4161  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for someone to create/modify software for this forum [3600+ BTC] on: January 24, 2013, 11:08:07 PM
Would you allow a Super-admin (one single person) with "full privileges", combined with "No user group (including any other admins) should be able to run arbitrary code" ?

I'd definitely prefer that it be impossible to run arbitrary code from the Web interface.

2) If you accept a detailed bid that includes an impressive, partially finished demo site, then is a BTC down payment of ~25 to 33% possible, to provide income while the project is finished?

If the code is available, I could pay by milestone. 25% seems like too much.
4162  Other / Off-topic / /r/Bitcoin stats on: January 24, 2013, 09:12:11 PM
Someone requested that I post the /r/Bitcoin stats. Here they are in Reddit's JSON format so that you can create your own graphs:
http://pastebin.com/6kbMAAR3

The numbers in each array are, in order:
-Unix timestamp representing a day/hour/month
-Uniques
-Pageviews
-Subscriptions (omitted on time periods other than "day")
4163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin adress login system on: January 24, 2013, 04:28:45 PM
Browsers can already do this sort of thing with TLS client authentication (though this system could be improved). Using Bitcoin for authentication is an unnecessary extra layer of complexity.
4164  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: CryptoXChange on: January 23, 2013, 11:43:30 PM
It's never a good sign when theymos peeks outside his "caverne" and starts a thread in Scam Accusations.  Wink

That's what I was thinking. Must be serious if the admin is bringing it up.

Someone asked me about CryptoXChange, but I was unsatisfied with the existing threads, so I created this one. I don't consider this case to be much more important than others.

I never used CryptoXChange, so the fact that I created this topic should not be seen as testimony against them.

Who is owed money by CryptoXChange? Did anyone get paid back?

Any reason not to scammer-tag him?

If you have a claim against Matthew N. Wright, you should contact him ASAP. If he does not recognize your claim, you should post about it publicly so that the issue can be sorted out.

        Other alternative clients

?

4173  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Why hasn't witcoin been replaced yet? on: January 21, 2013, 06:45:00 AM
I was just thinking about witcoin. It was a great idea. Profitable, too, IIRC. I was the one who came up with the "pyramid scheme" payment idea that witcoin had, so I "received" a small percentage of site profits (lost when witcoin went down, though).

The witcoin code was at one time available on a git repository that several people had access to. I had access, but I unfortunately don't have the files anymore. You could ask tcatm or ducki2p.

mizery wrote an amazing amount of pretty high-quality code for witcoin. It's so sad how he lost his sanity... At his level of productivity, he could have been one of the richest bitcoiners around.
4174  Local / עברית (Hebrew) / Re: הציגו את עצמכם on: January 21, 2013, 06:39:21 AM

The text direction stuff should be OK now. In order to fix this, I needed to force users of this section to use the default theme. So if you change your theme, you will not see your changes here.

[Mod note: Took the liberty of editing theymos' machine-translated text.]

Has the original post been updated lately? I would think that BTC10 pays for more than one month of hosting at the current rates.

Prices weren't much lower than the current rate when I made the topic, though hosting is now provided for free by MtGox. The forum is definitely self-sustaining now.

The money rarely gets spent. Here are all of the expenses:
Code:
-25 hosting 2011-09-02
-10 error auth job 2012-06-18
-30 error auth job 2012-07-10
-1.54 RapidSSL 2012-07-10

You can calculate the forum's current holdings by subtracting the expenses from the total received BTC at 17RTTU... This money just sits, mostly at the cold storage address.

It's a lot of money. I'd really like to get the forum software project moving. I'd hoped that someone really trustworthy would step up and offer to manage the thing. A lot of profit could be made I think, but I guess no one sufficiently trustworthy wants to do it. There were many offers to do the programming, but they were all by people who I didn't really know, and I'm not at all confident in my ability to hire good people for this kind of thing. I've been working a bit on developing a solid core myself this winter break. If I finish that, I'd be able to offer many smaller bounties for less critical sections of the project.

I was also thinking of using some of the the money to hire a lawyer to make sure the forum is protected in every way possible.
4178  Economy / Goods / Re: Response to locked thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=137140.0;topi on: January 20, 2013, 06:41:19 AM
First of all, its interesting you locked the thread.

I locked it because he had many duplicate topics. He's also banned (temporarily) for this.

I left this instance of the topic open:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=137131.0

I agree that it seems very suspicious, especially since siesatsu is a new user and he was spamming his charity all over the forum.
4179  Economy / Auctions / Advertise on this forum - Round 68 on: January 20, 2013, 06:35:10 AM
In order to collect more money for the creation of good forum software, the forum is selling ad space in the area beneath the first post of every topic page.

Ads are allowed to contain any non-annoying HTML/CSS style. No images, JavaScript, or animation (no marquee or blinking). Ads must appear 3 or fewer lines tall in my browser. Ads will be prefixed with "Advertisement:". Ad text may not contain lies, misrepresentation, or inappropriate language. Ads may not link directly to any NSFW page. Ads may be rejected for other reasons.

There are 10 total ad slots which are randomly rotated. So one ad slot has a one in ten chance of appearing. Eight of the slots are for sale here. Ads appear only on topic pages with more than one post, and only for people using the default theme.

The ad lasts 7 days starting from when I put it up.

Stats

Exact historical impression counts per slot:

Auction rules

Post your bids in this thread. Prices must be stated in BTC per slot. You must state the max number of slots you want. When the auction ends, the highest bidders will have their slots filled until all eight slots are filled.

So if someone bids for 8 slots @ 5 BTC and this is the highest bid, then he'll get all 8 slots. If the two highest bids are 8 slots @ 4 BTC and 1 slot @ 5 BTC, then the first person will get 7 slots and the second person will get 1 slot.

The notation "2 @ 5" means 2 slots for 5 BTC each. Not 2 slots for 5 BTC total.

- When you post a bid, the bids in your previous posts are considered to be automatically canceled. You can put multiple bids in one post, however.
- All bid prices must be evenly divisible by 0.25.
- The bidding starts at 0.5.
- I will end the auction at an arbitrary time no more than 12 days from now. (I will probably end the auction 1-3 days before the ads are scheduled to go up.)
- If two people bid at the same price, the person who bid first will have his slots filled first.
- Bids are considered invalid and will be ignored if they do not specify both a price and a max quantity, or if they could not possibly win any slots

If these rules are confusing, look at some of the past forum ad auctions to see how it's done. I also post periodic status updates which should help make things clear.

You must pay for your slots within 24 hours of receiving the payment address. Otherwise your slots may be sold to someone else.
