Worst first post ever.
Casascius has been around since just about the dawn of Bitcoin. AFAIK, there have been exactly 0 accusations of him keeping and using coin privkeys (keeping in mind Goat, one of the most temperamental Bitcoin users of significant public awareness, has had thousands of bitcoins in Cas coins).
I like Casascius and everything but I don't really agree with this assessment. He could have kept all the keys, waiting for the coins to be valuable enough to steal everything. Right now there are tens of millions of dollars worth of his coins; few people have the integrity to walk away from such amounts, and past performance (in this case, Casascius' good form so far) is not an indication of future results. If he kept the keys, he has much more to gain by stealing everything than to lose. Of course, this threat model is still much better than if he could make the decision to keep keys retroactively. I don't disagree with the principles of what you're saying. It's just... I don't see Mike running off with $100M in stolen bitcoins (but as you know, I've been wrong before, though I've never had the level of confidence like with Cas). I'm pretty sure he's rational. It's not something where he can just say "oh, it was uhhh... a relic hunter who was spying on the manufacture of the coins." He's a criminal from the moment someone discovers coins are missing, and the amount he'd have access to would almost definitely draw international cooperation from law enforcement. Beyond that, he's been a long-time supporter of Bitcoin, and I'd be very surprised if he didn't have a good few heavily-loaded, legitimately-obtained coins for himself. I guess I don't know, though. Maybe he does a hundred lines of cocaine a day and is really motivated to get coins by whatever means necessary. (can't wait to see his response to this thread) (in looking up info for response, it turns out Mike suspended operations a couple days ago. https://www.casascius.com/ ) Sure, I don't expect any problem... But the risk exists. I hope he'll resume soon, at least for aluminum coins, they're really popular here.

I would completely agree that the Bitcoin core dev team likely do have more structure and rigorousness applied, but that's a project (worth multiple billions) that has had ~5 years to get to this point - I believe a startup phase looks different but that's just my view. Actually, no: Satoshi released a complete version of a client, and Bitcoin developers were always reluctant to change things which can affect consensus. Almost no features were added to the protocol in these 5 years. If anything, many features were disabled. I actually didn't know Satoshi released a complete client along with the white paper - I thought (assumed) that came later. I wasn't around for the beginning of the cryptocurrency revolution sadly! It's true (and doesn't seem to contradict what killerstorm said) - Satoshi released the whitepaper in October 2008, and then the client in January 2009. But other than a few comments nobody actually did anything with the whitepaper.

it seems that the colored coin project is dead.
Not remotely.

Nope, XBT is confusing as hell; the last thing we need is a name change.
Why isn't USD, XUS? Or GBP XGB?
ISO or not, BTC is the right three letter abbreviation for the currency.
USD is issued by the US. GBP is issued by GB. Bitcoin is not issued by Bhutan. That said see my comment above, XBT will be the ISO code but I believe BTC will still be used.

It's a known problem. Or at least, I know this transaction (from Nov 2) hasn't confirmed, I didn't know you get repeat notifications about it. The API call to blockchain.info that I used so far used their default fee, which apparently isn't sufficient for this transaction. I've since started paying a higher fee. If the tx doesn't confirm I'll send another tx for the payment, and I hope the unconfirmed one will be forgotten eventually.

Against. We should use mBTC now.

Yes. I think it's currently not at the location though. (If you want I can ask to have it brought). Later we'll put a Lamassu device.
