341  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Question about hosting datacenters on: June 13, 2017, 08:50:57 PM
Those numbers are way too high.  Each R4 uses under 1KW.   Hosting should be in the $65 range per KW range, maybe as low as $40 per KW.   You probably got quoted for all 4 per month.

Let's see how this holds up over time.
If it works well enough, feel free to quote it Phil.

seems to work now

It took a couple of passes to find and deactivate the various possible ways of caching.

Also a misc note, you have 516 in the OP, and 616 as pick end on the latest posts.
343  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How many times for a very big amount of bitcoin on: June 13, 2017, 05:49:28 PM
In general, once the transaction is broadcasted, you don't need your computer on.

How long depends on included fee / ( inputs + outputs ).

If done correctly, a few minutes to an hour.

Looks like it can be useful in a number of situations.   I'll post more on it with some photo when it arrives and when I have a chance to test it out.

Thanks klintay.

They've finally arrived, and well packed.

Too bad they are intended for someone else.   Maybe...  Grin
346  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What is the current data directory size of the bitcoind? on: June 12, 2017, 11:01:31 PM
For looking into the future, it appears to grows close to about 5GB a month.

I recall reading you can go from usdt to btc there without issue.  That was a while back, but I suspect it is still true.

You need the private key to sign transactions, it creates an exposure point.

You can create a transaction in isolation (off-line), sign it, write the resulting raw tx on a piece of paper, walk over to an online system with a browser and broadcast the raw tx.

The math required to sign a transaction will likely require some computing assistance.

The closest you can get is to create a new off net system that you can leverage, expose the key to temporarily (while off-net), and then destroy immediately when you have the raw tx.

349  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: mempool.us.to/tx.html on: June 12, 2017, 04:23:33 AM
It's a dynamic dns subdomain, which appears to have lapsed.   It's not likely to return back to what it was.

You can get a good estimate of when tx will clear by watching the climbing or falling trend here:

https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#2d

Select the fee range that matches the tx fee.
If your fee is low then you will need to wait until the graph trends down for you to have a chance.

Check out the Bit-Wasp library from https://github.com/Bit-Wasp/bitcoin-php.
The Factory class BitWasp\Bitcoin\Key\PrivateKeyFactory should get you there.

Is it profitable? I bought one from Amazon and with default settings, about 10Gh/s I earned 0.00000716BTC the 1st day. So in about 5 years I will earn 0.01BTC (without calculating power cost) which is way too low.. If I did not do any mistake or misunderstood something it seems there is no point to use it.
Even if I increase frequency eg with 25Gh/s I will earn 0.01BTC in 2 years...
Please tell me if I am wrong.

Small USB stick miners, like this one, are more for getting started in the bitcoin mining game. They are mostly a learning tool, but also a way for you to join the community. That said, the miners do contribute to the distributed nature of the bitcoin network. Unless you are solo mining and find a block, which is not impossible, just highly improbable,  they will not return your "investment."

Yes, they require a little hands on effort to get going; a nice entry step into learning [a lot] more about bitcoin mining.

As far as how it ranks in the theoretical BTC/day space, and a glance at other miners, visit this miners table:

352  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: June 12, 2017, 02:41:50 AM
I've been hashing away at 200 MHz with 2 2pacs for several days.  I stopped everything, slightly upped the voltage on one that was producing occasional HW errors, and restarted cgminer.  Now cgminer cannot see the second chip on that stick.  cgminer now reads "COMPAC-1" instead of "COMPAC-2" and the hash rate reflects this.

I've restarted and reset everything I can, reduced the voltage, and isolated the stick but I cannot get cgminer to find both chips anymore.  Did I push it too hard?  My setup includes a usb fan, perhaps that wasn't enough?

Sounds possible.  The second chip is unhappy and not replying.  Not sure how to undo that.  Let it cool down for about 30 minutes before plugging it back in?
353  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: June 12, 2017, 02:36:49 AM
Blame that to Windows 10. I bought GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer from Eyeboot since its free shipment. Its take 2 months to get here. After that I ask a friend to get the item in main post office. I'm very excited and test right away. Original cgminer work but some times get usb error. After that I see your thread and test vh's cgminer. It's work perfectly after 8 hours of use. Then usb stop working and get a lot of error. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series.

Keep an eye on the number/id to the left of the device and the WU value.

If the number is increasing or the WU is not equal to ~150/m, then it is not actually working well.

355  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is there any on-block exchanges? on: June 11, 2017, 06:13:18 PM
shapeshift.io is probably the only currency exchange that is close to what you are looking for.

Buy/Sells on exchanges that depend on blockchain confirmations introduces too much latency and risk so you won't see it.

Latency being a very big issue for users.   Risk being a problem for the exchange.
356  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 2 unconfirmed transactions - not eligible for abandonment on: June 11, 2017, 05:19:04 PM
They linger in the mempool of bitcoin nodes for about 72 hours before being dropped.
But that particular wallet you are using will probably rebroadcast it for about 14 days by default before timing out and giving up on it.
357  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: June 11, 2017, 03:32:07 AM

So, could it be the hardware defective issue of the stick?

With two of them side by side, it appears one is officially different.   Give the voltage adjustment a try to wake it up, but yea, it may be time to reach out to eyeboot for an exchange.

Edit: missed the message where you did.
358  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: June 11, 2017, 03:27:17 AM

Hi, I did installed the Zadig WinUSB driver on both sticks, and my other stick runs well. Just the problematic stick shows the error message.

Problematic Stick:

I have yet to see that privilege error happen to one device but not another.   Its a pre hardware communication error so it can't directly indicate a hardware issue.   Odd.
359  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: June 11, 2017, 03:08:57 AM
If you bought from eyeboot, it's a green stick. Note that the board it's build on is green. The ones in Europe are made with a black board.

Have you tried adjusting the voltage a bit higher and replugging it?

Yes, i also tried to adjust the voltage as mentioned in page 2 but without any luck. I turned to 1/8 clockwise, unplug and wait 2 secs and plug again. I also tried 1/4 turn, unplg and wait 2 secs and plug again.  Nothing has changed, problem still remains. ><

Pls advise and help.

Consider plugging them one at a time into a different computer, if available, to see if they behave the same.

Hi, I just tried to run the problematic stick on Windows environment, and it shows error message "USB init, open device failed, err -3, you don't have privilege to access - BSC device 3:11"
But when I type the following code, it sees the device.
Code:
cgminer.exe -n

Screen:

If both 2Pac do that then double check zadig WinUSB is installed and reboot your PC.
360  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How can I check my balance on hardware wallet such as Trezor or Ledger? on: June 11, 2017, 03:02:22 AM
Thanks! Didn't know about sites like blockchain.info and https://etherchain.org/

Just to make sure I understand correctly, does this mean each cryptocurrency has its own blockchain, and so each one would have some website that lets you look up the public address and see the balance for that specific cyptocurrency?

The blockchain is a public log of all transactions.    There will be multiple sites available to access the balance of any address, including some mobile apps you can load public address into as monitor only to get balance and activity notifications, while still keeping your keys secure.
