3401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: BW.com L21 - Litecoin (scrypt) ASIC miner - unofficial speculation thread on: June 19, 2017, 09:20:58 AM
At least it looks like they might actually sell some of these units, as opposed to their Bitcoin mining units that never did end up going on sale to the public.
Specs are inferior to the L3+, but quite close for a 28nm unit vs the L3+ apparently being 14/16nm.

Price though - they better be ready to drop it FAST once Bitmain gets close to shipping their next batch.

Given what I've seen dealers selling the L3+ for right now though, they MIGHT get some sales.

Hopefully it will also pressure Innosilicon to drop their INFLATED pricing on the A4.

Security grate installed over the window - but that will tend to advertise that you have something valuable in the home.

3403  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Who uses an extension cord for their rigs? on: June 19, 2017, 09:11:52 AM
A 12 gauge, or a pair of 14 gauge (1 per PS) should be enough to run your setup.
I'd seriously consider going to 10 or 12 respectively though to reduce voltage drop and heat buildup - and keep in mind that the CONTACTS are going to heat up quite a bit in any event, the heavier-duty cords will tend to have heavier-duty contacts as well.

However, no matter HOW you do it you are not going to meet code - the NEC specifically prohibits the usage of extension cords for "permanent" installations.

This is not to say that you can't use one SAFELY, if you take proper precautions against tripping over the extension cord or letting critters chew on it and such.

I don't see there being an issue with the "hole in the drywall and put a pipe in it" idea, that actually CAN meet code if done right since you're not breaching a firewall.

3404  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Low Budget Mining GPU on: June 19, 2017, 09:01:41 AM
Unless you get VERY lucky, you're not going to find any HD 7870XT/7950/7970 or R9 280/280x/290/290x/380/380x/390/390x under $250 of late.
I've even been seeing HD 7850/7870 cards listed over $200.

Pricing on those has gone through the roof the last couple of months, as they are all good ETH or ZEC (or both depending on the specific model) mining cards.

Best bet at this point for a low-end mining card is probably the GTX 1060 or RX 560 (460 if you can find one but those have been out of production for a month or two).

Welcome back to 2013/2014 - but this time it's not just Scypt (and later X11), it's a whole BUNCH of different algos and their farmers eating AMD cards like candy and begging for more!

At least this time around NVidia is competative on SOME of the "bigger coin" options....

3405  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Memory limit like DAG size but for other currencies on: June 19, 2017, 08:47:42 AM
Only ETH and it's offshoots like ETC have this issue.
3406  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Can you mine at home anymore? on: June 19, 2017, 08:44:35 AM
GPU based rigs tend to be pretty quiet, if you set them up properly.
3407  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Need to start mining (MASSIVE BUDGET) on: June 19, 2017, 08:43:34 AM
We need more information before we can make any meaningfull suggestion.

Primary concerns are "what is your power rate" and "what is your climate".

Secondary concerns include "how good of ventilation setup can you have at your mining location" "how close are neighbors that might get irritated and lots of fan noise" ....
3408  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: want to get into mining: how accurate is https://99bitcoins.com/bitcoin-mining-c on: June 19, 2017, 08:41:20 AM
HD 7750 will do 50-60 sol/s appx on ZEC mining.
I'm not sure on the power, but believe it would be less than 50 watts on ZEC - the ones I used were all in low-end single-card machines and the total system power swamped the GPU power usage.

Forget trying to mine Bitcoin (or any other SHA 256 based coin), Litecoin/Doge (or any other Scrypt coin), or DASH (or any other X11/X13/X15/qubit coins) on it as those all have ASIC-based miners available and no GPU can compete.

3409  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Speculative Question on: June 19, 2017, 08:37:02 AM
I might consider paying a premium for "now", but not 2.5 TIMES the price.
It is very iffy that you would recover that much in mining income between now and when the L3+ ships.

This should be over in the altcoin mining thread, since it's not Bitcoin related.
3410  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bit coin mining on: June 19, 2017, 08:35:23 AM
Way too many variables to say "yes" or "no" - and this has been discussed in many previous threads.
3411  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: LEGIT or QUIT List of Safe retailers on: June 19, 2017, 08:33:55 AM
Thanks so much for the experience. I was considering buying an S9 from HolyBitcoin before Bitmain brought them back online. Good to know they can be trusted for next time.

Once there's a few more posts, I'll make a master list with everyone's input (and Holybitcoin in the Legit section).

I had an issue with HolyBitcoin selling me a ... think it was an S5, might have been a SP20 .... then turning around and "out of stocking it" and so they could relist it at a higher price - but to be fair, they didn't charge me for the unit they just didn't live up to their sale price on the order I placed.
I was also more than a bit ticked that it took them almost 2 WEEKS to let me know what was going on with my order.

Amazon listing, and I DID get to "negative" review them over the issue since the order HAD initially been accepted.

3412  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Question about powering an ASIC - Please help! on: June 19, 2017, 08:29:51 AM
Also keep in mind that the S7 "power requirement" spec is "at the wall" using a 93% efficient PS - so the actual draw would be a little less.

However, trying to power 2 hashboards from an 850 would be very marginal at best.

2 hashboard on that Seasonic 1000 and the third + miner control board + fans on one of the 850 however should work fine.

3413  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: PSU for Antminer S9 on: June 19, 2017, 08:27:20 AM
Server power supplies from reputable makers can last a very long time.

Delta isn't as well known for their power supplies as their "OMG THAT'S A LOT OF CFM BUT LOUD" fans, but they have been quietly making some of the best in the business for a long time - and many "Dell" "HP" etc server power supplies supplies are Delta-built.

3414  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: The Blocks Factory - Multicoin pool on: June 19, 2017, 08:07:47 AM
For the R9 series, 15.12 remains the "go-to" driver version - nothing later is more efficient, a LOT of the later drivers give worse results.
I honestly don't think AMD bothers testing the "Relive" series on the R9 cards, since they want you to move to the RX series and Vega instead of sticking with 3+ year old card designs.

3415  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASUS Mining-P106-6G Coming Soon on: June 19, 2017, 07:58:01 AM
Given how many of the rumors cite June 19 for release date, we should know for sure Real Soon Now.

3416  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's ZCash AMD GPU Miner v12.5 (Windows/Linux) on: June 19, 2017, 07:42:28 AM
ok so what is the best way to dual mine ZEC & x pair with NVIDIA, does Claymore support this, or is there a better alternative ?

Is anyone actually getting good results with ZEC / DCR on Nvidia, or ZEC / anything ?..

ZEC isn't memory limited - unlike ETH - so trying to dual-mine it isn't going to work well with anything.

The ONLY reason ETH can be dual-mined effectively is that it's not pushing the GPU cores very hard, so they have a fair bit of room to "play with" doing other stuff at the same time, as long as that "other stuff" doesn't push the memory interface very hard.

In any event, Claymore doesn't work with NVidia cards, he's strictly AMD.

3417  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fourth alt coin thread last three got oversized. on: June 19, 2017, 07:37:05 AM

there is a GTX 1080 "GP-104-100" 60Mhs ETH

I'll believe that claim if I see it. There is no way they could DOUBLE the performance of a GTX 1080 on ETH while leaving it on GDDR 5x (excessive latency issues), and even if they moved it to GDDR 5 (not X) I doubt they could get it to 50 even with super-upgraded memory timings.

On the other hand, I've seen 30% power savings quoted for the GP104-100 - THAT seems possible, especially if they "factory undervolt" it at all compared to existing GTX 1080 cards.

I manage to get the Windows-to-Go on a USB3 32GB Sandisk Cruiser.... and surprisingly this guy boots up fast in every brand of motherboard I have.

Occasionally, W10 complains about low disk space but I manage to keep the thumdrive lean after installing TightVNC, Google Drive, Claymore and EWBF

Anybody knows if I can remove the other stuff Windows have like, Paint, Media Player, Mail, Photo Viewer --- SEE BELOW etc?

Win10 won't let you delete some stuff, but stuff like Paint and Media Player should be deleteable.
I used the 16GB version of the Cruiser on some of my LINUX rigs for a while - impressively fast for a USB drive you could buy at Wal-Mart at the time.

How do you turn off the colors on the text on this miner?

The "dark green" and "dark blue" and "dark grey" on a black background make it IMPOSSIBLE to see anything about what this miner is doing on some of my monitors even when I turn brightness and contrast ALL THE WAY UP the text is so washed out I can't read it.

3420  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]CureCoin - Protein Folding Research based Proof of Work on: June 17, 2017, 05:24:39 AM
Perhaps ask cryptobuillions or the FLDC folks where they get their data?

On an unrelated note, is anyone else getting a ton of "can't upload completed work units" issues on some of the cancer-related projects over the last couple days?
