3961  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: October 27, 2015, 09:05:46 PM
Hi Gliss,

Please stop ignoring the fact that Dash no longer claims there was "No Premine" in their OP.

They took it out because they have conceded their "instamine" was essentially a premine.

If Dash is no longer excusing or defending its former "No Premine" claim with technicalities, why is CoinMarketCap?

You can easily click on the Dash [ANN] thread to verify it no longer claims the coin had "No Premine."

Evan Duffield, the OP, no longer lists "No Premine" among Dash's attributes, and neither should CMC.

Dash has removed the "No Premine" claim from their [ANN] thread.

It's funny because now CoinMarketCap claims Dash isn't premined, although the OP no longer makes such an assertion.

I addressed it 6 months ago, what exactly has changed since then?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=199685.msg11221343#msg11221343

This is exactly what has changed:

Dash has removed the "No Premine" claim from their [ANN] thread.

Please update CMC accordingly.

Some of us like to speak out against cults and other kinds of scams as a mitzvah.

We are commanded to perform such acts of charity by NNT's "If you see fraud and don't say fraud, you are a fraud" maxim.

EG, the people who investigate Scientology are not necessarily motivated by profit or insanity.

The fact you can't imagine any other motives more noble than 'Because Bribes' or 'Because Crazy' says more about you than Adam and other cult-busters.

But I understand that, as a Dash cultist yourself, the need to protect your cloistered worldview by attacking-the-attacker just like the Scientologists are infamous for doing.

iCEBREAKER you're hilarious!

As per my clarifying comments about trolls like you that I've made to the other ones that sadly inhabit this thread, if you believe a scam has been perpetrated then you need to go to the authorities and report it instead of just lamely posting and ranting about it. If you're not willing to report this 'scam' then you have not a leg to stand on.

Our responses to you have got nothing to do with "attack the attacker". You're here in this thread claiming that Dash is a scam and Evan Duffield is a scammer. If you have even the tiniest shred of legitimacy, you'll bring this 'scam' to the attention of the appropriate authorities (you know those ones you've threatened about so many times before) and have Dash investigated.

But something tells me that (given what we know of who you are and what you've been involved in) hell would likely have to freeze over before you'd take any action like that.

He knows if he did that, they'd laugh in his face and tell Evan to sue him for slander and defamation of character.

Because I have not lost money due to the Dash scam, I may not have perfect "standing" to accuse them in the legal sense.

But I will still say fraud when I see Dash, because it is a fraud.

Assuming Dash is not a protected honeypot, the authorities will be coming in due time.

I can't wait for some cranky old IRS Tax Court judge to get to the bottom of the fishy, untransparent nexus of Evan Duffield+Instamine $$$+Darkcoin Foundation+Dash Project.
3963  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WoW - Roger Ver Hosting Largest Bitcoin AMA Ever at bitcoin.com on: October 27, 2015, 07:33:04 AM
I'm in favor of Bitcoin scaling.

So say we all.

Mr. BTC Jesus, why are you so enthusiastically willing to sacrifice BTC's decentralization/survivability for a chance at non-orthogonal scaling?

Did you cut a deal with the feds?  Something like 'Support XT, and we'll keep you out of Gitmo' perhaps?  (Where is your secret warrant/national security letter canary?)

Or do you simply disagree with with my (and Sztorc's) definition of decentralization, wherein it is equated to the cost of running a full (access|verify|amplify) node?

If you do, please explain why.

Fredo, you broke my heart.  You broke my heart...

3964  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [VIA] ★ Viacoin ★ ~ the future of digital currency ~ ★ on: October 27, 2015, 07:17:40 AM
Is Via still alive? This had so much promise back in the day  Undecided

dev took the 900 btc ico. never was alive.

How was a coin that supposedly "never was alive" able to be the first to deploy CLTV?

VIA and XCH are a solid platform.  We've built it, and just have to wait for the world to catch up.  Same story as Bitcoin in 2010.

I'd love to have 30 minutes and a beer to explain to Pat Byrne (the Overstock and T0 guy) what VIA has accomplished and why it matters.
3965  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Poll result: NXT is a proper cryptocurrency on: October 27, 2015, 07:08:44 AM
The platforms of choice this year are ETH, rootstock.io, Bitshares, and others.

You seem very upset about NXT being made obsolete by ETH, rootstock.io, Bitshares, and others.

Why is that?

Is it because you invested more than you can afford to lose in NXT and its shitty derivative scam-assets?

I recommend you sell now, while there is still an "impressive" 50 BTC in bids at Poloniex.

If you do not, I will be here to remind you what a foolish course of action getting married to your NXT bag was.

The MODs don't care about this thread
They delete and BAN who they want when they want
They don't follow their own rules

This thread is about Dash, the massively premined and instamined HYIP scamcoin featuring "snakeoil" and "bad crypto."

Please fork off to DashTalk or take your Meta concerns to the appropriate Meta sub, just spare us your whining.
3967  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 27, 2015, 05:53:58 AM
Regarding the implementation and timeline of Monero Confidential Transactions (CT), I spotted the following Q&A on r/monero:

Quote from: Q
this will cause a moonshot eventually. I hope it does not take years to implement
&
Quote from: A(Shen)
I don't think it will be that long -I have like one bit of unrelated research I need to finish, which hopefully is almost done, and then I should have a couple of free days to spend on it.

It is nice to see Shen putting so much time into CT and his whitepaper and test implementations in mininero.

Definitely will be worth adding once it is fully tested by many on testnet or whatever.

I had no idea this could be done so quickly. Pleasant surprise!

Set your expectations further out in time as I personally think it may take some time for CT to be tested and incorporated via hard fork into monero.

My guess is 1 year from now at least.

Yes, the practical constraint for Monero isn't how fast Shen can push the CT envelope, but rather how fast the world's less spry cryptographers can effectively peer review his innovations.

After the ScalingBitcoin stuff is over, it's time for #BTCprivacy workshops.

Can't wait to see Adam, SN, mixles, and Gmax on the same discussion panel.  My brain is not ready!   Embarrassed

@jthor: There's not much else you can do, I guess just try it a few more times until it works.

@OrientA: The osx builds were created by some guys on the irc channel a while back, I don't have the tools or knowledge to create osx binaries myself. Maybe if someone has a copy of the osx files they could reupload them and post a link in this thread.

How about a bounty?

A crowd-funding mechanism for crowd-sourced priorities like https://forum.getmonero.org/8/funding-required may be helpful.
3969  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Dash a better alternative to Bitcoin? on: October 27, 2015, 03:36:49 AM
I read this thread and this is my question:
What if evan duffield unexpectedly dies tomorrow morning?

Nothing so dramatic as sudden death is necessary to bring Dash 'Bus Factor = 1' problem to the fore.

Less exiting prosaic and common events are more likely to have the same effect.

EG, what if Evan's wife tells him to choose between her or or Dash, because she doesn't wish to be married to, nor have children fathered by, a notorious scam artist?  Or he could just get sick of the whole thing and start a new life herding goats.  Or he could go to jail for charity fraud+tax evasion+unregistered securities.

There is also the otoh factor.  If Dash's sugar daddy/life support system decides to move on to other investments, Dash's goose is cooked.

At any time, if Evan or otho decide to pull a Satoshi and disappear, Dash becomes abandonware.

I'm not sure about the math, but do know being utterly dependent on two individuals continuing their present course gives Dash a Bus Factor lower than 1.  It's probably 1/2 or 1/4.  Either way, that's not acceptable resiliency for a project with the hubristic goal of replacing cash and plastic.

Pretentious fantasies of displacing BTC+Visa+fiat notwithstanding, Dash is just one man's hobby project, complete with homespun "bad crypto" and monetized by a very tiny group of insiders.
3970  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Dash is not a scam, but a scheme on: October 27, 2015, 03:17:53 AM
Who got the millions of Dash at the early stages? No one knows.

It may be true that no one knows but what we do know is that everything happening so quickly gives enormous structural advantage to those who had highly topical inside information.

As you say, we can't really see the outcome, but we can see the structure, so that's the only way to judge. The salient question is not was it cheated in a massive way, but rather, could it have been cheated in a massive way and in the case of Dash the answer is a resounding yes.

There is always inside information of at various times of course, but slowing things down to happen over months, years, or decades means the effect of being in the right place at the right time, either accidentally or more importantly by design, is vastly reduced.

People keep making the correct point that absolute speed of distribution matters, but Dash supporters just don't want to get it. Take Litecoin for example. It had a small instamine because of the fixed-interval difficulty adjustment algorithm that was ubiquitous at the time. but since Litecoin distributes its supply relatively slowly, over years to decades, not hours or days, the effect of that was negligible.

It doesn't even matter (much) whether LTC's instamine was rigged intentionally and grabbed by insiders or an accident and split among many lucky miners, because the relative amount is small, and that is an objective structural fact. As with Dash, distributional outcomes and intentions are not fully knowable, but the resilience and soundness (in the case of Litecoin) or the fragility and unsoundness (in the case of Dash) of the structures are fully knowable and fully known.

Quote
And these people could not have foreseen that Xcoin(which Dash was built upon) was going to get any value at all.

That is true for most people. But someone who knew that it had actual development plans would have a far, far better chance to conclude this than people operating in the dark (no pun intended). The only people with this enormous advantage were Evan and people working with Evan.

Is "Dash Project" the same as The Darkcoin Foundation?  Or is it the for-profit start-up for which you were recruiting the month before launching (what's now called) Dash?

Is it using funding from the instamine?

Quote
Core Team Budget

In September and October we received the core-team budget, which was 1176 DASH each month. This was then paid out in two separate payments for the September and October core-team budget. September’s payments were miscalculated, so we paid out the rest of the remaining September budget in October.

The core team compensation is meant purely as a token of appreciation for the work being done within the project, not as a means to work purely on Dash. In the future we expect this to eventually change as the project matures and our budget is enough to support those maintaining the project.

There’s two types of classes of membership within the core team presently, those that are paid a fixed fee, which is generally for writing, translating or community outreach roles. The second type of role is for software development, marketing, administration and automation.

Are these people considered by "Dash Project" to be employees or contractors or interns or paid volunteers or what?

How should they report the income on their taxes?  Write it off as charity?
3973  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 26, 2015, 06:35:21 PM
This gives us a fun and unique structure where, one monero = one million sub-units.  Each of those sub-units = one million subsub-units.  Whatever is eventually settled on should take advantage of this unique and cool fact.  If neros are the "pennies" of the Monero world, it's neat and reassuring they too can be broken down into millionths when the time comes.

The XMR unit equivalent to a satoshi is a tacoshi.

As for the smallest sub-unit of those, I like the term subtoshi.

I think a drip feed would've worked better. That's AMA overload in anyone's books. There might be a bit of thumb twiddling from the people in the list.

Please note the goatee indicates that is Evil Gavin, from a dystopic parallel universe where Bitcoin is called Panopticoin and used to surveil anything anyone does.  Most of that universe's raw materials, electricity, and bandwidth are used maintaining and upgrading the huge server farms and bandwidth necessary to support 100TB blocks, which monitor every coffee and bus ticket ever purchased, forever.

Restart it...

You missed that boat. Get over it.

2 years after that, Dash is more alive than ever. Think about that.

Anyone who took Evan at his word and believed he would wait to (instead of ninja-ambush) launch the insta-mine "missed that boat."

If you really want Dash to succeed or fail based on technical merit instead of instamine shame, you'd support a relaunch.

Not sure what you mean by "more alive than ever."

There is still no (publicly available) optimized miner.  Small wonder >50% of the hashrate is at one pool, given that fact.

vertoe and that other dev are long gone, and never coming back.

The goal of implementing ring signatures is dead, buried, and forgotten.  Ditto for masternode blinding and I2P.

The price, after a brief spike of rebrand hype, has been falling ever since the day Darkcoin officially became Dash.

It's a classic pump and dump.  Anyone not brainwashed by the cult can see it.

Here, I'll draw a picture to help deprogram you.

3978  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW, Darksend and InstantX on: October 26, 2015, 05:22:30 PM
the foundation is playing a different role these days, as we switched to the voting/budget system for governance and funding and away from a foundation/donation model like other projects.

The foundation just represents us for some things where a legal entity is required, as you can't operate as a community for many things in the real world. So I would say the foundation role at this point is more on the legal representation side and not at all on project management

OK, so who (or what entity) was the beneficiary of the instamine and used/will use the proceeds to fund development?

Evan, THE DARKCOIN FOUNDATION, Hawk Financial Group, or....?

You guys never stick to and follow through on any previously announced plans.  Even the foundation has been relaunched/rebranded!

It's just a never-ending cascade of baits and switches, keeping the bagholder hopes up that if they just buy a little more, the moon rocket will take off.

Why not focus on one thing, and do it better than everyone?  Given the severely botched launch, Duffield is no software da Vinci polymath!

Why keep hopping from goal to goal, does this project not have a core competency on which to concentrate?

Perhaps marketing shitcoin-based HYIP scams (with constantly receding goalposts to string along credulous noobs) is Dash's core competency.
3979  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SCAM Darkcoin instamine 2 millions DRKs (50% of darkcoin in circulation) on: October 26, 2015, 04:38:37 PM
While evan is going to move away from the masternode model (supposedly).

Is there any evidence of this?  I've never heard anything about it.

He said he is going to move the anonymization on to the protocol level so mixing at the masternode level is not needed anymore. Masternodes will however do the work of quorums i.e. instant transactions (which will be on by default iirc) and decentralized API.

When and where did he say this?

Here, let me Search Function that for you.

Ring signatures are going to be implemented in V2. I will begin development immediately after I opensource V1.

18 months later, that promise remains broken.

Just like I2P, masternode blinding, etc.

And people think this goofy crypto-Carl can succeed where ETH failed.   Roll Eyes
3980  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: October 26, 2015, 04:32:52 PM
I believe that the reason that Dash isn't considered premined is because numerous people were able to mine from launch.

I expect that the **premine tag was removed because there is no evidence, anecdotal or otherwise, that mining was restricted in any way.

If your belief and expectation are correct, why did the Dash [ANN] OP remove the "No Premine" claim?

And shouldn't CMC transparently convey what the coin's [ANN] claims and doesn't claim?

Don't you think it's odd that the Dash [ANN] deleted the "No Premine" claim, but CMC effectively defends/hides that omission by not reflecting its present state?

Ok now it insta crashes when I type "setgenerate true".

Time to go to bed and try again next week?

Yeah, let's do that. I obviously need to do some more testing. Thanks everyone!

Best thing to do I guess. Please, confirm you won't be launching after some minutes/hours even if you fix it, and the sooner would be tomorrow, thanks.

Definitely not. I'll also follow up with this post when I do set a time.

"Numerous people" were told by Evan the launch was being postponed (and based on that went to bed feeling safe from missing out).

wut.. no premine but you have 5k to throw?  Huh

If Evan didn't pre-mine Dash, how did he have at least 5k coins to spend THE SAME DAY IT LAUNCHED?
