maybe they're just trolling and JPM just stands for "just playing, man."  Cheesy
3402  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin on the cover of Time magazine on: December 11, 2013, 07:28:14 AM
we made it on the simpsons, and now time.. and then we have CNN and other major news networks covering it. it's early stage mainstream now. it's amazing how fast it happened - i got into bitcoin this year and now it's just gaining so much steam.
3403  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is a Madmax outcome coming before 2020? Thus do we need anonymity? on: December 11, 2013, 05:31:38 AM
if this were the case, i better buy me some gold to stash. i don't think it's happening though.. the rich elite rule the world, and they do it in tandem with big brother.
3404  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-12-10 MacRumors - Apple's Tumultuous Relationship with Bitcoin Apps on: December 11, 2013, 04:06:34 AM
Ben is afraid to update the app because it would trigger a re-review. The whole situation with Apple is a disaster, but fortunately iOS is getting its ass kicked pretty much everywhere outside the USA. In Germany iPhone's market share is about tied with Windows Phone at about 10% each, in Spain iOS and Windows Phone combined are actually less than 10% of the market.

In poorer countries iOS is likewise absent.

At this point, it's primarily places like America and the UK where iOS still has serious market share. Hopefully over time that problem will resolve itself.

i wouldn't say it's absent.. it's considered more of a premium product. that's the perception, at least. and to be sure, apple charges you as if it were.

"Mark it..." So no one in this thread mistakes my joke for seriousness...

It's a league game...

yeah, well, uh, that's just like.. your opinion, man.
3406  Other / Off-topic / Re: Sell your apple stocks now, war is amoung us on: December 11, 2013, 03:45:53 AM
if i had apple stock, i would have sold a long time ago.. they don't really have anything interesting coming down the pipeline, and they hardly spend any money on investing. seems like they just have a lot of cash on hand. that's a sign that they are starting to get fat and bloated. i can't really think of anything revolutionary that they will come out with, or any service that would do well.
3407  Economy / Marketplace / Re: In this thread is a link to some horny photos! They are NSFW! I like tips :) on: December 11, 2013, 03:26:17 AM

3409  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 11, 2013, 03:21:27 AM
Mark it. $200 by Friday.

'nuf said.
Uhh... that was a joke, nitwit. Made obvious by the tone. I was quoting someone else.

Hard to tell what is and isn't a joke with you, I guess.  Sorry bud.
"Mark it" is from "The Big Lebowski" - you would have to be culturally illiterate to not understand the reference. And to think I believe we would really be heading as low as $200...Huh

i don't even remember the "mark it" line and i'm a big lebowski fan though.
3410  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Illuminati JPM Chase makes move to kill BTC on: December 11, 2013, 03:19:26 AM
maybe JPM is looking into funding terrorists and drug cartels. it obviously wouldn't surprise anyone at this point. it's not like they have much of a reputation to protect  Cheesy
3411  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Question regarding the legality of pumping and dumping crypto-currencies. on: December 11, 2013, 03:06:41 AM
The US government can and will do whatever it wants.

Now, why "pumping and dumping" should be criminalized is beyond me. Can anybody explain without vague platitudes like "market manipulation", or "fraudulent buying"?

If you buy alts, buy them for good reasons; not because of momentum. If you want to speculate and get burned in the process, you'll learn for next time.

As I see it, if the SEC regulators are so good at distinguishing "pumpers" from "investors", then they can just short the coin themselves and profit. That ought to be the only "regulation" going on--not jailing thoughtcriminals.

because it tips the scale of balance to the wealthy elite. the more swing you have, the more influence you have on manipulating prices. allowing this to happen will create an unfair game where the regular joe ends up losing.
3412  Economy / Economics / Re: Close any accounts you have with JP Morgan Chase ASAP on: December 11, 2013, 02:38:26 AM
i still have to keep my money with them until mid next year to get my $200 cash. but yeah, i don't plan on using them for any payments. i need to sign up for a credit card with my credit union.

it will be a pain in the ass to my credit score when i close my credit card though.
3413  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How long until BTC gambling sides are shut down? on: December 11, 2013, 02:33:05 AM
I don't think it matters the sites let you gamble in BTC. They will probably start getting their domains seized and stuff soon.

If the domains are seized they'll just either move to one outside US control/influence or to TOR. It is too bad too, the US is frittering away its lead in many areas. Although after the NSA scandal, perhaps that is a positive for the world if not the US

yeah, the U.S. doesn't completely control every country in the world, though it sometimes seems like that. they'd either move their sites to the darkweb or go to some safehaven country.
3414  Other / Off-topic / Re: Sell your apple stocks now, war is amoung us on: December 11, 2013, 02:30:46 AM
let them do it. if apple is even trying to compete with bitcoin, it will end up losing.. and current users who want to use bitcoin will leave their platform.
3415  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2013-12-10] LA Times: Are Bitcoin believers the new Apple fanboys? on: December 11, 2013, 02:25:06 AM
it kinda might be true though.. what i've seen from some of the "to the moon," and "bitcoin will be 100,000 by 2015" people. they can be so involved in their passion that they can only see everything in BTC

except ... so far they have been right,  for 3 years we have had exponential growth in both network adoption and correlated pricing. So at this point it is not so much mad, irrational 'passion' but purely past performance and expected growth rates ... although such radical mathematical realities can be otherwise sane people sound crazy and 'passionate' I accept.

thinking that bitcoin has long-term growth potential is not the issue. it's just the people who have wildly unreasonable expectations. the kind of people that think bitcoin will take over fiat currencies as THE world payment system.
3416  Other / Off-topic / Re: Silkroad 2.0 on: December 11, 2013, 02:21:11 AM
What are the legal issues if your package gets intercepted by the postal system?  I guess you cant really be charged can you?  No proof that you actually purchased it?

probably.. and even if they could prove it, they most likely don't have enough money to pursue every small time buyer. they are probably more interested in pursuing the sellers and big time buyers.

3419  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Will Bitpay overtake Paypal in the near future (i.e before 2016)? on: December 10, 2013, 08:39:23 AM
I doubt it will over take it by 2016. But it will definitely cause them a lot of headaches going forward.

Lol... that should be the case. Personally saying, I am not too much concerned whether Bitpay will overtake PP or not (although it will be really good if it happens). If PP reduces their fees in order to be competitive against Bitpay, it will be a great victory for the digital currency.

Paypal is incredibly convenient and almost universally adopted by the main seller sites online. I know that I myself love Paypal to death and cannot imagine online commerce without it. I think it will be much farther than 2016 if ever.

It'll be interesting to hear your opinion on their fees and other charges.

i know my opinion is that.. fuck paypal. i sell some on ebay and the fees are about 15% per item i sell (ebay+paypal fees). that's pretty god damn exorbitant to me, as i can't imagine them needing more than 4% for expenses. what i hate the most is that they seem to raise the fees on an annual basis, and they try to spin it as "good news to you."
3420  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and centralization on: December 10, 2013, 08:35:13 AM
there isn't that big of a need for cryptocurrency if you can create as many as you wanted. that's the biggest selling point for BTC.. if you remove that, so many people upset with the current economic system wouldn't put their money in.
