Good idea. Though I think I'll sit that one out, seeing as I only learnt about ScummVm and SCUMM yesterday after looking at the DOSBox news. This is despite the fact I have a special place in my heart for a few of what I now know to be SCUMM games, like Loom, MM2:DotT and Hero's Quest. No bother, I shall take care of it. Hopefully after we succeed with DOSBox. The games you mentioned, among others, have a special place in my heart as well, and also on my gameshelf.

I don't think such a thing as anonymous loan will ever be possible - Bitcoin is like cash or gold. Would you lend either of these to a person you don't know anything about? It's hard enough to get money back from some people you actually know, leave alone the people you haven't even seen and that live a few thousands kilometers away.
In that aspect Bitcoin is no different than cash - you must know your customer. That's what I think, anyway.

Sounds very good to me. I would just change "sell them for USD" to "sell them for USD (or other currency)" or something along these lines. We shouldn't assume they are all Americans. We shouldn't assume, and it looks like Qbix might be dutch, but they currently solicit only USD donations. It's not guaranteed they can convert BTC directly to their local currency (I know I can't). They will probably be satisfied to know they can receive the more familiar USD. Also, should they ask, I'll recommend them to use CoinCard which only gives USD. Being able to convert directly to their required currency to save some exchange fees will be useful to them later on, but at this point it looks to me like unneeded clutter. Yeah, I seems you have got the point there. Btw, I think our next target could be http://www.scummvm.org/

How many BTC do you guys think we should collect before talking to DOSBox?
I think we already have enough for a very good chance of convincing them. I plan to contact them on Saturday. Keep the pledges coming until then! Having a greater pledge might encourage them to post their address in a more prominent place. Every little bit helps. Of course, they will surely also appreciate donations they receive afterward. In the mean time, I'll submit for review the phrasing I intend to use (to be sent to the email address in the crew page). Dear DOSBox crew, Thank you for creating DOSBox, a source of great joy to appreciators of classic PC games everywhere. I would like to interest you in starting to accept bitcoin donations. Bitcoin is an Open Source decentralized digital currency. Among other things, it allows easy transfers of money with no transaction fees. You can read more about Bitcoin at http://www.bitcoin.org/ . The Bitcoin community has pledged to express their gratitude to you by donating X BTC (equivalent to roughly $Y USD). The funds have already been collected in a dedicated holding account, and we will transfer them to you as soon as you post a receiving address on your site. This, of course, is in addition to any additional bitcoin donations you may receive in the future. If you find no other use for bitcoins, you can always sell them for USD in one of the bitcoin exchanges. Getting started with Bitcoin is extremely easy. I will be happy to offer instructions as well as answer any questions you may have. Thanks, Holy-Fire [where "Holy-Fire" will be replaced by my meatspace name] Sounds very good to me. I would just change "sell them for USD" to "sell them for USD (or other currency)" or something along these lines. We shouldn't assume they are all Americans.

I have an idle ATI 5770 that I would like to mine with. However, I do not have a motherboard, memory module(s) and CPU to make a complete system.
If you're interested in forming a partnership to generate some Bitcoin shared revenue, feel free to post below or contact me.
I have a spare PC or two. What kind of partnership are you looking for (apart from the pedofile bit )? What's the hashrate of this one? I send you the card. You set it up. We split the profit 53/47(me). And what's the hashrate of 5770?

Guys, sorry that I still haven't put up that spreadsheet - have been busy with work and college. I will try and do it tomorrow evening (GMT).

As long as you have the proper power supply connections (you should) and a motherboard with 2+ PCI Express slots (which yours has), the hardware angle will be simple - plug both cards in, attach auxiliary power, turn on pc!
Every OS I know of should be perfectly fine with this configuration.
Thx mate, asking because I've never done this before, I'm crossfiring my card actually but this case is not the same haha =D @Mahkul : I've been mining for 2 weeks, so I know how to deal with software side, just did not know how to deal with hardware side ^^ , I'm using win 7 64 bit mate. I only asked, because I got fed up trying to get two GPUs working on Windows XP and switched to Ubuntu. I am not saying it is impossible on Windows (some people got it working), but I ran into problems myself. I have no experience with it on Windows 7, so you probably will be fine.

Actually, I am going to pledge 40 BTC more; so 50 BTC from me in total.
That's great! Can you also send it to the collecting account? I want to be able to promise DOSBox "you have X BTC waiting for you" and honor it as soon as they post an address, rather than having to wait until everyone checks back for updates. Sent.

Apparently MS never learned from their first mistake "No one will even need more than 640KB of memory".

There are plenty of tutorials on this forum in the mining section. What OS do you want to run it on?
|
|
|
Yes you can - for the miner it doesn't matter what GPUs you have on different slots.

Mahkul, would you mind updating the OP with information on successful converts? Perhaps a link to an online spreadsheet that lists business information along with the name and Bitcoin address of the individual who contacted them? This would make it easier to determine when each person that has pledged needs to send off a bounty payment.
Yes, I will create something like that later today or tomorrow the latest.

Mahkul, I think you misunderstood cw's pledge, which is: 1 BTC per shop 0.1 to 1 BTC per organization No more than 10 BTC for all shops and organizations combined
Thanks for pointing that out. Corrected.

How old are the Sapphire ones? I can pay you 700 BTC.
Where are you located? Would you be willing to split the shipping cost? I am within the EU.

Thanks for starting this thread. I will pledge 10 BTC.

I'm contacting econstories.tv, the group that made the Keynes/Hayek rap video. Would love to have them as supporters of bitcoin!

I convinced Pioneer One to accept Bitcoin donations over at the facebook page. Hey, I want to make a Bitcoin Donation!( http://bitcoinme.com/) Could you share your address? Also, if I make a Bitcoin donation(You can exchange it to dollars if you want) am I still elegible for the goodies at Vo.do? https://www.facebook.com/pioneerone You must scroll to see it. There was a guy behind me that didn't convince them. I made a 10 BTC donation and a promise of 5 BTC per episode. After that they just started accepting it and some days after they made a publication of the address and Bitcoin. It is a strong addition. This is their publication: By request, now accepting Bitcoin donations. Our Bitcoin address:
1CQcavqNsXkm6x2osFrfS8TFFrFUTZ9YC2 (3 Days after my donation and some friends) And a member of Pioneer One crediting me as the one who cause them to accept Bitcoin Donations. Thank you for turning us on to this. So far we've received 21.63 BTC and it looks like the exchange rate to USD has jumped up to $1.01 You can pay to the donation address: 1Jq6iz4actiCRq1AuxiXv1iNkCQhcu2Szk That's grand, but this happened before I started this thread.
