wtf in irc they told me the way to check it in linux was to type rm -rf /

and now im posting this on my phone because something is wrong with my computer

wtf is going on

Try NOT to delete the root partition!

Don't listen to this advice. You have to take a risk every once in a while, otherwise life gets boring. Live on the edge!

Ouch. As much as I know, rm=remove, I know this much. Next time should research cmds, prior to executing them. It's like mentioning /cp to newbies in call of duty. Lol. /cp isn't as damaging though, it just disconnects/exits cod. But for someone to mention a cmd to remove a partition are/is an asshole at the least.

I will give you the anatomy of the cmd:

rm = remove

-f = force

-r = recursive (delete everything, including dirs)

/ = root partition

If you run that command, you sir, are f*cked.

dd is worse, though. You can really mess things up with dd.
Like overwriting the first 512 bytes of the disk
Enjoy
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1
4062  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Start Using mBTC as Standard Denomination? on: May 31, 2013, 01:21:21 PM
Please rather consider XBT for reasons elaborated here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=220761.msg2326526#msg2326526

Although the most sensible solution long-term, it does cause issues with the current exchange rate.  Even the cheapest items will be quoted in hundreds of thousands of XBT, and the exchange rate itself doesn't look quite so appealing when it's 0.000129$/XBT.

I don't see why people can't just use the units that are most appropriate to the denomination.  Use 150mBTC rather than 0.15BTC; use 20MBTC rather than 20000000BTC; use 24XBT (or 24uBTC) rather than 0.000024BTC.  Is it so hard?
This, a thousand times
4063  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC - XBT - bitcoinfoundation.org on: May 31, 2013, 01:14:17 PM
XBC would be BTC

Then 1 XBC = 1 BTC = 10^6 XBT = 10^6 µBTC

Not if the rest of the world blacklists their chain

If the rest of the world tries to blacklist the longer Chinese chain after remerge, I'm sure the Chinese miners (who own >51% power) will fight back with a 51% attack to the shorter "main chain".
Epic times ahead then Grin

If they use their 51+% to attack Bitcoin they will have few hash power left for their chinese fork
Miners from the rest of the world could then attack the chinese fork
4067  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Digging source code: "Private key" vs. "Secret parameter" on: May 31, 2013, 12:10:34 PM
Looks like what we usually call a private key is a short 32 byte "secret parameter".
Absolutely

Why do we need a big CPrivKey when you can always generate key pair from just a secret?
I'm interested in the answer too

Can I trade it for bacon, ham, or other pig derivatives?
Yes! Looking forward to see such coins soon

I guess you can trade best with BBQcoin Smiley
Yes but beware, the Spider Pig Coins might be destroyed at the end of the process

4076  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Futurecoin on: May 31, 2013, 07:55:41 AM
But why?  Just to have your name in the codebase on github or what?

How is it going to be different?
Will you innovate something new?
What will this coin do/have that distinguishes itself from the others (what, 20 this month alone) that have been released recently?

Honestly, not trying to be negative, just truly wondering what motivates all these additional coins.
Yeah sure, you should look at my github account before writing such things  Roll Eyes

One thing I don't get, why all the alt coins haters come to my joke thread when all other new scam coins are free from such comments?

4080  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Computational bounty using output scripts? on: May 30, 2013, 04:47:20 PM
Yes it seems true that the solution finder has no way to protect their claim without mining their own block. I suppose you could add extra conditions to require certain public keys, such as to issue the bounty to specific individuals. You could for instance make a contract with a supercomputing company to find a solution by requiring their public key and signature in addition to whatever other conditions in the script. The problem there is that the funds are locked up unless there is some backup key to redeem them if the company fails to find a solution. Regardless, I think we will see more complex uses for output scripts as time goes on...
Yeah, scripts have HUGE potential
The problem is security and developers' unwillingness to accept more op codes (ie making them standard)
