4081  Economy / Auctions / Advertise on this forum - Round 71 on: February 15, 2013, 12:14:43 AM
In order to collect more money for the creation of good forum software, the forum is selling ad space in the area beneath the first post of every topic page.

Ads are allowed to contain any non-annoying HTML/CSS style. No images, JavaScript, or animation (no marquee or blinking). Ads must appear 3 or fewer lines tall in my browser. Ads will be prefixed with "Advertisement:". Ad text may not contain lies, misrepresentation, or inappropriate language. Ads may not link directly to any NSFW page. Ads may be rejected for other reasons.

There are 10 total ad slots which are randomly rotated. So one ad slot has a one in ten chance of appearing. Eight of the slots are for sale here. Ads appear only on topic pages with more than one post, and only for people using the default theme.

The ad lasts 7 days starting from when I put it up.

Stats

Exact historical impression counts per slot:
https://bitcointalk.org/adrotate.php?adstats

Info about the current ad slots:

Auction rules

Post your bids in this thread. Prices must be stated in BTC per slot. You must state the max number of slots you want. When the auction ends, the highest bidders will have their slots filled until all eight slots are filled.

So if someone bids for 8 slots @ 5 BTC and this is the highest bid, then he'll get all 8 slots. If the two highest bids are 8 slots @ 4 BTC and 1 slot @ 5 BTC, then the first person will get 7 slots and the second person will get 1 slot.

The notation "2 @ 5" means 2 slots for 5 BTC each. Not 2 slots for 5 BTC total.

- When you post a bid, the bids in your previous posts are considered to be automatically canceled. You can put multiple bids in one post, however.
- All bid prices must be evenly divisible by 0.25.
- The bidding starts at 0.5.
- I will end the auction at an arbitrary time no more than 12 days from now. (I will probably end the auction 1-3 days before the ads are scheduled to go up.)
- If two people bid at the same price, the person who bid first will have his slots filled first.
- Bids are considered invalid and will be ignored if they do not specify both a price and a max quantity, or if they could not possibly win any slots

If these rules are confusing, look at some of the past forum ad auctions to see how it's done. I also post periodic status updates which should help make things clear.

You must pay for your slots within 24 hours of receiving the payment address. Otherwise your slots may be sold to someone else.

I restored it.

seems like a big CSRF vulnerability.

It is a bad design, but the links have session IDs, so no CSRF. But don't give anyone your links or they'll be able to impersonate you...

4084  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for people to store some of the forum's money on: February 14, 2013, 03:52:41 AM
people such as pirateat40 also donated to the forum

do you want theymos to send 50 BTC to him and ask him to pledge those coins for forum use 'when needed' ?

Maybe he'd give the forum a special 100% weekly interest rate. Smiley
4085  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for people to store some of the forum's money on: February 14, 2013, 12:14:41 AM
I'm still writing the contract. I don't have a lot of time to work on it.
4086  Other / Meta / Re: Upcoming downtime on: February 13, 2013, 04:01:35 AM
The error log has too many trivial errors. I wasn't able to immediately find the 502s. I may look into it more later.
4087  Other / Meta / Re: Upcoming downtime on: February 13, 2013, 03:21:44 AM
Strangely enough I have only ever gotten one 502 in the last few days. What browsers are you all using?

I'm going to find some way of upgrading the hardware. There's probably some way to get more performance out of this hardware, but I don't know how.
4088  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Cable News: Dorner has injured several officers again. One officer rp'd dead. on: February 13, 2013, 01:43:28 AM
I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was an innocent person in the cabin and now the police are trying to figure out how to justify or cover up their actions.
4089  Other / Off-topic / Re: Question for the php-heads... on: February 12, 2013, 05:08:13 AM
This will run if $balance is > 0

No, it will run if $balance != 0. If $balance is less than 0 gmp_cmp will return -1, which is true.
4090  Other / Off-topic / Re: Question for the php-heads... on: February 12, 2013, 04:48:47 AM
var_dump before gmp_cmp.

My guess is that the second do_query returns null or something like that.
4091  Other / Meta / Re: [bug] cliking "delete post" with middle button kills it , no confirmation dialog on: February 12, 2013, 01:50:48 AM
That problem can't be easily fixed.

I can restore the post. Was it this one? What thread was it in?

Would be great to have a powerful wiki mechanism at a top of theme instead of simple machines forum simple topic...

I mean all this stuff with categorizing, systematization, self-linking, such ways that no repeat jobs will required, like mirror to en.bitcoin.it/wiki or en.wikipedia.org.

To have to see all related topics of e.g. ppcoin here, or get up by categories, and look at mining peculiar properties, or whatever else, but not a rude brute of new snow-like falling topics from multi-languages branches.

go ahead and do it. it's a lot of work, You have to do a lot of research on every coin and some work on layout. if there will be some nice wiki page I will link it in big font at the top of OP. right now its just a quickly made and errorous copy of earlier version of this thread. no updates, no corrections. thats why it's linked on the bottom.

major changes:

as I realized, only btc and ltc are in fact a currency :
name of topic changed from "list of all cryptocurrencies to list of all cryptocoins"

TRC is going to minor, with working exchange

minor changes in descriptions of btc,trc .

/edit
ppc is back, my mistake, forgot about bitparking exchange

4092  Other / Meta / Re: Upcoming downtime on: February 11, 2013, 11:14:42 PM
I'm already using that.

I may have improved the situation by decreasing the maximum amount of memory that php-fpm and mysql can use.
4093  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions on: February 11, 2013, 09:28:02 PM
How come e.g. user mentore (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=79953;sa=statPanel) has Newbie status but can post on a thread outside the Newbie-section: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5441.msg1518796#msg1518796

Such users have been whitelisted.
4094  Other / Meta / Re: Upcoming downtime on: February 11, 2013, 08:15:14 PM
Yeah, I restarted the database so I can maybe see what's happening.

It looks like there's more than enough free memory. free reports 1250 MB free memory minus buffers, and smem gives similar stats. But for some reason Linux uses swap a lot (causing slowness) and occasionally the OOM killer kills php-fpm processes (causing 502 errors), so I guess there isn't actually enough memory. Anyone know what might be causing this?
4095  Other / Off-topic / Re: Pope Benedict XVI abdicts, bitcoin up? on: February 11, 2013, 07:17:04 PM
I don't see how it would affect the price.

Just a few weeks ago I was reading Wikipedia articles about the papacy and thinking that I'd like to see a new pope get elected soon. The induction ceremonies might be interesting. Apparently there's some chance that the new pope will be non-white, which would be very strange/interesting.

I wonder what luke-jr thinks about the abdication.

I haven't been seeing any. Do they appear at any particular times, or on any particular sorts of pages?
4098  Economy / Economics / Re: Can we call this guy the most ignorant guy on earth? on: February 11, 2013, 05:34:40 AM
He's unfortunately also the moderator of http://www.reddit.com/r/austrian_economics/, which is why /r/Bitcoin links to a different Austrian Economics subreddit in its sidebar.

I have seen that same little icon of his profile on youtube on a poster or two right here on the forums...

He designed that "V for voluntary" symbol, but it's widely used by other ancaps.
4099  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAMMER: Cablepair (Tom) from BTCFPGA.com/bitcoinasic.net on: February 11, 2013, 05:14:45 AM
His account was compromised a few weeks ago, so I locked it. He needs to send me a PGP signature or some other strong identity verification if he wants the password reset. I've exchanged emails with someone claiming to be him, but he hasn't sent me a PGP signature yet.

I condemn his tactics, but he has been very effective at exposing the LAPD's corruption and incompetence. He's better than the average madman at least.
