341  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Amazon GC no longer available through Gyft - Alternatives? on: May 08, 2018, 02:40:29 PM
I've done a few successful swaps for Amazon GC in the last couple of weeks, prior to yesterday that is..

i tested the amazon.com card thing inside the bitpay/copay wallet yesterday. it worked perfectly and was near instant. i wouldn't bother messing around with anything else myself.

Looks like a few people at least think bitcoin is better than baby hrains.
343  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: BTC + Altcoins VS National Cryptos on: May 07, 2018, 04:14:56 PM
a 'national' crypto would have the exact same problems as current currencies. you think they'll launch something resistent to inflation and debasement? of course not. a government controlled crypto makes all the horrible things they do now a whole lot easier.

if every nation had one then it would inspire more people to look to currencies independent of government meddling.
344  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum , is it the future ? on: May 07, 2018, 04:11:40 PM
the longer i spend studying crypto the more convinced i am that the vast majority of what's around right now is proof of concept with no real future.

ethereum won't be used by the masses unless it becomes much simpler and much less clunky. someone will come up with something that does what it does better, cleaner and in a more foolproof manner.

that's if crypto switches to actual usage. if it doesn't then none of that matters.
345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Reasons why I believe we'll see XRP 10 $ before End of year! on: May 06, 2018, 11:18:55 PM
I am sure that it won't happend because partnerships that you mention are not related with ripple coin, they are related to ripple technology.

for better or worse, and i don't know which but it's certainly dispiriting, i don't think this matters too much. crypto traders are so stupid that they can't differentiate between the value proposition of the coin itself being used versus the technology being licensed and the actual coin being left behind.

they treat it as the same. maybe one day they'll be wiser but for now it's all about half guessing the real moves and that's enough.
346  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees - Hard Fork 15 May 2018 on: May 06, 2018, 11:02:54 PM
LN has one thing, centralize transactions via the channels hub.

let's see it up and running with thousands of users before rolling that one out. it could well be true. it could not be the case at all.

more than anything i've come across in crypto before i've no idea how lightning networks are gonna pan out. there are so many variables and so many people working on different angles. it could develop into something amazing or wind up an absolute dead end. for every positive a negative seems to pop up too.
347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Iota buggy? Does it have potential? on: May 06, 2018, 10:51:12 PM
I dont see anything but good marketing in iota project development. Devs are a bit edgy too.
They have knowledge but it just appears they care more about the image

iota will be just another forgotten footnote in a few years.

at best it's a proof of concept and the more knowledgeable and professional will come up with something else that does the job a whole lot better and in a vastly more secure manner.

it's been great for lining the pockets of the developers. it won't be used for anything else.
348  Economy / Economics / Re: The relation between Bitcoin and stock market prices - has it changed? on: May 06, 2018, 10:41:26 PM
Based on what I remember, the early Bitcoin was priced more like a hedge against corrections in the stock market.

early bitcoin as in the mt gox only days? there's no way you can make a comparison with the hugeness of stock markets to something on one crooked market that was tiny and in a faraway land.

i think it's gonna take a long time before there are consistent and detectable patterns between bitcoin and other markets. bitcoin is still super reactive to news that would not affect any other market in any other way.

maybe with 20-30 years of history we'll be able to make some conclusions. until then it's too chaotic and patterns that people do start to have faith in will be smashed repeatedly.
349  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees - Hard Fork 15 May 2018 on: May 06, 2018, 10:16:41 PM
Either Mow is a mere empty suit, or BCH is clearly superior in its scaling approach by every measure. Likely both.

samson mow has always been a troll and a lightweight. i don't really know how he wound up being listened to by anyone.

i'm still waiting to be convinced by lightning networks. the more details come out, the more unwieldy and unworldly it looks to me. but then so do giant blocks too.
350  Economy / Speculation / Re: Chinese Investor bought 10,000 bitcoin during the dip! on: May 06, 2018, 10:12:16 PM
Of course that I'm impressed with the money he invested, but I'm assuming he didn't went all in, so maybe this was a "normal" investment for him.

the article says he's worth $1.5 billion, but most of that must be tied up in companies so it's nowhere near being available cash. he must've put in a sizeable percentage of his liquid wealth.

i presume he has an exit strategy with some even richer buddies looking to buy it off him.

and 'china' is kind of irrelevant in this context. people like this are transnational. they're not bound by one country's attitude to anything.
351  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are centralized cryptocurrencies safe? on: May 06, 2018, 10:01:49 PM
before bitcoin was invented there was no shortage of digital currencies. every single one of them was centralised and they all proved to be ultimately useless because of that single point of failure.

i really wish there was a demonstration of the necessity of bitcoin's decentralisation. it's literally the only reason it has value and it's also the first thing most idiots want to get rid of to make it 'better'.

you can't retrofit it. once it's gone it's gone and the party is over for good.
352  Economy / Speculation / Re: Chinese Investor bought 10,000 bitcoin during the dip! on: May 06, 2018, 09:55:43 PM
man, how far we've come in such a short time.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=92.0

crypto time truly is proving the theory of relativity. time runs faster at the cutting edge.
353  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Reasons why I believe we'll see XRP 10 $ before End of year! on: May 06, 2018, 09:45:45 PM
i'll be genuinely appalled if it reaches 10 bucks and will take it as an absolutely certain sign that the crypto markets will take an even bigger shit than bitcoin did in 2011, not that ripple belongs anywhere near a crypto market anyway. there is nothing to justify $1 or 10c let alone anything beyond. i can't believe it's swollen as much as it has.
354  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [04-05-2018]Cryptocurrency Investors Bet Trading Will Survive Bank Ban In India on: May 05, 2018, 10:03:34 PM
the chinese are quietly trading away in large numbers despite the all out effort to cut off all avenues for them.

bitcoin never really went anywhere in india so interest will rise just as better p2p methods come along. soon there'll be some really solid decentralised options. there won't be any way it can be stopped no matter what banks try.
355  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can the massive creation of Altcoins can be stopped? on: May 05, 2018, 08:11:45 PM
The ICO market is like a food market.  A lot of competition and a lot of sellers of food.  Most food isn't food at all.  You think you ate something but an hour later you get sick.  You paid for something, it was really cheap and you liked it when you bought it, but then you get sick.  Now imagine 90% of the food sellers sell crap food that make you sick.  Will you go to that market again?  No, until there are regulations, the food market will be a place to avoid.  If YOU happen to know the places where you can buy real food, you're lucky.  But as long as crap food is allowed, the market will get flooded by crap food and after a while, you don't know either anymore. Undecided

it's all caveat emptor right now. no one's gonna save you. all this stuff will have to iron itself out and that's how it should be.

the avalanche of crap is not gonna stop. it's gonna get more crappy and more insidious. that'll drag the morons down and push the quality projects higher.

regulation won't stop it. the only thing that will is to let it play out which is exactly what's happening. this may suck for many but it's necessary and natural.
356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Main] Bitcore- BTX - SEGWIT - hybrid fork 1:0.5 of Bitcoin on: May 05, 2018, 05:27:09 PM
We should get BTX supported in Exodus Wallet.
The support all the Shit Bitcoin Clones. Like Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Gold.
But they dont support "Bitcoin Pink"

Why would we need exodus when we have already dedicated wallet?
Also I remember people criticised transaction fees which could not be controlled.

This could only be good to embrace bigger pool of new customers but from perspective of a current user  Lips sealed

users want an easy life and if there's a coin they can slot into an existing wallet then they're more inclined to go for it. i'm sure adding it to coinomi gave it a boost for new users too.
357  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: The entire market cap of cryptocurrencies is speculation isnt it? on: May 04, 2018, 05:39:59 PM
yes. and bitcoin is 99.9% speculation too. the rest are a cool 100%.

when people shout 'utility' when it comes to ethereum, the only utility it has is creating more shitcoins and ICOs. that's not solving a real world problem.

the party will stop at some point. it's up to people to have something useful to show for all this before it falls to the floor. there's nothing out there yet.
358  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Havven (stablecoins) will be the next big thing I tell you on: May 03, 2018, 04:59:51 PM
why are people excited about this when its whole purpose is to be, uh, stable?

by that definition if you make or lose any money with it then the entire project is a miserable failure.

a solid, transparent and viable stablecoin is great for the health of the market. it don't mean much for the moonkids.
359  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ⚛️ [ANN] Bitcoin Atom - Fork 1:1 of Bitcoin - Atomic Swap Powered ⚛️ on: May 03, 2018, 04:54:52 PM
Wow, I was interested in Bitcoin Atom a few months ago, I really didn't expect this degradating value of this token. I hope it will raise again, my god.

it's just some fork. why would the price be anything special? there'll soon be hundreds of them. i'm impressed any of them are worth anything.

stuff like this will pump like crazy some day. until then i won't be doing anything with it. the patient will be rewarded.
360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees - Hard Fork 15 May 2018 on: May 02, 2018, 08:59:03 PM
Nevertheless I do not understand why there are so many poeple hating it.

the psyops and deception involved, not that bitcoiners have been much better.

but when you look at places like bitcoin.com's insidious attempts to fool newcomers into thinking it's bitcoin, when it isn't, then it's easy enough to understand the hostility.

one of the highest ranking bitcoin gateways should not be pulling some of the stuff they have.
