build
Ubuntu 18.04 MSI GT80 Laptop
5            675Mhz        867Ghs
6            731.25Mhz    935Ghs

I've never achieved 750Ghs at Power Level 4 nor approached 1Ths.
Edit: Ubuntu on my laptop does seem to do much better.

Update: I setup the current CGMiner on the Ubuntu side of my laptop and it does seem to do much better.  After I finish testing on the Ubuntu side I will repeat the tests on it's Win7 side.  This is different hardware than my other Win7 installation on my Desktop PC.

Just a reminder too that it's not done tuning until T: & P: are the same value (or within a few MHz).

T = Target and P= Plateau, correct?

This is what mine is saying now at Power Level 7:

Code:
0: GSI 10040033: BM1387:12+ 668.75MHz T:669 P:663 (12:5)  | 94.9% WU:^89% | 872.4G / 818.1Gh/s WU:11429.3/m

@os2sam just another data point. With the new build (8e62f0b)
On my Ubuntu 18.04 low power celeron 1.83GHz x 4 box:
my R606 at voltage level 4 and 575 MHz
I am seeing 780 GH/s right now connected to ViaBTC.

The previous build would not get all three GSI units up to 575.  I would see something like 568/568/568 ...

Very happy with the new build on linux anyway.  Can't speak about Windows performance.

Also, on the Ubuntu box I do have to run with --gekko-lowboost , leaving off that option will cause all GSI units to eventually go offline.

I do have Ubuntu 18.04 on my gaming laptop.  After tinkering around with the Pi I feel more confident with the Linux setup.  So I may give that a whirl as well, as a test.

It's powered with a Seasonic 650W 80 Plus Titanium P/S. I tried ck's solo early on and it got the same results as Kano and both show 12+ so ASIC Boost is enabled. My PC is setup for gaming so it has a Quad Core I-7 w/16GB RAM so it should be powerful enough. The only other USB devices now are the mouse and keyboard. It seems the Pi and the PC have roughly the same performance.

I have a Intel I5 pc. Can't we run this connected thru usb port alone? We need separate psu to run this?

As per the Top Post it uses 60 to 120 Watt's.  A USB port can't supply that.  You can buy the Power Supply with it.
351  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience NewPac / Terminus R606 (BM1387) Official Support Thread on: May 19, 2019, 05:03:40 PM
I have a standard keyboard and mouse connected to my Pi.  So I'm guessing the combined demand was too much of a draw.  I could test it later if need be?

Edit: I tinkered a little just to satisfy my curiosity.  The Pi says during bootup that it detected an undervoltage and displayed a lightening bolt every once in while in the top right hand corner.  But it did boot up this time with and without the keyboard and mouse.  It detected the undervoltage both times though.  I have a Pi 3 B+.  I didn't let it ramp up to full power though, I just shutdown and went back the RPi P/S.

I got my Pi running yesterday.  So far I'm getting about the same performance as I was with my Win7 PC w/ Quad Core I-7.

Also the Pi wouldn't boot when using the miner as the power source so I'm using the Pi Power supply.  I'll do some more testing today and post my numbers.

I was able to get this working on my Raspberry Pi ...snip...  Below are the steps I took in order to get it setup and running.

mstrozier,
Thanks for your instructions, they got me going with my new RPi today.  They were a big help.

588Hhz @ Voltage level 4 sounds pretty good.  If your shooting for a higher frequency why haven't you set the voltage higher?  The power draw seems high, but I have no idea what your power supply is consuming.

I'm testing a run at Power Level 6 and it's at 681Mhz and drawing 91 Watts, ATX Power supply and R606 only, although it may still be tuning.

Edit: yep it was still tuning.  Seems to have settled at 656Mhz.

Thanks.  I suspected as much.  Not good!  Tried it first with the new HP power supply, then dropped back to a 20AMP 12 volt brick. Same blinking lights with both power supplies.  Fan does run.  I can see the orange light on the pcb inside the unit.

You probably need one of the new CGMiner released for the R606 as well.

Thanks.  The R606 arrived today.   Regarding the VCore lights on the R606, are they supposed to alternate blinking?   It is very hard to figure out what the VCore setting actually is since they alternate from one state to the other continuously...

Those lights are supposed to be solid.

Hopefully you will have better luck than I did with the RPi.

That's kind of why I said hopefully.  Smiley

I read your post of issues after I already ordered my kit.  But hopefully it will work out.  It seemed like others were using Pi's successfully.  We'll see, the Pi thingy seems really cool anyway as I've never looked into one before.
358  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Terminus R606 750GH (up to 1TH) quiet miner, now shipping on: May 15, 2019, 11:38:13 AM
I want to make a few internal changes to help smooth out some testing steps, nothing that'll affect the end user, but it's not a simple re-order.

So, will batch two be a left handed miner too or will you make a right handed one this time? Smiley

The power buttons are on the left of the lights so my right hand covers the led's when adjusting the power.
359  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience NewPac / Terminus R606 (BM1387) Official Support Thread on: May 15, 2019, 09:35:47 AM
It will eventually settle near P: (Peak)

But it shouldn't have reached 700MHz, looks like I have another round of adjusting to do (note to self).

631.25 is where it settled overnight.  It would never reach the 750Ghs mark before and last night it was stable over 800Ghs for the first time.  I'll do a run tonight at power level 4 just to verify that it reaches the 750Ghs mark.  BTW I'm running Win7.  My RPi should be in today and I'll get that setup over the weekend, hopefully.

It's been quite a while since cgminer has been flagged for me.  Of course it has been 3 or so years since I've used any version of CGMiner too.

I'm assuming that this version has some instrumentation code that may not be normal?

The hash checks out, as long as my dyslexia hasn't flared up Smiley

Thanks,
Sam

Wow, this new version just went straight to 700Mzh with no issues on voltage level 5.  The other versions would only go to 575Mhz on level 5.

Edit: It did finally re-target to 631.25Mhz.  But that is better than the 575Mhz my R606 got previously.
