This is so hard to read with individual backslashes...you can use single quotes around the entire string:
namecoind name_update d/example '{"map": {"": "1.2.3.4", "www": "4.3.2.1"}}'
Much better indeed :p I've launched the dot-bit project to spread .bit domains by providing ressources and tools for the developpers and the end users : http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=7412.0

Just a little news to announce the dot-bit project (dot-bit.org and dot-bit.bit). Why dot-bit ?Namecoin.com/org/net are not free. So... Dot-BIT goal is to spread .bit domains by providing ressources and tools for the developpers and the end users (and avoid to flood the bitcoin forum too much with a derivated project). You can : - download the namecoin software, - register to the development mailing list, - find active namecoin sellers - find a list of current dns servers, - follow the project progress with current and future tasks. This is a wiki, so you can add your own dns server (like gsan does :p), complete and re-organise it, because there is still much to do (separate end user and developpers in two pages, create a FAQ, detail other tasks, etc).

There will be a separated program bundled with namecoin to manage DNS stuffs.

If you want to support wikileaks and other websites that may be deprived of their domain, you may use namecoin and .bit (only, for now?) domains. I've put the first public DNS server that manage .bit domains : http://namecoin.bitcoin-contact.org/

I find the "my account page" very confusing. The difference between the three tables where the first column is "Public" is unclear.
Also, the directions for validating a bitcoin address could be better presented -- maybe in numbered Steps that are easily visually distinguishable? Furthermore, no need to show all of the steps at once; why not just show the relevant step at the relevant point in time?
This is a joke, i guess. You can post message without being registered. That's why you can add your identity with verified infos too. I've done a major update of the code, and, of course, those bugs don't appears with my accounts (it would be too easy :p). I find the account page a bit confusing too, do you have an idea of how to do better ? Finally, the right version of bitcoin isn't available for OS X yet, so I can't follow through on registering an address yet. Not your fault, obviously, but something to consider.
Indeed. If i remeber correctly, this is planned (or for the next version ?) Thanks for your reports. I'll do another full test to find any other bug. ps : there is still full error and notice activated. That's also why you see also warnings (i'll desactivate them).

There no security problem with hashing + text padding. So, it's now ready for inclusioni guess

I am getting an error message when I click on a message: View message :
Fatal error: Class 'message' not found in /var/alternc/html/b/bitcoin/web/bitcoin-contact.org/template/pageViewMessage.php on line 9
Thanks for reporting the bug. The problem is fixed :p

Hmm, nice thingy to keep my pseudonymous identities in a single place Oh yeah, one question :S I have successfully verified an e-mail address and an OTC identity, but when trying to do so with a Bitcoin address, even after checking the transaction to myself has several confirmations, I'm met with this error: Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /var/alternc/html/b/bitcoin/web/bitcoin-contact.org/index.php on line 179 Am I doing something wrong? Hum, sorry, bitcoin daemon was down. I've restarted it, you should not see the error anymore. But, i guess you have not used the 0.3.21 version of bitcoin which allow full precision in transaction amounts ?

Use 'make' instead of 'make -f makefile.xxx'. Then you'll need to configure a diffrent RPC port in the config file (in ~/.namecoin/bitcoin.conf), and set a password too.

Almost all transactions can be sent without a fee.
How to avoid fees : - do not send payment less than 0.01 BTC If the GUI propose you a fee, there is 2 possibilities : - GUI has chosen coins recently used : click cancel and send again, it may change the coins used. If not, you can wait or change the amount. - GUI has chosen a lot of coins to make your payement : click cancel and send again, it may change the coins used. If not, you can wait or change the amount.
An option to use old coins in priority could avoid the last 2 problems.

word of advise: take over ALL TLDs except those which are already taken including any length from 1 to 12 symbols. (Maybe leave ICANN to play in 2 letter TLD sandbox). Think Big! Treat existing DNS infrastructure as legacy stuff.
Added: Break all the rules. Discard stupid DNS artefacts, wherever possible, in the name of simplicity. Shock the world.
How would you design the whole thing ? I guess it wound't be compatible with existing DNS ? (An advantage of remaining compatible is you don't need to run the namecoin software if you don't want) Is it you who links to some (long) paper of an old ICANN guy no satified of the current functionning ?
