41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] AEON 2nd gen cryptonote, anon, mobile-friendly, scalable, pruning on: February 04, 2017, 09:42:41 PM
I've ported my offline address generator to Aeon:
https://github.com/moneromooo-monero/monero-wallet-generator/tree/aeon

It's not yet on the master branch, because it's not well tested yet, so make sure you test you can recover the wallet with simplewallet before sending anything to it, just in case. Reports welcome, and I'll merge it to master if nobody reports problems Smiley

As usual, don't forget to verify the GPG signature, with my public key being in the Monero tree. See the second part of the wallet generator page for instructions.

I did not get any reports, so I assume either it all works fine, or nobody tried it Smiley

I've fixed a last problem with custom prefixes, which would refuse to accept an Aeon prefix, and I've pushed to master:

https://github.com/moneromooo-monero/monero-wallet-generator/tree/master

Don't forget to download the *raw* version of the page if you're going to check the GPG signature.

Enjoy.

Not tried it yet, but I'll be using it for sure. Thanks for putting in some time to make it.

Any news about window wallet?

Windows wallet was available at launch. Check the original post for the link.

Anything new here? BXC has some decent volume on Cryptopia over the last 24 hours

Can someone send me an invitation to the community slack plz?) contact me via PM for e-mail)

I don't think there is one. Folks hang in Freenode IRC: #monero  •  #monero-dev  •  #monero-otc  •  #monero-markets  •  #monero-pools  •  QQ Group: 272729907

fill out the claim form in the PRE-ANN. Only need the private key to sign the address

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it is your new UBQ address that you sign it with, not the private key.

Just want to clear that up so nobody makes a mistake with it.

Cross-posting from reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Aeon/comments/5qconr/could_aeon_be_positioned_as_a_better_bitcoin/

Quote from: Johnny Mnemonic
I've been catching up lately on all things AEON, and was reading about the decision to continue to allow mixin 0 transactions on the network. It got me thinking... what if all AEON transactions were mixin 0? Sure, losing ring signatures sacrifices unlinkability, but think about what you get in return:

    Smaller transactions than Bitcoin
Better pruning (than XMR) thanks to not having to store tx hashes and key images
Stealth addresses would still be used, so better "default" privacy than Bitcoin
The rest of the Monero spoils sans ring sigs (dynamic block size, fair PoW, miner subsidy, Ed25519)

The result is basically a more private, scalable, better version of Bitcoin. Maybe this is more appropriate as its own fork, but I figured XMR is already the "privacy priority" powerhouse of crypto. Why not position AEON as an ultra lightweight Bitcoin killer?

It's an interesting idea, but does Bitcoin not have (or will have sometime) stealth addresses? If it does one day, then AEON wouldn't have much of an advantage over Bitcoin. Scalability, yes, but I'm sure Bitcoin will solve that too.

I think you can still register before 28th and after that too.

Cool, thanks, I'll continue with the process then.

I just saw the market removed from Bittrex and https://chainz.cryptoid.info/jbs/ looks stuck, so assumed the worst

Oops! Is it too late to register my UBQ and JBS addresses using the off-exchange method?  Roll Eyes

whoa, people getting mad over something as simple as how to decompress a file?  Roll Eyes

Nah just people compressing a file as a rar archive and changing the extension to .zip making it impossible to decompress without knowing the file format. hell just today I downloaded a file with a .zip extension, wouldn't unzip, universal extractor wouldn't even work, changed it to .rar, still no luck, didn't work as .tar either, took me over 90 attempts to figure out it was .tgz and the dev changed it to .zip to be a dick. Smiley it was a blockchain file. Look if ya have to change the file extension to get your host to accept it, atleast say something in the ann like "Yo, my file host only allows .zip files so you have to change the extension to .tgz or whatever to unzip it" it only takes a second, and it's the polite thing to do. it avoids annoying people.

man.. Winrar should be standard on every Windows computer.
Install it, and i'll bet you never will see that problem again

I have winrar, winzip, universal extractor, file roller, windows native zip. and none of them work if you change the file extension on the file lol. the file still has to have the correct file extension, for instance file.tar.gz can't be renamed to file.zip it has to be correct.

Just a guess here, but maybe having so many utilities has caused the issue on your computer. Maybe they have all tried to associate themselves with the zip and rar file extensions.

I downloaded the vergecurrency.com/downloads/verge-qt-win.zip file just now and can decompress it with both Winrar and the Windows native tool, no problems, no renaming the file, nothing.

Hopefully someone can help.  I started mining Monero (bitMonero) near the beginning. There were so many scammy companies that I got mixed up in I just stopped and gave up.  Well recently I heard Bitcoin was up again so I began checking my old hard drives for wallets.

I found my old Bitmonero wallet with 12 coins. I think the wallet was 0.8.8.1  Not much I know.  I guess my question is can I salvaged these old coins?  What do I need to do if I can?  Thanks for any info!!!

Yes, if you know the password to the wallet, and you have both the wallet file and the wallet.keys file, then you should be able to just open it up in the latest version of monero-wallet-cli I think.

Snook, you maybe know this already, but after you have access to your coins it would be worth creating a new wallet and moving the coins there instead. This way you have the benefit of seed words for future restoration if needed, as the new wallet will be deterministic.

development update

Sounds good, but I have a question. If I were to give someone my private alias so that they can send me IOC, will that person be able to see (via blockchain) all IOC coming in and out of the alias' address?

The market xdn/xmr is still live and trading on Poloniex https://poloniex.com/exchange#xmr_xdn

What the heck?
(There is a spike in price to ~0.007 XMR)
WTF  Huh My investment (partial) could be 29000 XMR  Shocked Huh

Hmm... There's a few zero's missing mozsi's quoted price. Maybe 29 XMR? Although, maybe not even that, since it's not a liquid market.

WTF. Why do I see different numbers?

Probably best to forget about CZ and merging anything from Louisd'or.

Louisd'or was never launched, despite promises late 2015 and early 2016. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=887482.120

Can anyone produce evidence that Louisd'or is/was ever more than just a bitcointalk thread?!

selling monero.org.uk for just 500 monero

selling xmr.org.uk for 550 monero

Are there people really interested in .uk domains??
I mean in general, I think just .org or .com is always more than enough, the .co.uk it's just useless plus with Brexit within a couple of years maybe, just maybe, UK will no longer exists...

UK is United Kingdom and will always exist as long as the Earth does lol. Are the countries that make up the UK going to no longer exist? (England, Scotland, etc)

Scotland had a referendum to leave the UK and will likely have another. It is possible there could be no more UK one day, if other countires wish to leave also.

When I check the SHA256 hash of the releases I download from github, I'm worried that both the download link and the published hash could have been compromised and I'd never know... until my coins are gone that is!

Are/should the hashes be published in the Monero blockchain, since it's immutable? Maybe I'm being overly paranoid  Roll Eyes

Get the Monero tree. Import fluffypony's GPG public key from there (94B7 38DD 3501 32F5 ACBE  EA1D 5543 2DF3 1CCD 4FCD). Check the signature on the hashes file matches that public key. From then on, you don't need to redo the key import, unless fluffypony changes his key.

See https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/315/how-can-someone-verify-that-the-source-downloaded-from-github-is-genuine/316#316 for a more thorough way of ensuring you always get a non MITM'd git tree too.

Thanks, I'll have a read
