421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin price down making atleast some people's dream come true. on: February 10, 2018, 04:13:43 PM
I think you’re right but I’ve never understood why holding one whole bitcoin is so important to people. Fractions of a whole bitcoin is still owning bitcoin. People don’t seem to have this psychological need to hold one pound of gold, they’re satisfied with owning a few ounces.
422  Other / Off-topic / Re: Merit System Upgrade on: February 10, 2018, 03:15:35 PM

You’re the most fascinating person to come to this thread yet. Your name is hugeblack but you’re from Dubai. You advertise your own service to make custom signature ads for campaign managers but your signature also links grue’s thread for his Signature Adblock Script. You're a true bitcoin supporter and a goldbug but you go to the altcoin section to sell them stuff for bitcoin. I think you’re bitcointalk’s first true schizophrenic. LOL

More than enough of your posts have attempted to be helpful to others and deserving of merit. 20 merit points awarded.
423  Other / Off-topic / Re: Merit System Upgrade on: February 10, 2018, 02:39:45 PM
I don’t have much Merit to give but I’m going to give it up until it’s all gone. I’m not sure if this is the right section for this thread because I’m not really selling anything. It’s about accounts so I’ll just leave it here until someone decides to move it. I don’t know if this is wrong to do. I don’t care if I get negative trust for doing this because I don’t buy anything here, sell anything here, join signature campaigns or post routinely in threads that even show the trust rating. Essentially I don’t make money here so I don’t use trust anyway.

I felt sorry for SOME of the members that posted in the merit thread. They seemed to be fairly articulate, fairly knowledgeable, rational and really trying to be members of this group of dreamers (community).

Here’s how it’s going to work. You’re not just going to beg for merit and I give it. Do not PM me and offer to pay me for merit points. Your money means nothing to me. I have given away more bitcoin than you will likely earn while on this forum (just ask Gleb Gamow if you don’t believe me). I will report you to a mod that will give you negative trust for being a potential scammer. You will ask me to research your post history and direct me to 10-20 posts that you believe show you have a deep desire to learn about, use, and support bitcoin. I will then ask you a couple of questions about how bitcoin works and you will answer them. I don’t care if you take some time to research the answer if you come up with the correct answer. That just means I’ve made you learn more about bitcoin than you knew previously.

Bitcoin does not mean altcoin. I know altcoins are more popular on this forum than bitcoin. I don’t care. I will only help bitcoiners level up. If most of your post history is in altcoin threads I won’t help you. I do not consider Bitcoin Cash to be bitcoin. If you don’t know what the real bitcoin is then you haven’t been here long enough for me to help you. Which leads me to the group I’m willing to help.

New members, Newbies, Jr Members and Members don’t need any merit. They don’t have enough post history to judge so I won’t be helping them.

Full members, Sr. Members and Hero Members really got screwed with the merit system. Some of them were really close to leveling up and now have to wait until they’ve impressed the right person to probably get only one merit point from them. The most extreme case of this is Hero Member. They may need hundreds of merit points to level up which could take a very long time to get.

You will be working for 20 merit points. Good luck to all. I will announce when they’re gone and lock the thread.

I will no longer be responding to off-topic posts in this thread. If you fail to get a response from me you can reread this post to find out why.

Hi sir, I would like to apply, as you can see i was just days away from becoming a hero member, and I'm running a service for those who're yet to earn their first merit, i feel not all know where they're wrong and if given proper guidence they'll improve their post thus achieving main objective of merits.I have always belived in bitcoins and have got my friends and family into it, I'm here for two reasons one to earn merits if they pass your test and pass them back to the community, secondly i am intrigued about what questions you have in mind, knowledge is always welcome.

424  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US Gov gives cryptocurrency the green light - markets respond with an $83 billio on: February 09, 2018, 09:15:42 PM
Why would the US government restrict crypto when they’re absorbing it as fast as they can. I think Wall Street believes they invented bitcoin now.

Besides, the Fascist States of America already has so many restrictive laws governing money flow that they don’t need new ones to control crypto. You can’t win money at a race track and deposit it into your bank account without your bank secretly sending a report on you to the federal government. And, when the government finds out about your winnings they have their hand out waiting for their cut of the money. The US is running the largest “protection racket” in the entire world.

Cryptocurrency only involves government when you exchange it for fiat. They don’t care if you trade pogs or Pokémon cards which is all cryptocurrency is before you exchange it.

not sure about that. congress has officially squashed any hopes that "like-kind exchanges" apply to cryptocurrency when they passed the new tax overhaul. so, the official IRS position is that they do care about all of our crypto-to-crypto trades before exchanging it for fiat money. each trade has a gain/loss that goes towards your net.

in fact, i'm pretty sure that trading pogs or Pokémon cards is covered too. Tongue

but how can they really enforce this?

No, what you’re talking about is called a 1031 exchange. That law has been on the books for decades. The IRS did just recently change the 1031 exchange law but it had nothing to do with cryptocurrency.  Instead of being for all assets the 1031 exchange law is now only used for real estate.  Previously under the 1031 law like kind exchanges were all subject to taxation. With the new law bitcoin may actually be exempt from that kind of taxation. Regardless, as I stated above, the US doesn’t need new laws for bitcoin they could just use the existing laws.

It wouldn’t surprise me a bit to find out they want to arrest my daughter for trading in Pokémon cards. A 5-year-old girl in Porterville, Calif., received a $200 citation in late October for operating a lemonade stand without a license.

Great Idea,

if this thread is still active, I would also definitely appreciate some merit. I post both for Bitcoin and select Alt-Coins.

All the Best

You have a few really good posts but your primarily a bounty hunter and an altcoin person. Those are both of the categories that I don’t help. The quality of your posts will eventually gain you some merit from someone in the altcoin section. If you begin paying as much attention to discussions as you do twitter campaigns you should have no problem ranking up. I’m sorry I couldn’t help you. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi QuestionAuthority. I'm in fact a derivatives trader, and entered crypto trading in 2016 (including BTC obviously), and I've been increasing my allocations to cryptos ever since because it's proven to be the most profitable venture in the history of mankind, objectively Smiley

And don't discount bounty hunting, you can end up making millions of dollars for one month's work, and if you help out a project with intrinsic value in the meantime, wouldn't you agree it's a win-win. In any case it would be pleasure to receive some merit from an intellectual with great attitude such as yourself, so looking forward to it bro.

All the Best,
Vispilio

I’m sorry you just don’t qualify according to the rules of the thread. My primary motivation for starting this thread is to help bitcoiners that are mainly here to learn, share their knowledge, help others learn by discussing ideas and truly participate in discussions, essentially to add value to the forum. I relooked at your posts and simply don’t see that as a characteristic of your posts thus far. You can, of course, change that if you choose to.

Best of luck
426  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin really too volatile to be a useful currency? on: February 09, 2018, 05:12:38 AM
Volatility isn’t really a problem because companies like BitPay remove the risk.

From BitPay’s website:

Quote
Accept bitcoin payments for your business

Use BitPay's retail, ecommerce, billing, and donation tools to accept payments from customers anywhere on earth.

Receive settlement for bitcoin payments directly to your bank account in your own currency, with zero price volatility or risk.

Your customer chooses to pay with bitcoin during the checkout process.
They pay the BitPay invoice at a locked-in exchange rate.
BitPay instantly converts the bitcoin, shielding you from any volatility risk.
You get direct deposits into your bank account.

That’s the reason I’ve said for a very long time that there are no businesses really accepting bitcoin. Businesses accept fiat just as they always have, BitPay accepts bitcoin.

Thank you for taking care of those who are not so lucky to get the rank under the old rules. I will not hide, at first the main purpose of registration on this forum was bounty. But the longer I was on the forum, the more I plunged into the topic of the crypto-future. At the beginning of the message were written exclusively on the "contract." But the longer I stayed at the forum, the more attention was paid to the topics and content of the posts. I try to stick to the picture as necessary. Some make out in PhotoShop. Now I regularly look at the forum in search of answers to my posts. Well, in the real world you do not discuss these questions with anyone, and it's difficult to make friends in this topic. It seems that they refuse to think with their heads. Now this forum has become a part of me))) I do not know, you will consider my account, thank you for your kindness in any case)

*snip*

I do not know why, but the picture chose this one, it is proportional to the associations)))

Thank you for the sentiment. That’s very nice of you to say. That makes me particularly sorry that I can’t help you based on your post history. I’m sure you will advance in rank if you keep to the outline you described in your post. Thanks for stopping by.
428  Other / Off-topic / Re: Merit System Upgrade on: February 08, 2018, 08:39:47 PM

Does that mean you're applying for merit?
I like altcoins because i can exchange these for bitcoins. Merit system may work great for quality as people said. But the Merit distribution could have been a little more fair. Rank is important for the signature bounty only. The users who like blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies can find other bounty solutions like blog articles.

I appreciate your viewpoint but posting in this thread means you're applying for merit. Any other post is off-topic. I don’t want people to start debating the value of merit in this thread. There are plenty of threads in the meta section for that.

Thanks
429  Other / Off-topic / Re: Merit System Upgrade on: February 08, 2018, 05:49:50 PM
a good idea to help. I need to use it correctly when I get the merit. important to raise your rank. many people are not sending. it's really good to do something like that. Thanks

I think the system is just too new for people to have the habit of using merit yet. In time, people will get used to it and it will become second nature. Unfortunately, you fall into several categories that I can’t help. I don’t understand any Turkish and you’re just too new here for you to have really started participating. I don’t help Member and below because there just isn’t enough post history to evaluate but thanks for stopping by.

I am also almost exclusively following the Wall Observer thread. It is my first source for Bitcoin related news and sentiment. Besides, there are bits of interesting technical discussion at times, and of course a good 60% of totally irrelevant noise. I often wish I had more sMerit to give out.

I think it’s almost impossible to hang out in Adam’s thread without learning a lot about bitcoin. While the discussions are usually obnoxious and strange, bordering on perverse, they are also filled with information about every aspect of the bitcoin economy. That’s because those people are attempting to suss out the next micro move of the usd/btc exchange rate. That kind of in-depth discussion creates an immense background noise of knowledge (and perversion).

You are definitely participating and have a good foundation in crypto knowledge. You definitely aren’t a bounty hunter only here to make money and you are not even a signature spammer.  20 merit awarded.
432  Other / Off-topic / Re: Merit System Upgrade on: February 08, 2018, 03:52:39 PM
I don't quite think my own posts qualify for your offer, though you're welcome to browse through obviously and encourage me to do the work if you consider me worthy.
Mostly I post in the infamous Wall Observer thread, and this community within a community is pretty short of merit, despite some excellent posts.
Newbies come to learn about trading, end up learning all sorts of other things, including bitcoin. Fud is rugby-tackled to the ground. Shitcoin shills are laughed off the park. All sorts of good stuff.
So will mention your thread over there, and may God have mercy on your soul.

It doesn’t matter what section you post in because I’m judging the persons involvement in the discussion, not the topic. Please don’t mention this in adamstgBit‘s thread. That’s too much disruption for this thread.

I looked at your post history and my eyes are bleeding. I haven’t seen that many memes since this forum was full of Bronys. You have some pretty good posts, your very knowledgeable and definitely participating.

I just have one question for you. You have a little negative trust involving OgNasty. Can you explain that to me?

Whoops I already have. The post didn't get much traction, I guess as there was a lot else going on. I've deleted it now and hope it won't disrupt you here too much.

Thanks for the feedback. I admit I can be somewhat 'over-visual' or 'under-literate' or just 'lazy'.

OgNasty's trust comments read: "Stating that NastyFans (a transparent and provably honest organization) is a scam. Pathetic slander. Do not trust those who go out of their way to spread lies".

I called him out a few times, sometimes with some minor trolling, and sometimes 'going out of my way' (to protect newbies), on those very points of transparency and provability. He has not published accounts.

He took in more btc than he made for people, even after it was clear - maybe during 2013 - that mining at that level was not a profitable investment. He obfuscates his business by hiding behind a fan club.

I am not 'lying', but I might be mistaken. The only way to know if I am wrong about him is if he were to publish his accounts strictly in btc terms. (He gives odd irrelevant dollar prices for odd years sometimes).

If he was transparent and I was wrong, I'd admit it and apologise. If he made his investors whole again in btc terms, he wouldn't be a scammer in my judgment, just untrustworthy.

Even theymos doesn't seem to think he's a financier any more, and rightly closed up shop pronto. Og can't see that he could similarly semi-recover from his errors.

Yeah, that’s kind of what I thought. I dug into it a little but couldn’t find anything substantial about you scamming anyone. I don’t see any risked btc so I’m going to award you 20 merit.
433  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do your think of Chairmen Chris Giancarlo on: February 08, 2018, 06:42:24 AM
He was nominated by Trump so he probably wants to grab America by the pussy and is a closet pervert. He supports crypto so he might like using crypto to purchase child porn on the hidden web. It’s really too early to form an opinion of him.

wtf am I reading?

Have you jumped to the conclusion that he's a paedophile just because he was nominated by Trump and knows a bit about cryptos?

No, I’m just a Trump hater. stompix has a good point though. Has Trump ever claimed he was a bitcoin supporter? He can grab America by the pussy all he wants if he is.

In the run up to his election, he sided with some Bitcoin supporters in his camp. I think some Bitcoin supporters made their own assumptions based on the fact that these guys were pro-Bitcoin. These politicians will suck off a guy who has leprosy for a few extra votes, so you cannot trust them.

Trump is so full of himself, he might even create his own TrumpCoin and replace the Dollar with that.

Chris Giancarlo looks genuine and I hope this gesture will give him some extra support, when he needs this in the future. I will follow him on Twitter, to see where this is going. ^smile^

I can see Trump supporting bitcoin for a few votes. It’s hard for me to believe he would really support bitcoin or even attempt to understand it. Trump is a 71 year old nut job New York real estate tycoon. I doubt he can operate a TV remote control. I can only imagine how mind boggling and difficult BitcoinQT would seem to Trump.

Giancarlo might be ok. Government officials and politicians are so fucking slimy that it’s hard for me to trust them even when they’re saying what I want them to say. They all have ulterior motives for everything they do or say. I really need to see them in action before I make a decision.

This is a great idea for merit distribution. I would like to see something like this on a larger scale where users can apply to have previous posts vetted and merit assigned (maybe on an information at the time basis). I've definitely read a number of posts that i feel should have got merit, however I do not have the power to show my appreciation, then looked at other posts by the user and see they have contributed without reward (especially as some posts are before the merit regime). Maybe this is something to be addressed by the 'merit sources', perhaps each member could get an allocation of SMerit to be given every month.

From what I understand, that’s exactly how the system is working. There are sources all over the forum giving out merit. Here’s how I’m working this thread. I’m vetting posts to see if they deserve merit. If I can find at least 4 posts that could reasonably receive 5 merit or 20+ that could reasonably receive 1 merit then I award 20 merit.

I agree, I think the merit system will work well. Thanks for your input.

439  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you manage your investment in bitcoin if price goes on decreasing? on: February 07, 2018, 05:39:55 PM
Bitcoin has two types of people using it right now. Speculators and investors.

Speculators fancy themselves as “market masters” that can predict short term movements and gleen profit from these moves.

Investors know nothing about speculative assets. They are hoping to get lucky and make some money on a long term rise in exchange rate. These people should buy some btc, put it on a paper wallet, throw it in a safe for 5 years and check the price in 5 years to see how lucky they were.

You sound like a member the second group so that’s what you should do.
