eBay does that even if you have an old account. It's quite annoying.
42  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: No Mt. Gox BTC received in original Bitcoin client. on: September 22, 2011, 09:30:58 PM
Yes okay, but my real question is: how long does it take for the Bitcoins to reach my wallet?

As long as your wallet is up to the current block (which can take several hours to run the first time), it'll show up there probably within 10 minutes. It won't be until you've got enough confirmations, however, that you can spend it. But it'll be there.
43  Economy / Goods / Re: BTC for Food on: September 22, 2011, 08:13:59 PM
Definitely not fair. I remember reading one story a year or two ago where they were discussing banning the things in the UK, for the same reasons they're banned here (choking hazard). Not fair. Kinder Eggs are cool!
44  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Seeking Jobs on: September 22, 2011, 08:10:49 PM
How many jobs get posted, vs. how many people are just "asking" for "donations" now in the sidebar? I've looked, and it's hard to tell how relevant any of the jobs are, how active the posters might be.  Undecided

You might want to look into http://www.bitcoinplus.com/ for CPU mining. The rate sucks terribly, but if you're going to have your computer on anyway and not be doing much besides surfing, it'll make you SOME coin. I've been running it on 2 comps for the past couple days while I keep GUIMiner going in the background. It's made about 0.002 so far. Not a lot at all, by any means, but if you'll have the computer on ANYWAY...

Hopefully, you've got multiple cores in your CPU; that helps a lot.
46  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer - Jessica with minecraft accounts on: September 22, 2011, 05:33:59 PM
The accounts are stolen, phished from other members. Contacted a member of an account she stole, definatly no friend of hers! The accounts will get blocked, and he will not refund (yes thats a guy)

Got proof of them being stolen?

Aside from apparently having hundreds of accounts (discounts for more than 10), '"more accounts every day":

I get new ones coming in like every few days ^^

How many "friends" would they have to have to have more coming in all the time? And Jessica saying:

Yes, and in the unlikely event that you lose access to an account, I can replace it with a new one free of charge. At prices this cheap, you're pretty much spending nothing for these accounts though Wink

Why would you lose access if the account is, as claimed, abandoned? And why would her "friends" have abandoned thousands of dollars worth of MC accounts?

A MC account is/was between $9 (in alpha) and $22 (current value) USD. That's between $900 and $2200 worth of accounts (assuming "only") 100 accounts. And s/he's selling them all off for about $125/$250 total?

Not to mention everything that other people have pointed out.

It IS a bit complicated.

If you just want to get some BTC to play around with, install the wallet from Bitcoin.org then go to http://freebitcoins.appspot.com/ and http://dailybitcoins.org/ for some free money. It's not much at all to start with, but it's something.

If you want to get into mining, do you at least have a non-onboard graphics card, preferably ATI and not nVidia?

http://mining.bitcoin.cz/ is very helpful for getting started mining. If you have Windows, Kiv's miner (on that page) is very, very easy to use.
48  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer - Jessica with minecraft accounts on: September 22, 2011, 05:07:21 PM
Say you bought a car from someone, only to get pulled over by the cops the next morning. You find out that the valet (Jessica) took it from a customer the night before, turned around and sold it to you.

You got what you paid for (a car), but under false pretenses. The customer may have given the valet the keys to park the car, but they never intended for the car to be sold. I'm no lawyer, but I do believe that (at least in most places) you'd have the right to at least sue the supposed owner for your money back under these circumstances.

I don't think the court would say "Oh, well, you did get a car, what are we supposed to do about it?"
49  Economy / Goods / Re: BTC for Food on: September 22, 2011, 04:55:56 PM
I hear it started because some kid choked and died. Who eats the egg whole, I mean seriously?

I've never heard of any kid actually dying like that. I've heard of watchgroups THEORIZING that a kid could die, but I haven't actually seen any stories that I remember.
50  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer - Jessica with minecraft accounts on: September 22, 2011, 04:24:42 PM
I requested, but the MOD said it was perfectly fine to do this?!??

Perfectly fine? But... they're stolen accounts...  Huh
51  Economy / Goods / Re: BTC for Food on: September 22, 2011, 04:09:17 PM
I believe they are illegal because the FDA forbids toys being sold with food or something along those lines. Nothing wrong with the egg itself, but the fact that it is sold with a toy inside is apparently what makes it illegal.

From what I understand, it has to do with Nestle/Mars rivalry? About 10 years ago, Nestle came out with a "WonderBall" (anyone remember those?). It was a chocolate ball, with packs of candy and stickers inside. IIRC, Mars didn't like this for one reason or another. One thing led to another, and the "WonderBalls" ended up outlawed because "kids might choke".

Something like that, anyway.

Personally, I love Kinder Eggs. I'd love to be able to buy them regularly.
52  Economy / Goods / Re: BTC for Food on: September 22, 2011, 03:46:23 PM
They still sell these in Canada must be something bad.

They do, indeed. If you drive to Canada and customs catches you bringing them back, from the various news stories I've read, it can be a $500 fine PER EGG. Ridiculous.
53  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer - Jessica with minecraft accounts on: September 22, 2011, 03:43:58 PM
Definitely agree with giving "Jessica" a scammer/thief label.
54  Economy / Goods / Re: BTC for Food on: September 22, 2011, 03:32:48 PM
Cool Site!

Can you get Kinder Chocolates? Especially the Kinder Eggs and Kinder Joy. Also the Beuno Bars  Cheesy
Love em!

The eggs aren't available in the usa, sucks

Thanks!

Charlie

The eggs are ILLEGAL in the US, which sucks even more. You can get your eggs confiscated and have to pay large fines for having them. Other Kinder products are fine, and almost as delicious. But not as much fun.  Sad

The first one is absolutely amazing even when I have no idea what's on the photo...

Looks like headphones, the kind you might find in a studio setting.
56  Economy / Goods / Re: BitBrew Promotion! on: September 22, 2011, 02:58:31 AM
I hope to get more images up on the site soon and will definitely flesh out the descriptions.

"Gunpowder" is just the name of a certain type of green tea. It may have gotten its name because the leaves resembled gunpowder pellets.

Ah ha. I thought it was the fine powdered tea that I sometimes see at the Asian market. I don't actually drink much tea myself, but I have relatives that love the stuff.  Cheesy
57  Economy / Goods / Re: BitBrew Promotion! on: September 22, 2011, 02:42:06 AM
Loose-leaf tea as well as coffee? I may have to do some Christmas shopping here. Wink

Any chance of getting pics and/or more details for some of the teas (like the chamomile and the herbal berry)? "Gunpowder green" would be leaf powder, not actual leaves?
58  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: looking at wallet services? want a bit of bitcoin? on: September 22, 2011, 01:08:05 AM
On the send money page, you have to actually try sending money before you find out that the minimum send is $0.01. Might I suggest adding that to your FAQ or to the initial send page itself?
59  Economy / Lending / Re: large investment for an electronic handheld wallet? on: September 22, 2011, 12:33:57 AM
I have to 2nd the opinion about smart phones.  Phones will be integrated with credit cards in a couple of years making another gadget to carry around an anachronism.

I really hope not.

Drop your phone? Oops, can't buy groceries.
Accidentally leave your phone in the wash? Well, you didn't really need that prescription anyway.
Kid take apart your phone "to see how it works"? Oh, darn, the rent can wait.
Phone network down? Filling your car's gas tank is so overrated.

I'd rather keep my thin little (relatively) durable strips of plastic, you go ahead and use a smartphone.  Wink
60  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I need cash for my bitcoin on: September 21, 2011, 10:49:06 PM
[..]So put the cash in a bag, and put the bag in a locker at the train station.  Mail me the key.  Once I have the cash, I'll send you all 10,000 BTC. Trust me guys, I'm good for it.

Uh, this train station thing sounds like in one those movies where a lot of mobsters one one side and the police on the other side wait for some guy to open a locker. On ther other hand 1$ per BTC sound waaaayyy to tempting to be true. Feels like the Nigerian ministry of Banks constantly mailing me they have zillions of $$ found and ready for pickup  Cheesy

CONFIDENTIAL

Dear Sir/Madam,

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dr. (Mrs.) Mariam Abacha, the wife of the late head of state and commander in chief of the armed forces of the federal republic of Nigeria who died on the 8th of June 1998.

My ordeal started immediately after my husband's death on the morning of 8th June 1998, and the subsequent take over of government by the last administration. The present democratic government is determined to portray all the good work of my late husband in a bad light and have gone as far as confiscating all my late husband's assets, properties, freezing our accounts both within and outside Nigeria. As I am writing this letter to you, my son Mohammed Abacha is undergoing questioning with the government. All these measures taken by past/present government is just to gain international recognition.

My late husband had/has Eighty Million Bitcoins (80,000,000.00BTC) specially preserved and encrypted on CD of which only my husband and I knew about. It is packed in such a way to forestall just anybody having access to it. It is this sum that I seek your assistance to get out of Nigeria as soon as possible before the present civilian government finds out about it and confiscate it just like they have done to all our assets.

I implore you to please give consideration to my predicament and help a widow in need.

Your faithfully,

Dr (Mrs.) Mariam Abacha (M.O.N)
