41  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [6600Th] Eligius: 0% Fee BTC, 105% PPS NMC, No registration, CPPSRB (New Thread) on: July 24, 2014, 04:16:14 PM
Ok, I may have answered a lot of questions on this forum, but I have one now.

It has been often said on this forum that because of the orphaned block, the pool payout to miners converges to about 97% PPS, instead of 100%.

Therefore, if blocks were -never- orphaned, the payout would converge to 100% PPS. However, it is my understanding that when a block is orphaned, the pool (and the Bitcoin Network) act as if that block had never existed.

Therefore, I do not see how it makes a difference to the payout value that some block are orphaned, since acting as if it had never existed, is the same as if no block was ever orphaned, no?

This pool is a PPS variation so it rewards (block reward / estimated # of shares per block) to every share, the estimated # of shares block, depends on the pool dificulty and the network difficulty but it does not takes into account the orphans.
So when a block found by the pool is orphaned the rewards of that block and the next one, should be the half of a normal block to avoid that 1-2% of global bad luck/shelved shares (in the case of double orphan it should be 1/3, etc.)

Anyway global variance seems to affect a lot more than the orphans, since April my account have been at least twice at 100% of rewarded shares even with the block withholding issue we had a couple of months ago and I am right now at 98.8% with this week bad luck.

RoadStress, Jimmothy et al, please refrain from discussing your issues in this post, this post is SP and their products, you can use PMs as much as you want or create your own post.
It is absurd that the last 3 or 4 pages are just quotes of quotes and attacks between you.

We are all excited about the new SP30 so let SP do their work and we will see very soon how this story ends.

If we are to interpret the SN, it appears the unit was #5 potentially.

Is anyone else having connectivity issues or is a problem in my DC?

So how do the tradeblock and bitcoinwisdom calculators differ  ?

Tradeblock as most calculators uses a diff increase per month, instead bitcoinwisdom uses a more realistic simulation where you can set the diff increase per diff jump and even adjust time between jumps. For example this month we had a 25% jump and probably will have a 5% diff jump, that means a 31.25% monthly diff jump.
Obviously is a lot more precise to calculate both jumps that only one even if the monthly jump is the same a 31% jump at the start of the month is a lot worse than a 25% + 5% jumps that is worse than a 5% + 25% jumps.

So to get more realistic estimation use bitcoinwisdom or any calculator that calculates every single step instead of monthly jumps.

As a side note I really don't see the point to estimate a diff jump decrease over time as time has proven many times it will not stabilize unless Mining chip designers stop making new ones with improved efficiency.

First batch was March+July then there was an April+July (I think both at 15K, at least April+July)
I am not sure if there were farmer choice left when the 10% discount started if so it was only for the latest unit of the batch.

July batch has been told to be a small batch probably around 50-100 and with the info provided by SP it will ship the last week of July.
August batch should come after that problably shipping by the 2nd week of August and due to the numbers I presume that it will be continously shipping until the last week of august depending on your position on the queue (april+august, may+august, farmer's choice, singles and group buy all mixed).

Will there be a July sp30 batch?

Yup it was sold mostly as bundles with April SP10 for 15.000 .

But guy already told, that they will ship on last week of july.

Don't think so. AFAIK the transfer of the complete URL is already encrypted.

Now that I think about it, only the host name part of the URL would be visible to an eavesdropper on a network.

https://eligius.st/~wizkid057/newstats/userstats.php/1zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

So my bad on that one :-/.

Standard SSL ciphers all the communication in a way that the url is only known after the handshake is done and the server certificate is provided, this indeed is a problem for sites as it forces to have only site per IP.
Currently most browsers support an protocol extension to provide with the url in clear text but it is on the user side so you can disable it if you wish.

So no, SSL ciphers all the stream, not even the hostname is known for an eavesdropper, only the IP and port is known.

Looking to understand the "Shares Rewarded" %. Mine is at around 92% does that mean that only 92% of the shares submitted will get rewarded? Sounds like I would have low efficiency.

Thanks.

That's the % of shares that has been rewarded, with CPPSRB only 25BTC+fee worth of shares are rewarded every block, so on bad luck blocks some shares are not rewarded but on good luck rounds the most recent unrewarded shares are rewarded until 25BTC+fee is rewarded.

You can see a more in depth explanation on the link "Shares Rewarded" in the stats which links to:

To whom we should write for hosting issues?

I am probably still waiting for a configuration change since yesterday eligius downtime.

Don't you use a failover pool?

No, I didn't have one configured, I have one SP10 from the April batch and as hosting was temporal, we were only asked for an address for eligius, and I thought that in case of need I will be asked for another pool credentials due to monitoring. The problem is that nor I was notified (it seems I was out of the mailing list) nor I got the change request done in a timely manner (I must admit that I wrote to 3 SP personal directions instead of support as I didn't knew about that).

But seems that SP is in charge, I was added to the mailing list and will be compensated (still unsure how) so I can not complaint.

Due to Holiday in Israel today, we'll handle support@ requests slower.
In case of hosting issues (Eligius down time), we'll compensate.

Guy

Thank you, good news are always appreciated.

My SP10 still cant connect to eligius after reboot.

it says it's Dead
Sometimes it needs some time after startup, around 3 minutes.

If it doesn´t work then, try a different pool in the meantime.

LukeJr has told on eligius thread that the DB has gone mad and that he has shut off the public interfaces untill Wizkid7 comes to help, so yes Eligius is down even if the stats page still shows numbers.

Looks like it's back up...
It's not. You shouldn't even be able to connect, since I killed all the public-facing servers until wizkid057 can fix them.

Hope they get it fixed soon.

It's working again.

Please, could you guys point me to any feedback about people's experiences with hosting their miners in Spond's datacentre?

Thanks

I have one hosted since April 10th and I am very happy with SP.
They still need to finish the details of the hosting conditions as they are not posted anywhere but so far they are responsive and they offered compensation for a couple downtimes (one planned and another unplanned) we have had so far.

the queue will only shrink due to payment limit shenanigans or manual payouts.
Or transaction fees.

Umm this is a official confirmation that the fees are not awarded to shares but used to pay and thus reduce the overall pending balances?

Since yesterday the qeue has gone up and down so probably it is stable at 190-200BTC with fees reducing the queue a little bit over time (it varies from block to block, but the average is around 0,10BTC per block)
