Double Spending Risk Remains High After July 4th Bitcoin Fork

Quote
The delayed implementation of a bitcoin core update by a small number of the network's miners resulted in the addition of invalid transaction blocks to the bitcoin blockchain this weekend.

The result was a fork in the network that created two versions of the bitcoin blockchain, which continued for six blocks on 4th July. An additional three invalid blocks were added to the blockchain in a repeat of the issue the following day.

As a result, core developers issued a warning on Bitcoin.org requesting that wallet providers place increased scrutiny on incoming transactions due to the risk that funds could be double spent as a result of the discrepancy between chains.

How Ascribe Uses Bitcoin Tech to Help Underserved Artists

Quote
“The creators of the Internet are getting a raw deal.”

So says Trent McConaghy, CTO for Ascribe, a startup that is using the bitcoin blockchain to timestamp intellectual property and create a sustainable ownership structure for artwork and other digital media.

In a new interview with CoinDesk, McConaghy, co-author of a recently published white paper “Towards An Ownership Layer For The Internet”, explained how his startup is aiming to provide a foundational layer for artists and other independent creators to establish ownership over their works on a decentralized database – the bitcoin blockchain – and protect those rights following publication.

The company was conceived in 2013, during which time McConaghy – alongside co-founders Masha McConaghy and Bruce Pon – explored how the ownership concepts underlying bitcoin could be applied to other types of digital assets.

Brazilian Congressman Calls for Hearing on Bitcoin Regulation

Quote
Brazilian Congressman Manoel Junior has proposed a public hearing to discuss bitcoin and digital currency regulation.

The hearing, if held, would involve representatives from Banco Central do Brasil; the Receita Federal, the Brazilian tax enforcement agency; Conselho de Controle de Atividades Fiancerias, the country's anti-fraud agency; and representatives of the local bitcoin industry.

CoinBR CEO Safiri Felix, the only company named in the official request, indicated that discussions about such a meeting have been ongoing since a report on the technology was released by the Brazilian Senate in December 2014. At the time, the report recommended bitcoin regulation was unnecessary.

44  Economy / Lending / Re: BTC LOAN NEEDED PLEASE READ on: July 02, 2015, 01:08:19 PM
some random guy gave me a negative for no reason at all...

also if you could inform me if this is acceptable collateral ..

i have a paypal payment worth $230 that is pending to be released can i use that? otherwise i can also pay via my weekly paycheck.. i can show proof..

Random guys gave you a -ve trust feedback for good reason (see quote below), so actually you deserve it.
=snip=
The rule of "No Collateral, No Loan" means that in order to get a loan you must give collateral that is equal, or preferably higher to the amount you are being loaned.

If you completely ignore this sticky and make a loan request with no collateral, without having massive trust on the forum, the chances of you getting negative trusted feedback and therefore having a Trade with Extreme Caution tag is almost 100%.
=snip=
Also, we could inform you about what could be acceptable as collateral; however, the fact you didn't care to do proper research before asking for a loan only show how much risky you're as a borrower.

Coinfloor Launches Broker-Based UK Bitcoin Marketplace

Quote
London-based bitcoin exchange Coinfloor has launched Coinfloor Market, a broker-based peer-to-peer marketplace, which will enable consumers to buy bitcoin from professional brokers.

Speaking to CoinDesk, Coinfloor CEO Mark Lamb said the new marketplace is designed to provide a more consumer-friendly and personal bitcoin buying experience.

Bitcoin brokers, he noted, have to undergo a due diligence verification process, which will be refined over time.

46  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammed report on user kralle on: July 02, 2015, 09:20:09 AM
LOL .. Smiley
its too funny to notice that the thread tittle is "Scammed report on user kralle" and now the essence of thread has taken a right turn towards =omissis=.

It's not funny...scammers just use multiple accounts to create themselves a trustable image to allow their scams to succeed. Also, they make errors and allow people to track them by connecting dots between their multiple identities and/or accomplices. Kralle could just be one of them if evidence link it also to DavieT1337/lama-hunter alt-accounts.
47  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammed report on user kralle on: July 02, 2015, 08:46:27 AM
I actually did post on his thread a few days back, that he was likely a scammer and was trying to gather small amounts from multiple people to pull off a larger scam. However I edited my post later after he sent me a message. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1095602.msg11693111#msg11693111

But based on how he was replying or evading important questions and was asking money first and doing a delay in delivering I was almost certain about him being a scammer. Later I saw some other people vouch for him, which is also another reason I edited my post

Who were the vouches? Could be alts.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1095602.msg11693270#msg11693270
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1095602.msg11701032#msg11701032

both are full member and 1 have green trust. I don't think they're his alts.

btw I know there's two users with very similar username as DavieT (DavieT@gmx.de).

if youre referring to user DavieT1337 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=509778) he has 1 other known alt:

Hello its btcblogger Sorry for delay I was out of town so unable to contact anyone.
I will send password of this account to him with his 703.63 doge minus fee to him after getting my 0.001 BTC with interest.
Thanks
Yeah this is payment address - 1ACggpLdFH9twhePpTvLwacCYh93taQZMi
Inform me after sending 0.001 BTC with interest.
 Thanks

Hi There BTCBLOGGER,

This is my Second Account from DavieT1337.
I missed u since Saturday bro  Cry

But no matter, now we can trade Back. Could u please send me my Account Details First via PM.
I will send u after ure Loan back and then u can send me the Doge.

Thanks for not scamming and comming Back.

regards

lama-hunter

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=524277

Both DavieT1337 and lama-hunter were leaving each other fictious +ve trust feedbacks

Feedbacks on DavieT1337 trust page:

http://gyazo.com/cd0e73ec0417e8962bbf9e1e9dc57e80

Feedbacks on lama-hunter trust page:

http://gyazo.com/6cc1ea584f075c01b4c7c93bf0a79414

Roughly 3 weeks ago, DavieT1337 went straight out of the Newbie mode right into requesting a large (0.5BTC) loan, without a valid collateral.
Loan Amount : 0.5
Reason          : Investment in Mining
BTC Address  : 1A7EWrfkQWbBiz9b4TE6HUs3Xyrrn7cnk8
Term Length   : max of 24 days

-- Daily Income about 0.03

Then on June, 28th DavieT1337 exchanged fake +ve feedbacks between his alt-accounts (DavieT1337 & lama-hunter) & on the same day DavieT1337 exchanged +ve trust feedbacks with BTCBLOGGER (uid: 403194), an user who got multiple -ve trust feedbacks for promoting Ponzi scams, for blackmail/extort to have a Trust rating removed, etc.
To me it's enough to be convinced of DavieT1337 & all of his known alts being scammer accounts, so deserving also a -ve trust feedback. I don't know if BTCBLOGGER too is an alt-account of both DavieT1337 and lama-hunter; however, the lack of public evidence about the loan tx (no TxID has been published) make me believe they may be alts of the same person or multiple scammers cooperating to scam better.

The idea of this is not that bad, but I would never risk my anonymity by posting an address which I use more than once.
If you don't do it here, but you also put your address in this forum for joining sign campaign. You also expose your bitcoin address to the public!

you're absolutely right. that's the reason why I change my address every month, or at least try to do it Smiley

And so, if i want to change my address, i need to sign a message from the previous wallet i wrote times ago here?

Yes, to sign a message from the previous wallet and include into it the new BTC-address is the right way to change your staked address.

Sony’s First Flight Crowdfunding Platform Targets Japanese Market, Bitcoin Boost Imminent?

Quote
It is no secret that Sony has been dabbling around in the world of crowdfunding platforms in the past. But rather than trying to secure funding for their own projects, First Flight will take a slightly different approach. First Flight is the latest initiative coming from Sony’s Seed Acceleration program and is exclusively aimed at the Japanese market.

It has to be said however that First Flight will offer a lot more features than just crowdfunding, as this new online platform will also aim to bring new e-commerce options to Japan. The main goal for this latest Seed Accelerator Program’s initiative is to deliver experiences that move people emotionally through innovation.

Rather than just allowing the start-up company to share their vision regarding their project or idea, the customer will play a major role as well. By collecting ideas and inspiration from both parties, First Flight will help bring these new ideas to fruition by using direct and interactive communication.

UK's Largest Bitcoin Exchange Launches Coinfloor Market

Quote
Coinfloor is announcing the launch of the world's first broker based bitcoin marketplace. Coinfloor Market offers UK retail investors and consumers the ability to buy bitcoins and gain exposure to digital currency innovation in a secure environment.

The announcement follows an event in London, where Coinfloor met with the UK's top bitcoin brokers in order to further adoption of the currency. The 21 founding members of Coinfloor Market signed a pledge committing to create a safe and accessible marketplace for bitcoin. The resulting Bitcoin Brokers' Agreement closely mirrors the Buttonwood Agreement that formed the foundation of the New York Stock Exchange, which initially faced similar challenges to today's bitcoin marketplaces.

Coinfloor CEO, Mark Lamb said, "Our founding members are key to the success of Coinfloor Market. Just as the NYSE was committed to a decentralised network of brokers backed by a centralised exchange, Coinfloor is the first institution in the Bitcoin industry to mirror this proven model."

Silk Road: undercover DEA agent turned BitCoin thief pleads guilty

A former undercover agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration has pleaded guilty on charges of stealing more than $700,000 in digital currency – most of it from an online drug bazaar known as Silk Road that he infiltrated as part of a federal investigation.

Carl M Force, dressed in the orange garb of the San Francisco jail and shackled at the ankles, pleaded guilty to extortion, money laundering and obstruction of justice in federal court.

The former DEA agent could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison when sentenced in October.

Hi guys! Grin
I saved some money in the last year, now I'm looking for some opportunity in this kind of market to invest my money. Is it better buy altcoins or bitcoin? maybe mining? I'm just a bit confused, but determinate!

If you're looking for investments opportunities to put your BTC in, you could look to:

  • Investing your saved BTC in some dice site bankroll to ripe a share of house profits;
  • Lend some of your BTC to other users, here;
  • Lend some of your BTC to other users, on platforms like BTCJam or Bitbond;
  • Sell some service/product against BTC in the forum Marketplace;
  • Mine BTC, or some altcoins to be sold against BTC, if your electric bills are lower enough.

Unconfirmed Report Details $5 Million Bitstamp Bitcoin Exchange Hack

Quote
Six employees of Bitstamp were targeted in a weeks-long phishing attempt leading up to the theft of roughly $5m in bitcoin in January, according to an incident report said to be drafted internally by the bitcoin exchange.

The confidential document, posted to Reddit by single-purpose account, offers an in-depth look into what is believed to be the inside story of the hack, which resulted in the loss of just under 19,000 BTC earlier this year. Since then, the company has offered scant details on what took place behind the scenes, citing confidentiality regarding the ongoing investigation into the lost funds.

The report’s findings are notable as they illustrate the risks facing bitcoin exchanges, including social engineering attacks in which personal information is used to trick victims into providing a means of access to sensitive materials.

if you find someone's posts to be of low quality put them on ignore and you wont have to see their signature, i dont see how it affects you.

If you find someone publishing posts here violating forum rules - included posting low quality/pointless/uninteresting posts - while wearing a paid signature (or avatar) advertising, you should click on put a few words to describe the violation, click Submit and let  the Mods decide about it. Maybe, if you wish to be kind enough with campaign managers, you could also let them known about by PM.

Singapore Central Bank Funds Blockchain Recordkeeping Project

Quote
The Monetary Authority of Singapore, the city-state's central bank, has funded a blockchain-based record-keeping system as part of a five-year $225m investment plan aimed at financial technology.

Managing director Ravi Menon announced the Financial Sector Technology & Innovation initiative during a 29th June speech at the Global Technology Law Conference 2015 in Singapore.

The money will be used to build innovation centers and fund financial tech projects such as the blockchain recordkeeping system. The goal, he said, is to attract financial tech startups to build their companies in Singapore and, as a result, build the foundation for a "smart financial centre".

Silicon Valley Bank: UK Should Regulate Digital Currency Firms

Quote
The UK government should regulate activity in the cryptocurrency space, ideally working with regulators across the world to create global legislation, according to Silicon Valley Bank.

The US-based commercial bank, which boasts several offices worldwide, made these comments in its submission to the UK Treasury's call for information on digital currencies last November.

According to the four page submission, obtained by CoinDesk via a freedom of information request, regulation could help mitigate the risks associated with digital currencies and provide a framework for companies in the space to operate. If this were to happen, cryptocurrencies would become more appealing to users.

Every man his own currency you may think in these modern times...and even more confused when sites like XAPO offers collective Wallets and sites like BitMixer offers a Wallet of mixed currencys.
Can someone please explain how to act with theese to be on the safe side?

If you want to have a "safe" wallet...download one like Bitcoin Core, check it with an updated antivirus, install it...then make a backup and save your pwd & private keys on a sheet of paper (keep it on a safe far from PC). It should be safe enough for most users.

And legendary is random so it could be more then this.  You just don't know when it will happen only know minimum requirement.

What do you mean by random? Legendary rank is a lottery? The forum picks a lucky hero member every two weeks? I am far away from 800 activity, only want to know  Cheesy

Yes we can say this, Because if you search it in the Member List you will not see the Legendary Rank. Just go and check by your self, You will see Admin, Then Staff List and then Sr.member List it mean there in no Legendary List

You're wrong. If you search it in the Member List you will see Legendary rank. You only need to go "Member", then "Search for members", deflag all the checkboxes other than "Search by position", put the word "Legendary" in the search field and, finally, hit the search button.
