He shouldn't be allowed to profit from it anymore. What would've been a better alternative solution?

Well. There is a better solution. Remove his ownership, and give it to any of his children. Donald Sterling is already 80 years old, and he is not capable of looking after an NBA team. He has three children. Give the ownership to any one of them.

i'm not an expert in law, but if he just "gave" that money to his kids, it would probably get taxed. so if the NBA forced him to "gift" his kids the franchise, it would still cost him millions.

How much does a 4 TB SSD cost right now? I can get a Seagate HDD 4 TB Desktop Internal Hard Drive from the Amazon for just under $200. I don't think that the SDD will ever get this much cheap. The WD 4TB 3 1/2" Desktop Internal Hard Drive is even cheaper.

Don't ever buy them from big brand stores like Staples or PC World. You can get them much cheaper if you look around online or on ebay. I got a brand new Western Digital 4tb external hard drive for a little over £100 on ebay a while back.

i bought my 128GB kingston v3 SSD for $65 over 1 year ago. everywhere else, it was at least $80. staples has some of the best deals if you know hwo to shop with them.

buying on ebay, there's no guarantee and your warranty might be voided if it's not from a retailer.

I actually got some of my drives from PC World's ebay store and they were much cheaper by about £20-30 than the actual in-store or online price. Came with warranties too.

maybe it's different in the UK. everything there seems to be more expensive. sucker.

i've already checked once today, probably a few more times. much better than how it was during the last bull run. i was probably checking 50 times a day.

I've been a fan of Russell from way before he was famous and regardless of what anyone says about him he does have a lot of interesting things to say. He's going to have to find a balance between being a Hollywood A-lister and an outspoken libertarian (or whatever you want to call him) without looking like a hypocrite though (not that you can't necessarily be both). He's a very intelligent person and I agree with the vast majority of what he has to say, but I really hope he doesn't ruin his career because of his outspoken views as I can easily see him getting blackballed and falling into obscurity like many others who speak out against the norm or MSM etc.

I also love how Russell manages to woo pretty much any woman that he comes into contact with. I suspect that's why a lot of men hate him haha.

i'm a fan of his, and also a meditator like him. he's pretty awesome. i know some people criticize him for "preaching" while living with abundant wealth, but it's not a big issue for me.

btw, if guys hate him, it's because he kind of has a bohemian/hippie style to him. and they hate that.

I think criticising his wealth is a petty topic really and that's usually also just out of jealousy, but I'm sure there are many reasons why people, especially men, dislike him: wealth, fame, looks, intelligence, Englishness, eccentricity, outspokenness, and most of all the sheer amount of women he's slept with and they haven't  Cheesy.

And I don't get the whole meditating thing. I've always been a sceptic of it but maybe I just don't understand it.

you should try the meditation before being a skeptic. doesn't that make sense?

and being british makes him hateable huh.. i didn't know people hated brits. i think the people who don't like him because he speaks freely and has that hippie vibe - lots of americans hate hippies, mainly the conservatives.

What do you define as a hit though? I haven't really loved one of his films in over a decade, but I'm pretty sure they've all done very well at the box office.

Some of them did OK at the box-office. But most of his recent films were just average (with the exception of Men in Black 3). For example, Cowboys & Aliens collected less than its budget expenses from the box-office.

lincoln won awards and had lots of buzz. it's not that he's necessarily slipped, it's just that he hasn't been really directing many films lately. he has directed 12 films since 2000.

Never bet against silicon.  Due to Moore's law the cost of a CPU in terms of computing power per dollar has improved by a factor of nearly one billion.   I am sure in 1980 someone said the same thing about CPUS and they are wrong by a many many many orders of magnitude.  The same thing will happen with SSD.  It is only a matter of when.

yeah pretty much. it's also economics - scale economies. in the mid 90's, a midrange computer would run you $2,000. it had windows 3.1 on it and couldn't even play compressed mp3 music.
2408  Other / Off-topic / Re: Donald Sterling Racism Controversy on: May 04, 2014, 06:46:43 AM
yeah, and since he bought it for pennies on the dollar, he could stand to lose 200-300 mllion from that alone. i think the NBA shouldn't have the autonomy to force a sale.

the news is also out that he is currently battling cancer, so the guy might die before the litigation is over.

Litigation will be of no use to Donald Sterling. NBA acted according to their rules and Sterling has no argument here. Too bad.... he may get some $400-500 million after the taxes, which is not too bad IMO.

lol... one leaked phone call and a loss of $233 million. Be careful billionaires.  Grin

you do know that the nba's rules can be contested right? especially if they are misusing their powers. sterling is going to at the very least drag this one out.

i wonder what's going to happen if he ends up dying and his heirs receive the franchise.. would the league try to force his kids out? because that wouldn't be fair.
2409  Other / Off-topic / Re: Donald Sterling Racism Controversy on: May 04, 2014, 04:45:04 AM
yeah, it was a bit harsh in my opinion. if he does sell, he will probably get lowballed.. not to mention capital gains taxes. he bought the clippers for 11.5 million and now it's worth at least 600 million.

Since it is a forced sale (auction-type), I don't think that he will get more than $300-400 million for it. So a net loss of $200-300 million. No one will be happy with that sort of loss.

disagree. there are many, many suitors and they would still have to compete amongst themselves. despite him being forced to sell, the demand for nba franchises is pretty high.

The price could go close to a Billion USD, since the team is in LA and winning now.
Even the crappy Mil Bucks sold for over $500 Million.

2410  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How United are the States? on: May 04, 2014, 04:44:01 AM
United states are not United you can see that clearly, Dems repubs and other parties, how do you call that United?
All united behind the idea of bigger government and more debt.

I disagree with that. The US public debt increased significantly only when the Democrats were in power. The GOP, whenever it could tried to reduce the fiscal deficit and the public debt.

where did you get this info? clinton left a surplus; obama sent out some stimulus because the economy was fractured. let's also not forget that republicans make a killing with the defense industry - it's kind of their thing.

I have some doubts about this? Does Donald Sterling own 100% of the Clippers? Also, how much (percentage) of Capital gains tax he will have to pay, to the American tax authorities?

i read it would be a pretty heft tax. it says if he sold for 700 million, he'd have to pay 233ish million.
2412  Other / Off-topic / Re: What video games do you play? on: May 04, 2014, 03:53:02 AM
you guys are right. i meant mmorpgs. i used to play console rpgs, those were good memories. don't think i could play them again though.

i remember chrono trigger, final fantasy, secret of mana, zelda, wild arms, lufia, breath of fire, etc. they were my favorite genre back in the day.

I used to play Secret of Mana on SNES and Zelda ofc. I finished them so many times, great games.

i have a problem with free 2 play games.. if people don't troll (since it's free to play, so if htey get banned they'll just make a new account), then it probably has an ecosystem that sucks the money out of your wallet (in order to keep you competitive). hon has a pretty bad community with trolls all over.

While some F2P games sure are like that, there are others. E.g. DoTA2 or TF2.. Yes people are ... "not nice" sometimes, but you dont have to buy anything to play, its just cosmetics.

how does dota 2 compare to hon anyways? i hear they are very similar. when i tried dota 2, the graphics were really bad though.

That youtube video is extremely wrong, check this out.. http://www.wired.com/2010/02/what-is-time/

Time does exist, it's not in our minds. If humans were to become extinct tomorrow, time would go on. Time is simply a dimension, and was started the same moment space began expanding during the big bang...

as i said previously, i don't think the statement should be an absolute "time does exist." it's still relative to the seer.

2419  Other / Off-topic / Re: Time Does Not Exist on: May 04, 2014, 01:00:56 AM
time is still the same if you are looking at your watch right now, and the person on another planet looking at it now. it's the motion that causes the dilation of time.

I am not exactly sure where to find the research, but if you watch this video they talk about it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9JIXoQPxOo

Time is able to be measured, but using time and space we can not account for our own universe and it's neighbors. So, no matter how much you prove that time seems to be there, it's just not. We have more to learn and Time is just the "God of the Gap" we have for now.

it's just a mindfucking clusterfuck. so many things in nature are paradoxical, yet they exist somehow. just like atoms that exist as both a wave and a particle.. how can it be two mutually exclusive things at once?

i think in the end, with time, it's best to just say that it does indeed exist - but only subjectively. there is no such thing as objective time.
