Did Rich222 get banned?
Not yet from what I can see, but just a matter of time.

Shitposters and hardcore bounty hunters rarely leave the forum for good, even if they're banned.  It's just way too easy to start over here, and it always has been.
Oh yeah, he is definitely coming back. He probably heard somewhere that he can make money via signature campaigns so he won't give up so easily. He is not the sharpest tool in the shed though and not learning from his own mistakes as he managed to get busted for plagiarism 2 times in these two weeks since he showed up with his previous account Edith1994.
3782  Other / Meta / Re: Extended Ranks Proposal on: March 02, 2022, 08:28:26 PM
While it definitely is something that artificially changes the way users act, it does actually provide motivation. When there's a limited rank that only a select few will ever reach, then some genuine users will be motivated by that.
Yeah I understand that, but we have so many things already at our disposal to make distinction between power user and just some casual forum member. Right there on profile you can see someone else's activity and merit, and then if you have that browser extension you can see bpip ranking, DT status etc so is another rank really needed? And what when many people reach that rank, should we get new ones, making forum look like some endless mmorpg grind.

A long time ago Legendary rank sounded proud and divine. But now Legendary rank means nothing.
You mean back in the good ol' days where all you had to do is write one mindless shitpost each day (might as well been one of those bounty authentication posts) and in a couple of years you got Legendary rank. Classic rose-tinted glasses case.

Some farmers pump this rank in a short time. This rank has turned into something like a Newbie
In what universe is 2-3 years short period of time? You can farm as much merit as you want, but you can't speed the activity.

At now the Legendary rank achievement is very buggy
It's not buggy, it just has some RNG element to it. AFAIK, activity number needed to reach Legendary is decided when you create the account. I personally wouldn't mind if its fixed number like for other lower ranks, but don't mind this either. What's the rush anyway, is there something that you can do with Legendary that you can't with Hero rank?
3783  Other / Meta / Re: Extended Ranks Proposal on: March 02, 2022, 09:50:03 AM
Hero and Legendary already seem pompous enough names, which are difficult to surpass without going into the realm of the gods.
+1, while I would put "getting into the realm of bullshit" instead that bold part, as that's what making up new ranks just for the sake of it looks like to me.

Since the Merit System was set in motion(*), 182 Legendary members (48 from scratch) have ranked-up needing Merits in the process, and 173 Heroes (71 from scratch). Not that many considering (besides all those pre-Merit System ranked members also existing).
This also serves as an answer to those asking for increased merit requirement for current ranks as they don't realize that very few managed to reach Legendary rank since merit system kicked in, compared to the amount of new members.

There could be room for additional ranks, although I wouldn’t say that there is any seemingly good reason for it beyond elevating the ego of those that would meet the requirement, at most.
This sums it up really, its all about the ego and that's the one thing I noticed on all forums; after they spend a lot of time on some forum, some people start taking it way too seriously and even substituting real life accomplishment with the forum ones. I am not saying that all people asking for more ranks are doing that, but I've experienced that more than once in the real life.

All these demands for the extra titles, ranks, badges and whatnot reminds me of the image below. Do we really need that?  Grin

3784  Other / Meta / Re: Extended Ranks Proposal on: March 01, 2022, 09:53:02 PM
IIRC, Theymos has hinted about adding at least one new rank, and members have chipped in with suggestions for name and customization, big however this should happen, then besides an activity count there would also be a new merit requirement that one should reach to attain this new rank.
He did? Can you please point me to that post?

The only thing I could find about him commenting on adding the new rank after Legendary is when he classified suggestions in Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them) post and that specific suggestion about new rank was in the "no" group.

Anyway, I really hope that there won't be any new ranks as I don't see who would benefit from it. Maybe only people that are taking this forum way too seriously and wanna separate from others more than it is possible now.
3785  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Oraminers.com Review For Scam Website - Be Cautious - SCAM on: March 01, 2022, 09:36:17 PM
The problem is that users of this forum are always scammed even if they are warned on this forum because they think like you and other members here that don't see the small details and connect the dots! I rly don't care and I'll keed chasing @smooki3 till he has no more breath! cheers!
What you obviously don't understand is that I personally don't trust @smooki3 or that he has legit intentions here, but you simply didn't provide enough evidence for me (or any other forum member  that looked into this so far) to tag smooki3. As simple as that.

And don't you worry about me not being able to  connect the dots and see the small details here as I busted, tagged & flagged hundreds of scammers here on the forum but circumstantial evidence is not good enough. He may very well do what you claim. but there is absolutely no proof that he is behind this linzhi.cn.com just because he didn't make a thread about them yet. I mean, in one of his posts he even says that Linzhi.io confirmed him that they are the only ones selling Linzhi Phoenix miner.

I start searching for some information about evominers.com and asked the official manufacture Linzhi.io about this website. Unfortunately they answered me that this sale is fake and I can buy Linzhi Phoenix only from them. So now I'm left here without money and without miner.. Don't make my mistake.

By the way, is there any post where he said that linzhi.cn.com is legit?
3786  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Does anyone now about this website Storeaus.com on: March 01, 2022, 04:42:37 PM
Website looking like it was made in the 1990s without basic modern functionality, no social media presence, no info whatsoever about the exchange on the external sites are all big red flags to me. So yeah, avoid it like a plague or get scammed.

@OP how did you even found about this exchange, who suggested it to you? And why would you even considering using this completely unknown exchange and risk your money when there are so many well known exchanges with decent reputation.

If you guys want to have fun reporting shitposters like this one:

Project is good

Just keep an eye on that one.. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5387145.0

Looks to me like classic airdrop activity. I checked their website and they do have an airdrop going on at the moment (https://dashboard.flagnetwork.finance/airdrop) but comments on bitcointalk are not part of it, while I was pretty sure that I would find something there, some reason to get that thread nuked.

By the way, that Flag Network looks dodgy AF even without that thread bumping/whatever they are doing there, starting from most likely fake team.
3788  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: March 01, 2022, 08:58:31 AM
People have gradually lost interest in writing/reading, preferring to speak on podcasts or make videos.
It's not so much that people lost interest in writing/reading but now they have more options than before. There are bunch of people on Telegram and Discord despite the fact that those two platforms don't even come close to forum when it comes to possibility of quality conversation and exchange of ideas.

In addition to the fact that more and more information about Bitcoin and the like, there is less interest in going to forums to look for information.
True, back in the day Bitcointalk was probably the only source of Bitcoin info, and later on that expanded to altcoins as well while situation is quite different now. Add on tha the fact that forums are not as popular as they used to be and this is what you get. Despite all this, bitcointalk is still very much alive and kicking so I am not worries about its future, at least not in the next couple of years.

The number of merits issued in Nigerian Local Board is not matching with the quality of posts there. If Theymos can grant the merit application of Upgrade00 and Charles-Tim, it will help circulate merit in the board. Other merit sources can also come to the board, who knows you can like our pigin english and issue merit to deserving posts. Hopefully we can have our locale board one day.
You might wanna consider using Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source until you get another merit source. Not going into quality of posts there, but 0.4 merit/post ratio you had during January is pretty good, ranking you 7th from 19 boards in that chart, ahead many of the big boards. That of course doesn't mean that you don't deserve another merit source, just saying that situation in your board is not bad at all.

It's great when I can bring more of you (merit source) to the Indonesian Local Board to help increase the number of merit distributions on eligible posts each month even though in the end my application for merit source was not accepted.

As i suggested to @uchegod21, you should consider using Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source if you think that some good posts are left without the merit. That topic was a big help to my local board before we got few additional merit sources so it might help you too.
3789  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the world running out of Bitcoin? on: March 01, 2022, 08:35:07 AM
i It took almost 12 years for Bitcoin to sell nearly 19 million coins.
Sell? I guess you meant mine.

If Bitcoin becomes scarcer and then runs out, some investors believe that its price will actually go up.
Well that's logical, as if demand keeps going up while supply is limited of course price will go up.

What's more, Bitcoin is said to never really run out according to its enthusiasts, because there will always be someone willing to sell their Bitcoin, so bitcoin will always exist.
What's even more important is that satoshi is the smallest Bitcoin denomination so 21 million BTC can be divided into  2,100,000,000,000,000 satoshis which should be enough for quite a few years. And who knows, if needed we may get even smaller denominations so no worries about "running out of bitcoin".
3790  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Oraminers.com Review For Scam Website - Be Cautious - SCAM on: March 01, 2022, 06:56:32 AM
Yeah I read the whole topic and evidence that you provided in my opinion its simply not enough to tag him, at least for me and looking at that topic other DT members that were commenting there came to the same conclusion.

If you really think that he is scammer protecting his own scam website by eliminating competition, you should leave him negative feedback.

Could you please help point out where there is a clear connection between him and the said scam site in the linked post you shared. I am trying to connect the dots, but failed.

Yeah same here. All we got there is circumstantial evidence at best but nothing clar that would make me tag that user.
3791  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Mjesečna Analiza za Hrvatsku Lokalnu Zajednicu (Bitcointalk Croatian) on: February 28, 2022, 09:54:02 PM

Lista aktivnih clanova naseg boarda u periodu 1.01-31.01

Nema iznenadenja na vrhu, po ocekivanju. Dok je nama Slackovica nema zime za nas board. Cheesy

@Rikafip I've learnt from what you have said now, I'll do better than this next time.
Cheers buddy, good to hear that you will take my advice into consideration and that you will improve in that regard.

the only factor I'm considering is that the users is a newbie and maybe it has not come in contact with the rules and regulations of the community in order to know what is obtainable by formatting a text, i believe is following the thread in order to notice some lapses if op wishes, what he really needs is our directions as you fish out some tangible points.
Yeah I understand that many are not aware of the proper text formatting when copying someone else's text, hence my advice. From my experience, majority of members that I warned about that actually improved and started doing these things properly so not all is lost.
3793  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Bitcoin Fails ? on: February 28, 2022, 04:56:34 PM
I saw the copy and paste work like op that wants further issues of been tag plagiarism, i can't blame him indecencies that is a fresher, an experience user will do exactly what you portray, reading from the link it's very obvious they was no changes, i may say from my perspective maybe op is afraid of committing paraphrasing. Your observation is ideal and i agree with you.
Well, according to bitcointalk rules this is not plagiarism as long as he shared reference link (that he did), no matter how you format the copied text. Regarding paraphrasing, there is no need for that either, it's ok to verbatim copy someone else's text but as long as youformat it properly and share your own opinion on that matter and both of those things OP failed to do.

And yeah, I do understand that for many people this is the first time that they are active on some forum so they are maybe not aware of the stuff like that.
3794  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Oraminers.com Review For Scam Website - Be Cautious - SCAM on: February 28, 2022, 04:48:03 PM
Nice catch @smooki3! You have eliminated another scammer competitor of yours that sels Goldshell and Jasminer, not to mention that the fake negative reviews from trustpilot have a particular pattern!
To be honest, he didn't eliminate anyone here, these scammers are still there and will continue to operate despite all this warnings that we write here. All he did is that he warned bitcointalk members of that site and that's about it. Unfortunately, not even that is enough to save some members for falling for these kind of scams.

SCAMMERS busting SCAMMERS!!! what wonderful times to live in  Cheesy
If you think that OP is scammer as well and he is just doing this to eliminate the competition, I suggest you to open scam accustaion thread in this board and provide the evidence as from what I can see, he doesn't have any negative feedback yet.
3795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Bitcoin Fails ? on: February 28, 2022, 04:38:03 PM
Its all fine and dandy but what bothers me here is that not a single sentence in that post is yours, you just copy/pasted that guy Max Gagliardi's tweet thread without making it obvious to everyone that all this is verbatim copy. While you covered yourself by sharing the link at the bottom, that's simply not how these things are supposed to be done if you are to follow posting etiquette.

So, if you plan to create similar topics in the future, put all verbatim copy inside quotations and make sure to add something of your own instead just sharing someone else's thoughts without commenting on the issue.

As you can see below, jhonalbert copy/pasted these two sentences word for word. Yet another newbie account that will end up getting banned due sheer stupidity, thinking that these kind of posts will get him merit.

Mate, I'm really happy to see a big increase like this in the Indonesian Local Board because people are starting to care about the quality of posts. I just hope they can maintain and also improve the quality of their posts in the future so that we can actually increase the number of merit distributed every month. It was a good performance that I expected from them, but unfortunately I didn't contribute much to merit last January because I didn't have enough sMerit.
Yeah it's nice to see Indonesian board among most merited ones as you are very active board. I do think that you still have a loot of room for improvement despite this increase as when i started making these overviews almost 2 years ago, you had pretty much similar amount of posts (~1200) and something like 50% more merits shared than you had last month. Then again, I have no idea whether post quality remained the same like it was before.

I guess it is related to forums in general, which have been declining for some time now and there are no signs that activity will pick up any time soon.
Yeah its a general trend among forums (at least the ones I am pat of) so bitcointalk is not exception here.

Maybe a new forum software, better suited to mobile platforms, is in order?
To be honest I don't think that would reverse the trend, but that doesn't mean that it wouldn't help to some degree to slow the decline. I personally don't mind not having mobile version, but from the experience on some other forums, I did notice that people prefer using those.
3798  Other / Meta / Re: freedom of speech is fine, but where is the limit? on: February 28, 2022, 11:28:54 AM
The freedom of expression is vital to our ability to convey opinions, convictions, and beliefs, and to meaningfully participate in democracy. The state may, however, 'limit' the freedom of expression on certain grounds, such as national security, public order, public health, and public morals.
So you couldn't say all these things using your own words but instead you wanted to sound smart and just copy/pasted someone else's word. Punishment for plagiarism is ban, unless you can prove that you are behind the original text, which I doubt.

I have been attacked in various ways and my name has been posted in various groups saying all sort of things well that is by the way, If I have offended anyone through this post I'm very sorry about it, I didn't mean to offend anyone, I'm here to gather knowledge not to have enemies or fight with anybody.
One piece of the advice from someone who has been active on various forums for the last ~20 years: grow thicker skin or you won't have a very good time here, or on any other forum for that matter. That's just how it goes on forums, like on real life; you may say some some things that other people won't like or agree with and they will respond. In the end, that's what forums are all about, exchange the ideas. In the end, you always have ignore option.

Yes, you made a mistake from your account Edith1994 and posted a plagiarism, for which you were banned. I wrote about it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1926895.msg59345597#msg59345597
Yep, its pretty much obvious that he was behind Edith1994 as well. And yet again he is doing the similar mistake of rushing too hard to scoop the merit which got banned him in the first place.

To those of you with no issue with kucoin and trading and withdrawing without KYC... are you US citizen or using it from the US though?
No issues like that whatsoever when it comes to Kucoin (at least not yet) and I am from Europe, Croatia. Regarding Gate, they do ask for KYC so that's not a good option for you then. Another good option might be FTX as its reputable exchange (they are kinds what Binance used to be couple of years ago) but the only problem is low withdrawal limit of only 2000 USD per day.
