3861  Economy / Speculation / Re: Have the fees gone down? on: February 22, 2018, 11:05:17 PM
I just transferred about 1 BTC to a wallet and the fee was something like 20 cents. Is that right? I recall having fees of $25 back in December for the same amount. I'm using Segwit by the way.

You can pretty much send with something like 20 sats/byte right now and still get confirmations.

The number of unconfirmed transactions have gone down dramatically. This has contributed to the decline in fees as well.

Just not that long ago fees were pretty much around 0.002 BTC per transaction, while now it's less than 0.0001 BTC for my transactions from electrum. Pretty amazing if you think about the volatility that involves, from around more than $40 per transaction to under $1.

Fee history can be viewed here, btw: https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/bitcoin-transactionfees.html

3863  Economy / Speculation / Re: what will happen on: February 22, 2018, 07:47:14 AM
I just want to know how much faith do you guys have in bitcoin...

If bitcoin drops bellow $1000, do you think it will still recover someday?

If the sole reason for the dump was that people offload their coins and think that crypto has no future, and making an irrational decision of dumping off more coins because of that and bitcoin has not intrinsically changed, then yeah, I have full belief in bitcoin making a comeback and increasing to much higher levels when people get out of that mindset.

If BTC drops 90% on any given day, there will be a rebound.

Whether a temporary or long term one, we'll not know until it actually happens. But markets will rebound after a huge price tank like that. If you're holding your coins to prepare for a financial collapse, you should be prepared for these events to happen.
3864  Economy / Speculation / Re: How not to lose money after a dump on: February 22, 2018, 07:43:25 AM
How can you have a -350% loss? Doesn't make mathematical sense.

No good holding everything you've got in bitcoin. You've got to have a time to cash out and a time to buy, as a speculator. No speculator ever hangs onto their entire portfolio and not liquidate one single asset.

While I do agree with spreading a portion of your portfolio into cryptos, and hold that for the long term in case SHTF, you can probably be a lot smarter than just holding. It's obvious problems that people aren't experienced with the markets and blindly investing, then panic selling as the markets go down. But holding until you make a profit not always works in practice.
3865  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM ALERT - https://ton.fund/ - Telegram ICO (TON / GRAM) on: February 22, 2018, 07:09:36 AM
This looks pretty real and well done, but the site https://ton.fund/ is SCAM and it is NOT from Telegram!
Obviously a scam because telegram has not announced any partnership with this project, and their entire project is as generic as can be. If you did a simple search of the pictures of the founders, then you can see that all of them are fake.

The "Dr. Nikolai Durov" guy on the team page is actually whatsapp founder Brian Acton. They're not even making an effort to hide this in the slightest way possible. Always check for official endorsement before investing in any existing company ICOs.

Apparently, they've sold 700 BTC worth of tokens already. Hopefully this figure is made up and not that many people have fell for this...
3866  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: POLONIEX deposit still not accredited after 50 days on: February 22, 2018, 06:44:46 AM
Magneto made me remember a pretty good stance that I've taken awhile back and just recently became the case. I will not work with an exchange that forces me to use Tether (or any other currency) if I want to fund my account. I do not believe in Tether, it feels like an extortion attempt or a desperate way to start a coin. I have heard many horror stories about Tether,  from people sending it to addresses that can't accept it, or exchanges not processing it as quickly.

Regardless, my advice would be stay away from Tether, because if you were to fund with USD at least you would have some type of recourse. This leaves you 100% at the mercy of exchanges; Tether as far as I can tell is just a currency made for and by exchanges. Do not fall victim to their predatory manipulation of the market, refuse to abide by their silly rules and go elsewhere.

Well, that problem isn't really tether's. I agree that tether is very shady and I would not use it to store any big sums of fiat wealth, but that's not really the problem here. The problem's on poloniex's side.

Guys, the problem isn't in tether. The problem is POLONIEX.
My transaction was confirmed in a few minute, but poloniex still does not credit me and in two months still does not deign to answer me.
THIS IS SCANDALOUS!

You still haven't answered my question - did you or did you not accidentally deposit to a bitcoin address? Tether deposit addresses on poloniex are going to be different from bitcoin deposit addresses, if you have not realised.

Guys, please help me..

There is nothing we can do to help, unfortuntaely. You have to wait for a response from the support team on poloniex which is extremely slow at responding. That's a well known fact. You'll have to depend on them, since you can't double spend your transaction after it's confirmed.
3867  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ✰ PAXFUL.COM ✰ - peer to peer marketplace to buy/sell bitcoin on: February 21, 2018, 09:16:52 AM
Newbie has to read this. Too many SCAMMERS on Paxful, offering THE VERY BEST RATE for your btc, i.e market +10% or even much higher. They will force you to release bitcoin first, then they never pay. Even if they pay through PayPal, your PP account will got chargebacks from them. AVOID Paxful and Localbitcoins. They're all SCAMMERS.

You always have to do your due dillegence when trading on any exchange. Even if you are protected by escrow in paxful in this case. Just because paxful offers escrow doesn't mean that nobody will try to scam you on there.

You should never release your funds before you actually receive payment, and you should avoid dealing with any reversible methods on paxful. And if someone is offering 10% over the spot price for bitcoin, then it's going to be a scam for sure.

No point blaming paxful/localbitcoins, if you see a scammer report it to them. That's all you can do. They're not the ones scamming you.
3868  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: FortuneJack is stealing my winnings on: February 21, 2018, 08:39:28 AM
I have had an FJ account for 5 months and have deposited, withdrawn, won, and loss without any problems in the past. I deposited the other day and won with my own money and was told I had several accounts and to explained the reason. I live in a dormitory with over 300 people and we all share 3 computers in a computer room which all type of activities are done. I had no problems with playing and getting paid in the past. But now it seems to be a problem getting paid especially when I used no bonus but my own money. They are insisting on even stealing all my deposits.

If you claimed no bonuses or any promotions, then I don't see a reason for holding your funds and saying that you can't withdraw even if you do have multiple accounts. Because they are still in the +ve and you're in the -ve expected value, and they should be happy that you have opened multiple accounts and gambled more because it means further profits for them in the long run.

But if you've opened multiple accounts or have multiple IDs on the same IP/computer, and anyone in your dorm has claimed the bonus, not just you, then it's a different subject.

Still, I think you should at the very least be refunded your deposit, even if that means that your profits are taken away.

It can be the main reason why his account is blocked but how do we know that his story is real about his living in a dormitory with 300 people? I do not mean to accuse him but anyone can say the same thing to defend themselves.
It is clear on FJ's terms, multi accounts is prohibited and FJ reserve the right to block the accounts. I'm sure most casinos will do the same thing in similar case.

That's obviously the question here to ask.

Just me thinking that he should get a refund, doesn't mean that he'll actually get a refund from FJ.

According to FJ's terms and conditions:

Quote
We reserve the right to block or terminate all your betting accounts if you attempt to open more than one account.
FJ will probably act on their terms and conditions that covers the fact that a user cannot have more than 1 account per person/IP. OP is probably in direct violation of this rule and since FJ has that in their terms and conditions, or at least FJ is suspecting that to be the case.
3869  Economy / Exchanges / Re: KYC and identity theft risk on: February 21, 2018, 08:27:20 AM
Hello guys.
I'm very very far from making some kind of cash-out, but i was just wondering... How do you handle the thing of being forced to give your personal informations to exchanges to be able to convert your cryptos in fiat and transfer them on bank?
For how i see it there it's a very high possibility (if not certainty) that exchanges are selling the informations given by their costumers... and anyway there is alway the risk that they get hacked.

Knowing this, why you handled your ID and documents to exchanges? making some money it's enought to compesate the risks for you? do you use some alternative way to cash out your crypto?

For me, giving bank coordinates should be enough to allow people to cash out... The worst that can happen in that way is having your bank account hacked, but in these cases the banks give some warranties and some kind of protection/indemnity...
I don't see the necessity to provide an exchange with photos, ID, bills etc...

What do you think? do you think this system will change in the near future? what alternatives do you have?

AFAIK, exchanges will actually try to bypass verification as far as possible and allowed. Because they know that they'll get a much larger following and user base by doing that instead of requiring strict identification.

The government is who is requiring these documents. Exchanges are only acting on behalf of the gov's interest.

I don't see the need in providing ID to exchanges either, but for one reason or another, the government/exchange wants the exchanges to know who's doing the exchanges before anything can be withdrawn from the exchange. You can avoid this via p2p trading platforms, as others have said such as LBC/paxful.
3870  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Poll] A Dead Cat? on: February 21, 2018, 07:54:20 AM
What do you think?  Are we headed lower and are only seeing a temporary “Dead Cat Bounce” or are we headed higher?

Hard to tell. I haven't seen one single year coming off a huge pump like last year be a good one, and we're currently hanging around the 50-60% mark of the ATH which is what the 2013 pump ended up floating around at after it ended.

I do think that we're probably not going to go below that $6k low any time soon.

Obviously, 2013 and 2017 is different, but usually pumps follow a similar pattern. As I've said before, even if in 2018 there is further increases in price it's definitely not going to be as much as 2017. Also it's important to note that the 2-3 years between halvings have significant less market interest than the halving year or 1 year after that, aka 2012/2013 and 2016/2017.

On the other hand, a lot of other people are saying that BTC will continue to go up this year. If you are a long term holder honestly none of this should concern you a whole lot.
3871  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Coin Market Shops: Discover places that accept cryptocurrency payments on: February 21, 2018, 07:47:49 AM
I like this site. The other directories are all out of date as far as i know, and it's hard to find actual ones that are working. I also like the fact that you're trying to tackling this problem yourself, shows that you have a lot of heart.

Though, I would definitely try to add more sites before releasing it to the public. 21 sites isn't that helpful. Please also add an option to filter sites by country supported, otherwise someone from Canada for example don't want to see irrelevant info from the US.

After a quick browse i saw that you listed bitmainmasters.com, which is a confirmed scam site(https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2451559.0), I think you should filter out all the scammy sites first before entering them into teh database.

GL with your project otherwise.
3872  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2018! Bitcoin pump or dump? on: February 21, 2018, 07:40:11 AM
none of the above because bitcoin is not a pump and dump shitcoin like all these altcoins you see which can be pumped and dumped. if you don't know what "pump and dump" means then read this first: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pump_and_dump or https://www.investopedia.com/terms/p/pumpanddump.asp

I think that he is using the word "pump" as "increasing price", and "dump" as "decreasing price".

Let me get this clear. There is no way that bitcoin will repeat its performance last year. If things were on the same scale as last year, it would essentially mean that bitcoin will rise another 2000% within a year, and that would result in a $200k bitcoin.

Bitcoin isn't some high yield investment program that will give you that kind of returns.

2018 isn't going to see a lot of activity, in my opinion. We'll probably establish $10k as a worst case scenario to fall back on, but other than that, I can't see price move past $20k either. 2018-2020 will be relatively calm, before 2021's pump. Historically, bitcoin has always increased in price 1 year after the halving.
3873  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Cannavest.io Exit Scam on: February 21, 2018, 06:10:57 AM
Did anyone else here fall victim to the Cannavest.io exit scammer? I lost 1 ETH  Angry

I have the WAVES wallet address, the name of the scammer registered through GoDaddy (may be fake), their ETH wallet address. Not sure how to go about getting a subpoena from GoDaddy to obtain more information about them. Who's with me?!

Seems like that they have either deleted or renamed every thread that they've had on this forum with random titles.

Anyways, their site is down and I couldn't find any archived version of it anywhere on archive.is so that's just too bad. I think that the chances of you catching these scammers is extremely small. The legal trouble isn't worth the 1 eth honestly.

There is one post that quoted their bounty OP: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2704952.msg28082098#msg28082098(archived: http://archive.is/nrv3G).

OP and everyone, take this as a lesson. ICOs are risky to invest in. Exit scams are frequent in this field.
3874  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Yobit Account 'Temporarily disabled' for nearly 1 month with no progress on: February 21, 2018, 06:00:04 AM
I can not enter into the account! password they do not fold! ostensibly the function does not work.
said to wait a few days, well, and as a matter of fact, over these days I will not lose much money. That's the attitude to traders.

At least they gave you a response.

When I still used yobit, I had one of these problems once.

Are you sure that everything in your email is case sensitive? What I found was that unlike other exchanges, yobit seems to be case sensitive when it comes to email as well as passwords. No idea why but it has to be capitalized if you signed up as that.

Try it again with that, if not, then unfortunately you'll have to contact support and seek to reset your password.

3876  Economy / Speculation / Re: Btc ATH this week on: February 21, 2018, 01:48:09 AM
I predict $25k
what about you guys?

Highest we'll see this week is probably a 20% increase from the current level, which is around $13k.

$25k is just way too much. In fact I don't even think that we'll get to the top half of $10k in this week or even this month. You have to realise that as good bitcoin is as a currency, it's not some magical scheme that will give you thousands of percent worth of profits each year, guaranteed.

We've only seen a doubling of price in a day when BTC was young and still entire undeveloped and it's easy to manipulate markets with one single buy order of a few hundred bucks. Plus, we're correcting down to the $11k level again at the momente.
3877  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Antminer-buy.com is a scam site on: February 21, 2018, 01:22:40 AM
Antminer-buy.com is a scam
Anything linked to Tizen Hardware is associated with this website also.

They come out looking good, they call you, confirm order. Few days later you get a tracking number that works on a legit tracking website.
Then a week goes by with it sitting in a China and you get this reply when you inquire

“Dear Valued Client,
Greetings from Tizen Hardware!!

This is inform you that your product was hold by custom department , so there would be one time custom clearance fee for 473 USD which you have to pay for the clearance of your product

Based on my experience, if anything is held by the customs department then it's not going to be the sending company telling you to pay for it. The shipping company will contact you by phone and invoice you instead.

If they ask you for any clearance fees they're probably just trying to screw you out of some more money before they ignore all your messages.

All those sites selling miners recently have been scamming a lot of people. None of them have turned out to be legit so far, so it's probably best to avoid these sellers altogether and buy from an official source instead.

I don't know why still people do tend to risk out on buying into those unknown or non popular merchants when it comes to buying miners yet there are main sources which we can able to purchase without any doubts. We wont be sure if they are telling the truth or just making ways or bluffs for you to give or send out more amounts to them. This is why if you don't like to face such hassle into these kind of matter then better to avoid it on all cost.

Exactly. Even ebay would probably be a better choice than buying from these sites. At least you are protected by the eBay escrow system.

Even if you are paying by credit card on these sites it is probable that they will steal your credit card information and probably use it for malicious purposes. There is really no good outcome that could come out of someone buying from one of these resellers.

Either buy from the official source or use escrow for any sort of resell activity. Never send first.
3878  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitcoin finally reached 11k$,your prediction? on: February 20, 2018, 10:30:05 PM
After a long time bitcoin finally reached 11k$ today so what do you think will happen from now on?
Will it stabilize around this value or increase further?
My prediction is that it will reach 12000$ by the end of February.

I think that we'll probably stabilise at the current level for a while.

For the rest of the week, expect mostly sideways movement instead of any particularly big pumps or dumps. Though I can definitely see $12k being hit in the next few days. Once that is hit, we'll consolidate for a while before going for the next pump phase.

I think that markets are going to be a lot more careful in this year compared to the last because of the big crash in Jan, which means that the volatility this year is going to potentially to be lower as well.
3879  Economy / Speculation / Re: Major mistake all traders make on: February 20, 2018, 10:23:28 PM
An active day trader myself (sort of), I often think about common mistakes people make in trading. And it seems that I have traced back most if not all such mistakes to their root cause. In a nutshell, it all comes down to being unable to back out if something goes wrong. For example, you buy a few bitcoins at a December high and expect the price to continue rising, which is kind of obvious. Instead, the price starts crashing down and you find yourself in a situation that you didn't envisage or consider beforehand. So your best option would be to bring things back where they were as fast as possible even if it means some loss.

It is not so much about placing dumb stop-loss orders or other trading techniques aimed at minimizing losses as about your mental disposition or general attitude to immediately get out of what can be loosely called a decision limbo when you basically don't know what to do. In other words, search for the exit where the entrance is and do that fast.

The most common mistake would be panic selling and weak hands, honestly.

If you invest in bitcoin then you are probably going to have to prepare for the long term. Trading bitcoin short term will mess up your entire trading psychology because you'll keep on trying to go for just that little more profits.

If you are trading bitcoin short term, make sure that you have a stop loss level in mind, and a target where you sell your coins. Otherwise, you'll always fall into the hole of selling low and buying high.

You make a fair point. Positions are there to be liquidated, you don't always have to close a position with a profit. You win some, you lose some. But you need to be mentally prepared for anything before you invest.
3880  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Marek134 scammed me for 0.20 btc [HELP] on: February 20, 2018, 09:55:34 PM
Didn't you use escrowmybits? Did you already release the funds?

Unfortunately, this is how it is. If anyone's offering you a cloud mining account for sale, or any other accounts for the matter, there is always a risk of the account being reclaimed by the original owner by social engineering.

That's why you never deal with account sales, unless you can be sure that the seller is fully legit and you're using escrow.

Also i doubt your police department will care about a $2k scam... TBH.
