3661  Other / Off-topic / Re: What type of coding is used in sites like Satoshi Dice? on: May 30, 2013, 08:12:44 PM
Should I be learning PHP, python, or Java?

You can do that stuff with pretty much any programming language, though a dynamic language like PHP or Python will be easier.
3662  Other / Meta / Re: ([color=red]Forum warning: Possible phishing link![/color]) on: May 30, 2013, 06:45:59 PM
Actually, I'm just going to remove that warning and make it so:
- [url=https://bitcointalk.org]https://bitcointalk.org[/url] becomes https://bitcointalk.org
- [url=www.google.com]www.google.com[/url] becomes www.google.com
- [url=http://www.google.com]www.google.com[/url] becomes www.google.com
- [url=http://phishing.org]https://bitcointalk.org[/url] becomes https://bitcointalk.org
3663  Other / Meta / Re: ([color=red]Forum warning: Possible phishing link![/color]) on: May 30, 2013, 06:33:56 PM
I made it so [url=x]x[/url] doesn't trigger a warning if x is exactly the same in both places.
3664  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: FNIB: Violent opponent of free speech on: May 30, 2013, 05:34:04 PM
This has been removed too.

In the interest of free speech, I think they should be restored.

That's FNIB.CO, BTW.

Quote
Some self examination and maturity is really needed here, as well as moderation to enforce politeness and respect.

Members come to the forums to learn and ultimatley  increase their participation in the btc economy.  To the extent that more goods and services become available and people are aware of the possibilities, demand for btc grows and its value per dollar increases.  This should be obvious.

Everyone should be welcomed and encouraged at the forum unless they DO HARM to another.  Vetting has its proper place, but what happens here is not vetting; its hazing.  Abuse, hate, paranoia, attacks and an effort to drive a forum member into the dirt and discourage everybody from doing business in BTC with that member.

There is an almost pathalogical hate coming from a number of forum members who post frequently.  Just look at the responses to our last post for proof.   Hate was directed at us from foolish people who confuse opening their account with 100 btc as tantamount to GIVING US 100 btc and another ignorant, green  person who has no clue how trades are settled and thinks trading companies keep precious metals in vaults Smiley

In real life normal people would not dare go up to somebody and make the nasty remarks we ( FNIB ) always get on this forum from strangers who dont know a damn thing about our company or our industry.

These naysayers think they are smart by doing a WHOIS or other snooping in an attempt to find dirt, then post the results on the forum as if exposing some criminal plot.  Cut the B.S.  Enough.

Could it be thay these hecklers are wimps in person and the Internet is the only place they can go to act like tough guys without having the glasses smacked off their nerdy little faces and pencil necks?

We  www.fnib.co   are  the first forex company to accept BTC.  If you cant give us any respect for this, or at least the courtesy that ANY human being deserves, what does that say about bitcoin proponents active on this forum?

Check your attitude and clean up these boards.  The fact that you are in a shitty mood, cant get laid or just got up on the wrong side of the bed does not give you a license to scandalize somebody's name.

Ok, respectful. Would you be able to confirm, the quoted post in the PDF is worded the same as what was removed? I'm just trying to confirm, FNIB PDF post quote statement vs wordly's removed post. I am guessing things could be added or subtracted in the PDF.

They are accurate quotes.
3665  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: FNIB: Violent opponent of free speech on: May 30, 2013, 05:15:57 PM
I probably have the original post backed up somewhere, but I don't want to post it if worldly wanted it gone.
3666  Economy / Auctions / Advertise on this forum - Round 84 on: May 30, 2013, 05:01:34 PM
In order to collect more money for the creation of good forum software and for other useful purposes, the forum is selling ad space in the area beneath the first post of every topic page.

Ads are allowed to contain any non-annoying HTML/CSS style. No images, JavaScript, or animation (no marquee or blinking). Ads must appear 3 or fewer lines tall in my browser. Ads will be prefixed with "Advertisement:". Ad text may not contain lies, misrepresentation, or inappropriate language. Ads may not link directly to any NSFW page. Ads may be rejected for other reasons.

There are 10 total ad slots which are randomly rotated. So one ad slot has a one in ten chance of appearing. Seven of the slots are for sale here. Ads appear only on topic pages with more than one post, and only for people using the default theme.

The ad lasts at least 7 days starting from when I put it up. (However, if you look at the ad history you'll see that ads frequently get 1-2 extra days, but this is random and definitely not guaranteed.)

Stats

Exact historical impression counts per slot:
https://bitcointalk.org/adrotate.php?adstats

Info about the current ad slots:
https://bitcointalk.org/adrotate.php?adinfo

Ad blocking

Hero members, Donators, VIPs, and moderators have the ability to disable ads. I don't expect many people to use this option. These people don't increase the impression counts for your ads.

I try to bypass Adblock Plus filters as much as possible, though this is not guaranteed. It is difficult or impossible for ABP filters to block the ad space itself without blocking posts. However, filters can match against the URLs in your links, your CSS classes and style attributes, and the HTML structure of your ads.

To prevent matches against URLs: I have some JavaScript which fixes links blocked by ABP. You must tell me if you want this for your ads. When someone with ABP and JavaScript enabled views your ads, your links are changed to a special randomized bitcointalk.org URL which redirects to your site when visited. People without ABP are unaffected, even if they don't have JavaScript enabled. The downsides are:
- ABP users will see the redirection link when they hover over the link, even if they disable ABP for the forum.
- Getting referral stats might become even more difficult.
- Some users might get a warning when redirecting from https to http.

To prevent matching on CSS classes/styles: Don't use inline CSS. I can give your ad a CSS class that is randomized on each pageload, but you must request this.

To prevent matching against your HTML structure: Use only one <a> and no other tags if possible. If your ads get blocked because of matching done on something inside of your ad, you are responsible for noticing this and giving me new ad HTML.

Auction rules

Post your bids in this thread. Prices must be stated in BTC per slot. You must state the max number of slots you want. When the auction ends, the highest bidders will have their slots filled until all seven slots are filled.

So if someone bids for 7 slots @ 5 BTC and this is the highest bid, then he'll get all 7 slots. If the two highest bids are 7 slots @ 4 BTC and 1 slot @ 5 BTC, then the first person will get 6 slots and the second person will get 1 slot.

The notation "2 @ 5" means 2 slots for 5 BTC each. Not 2 slots for 5 BTC total.

- When you post a bid, the bids in your previous posts are considered to be automatically canceled. You can put multiple bids in one post, however.
- All bid prices must be evenly divisible by 0.25.
- The bidding starts at 0.50.
- I will end the auction at an arbitrary time no more than 12 days from now. (I will probably end the auction 1-3 days before the ads are scheduled to go up.)
- If two people bid at the same price, the person who bid first will have his slots filled first.
- Bids are considered invalid and will be ignored if they do not specify both a price and a max quantity, or if they could not possibly win any slots

If these rules are confusing, look at some of the past forum ad auctions to see how it's done. I also post periodic status updates which should help make things clear.

You must pay for your slots within 24 hours of receiving the payment address. Otherwise your slots may be sold to someone else.

3668  Other / Meta / Re: Automated PGP PMs in forum on: May 30, 2013, 03:14:02 PM
The forum doesn't need to decrypt the messages. The PM send page could have a JS PGP encrypt function, if a user has set a keyid in their profile. It would be up to the receiver to decrypt the messages themselves.

The hard part has already being done: http://www.hanewin.net/encrypt/

You still need a browser addon to prevent the forum from changing its JS to read your messages or steal your private key.

Instead of integrating PGP into sites, the proper solution IMO is to improve PGP's browser (or OS) integration so that it can be easily used on all sites regardless of whether they know about PGP.
3669  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk session management on: May 30, 2013, 03:12:17 PM
All other sessions are destroyed when you log in. There can only be one active session at a time.
3670  Other / Meta / Re: Automated PGP PMs in forum on: May 30, 2013, 12:20:15 AM
It can't be done without a browser addon unless you want the forum to have your private key.
3671  Economy / Scam Accusations / FNIB: Violent opponent of free speech on: May 29, 2013, 08:03:07 PM
Private Internet Access (sponsor of the forum's hosting), Sirius, and others received a takedown notice from FNIB.CO (First National Innovation Brokers).

It demands the removal of this topic. I assume (but I'm not sure) that the person who started that topic was sent similar threats which convinced him to blank his topic. But I'm not going to let FNIB get away with their suppression of legitimate discussion: This topic will not be taken down.

It tells you what kind of company FNIB is that they would threaten violence (via police) in order to censor critics. Clearly they are incapable of any intellectual defense of their practices if they need to resort to threats. I would certainly never trust my money with FNIB.

This forum exists to provide a platform for free discussion. I will not tolerate censorship. Private Internet Access also takes a strong stance against censorship. It's impressive that Private Internet Access and their partners were able to ignore these takedown notices. A lot of ISPs will take stuff down at the first sign of legal trouble.

Hopefully this topic will hurt FNIB more than their threats helped them. You can't behave like a thug and get away with it forever...
3672  Other / Meta / Re: The last posting from your IP was less than 64 seconds ago. Please try again... on: May 29, 2013, 12:08:47 AM
if it's searching, type into google:
site:bitcointalk.org your search term

no time restrictions and more relevant results.

There's a better Google search method on the search page.

Ah, you changed your theme from the default. I fixed it for you.

I will add this.
3675  Other / Meta / Re: My account was hacked on: May 28, 2013, 02:33:27 AM
It can't be proven that this account was hacked, but it seems especially likely in this case.

Can hacker now use my account if he not pressed "logout" button?

Not after you've logged in.
3676  Other / Meta / Re: forum image links broken after logging in on: May 28, 2013, 02:10:53 AM
What happens when you try visiting the links directly. Like:
https://bitcointalk.org/Themes/custom1/images/on.gif

Interestingly this issue occurs with Opera 12.15 on multiple operating systems, as well as IE 8 on windows XP. It does not occur when using Firefox on both Windows and Linux however.

Based on this, my first guess is that it has something to do with SSL. Firefox handles SSL natively -- all other browsers rely on Windows' SSL handling.
3677  Economy / Scam Accusations / Probable malicious site: bitcoin-address.org on: May 28, 2013, 02:09:17 AM
Bitcoin-address.org was being spammed by JayKEy00. It's malicious, right?
3678  Other / Meta / Re: forum image links broken after logging in on: May 28, 2013, 01:56:27 AM
I recently added some JavaScript, though I don't see how that script could cause this. Does it happen when you disable JavaScript?
3679  Other / Meta / Re: Adblock Plus censoring posts on: May 27, 2013, 08:22:36 PM
Just to let you know, the
Code:
Sponsored by Private Internet Access, a Bitcoin-accepting VPN.
at the bottom of the page can still be blocked with element hider with noscript enabled or not.

That's fine.
3680  Other / Meta / Re: Minor change in Bitcointalk profiles inside a topic on: May 27, 2013, 07:55:55 PM
Maybe a consistency score would be better. Like # of weeks in which you have at least one post.
