401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Deeponion panic selling due to novaexchange closure on: October 30, 2017, 10:19:54 PM
Full panic is going now on novaexchange btc/onion, due to the announce that the exchanger will close in March.

It's already knowed that onion will soon be listed on other exchangers, and besides that they announce only a temporary closure and we are months away, but panic is blowing hard....

Anybody here selling/buying like now?

I saw the news but I wasn't holding anything there so I don't have to do anything. Never heard of onion coin before. Is it worth it? If so, since you say everyone is panic selling do you recommend buying it? It's always a good opportunity to profit from these panic sells. We all saw some panic selling a few months ago with the ICOs ban and the exchange suspension in China, it was definitely worth it to buy some cheap BTC during that time. Are you doing to do it with onion?
402  Economy / Economics / Re: Wonder how many people can hold BTC for more than 3 years on: October 30, 2017, 10:15:06 PM
BTC was around $300 3 years ago.

Wonder how many people can hold BTC for more than 3 years and enjoy the amazing profit in this period Smiley

I'm sure there are a lot of early holders out there, I'm sad I didn't even knew bitcoin back then, but I think it's a lot easier to be a holder now, than it was a few years back. There is more trust around bitcoin now than it was back then. Early adopters would have to survive the MtGox scandal, and the silk road scandal as well. Also bitcoin is getting regulated, which means that is gets easier to trust it now. There is no reason not to hold in these days. I think we are not to late though, since this is just starting. We are also early holders!
403  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Does Bitcoin work for online shopping? on: October 30, 2017, 10:03:28 PM
When you buy something on eBay or Amazon, you pay the seller, he ships the product and upload a tracking number.
If you haven't received the item, you can call eBay or Amazon and, basically, what happens is that if they have a tracking number that shows that the item has been delivered, then it is ok, otherwise eBay or Amazon reverses the transaction and you get your money back.
Is that possible with bitcoin? What if I buy a boat online for 2 bitcoins and I never receive it? Is bitcoin able to solve this problem?

Thanks

No, that is not possible. Bitcoin transactions are irreversible, so if you pay the seller directly then there is nothing you can do if he decide to scam you. I think it's easy to solve this though. First the site that is providing the service could act as an escrow and hold your payment, until the item is delivered. This way you would be protected. There could also be a trust system, like this forum has, and you could rate sellers. This way they would have to work for their reputation, and they wouldn't risk it if they wanted to succeed in their business.

I have no idea how overstock deals with this, or openbazaar but I really think a combination of these two options would solve that problem.
404  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: World govts fear Bitcoin because they can’t tax it – John McAfee on: October 29, 2017, 02:30:36 PM
Governments can tax exchanges and they can say what is legal tender and what is not. Suppose a government dictates that you cannot pay with BTC? You would still be able to buy some old furniture from a neighbor with BTC, but you couldn't pay a flight ticket, or at a restaurant with BTC. Any government can do it. I don't think they're much afraid...

Yes they can tax exchanges, but only normal and centralized ones. What about the decentralized exchanges, that operate on the blockchain? There is nothing they can do about those, and that's why bitcoin can't really be regulated. As McAfee also said one day, bitcoin can only regulate itself, and he is right about that. We, as users, can decide how much regulation we accept, and that's one of the beauties of bitcoin.

We can choose not to pay taxes from our coins if we want, it will be hard for governments to track us, but the question is, why would we do that? It's perfectly fine to pay some taxes from bitcoin, as long as they are not abusive. We all win if we do that, let's not be greedy.
405  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There are more gold than Bitcoin on: October 29, 2017, 02:20:35 PM

21,000,000 Vs infinite amount of gold. find more than 21M Bitcoins.

This is cool information, but you aren't using it well. In theory yes, gold might be "infinite" in the universe, but can we have access to it? The answer is no. At least not right now, and with the knowledge we have about science and the Universe. So in a practical sense, gold continues to be scarce, and it's price is not affected by the info you just provided. If we were to find a huge supply of gold in an place that is accessible to us, then yes, it's price would drop.
406  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to find lost bitcoins? on: October 29, 2017, 02:00:35 PM
I know it's impossible to find lost bitcoins. If one loses access to his address and does not have the private key then those bitcoins will be out of circulation for good. But after reading this topic, I got another question. Wouldn't be important to know how many bitcoins were lost?

No one could know for sure, but maybe they could have an estimate about it. Like if coins are stuck in an address for lots of years, and probably those addresses are associated with wallets that are no longer operational (like multibit classic, etc), wouldn't that mean that those coins are potencial lost?

I don't even know if you can try to associate an address to a wallet, but you can probably check for coins that haven't been moved in a long time.
The thing is, that since BTC is limited, being able to estimate how much BTC were lost, could have an impact on it's price.
407  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Player Vs Player Betting Game. Will you be interested to participate? on: October 29, 2017, 01:46:39 PM

At this point, I should only say that it is a multiplayer game.

I will be the referee and I will monitor the game very closely to ensure that everything is fair.

It won't be like 100 games will be played daily. As it will be manual process, maximum of 1 game will be played daily with x amount of players.

You got my attention, because it looks like a different game for sure, but I really need more information to say if I would play this game or not.
You are describing a multiplayer game that has the need of a referee? That's quite strange, and I don't know any type of online multiplayer game that would use a referee, and I don't even know how you would do this.

I only see one problem here. If the game is good and you get a few people interested, holding just 1 game a day won't create a big waiting list to play the game? Or one game would support a big amount of players every day?
408  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC under 4K? on: October 28, 2017, 08:10:30 PM
Do you think we will see BTC below 4K ever again?

I think that's highly unlikely to happen. Only if some major problem would ever happen with it, like a bug being found, or if some huge problems with regulation ever happen, or some huge scandal related to bitcoin (like we already had in the past). Bitcoin is getting popular, so although it will continue volatile for a long time, it will hardly have major dips like that, because it's tendency, if things continue to work well, is to continue it's adoption process, that will increase it's price since their supply is limited.
409  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple?? on: October 28, 2017, 08:04:35 PM
I think coins like ripple or stellar wont have many changes in their prices. They have great potencial and attention from banks and big companies like IBM now, that is working with stellar. But I think they will never be real valuable coins. Why would banks want to back up something that could end up hurting them? Their technology is useful, but since they have such a huge supply, it's almost impossible for their price to rise. They will probably be used in the future for it's applications, but those using it (banks), won't really care about their price, and probably want it to continue being low.
410  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Portuguese League Prediction Thread (Primeira Liga) on: October 28, 2017, 06:32:41 PM
Now is not the best time for Portuguese football. A few years ago, teams from this country, played in Europe very strong. I do not even know what the decline in the level of the Portuguese teams is connected with?

Why do you say that? Let's just look at the Champions League, we have the Top3 Portuguese teams there. I can agree with you if we talk about Benfica, because not only they have lost all three matches they played, but they also got a very heavy defeat vs Basel. The thing is they are not doing very well this season on Portuguese League, so I would say that is a problem with Benfica and not with Portuguese teams in general.

If you look at Sporting and Porto, they are doing ok. Sporting is no match for Barcelona and Juventus, the only thing they can do is win vs Olympiakos, which they did, and try to play well vs Juve or Barça, which I think they did as well.

As for Porto, they are in a very competitive group as well, with a lot of rich teams. Monaco won the french league last year (that has PSG in it, so it was a big deal), and Porto manage to defeat them. Leipezig finished in second on bundesliga, and is in 3rd place right now just one point bellow Dortmund, so they are not an easy team and Porto played well vs them, and could have done better because the first goal they suffered resulted from a mistake form their GK.

Right now I think they are doing quite well, and Porto can still advance to the next phase, and Sporting can still do something in Europa League, so I don't think they have declined that much, from what they normally do.
411  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it possible for the bitcoin to lose it's value ? on: October 27, 2017, 08:23:27 PM
Cryptocurrencies capitalization is more than $100 bln.
Bitcoin can not crash because a lot of money was invested in it and it brings a great value.

What tangible value are you talking about?

I think it's very easy to answer that question. Bitcoin is decentralized and scarce, which makes it quite immune to hyperinflation. It's secure and transparent because of the blockhain, but it still provides anonymity. It allows you to make payments without the need to use banks, so it gives the control of your money back to you, where it should be, and it also helps those that don't have access to bank accounts.
These are some of it's benefits that provide it value, and there are a lot more. Bitcoin should really be taken seriously, and it's price is still undervalued.
412  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can bitcoin possibly hit usd10,000 by end of year? on: October 27, 2017, 08:06:25 PM
Am I being overly optimistic? The trajectory is looking very real!

I love bitcoin, but I not sure that will be possible until the end of the year. I think it will really depend on how the sigwit2x fork will be handled. If bitcoin does well, we will see it's price increase for sure. Maybe $10.000 would be to much, but around $8000 is really achievable in my opinion. Apparently we will have another fork in December, called bitcoin silver. Since the price usually increases every time a fork is about to happen, that could help as well.
413  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Portuguese League Prediction Thread (Primeira Liga) on: October 27, 2017, 08:00:38 PM
The Portuguese FA should try and make their league a little more entertaining like the major leagues in Europe because as far as i can see, Most players use their Primeira Liga as a stepping stone to be recruited into the other high profile leagues in Europe and currently they are losing players to China now.

I don't think there is much they can do. Portugal is a small country, and not very rich, so teams can't really afford big salaries to players. If the teams can't afford to hire good players, their overall performance won't be that great. If teams are not that strong, and don't really have a chance to do well in European competitions then less players will want to play in Portuguese teams, so it ends up being a cycle.

The only teams that can actually do anything, are the top3 ones, since they usually go to European competitions., but even on those, is normally like you said. They are used by players and coaches to move to higher Leagues. With the budget that these teams actually have, I think they are doing really well. Take a look a FC Porto when they had José Mourinho coaching them, that was a really big achievement for a Portuguese team. But even after that, would Mourinho stay at Porto? Of course not, it's not possible. Or take a look at Sporting, do you think they would be able to keep Luis Figo, or Cristiano Ronaldo there? It's not possible.

Portuguese league is not that amazing, but I still enjoy seeing their games from time to time, because like I said, even though it's an average league in a small country without many resources, we see coaches and players like those I've mentioned emerging from there, and that is something worth mentioning in my opinion (not even talking about Portugal being the actual European Champion, because that is also huge in a small country like that).
414  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin overcome Paypal? on: October 26, 2017, 06:53:21 PM
Do you think that sometime in the future, Bitcoin might overcome Paypal, as it scales in capacity and userbase over the years?

We already have the ability to create our own marketplace with OpenBazaar, that uses Bitcoin as its payment method, so it should be no surprise that the combination of these two may be a fierce competition for both eBay and Paypal.

Nevertheless, feel free to vote on the poll above and express your opinion about it, if desired.  Grin

You don't only have OpenBazaar. Don't forget about overstock.com, that already uses bitcoin in a long time. We keep also seeing rumors about amazon allowing it's customers to use bitcoin, so maybe we will see it eventually. The only things stopping bitcoin from overcoming paypal right now, as a method of payment, is the small tx per second it supports. Once that is solved, then paypal will really need to adapt if it wants to survive.
415  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Exchanges Are Closing! What will be other ways to buy/sell bitcoins? on: October 26, 2017, 06:48:58 PM
What do you think exchanges in long run, exchanges are the weakest point of bitcoin as most of them are centralized. Do you have any other ideas or plans?

You have some options out there if you don't trust the "normal" exchanges currently available. You can opt for peer to peer exchanges, like localbitoins, or you can go even further and use a decentralized exchange. Peer to peer exchanges have the advantage of being quite easy to use, and you normally just need to register on a website. On a decentralized exchange, that operates on blockchain you will need to download and install some kind of application, and normally they are not as easy to use as the typical exchange like coinbase.

I do like the idea of decentralized exchanges. They can't really be hacked, and the users is always in control of his own money. As the confidence in the blockchain grows, and it's applications, I think that we will see more and more decentralized exchanges being used.
416  Economy / Economics / Re: Investment amount on: October 26, 2017, 06:39:17 PM
We all hate to lose money, so it's perfectly normal that you feel the need to be cautious with your investment amount. But although you will always feel bad if you end up losing your investment, you must be sure that if it happen it will not harm you in any other way (like affecting your finances or your family finances, etc).

Ask yourself how much you can lose and still say to yourself, that although you feel bad, no real harm was done to your life.
Normally experts suggest that since crypto is very volatile, you should aim for 5% to 10% of your income.
417  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will all these forks do in the long run with Bitcoin? on: October 25, 2017, 10:41:08 PM
Well I don't know. There are several position and I must say I'm quite divided right now. Some go even as far as saying that the forks put in jeopardy one of the most important factors of bitcoin, that is it's scarcity. They say that since you can fork and double the coin supply at any moment, by creating two chains, that bitcoin is not really scarce. I don't say I agree with it, because you actually get two different coins after the fork. But if you look to bgold, bcash, B2x, then you can see that they really didn't offered anything truly special, so it's king of just more coins on the market.

There are also those more optimistic, that say that this is a good way to evolve the coin and it's community. It's almost like survival of the fittest. Every time a fork happens, bitcoin gets stronger as it's users choose to stay with it. Some leave but the majority stays, and those leaving will stop bothering the ones that stayed, so BTC is getting more stronger and more united this way.

Like I said I'm a little divided. I agree that bitcoin is getting stronger as people choose to stay with the real BTC, but it does generate some confusion to the market, with all these new coins popping up, with just some small changes. If the "unity effect" does not take place, and people start getting divided after every fork, we will end up with a lot of similar coins, and it's value will drop, because it's almost like if the supply was increasing (because if all new chains survive, we are getting a lot of similar coins to choose from).
418  Economy / Gambling / Re: e-SportsBetting.org - Write Esports Betting Tips - Win Real Money - 100% FREE on: October 25, 2017, 10:24:39 PM
Since your website is call e-SportsBetting, I'm assuming there is no plan in adding any other type of sports bet right? I like e-sports, and since it's free I might give it a go on next month, but I think it would be cool if you offered the possibility of betting on a larger variety of sports, and not just e-sports.
As for the prize, I would prefer more prizes, instead of just a few big ones.
419  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Where do Bitcoin poker players play and why? on: October 25, 2017, 10:19:38 PM
Although I love the game, right now I'm not playing anywhere. I used to play at betcoin.ag, because from all the rooms I knew it was the one with most players. Never had any problems with them, but I see do many scam accusations, that I decided to not risk anymore. Their player base, although the biggest one in crypto poker, wasn't that special, so no point in risking it. I see some new rooms showing up in the gambling section, but I haven't tried them yet. Maybe it's time to check for poker rooms again, and see if they have evolved a bit.
420  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How Do I Split Bitcoin Gold From Bitcoin Using Electrum Wallet? on: October 23, 2017, 07:57:24 PM
I have my Bitcoins stored in an Electrum wallet.

Please provide a straightforward method for splitting the Bitcoin Gold coins from my Electrum wallet and sending to an exchange.

Thanks!

Right now Electrum wallet is not even listed in bitcoin gold supported wallets, so it's hard to know if you will be able to use it to claim your bgold or not. Coinomi is though, and their system to claim the bcash was quite easy, so it will probably be the same with this new alt. I also saw in this article that Bittrex will take a snapshot and will give it's users bgold, but they don't say if you will be able to exchange it or not.
https://cointelegraph.com/news/bittrex-issues-official-statement-about-bitcoin-gold-warns-users

I will wait for a while before I claim them. I would like to receive the free cash, but I wont risk my BTC to do it.
