421  Other / Meta / Re: Can I Deal In TRUST RATINGS? on: December 29, 2013, 01:07:58 AM

I am not trying to cheat anyone. As you have mentioned yourself, buying and selling trust is trivial.  I would like it to be done publicly, just like the buying and selling of accounts.  Have you not suggested that it's better to have these things out in the open, so that naive users could learn that these things exist?

You can warn people without promoting it.  Once you start promoting it (or standing by and watching while it happens) you are then liable for what happens after that.
422  Other / Meta / Re: Can I Deal In TRUST RATINGS? on: December 28, 2013, 10:54:50 PM

You would have to be directly put in the DefaultTrust list by theymos himself to be at depth=1 though
Otherwise you'd be at depth>=2, so your own trusted users would be at depth>=3 in the DefaultTrust list, so people with original settings (DefaultTrust and depth<=2) wouldn't trust those

For newcomers, the trust system is useless for a number of reasons.  For one thing it depends on the trust of theymos and many people don't trust him.
423  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: FinCEN Ruling is in - Friendly to Miners on: December 28, 2013, 04:30:36 PM

Thank you for posting this link.

How do you feel this applies to Pools and group buys?

I want to hear the lawyers chime in.  It sounds to me like those things are contracts and not mining directly.  The Pool operator or group miner may be under the rules but most of them are outside the US.  In the end I don't think it will matter much because electricity and cooling will be cheaper in other parts of the world.  I don't understand all the details behind the exceptions they listed.

Why are you publishing stuff from months ago that has been discussed extensively before?

I don't know what you are talking about, you should read the link.  This was a ruling that as just released.  As pointed out the previous discussions were that miners had to register and FinCEN now ruled they did not have to register as long as they didn't fall into the exceptions.

426  Other / Meta / Re: Naive question about this forum on: December 27, 2013, 06:28:20 AM
As you can see from the responses there are many people on here who confuse a libertarian view with people who use Libertarian ideas as an excuse to engage in criminal activity.  They also try to rationalize obviously ridiculous behavior.  These irresponsible people damage the value and reputation of Bitcoin but the technical idea is probably good enough to survive these things.
427  Other / Meta / Re: Naive question about this forum on: December 27, 2013, 05:06:19 AM
A FORUM is just a place people go to talk and be heard. We exchange ideas and information. We are free to walk away at any time, and this forum doesn't record any personal data unless we want it to. It does not have a direct effect on our Bitcoin or our other assets.

All the scams and scammers on here have a direct effect on Bitcoin.  There have been many reports to law enforcement about the people involved in running this forum and it gets mentioned in some serious criminal cases.  Many people have lost money who have participated in this forum and who have answered the ads run by the forum administrators.

Always looking for a good deal on Bitcoin web sites, domains, scripts. widgets, etc.

I normally do fixed price so if it is a "make an offer" thing I normally skip over it.

I am selling a non-working Avalon 4-module unit.  It was hashing at 112 GHs overclocked.  It stopped working and the red light came on.  I believe the power supply blew.

I tried another power supply (1200 W) that was not on the recommended list but I could not get it to work.  I suspect it is the power supply configuration but I am not sure.  With the electricity costs here in NJ it is reaching the limit of profitability based on electricity use and I don't have time to fool with it so I am selling as-is.

The unit is near Atlantic City, NJ. I will take offers.  Local pickup is preferred but I can ship.  I am pretty sure the power supply is blown so I will ship without the power supply.

Bitcoin is worse than fiat, as it is nothing and nobody guarantees me that nothing will be exchanged for something like the US government does with paper dollars.

The decision is whether you want a small number of politicians or bankers controlling things or whether you want that control to be "crowd-sourced."  I think it remains to be seen which is better or worse and since both systems will probably exist for a long time it is a matter of choice and diversity.
433  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: When I stop my miner to game, my confirmed rewards are still in effect? on: December 10, 2013, 01:27:06 AM
yes, and your unconfirmed rewards should also be paid after 100 blocks from the original reward.

You are willing to give up your water for BitCoin?  Wow!  Just flushed a couple of times for free...  Send me your BC.

Well I cant even flush bitcoin down the toilet. So I give you water that you can drink and flush down the toilet.

You give me a Bitcoin which is a fancy word for nothing.

def Bitcoin: Nothing that I can transfer at a cost.

Correct.  When you think about it the same thing applies to all forms of money since humans started using money.  Once you realize that most of the objections to Bitcoin disappear.
