I'd check for any loose cable connections - particularly the connections at the PSU.  It is easy to accidentally not push it all the way until it snaps with the AX1200.
Yea I have to agree with you on that. Adding and removing cables to that isn't the easiest task.

Any other suggestions? I just want to cover all my bases before I try swapping hardware between servers to test if things were doa.

"Resting"... never used any screws?
Check if any of those bumps are touching anything they shouldn't...

All cables attached? CPU, graphics, PCI-E cables etc?
I wasn't tired enough to forget to screw down the mobo lol Tongue It's screwed into the bumps. I'm almost positive the wires are attached properly. Honestly though there's only two cords required to get to the bios the 24 pin cord and the one that powers the cpu. Since it can't even reach the bios none of the other cords can really be the main issue.

I hate to ask because it is so simple but still some people tend to forget. Tell me you used standoff's when you installed the motherboard in the case.
The motherboard is elevated but not with the brass ones as I built a custom skeleton case and salvaged the piece the mobo rests on from an old comp.

The mobo is resting on a plate sort of similar to this.
http://www.ronstultz.com/knowledge/images/Assemble%20a%20Desktop/Assemble%20a%20Desktop%20-%20Chassis%20-%20Motherboard%20standoffs%20installed.jpg
It's a plate with only those elevated bumps.

I tried out a new motherboard and psu that got shipped to me yesterday. When everything was set up I tried turning it on and the psu made a single click and the computer didn't turn on.

The mobo is a 890FXA-GD70 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130274) and the psu is a CORSAIR Professional Series Gold AX1200 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139014)

If this helps at all I used the power button on the actual mobo and it does light up blue pre click and post click if pressed. I was doing this at 1 am and had to be at work at 9 in the morning so I was rushing a little and may have forgot to do something simple. I'm just looking for possible solutions so I cut down my trial and error time when I get out of work.
385  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: [pics inside] custom built 8-card rack on: August 04, 2011, 01:27:39 AM
only 6 slots on mobo. How you plan to use 8 cards?
lol it actually has 7 slots: 6 pci-e x16 and 1 pci-e x1 on the very top. i think you were just basing what you said on my pics, which is hard to see that top black pci-e x1 slot. here's the newegg link for specs:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130289
That still doesn't answer what your doing with the 8th card lol Tongue
386  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Miners that pay for electricity should seriously start reconsidering on: August 04, 2011, 01:22:17 AM
so you want me to use a MOBO with 2 PCIx slots?

I'd be more than happy to build you as many systems as you want for similar prices above. Of course, my fee for doing all this is not included in that price, and if you're too lazy to do it yourself, it's not gonna be cheap.
I don't really think he is serious about letting us build rigs for him. If he is though he directed it to me originally and I honestly would take $250 dollars from the $5250 he mentioned because I make theoretical builds anyway on my free time Tongue
387  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Question about overclocking my 5850's on: August 04, 2011, 01:18:15 AM
The memory issue i've noticed across my cards 5770-5830-5870 the higher end cards don't like the lower memory frequencys the 5870 not liking anything below 450 the 5770 allowing speeds below 300. as far as your hard crash i've seen it on all 4 if i push them too far likely your 5850 has less headroom (possibly bad luck) than your 5830 all of my cards have been able to run at 1ghz sofar good luck it seems if nothing else.
Yea all 5 of my 5850's from ncixus crash my comp at some point between 945-975 mhz. It's not too bad though my average speed between the cards is 390 megahash because of my tweaks so its still a great card at $145 I just wasn't able to push them as high as I wanted.
388  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Howto Setup a 5830 rig ? on: August 04, 2011, 01:11:42 AM
Yeah that's the upper limit I run that speed overnight while I'm not using it as it can be a little unstable if I use the PC at 1060 if I back it down to 1050 and lower the aggression to 3 and switch fastloop to true I can use the desktop and watch videos with no problems artifacts or driver recovery's. Every card is different but I would think 1000 to 1040 is achievable with a bump in core voltage and I have been running mine at the upper limit on core voltage since I got this card about 2 weeks ago.
Yea I agree with him its the upper limit but I can get between 1030-1040 before it becomes unstable on stock voltage I got really good 5830's though. I'm kind of curious how high I could push it if I up the voltage but I haven't really tried because I don't plan to use non stock voltages for long term.
389  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: is there any free windows os?? on: August 03, 2011, 08:22:56 PM
Windows 95/98 keys should be cheap nowadays.
gl finding drivers.

No matter how often you try, humor is so often lost on the internet. Just the concept of something free from M$ is a joke.
It's hard to tell sometimes. I've seen people make dumber statements then that and they are not joking. So I just assume they mean what they are talking about.

Just because I have time I'll try to build a high ratio build that cuts all corners with the 5850 @ 145

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138324
48 for extenders
30 for cpu (heat sink not included)
10 for heatsink
6-flash drive
10-ram
580 for 4 5850
90 for psu
total=834
expected megahash=1,600

ratio = 1.91
I guess if you want to add a case add ~$60
ratio=1.79
391  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Miners that pay for electricity should seriously start reconsidering on: August 03, 2011, 08:02:34 PM
I can make rigs that get 1.2 ghz with a better than 1.5 ratio... does that count? Wink  (all new parts too)
Does this come with an 80+ gold PSU? That is one corner that is terrible to cut. If it does, plz share because i have no idea how you plan to do this. Also, MIR shouldn't be deducted from the price.
It's almost guaranteed not to. I'm guessing it would be entirely caseless and one of the cheapest psu's which isn't ideal at all on the large scale.
392  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Miners that pay for electricity should seriously start reconsidering on: August 03, 2011, 07:33:27 PM

You most definitely can get better then a 1.5 ratio but it tends to take a long time to mass produce something like that and you usually have to cut corners like excluding any form of a case.

But seriously.  I will give you $5,250 to make me 5 of these (must be properly configured for 1,500 MH/s each)....that should leave you a very large profit margin.

If you're actually serious pm me and we will try to figure something out.

It's got 4 slots broseph do your homework before you start arguing.

PCI Express 2.0 x16 =2

PCI Express x1=2

396  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: All Miners Should Determine their 'Break Even' BTC Price on: August 03, 2011, 06:13:36 PM
I'll use my 5830 rig:
generates 1320 mhash
thats .703 btc
requires 888 watts
Only costs me 6.7c per kwh
cost of electricty per day:1.43

A btc would have to drop to 2.03 for me to break even.
397  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: When will miners stop mining with the price keep dropping? on: August 03, 2011, 05:57:38 PM
why is the price tanking ?!?! ...is it because all the early adopters have now made their money and
pulled out, leaving the rest of us with an essentially worthless, useless idea for a currency ?! lol
no its because noob are panic selling
+1
398  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Howto Setup a 5830 rig ? on: August 03, 2011, 05:46:27 PM
I run my 5830 at 1060 core 1195mV 386 mem with the modified Phatk kernel from here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25860.0 settings are -k phatk VECTORS BFI_INT FASTLOOP=false AGGRESSION=13 WORKSIZE=256

340.6 Mh/s
I feel like your waisting alot of electricty to achieve around 7 more megahash then me. Any clue how many more watts that requires?
399  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Question about overclocking my 5850's on: August 03, 2011, 05:15:16 PM
any one?
400  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Miners that pay for electricity should seriously start reconsidering on: August 03, 2011, 04:59:57 PM
I should have prefaced with this:  I DON'T WANT SOMEONES USED CRAP.

Show me where I can build a NEW system that gets 1500 MH/s for $1,000.
Am I really going to have to list out links because your too much of a dumb ass to realize 420 dollars for non gpu parts can be easily done....

48 for extenders
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256057

That leaves 78 dollars from the 420 budget....
