I have no idea who is who's alt, but what if something happens like:
1. I make an agreement with X, and an escrow Y who is actually an alt of X, which no one is aware of (No one is aware of who is who's alt around here, so it is a completely possible speculation)
2. After I send say 1BTC to escrow, I get no reply.
3. Game over.
I start a scam accusation, I will be dealing with the escrow and the seller, both of them who are supposedly independent agrees that I have not paid 1BTC to anyone. If I am, say a jr. member (easy target), how many would be on my side arguing against say, Quickseller? Sure, there's that scenario, but why does X even have to be involved? The same thing could happen in a direct non-escrow deal. The same trust and expectation would be involved. The simple solution to that is to arrange the deal out in the open. |

And I actually find it kind of funny how so many people think I'm QuickSeller. And now QuickSeller himself thinks I'm OgNasty. I mean how cool would that be to have two accounts in DefaultTrust? you mean like Wardrick claims to have and QS had at some point? in my book you arent QS. but have you changed your mind regarding "its not a scam to escrow own trades"? i'd really like to put you back on my trust list... but with this just statement i just...cant... Other than "OldScammerTag", there's only like a dozen or so guys in DefaultTrust, which is what I was referring to. I don't think QS ever claimed to have any accounts in that tier. And I still stand by my original assertion that it's not a scam per se to escrow your own trades, though let's call it what it really is: A deal in which you're sending first. However, tacking on additional escrow fees and making the counter party pay it is what tips the scales toward the shady side of things. |

You may be right Vod. I'm always impressed by your intuition and judgement.
Still, I would like to hear from tcspacepilot about what he actually did.
If he did use a bot to game rewards, I wouldn't consider that good behavior. Yup. Seems like everybody used to give Vod shit about jumping the gun and flagging people with negative Trust. Then weeks/months later it's revealed beyond a shadow of a doubt that almost every single one of the people Vod flagged were in fact scammers. |

I am suspicious as well unfortunately, not sure what i'm suspicious of exactly but something struck me as wrong. I don't even want to be involved. Here is the situation though. May 25th quickseller posts a thread asking to confirm if your account was not hacked, following a big hacking of the forum.  May 26th tomatocage says quickseller has his PGP to confirm he's not hacked. Why wouldn't tomatocage just look in his own PMs/email or wait till he could? Essentially quickseller is the one who verified tomatocage's account wasn't hacked, which makes zero sense.   May 29th tomatocage's account is locked out due to a password change? Something about getting the secret question wrong and a tor IP? It's confusing.  Later that day badbear helped tomatocage get the account back, but this is a massive breach of security...  It just seems really odd, I think tomatocage needs to really prove he is the authentic tomatocage, cause multiple people are talking about this as you alluded to. It will be good for tomatocage to stomp out this rumor. Could easily just be a case of if you sleep with dogs you get fleas (meaning there is no conspiracy here, but just being associated with quickseller raises the rumors of conspiracy). Damn it, I keep trying to click the "Quote" button from the screen caps lol Anyway yeah, please run a linguistics analysis between me and QS. I don't see how escrowing for himself would be a scam, unless he's tacking on an extra escrow fee and making the other party pay it. Even then there would be much more effective ways to scam such as, well, simply walking away with the entire escrow amount. From the outside it might seem a little shady, but you have to consider the fact that he's a highly trusted member and very effective scam-buster. As such it's only natural that he would make a lot of enemies from people whose intentions may not be totally above-board to begin with. So if, for instance, QS saw a deal for widgets in the Marketplace section that he couldn't pass up, but he knew that ordering widgets would potentially expose him to the sort of people previously referred to, it's only logical that he might use an alt to abstract himself.
tspacepilot, I like you, man. I think you bring to the forum a certain level of quality and content that most users sorely lack. Furthermore, I do not think QS's rating for you is totally necessary. However, I feel that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, so to speak. As I've said before, I'd rather have a few people butthurt than 10 times as many scammed.
So basically I'd file this accusation in the "big flippin deal" bucket.

Two scenarios will become of this: 1. You will get scammed by someone insisting that you send PayPal payment first, using the reasoning that "you're protected by PayPal since you can always dispute the charge and get your money back." Of course after you send payment, he'll stall and offload the money into cash-in-hand before the dispute can be processed. 2. You will send payment using a stolen PayPal account, which will lead to a charge-back later. Of if it's your own PayPal account, you'll file a dispute later. Unless you're already sitting on a fat stack of Bitcoins from the early days of mining, when given the opportunity to receive free money you will take it. That's just the way it goes -- it's human nature. |
