Ethereum is a technical marvel and thanks to ETH many people don't need to worry about their future now. I participate in a couple of ICO's that use Ethereum Network (ECR20 Tokens) and I can't say right now how good my choices are (too early) but it looks like in 2 years time I may be able to buy a flat in the UK from crypto. I am investing now 5 months after selling my coins back in December 2015 (too early for 2BTC), and with the regular job, 5 years saving will not make enough to buy your own place.
I don't have Ethereum - it's expensive to have amount that will skyrocket your portfolio but I don't know how my Blockoflio will look without ETH projects.

IOTA is good for a long-term investment. There are few projects that use IOTA tangle technology like Oyster Pearl - that I invested for long term.
Look on Ripple, no matter how bad it is (centralised, controlled) there is a group of investors that will buy because is cheap and high is on CMC - right now 2nd position. I don't have XRP and never will but it's a shame is second.

 

There is a lot of ICO's that's true. One way to filter them is to check ICO reviews by Ian Ballina on YouTube - he is an ex. IBM employee and he is really good at choosing good projects. Enigma Catalyst, Kyber Network, Red Pulse, PowerLedger just to name a few that score hight and market price reflecting his choice perfectly.

Another way is to pick up couple ICO's you  like, check their road map and wait until they get to exchange, after a while price will stabilise and in many cases will be a bargain to buy, put it that way, once Tokes are released market will verify how good the ICO really is and you can still buy for a good value price.
A recent project with a lot of hype that just hit exchanges is uTrust - payment system (500 million Tokens) like Monetha (440 million Tokens) I am waiting for a crash now ready to buy.

If there is nothing right now you are interested, just wait.
 

My portfolio is organised for Long-term investment. Does not follow general rules exact point by point, I think risk level is High/V. High
but I fell very well with that. I invested what I can lose and I am fine with that, 20 Tokens in portfolio.

I list few main just to justify my choice by the amount I have:
1. PRL (way above 10.000)
2. MTH (<10.000)
3. VEE/SNC (<10.000)
4. SONM/FLIXX/ENJ/QSP (<5.000)
5. COB/VIB/ENG  (<3000)

I don't invest short term - it requires daily more attention and time to follow price and buy/sell orders for profit. I have 3 coins in past, If I keep them and not sell in 2015 today will be more than 30BTC that why I am long-term and I am more patient now.

Ripple XRP is listed high on Coinmarketcap for a long time. It's centralised, we all know that have pros and cons but it definitely proved to have a good team and constantly improving the project. XRP is in Top 10 CM for a long time, personally, I think this is the main reason people investing in it, its stable and the price is increasing, the team doing a great job and it reflects 3rd place on CMC. Ripple is very recognisable as a kind of crypto "brand"

CryptoKitties had a big impact on Ethereum Network, no doubt about that. I remember I could not complete single transaction without increase gas price from 4 > 21 > 30 > 40 > 45 Gwei! Kitties developers are fully aware of that because I was one of many users that took flustration to media and leave negative comments on their Facebook Page. It looks like now Ethereum Network is back to normal and working for me like a charm - Etherdela exchange is now fast and reliable with 1 Gwei. 
This is a lesson for all of us that Blochain is not created for games, at least not in that form like CryptoKitties.

If I was you I will stay away from VERGE XVG for a while, this coin had mass hype and was blasted all around places with "buy" but right now price is dropping. Better buy on DIP or when crash and start increasing value again. Make sure to do home work and find out more information about project, I read few things but is not on my investing list so I won't say anything I am not sure.

I am with Oyster Pearl from the very early stage, super happy to be a part of the PRL community. Oyster Protocol once finished will be a brilliant example of a good idea, hard work and perfect execution from DEV team. I am sure once is completed DEV's will start upgrading with extra features - no doubt about that. PRL indeed has a bright future. Bruno Block is a genius!

I do a lot of research before deciding about buying new Tokens. My portfolio is already loaded with new projects so I don't need to search for more. Advisable is to have 6-8 coins, easy to manage (news, general updates, milestones and follow on Telegram) I printed road map for the 2018 year for all my 14 ICO's in excel that helps me quickly find out what happened when. It took a little of research but is well worth it - now I can quickly check and anticipate price changes.

Coins that will be very profitable in 2018 are:

3. Monetha [MTH] - Payment system taking on PayPal and competing with uTrust Q1 Platform launch
4. SONM [SNM] - Super Computer Network - Q3 Platform launch
5. BLOCKv [VEE] - Virtual item, interface layer fro Blockchain, CryptoKitties is an example how much can be worth virtual items on Blockchain when executed properly.

Congratulations guys for making this radical step. I have HitBTC account and use this exchange from time to time, but only small amounts (less than 200$) I got verified with Cobinhood exchange, it took me 48h to complete Level. 1 verification process (Level 2 is 5 days and not complete). KuCoin exchange doesn't have verification as far as I am aware and I didn't have any problems with withdrawing my crypto, but I never leave any coins on the exchange, just buy/sell and withdraw after that.
I will watch this thread closely, I don't want in future to fall into that trap with withdrawing process.

I can only post this: in 2015 I sold NAV for 2BTC today is approx 30 BTC but it does not answer to your question.
I am on +1400% profit, but still have my Tokens, PRL is releasing protocol next year so sell now it will be too early like with NAV.

Finally, Monetha starts getting the attention it deserves for a long time. I am now on the "green" and making a small profit now from 1000$ loss and this is what experience and patience in crypto pay off. I've been told many times to sell at loss my MTH Tokens and move on to next project that will be profitable and will help cover my loss, I decided to HOLD and wait because the team is competent and always deliver their promise. I know all of us want a bigger exchange, but now when I am with one more amazing project Oyster Pearl [PRL] I can see why it's not that easy as it sounds.

My FAV Tokens for 2018 :

1. PRL - small total token supply - exceptionally good DEV team - transparent on Telegram
2. MTH - good marketing - payment system that will compete with PayPal
3. SNM - sleeping giant that will take on Golem once platform  launched in August 2018
4. BLOCKv - VEE - Interface layer to blockchain - virtual items may boom in 2018 like Crypto Kitties
5. VIB - small token supply, good team, project targetting music industry

Viberate is a good project, good team and small total token supply. I follow this ICO since was released and it's a legit project nothing to worry about. Price from 0.12 to 0.45
Recently there was price increased related to a video posted on YouTube showing Viberate company new offices.

I agree Enigma have a huge potential, I did purchase few hundreds for 0.5$, I am shocked how quickly ENG pass 1$ mark and going for 5$ now. Enigma Total Supply is 150 MIL vs Oyster Pearl PRL 108 MIL, I just hope Oyster Protocol will break 1$ Bubble even quicker, still highly undervalued at the current price only $0.59! Both are sharing similarities they both are protocols and have low Total Supply. 

Cryptocurrencies crash from time to time, it's called price correction and it's the best what can happen if you see your FAV crypto price has increased but you didn't have time to buy more or missed that opportunity and still want to accumulate more coins/tokens. Best gift for Christmas time you could have was that crash! - SALE with 30% discount and that price correction was ideally at Christmas time, amazing.

I am not that really sure if following his predictions is a right choice. Tell me if I am wrong, but what if he decides to pick a Coin/Token that has good potential (theoretically) and buy before at low price few millions before Tweet, then announce it officially and start selling slowly to basically all Twitter users around the world that are ready to buy "in hope" it will rise and stay for at least enough time so everybody can sell with profit.

I like John McAfee, but after he picked ReddCoin, he lost my trust. It's an old project - 2014 and I am shocked he chose this one and not something newer and better. Smells fishy to me.

I've learned a hard way about patience in the crypto world. I had 180K NAV and sold at the end of 2015 for 2BTC - as we speak now is worth 33BTC. This is just a reminder to try be patient not WALK away with peanuts.

OYSTER PEARL is 108 mil. Total Supply should reach 5$ around May 2018 (April/May protocol launch) and one year later above 12$.

but there was christmas shopping time for approx. 2-3 weeks for anyone that was interested.
