Last night Huffington Post Live did a video segment on Bitcoin. BitInstant's Roger Ver and CoinBase's Brian Armstrong were there to reprazent. Also, the "Austrian" Neils Van Der Linden (famous for last year's "Don't Buy Bitcoin") YouTube video was there to demonstrate his lack of understanding regarding Mises' Regression Theorem (he doesn't yet know that he doesn't know what he's talking about). What does anyone stand to gain by "defeating pirate"? I will be doing exactly as you indicated, but without regard for who's money I take. We should all try to do this. It will flatten the fluctuations, and lead to a quick recovery. The only reason the market has not risen is expectation of another drop. We will rebound from this. This isn't last year's BTC.
True, we are all trading against each other. There will be winners and losers in this game and I don't want to be a loser. If pirate is winning it is plausible that many are losing. Let's balance the force. |

Buy low and sell high. It is as simple as that. Pirate wants you to buy high and sell low and will take your money and or bitcoins. Have a reserve of USD readily available on Mt. Gox. When the price drops then buy bitcoins on dips. When bitpay did this a few weeks ago pirate was not too happy. Always have USD (or the currency of your choice) available and when the time comes don't panic, think smart, and try to cost average your purchases if you have too. Here is what they said: Pirate likes to buy high and sell low, with other people's money.
if you buy at 8.00 or below, and sell at 9.00 or above, you can make money trading against pirate too. I've done that x6000 coins this week, earning me about a 25% return on my investment trading against pirate.
The biggest buy I made was 3200 BTC below 8 the first time pirate pushed it down there, and bragged that he had the 8.00 ask wall. I sold all of those coins over $9.00 within 24 hours.

pirate has not paid anyone back yet. Which means he may be planning another big move to drop prices further. I'm positioned to buy more bitcoins when this happens.

Why would you buy bitcoins for a fee so you could sell them for fee? That's ridiculous. Literally throwing money away. The debit cards (not credit) will be for merchant and miners who have bitcoin income and would like an easy way to convert to fiat. The people doing what you mention would be very low because it makes no sense to do that.
I had a feeling you would ask that. Well, I believe in bitcoins so I'm just doing my part to support the bitcoin economy. Also, I am betting that bitcoins will increase in value so if I buy early then the fees will be negligible. If the value of bitcoins go up 1% then I'm covered. |

Suppose my credit card bill is around $1000 a month. That means if I get a BitInstant Credit Card I will be buying $1000 worth of bitcoins a month.
If 1000 people have the same amount of credit card bills and use the same credit card then that's $100,000 added to the bitcoin economy a month. That's $1,200,000 a year. Imagine if 10,000 use the card or 100,000. That's a lot of money.
Could this make the price of bitcoin skyrocket? Maybe. Bitinstant will probably convert the bitcoins to dollars when a purchase is made.
Most likely, this could further stabilize bitcoin prices but I imagine it may make bitcoin prices go up. I am thinking about loading up a significant amount of bitcoins in preparation for this card. But them coins when its cheap.

where is the logic in this? he could have also been buying as the price crawled back up. My logic is this (whether flawed or not.) pirate was asking for more bitcoins. pirate would only ask for more bitcoins if he needed more to remain profitable. If he has USD and bought as the price was going up he would have bought for a loss (since his strategy is to short bitcoins). He needs to bring the price down so he can buy more bitcoins and return the bitcoins to his investors. But if his attempt of creating a panic sell fails then he won't be able to buy more coins back without a loss. |

there's one more reason neither of us have mentioned yet about the pundits; there is a huge vested interest in not acknowledging something that threatens their existing positions.
Yeah. I was talking to someone this morning and recounting a story about a few of our mutual friends, who both run money out of NYC, who I introduced to Bitcoin. I let him know that if they had put $25k in then today it would be worth about $7.5m. For whatever reason they missed the boat, bad. The boat has not sailed yet and there is still time to get on. This boat is like the boat in Lord of the Rings, Return of the King when near the end of the movie it takes a really long time to depart. All aboard! Bitcoin to $100.  |

pirate did not mention at all the rising price of bitcoin which made it difficult for him to get returns. That is probably the reason why he had to close shop.
