4261  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anybody left your day job for bitcoin? on: July 04, 2014, 06:27:40 AM
May surprise you guys or not but I've only ever been unemployed, sure it would be nice if I could get a part time job but right now I'm fully devoted to building up my two businesses, since I think I will have a much better chance than searching around for a job forever only to be paid minimum wage.

If things go to hell it may be worth getting a part time job since I can drive now but so far it's all gone a lot better than I expected.
4262  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you really earn more money because you went to college? on: July 03, 2014, 09:54:15 PM
Yeah, that kind of thinking is incredibly biased and saying someone not wanting to get a degree is just trying to get out of studying is pretty insulting to people who study independently and in fact learn more and better that way.

People that go to college are in average brighter, harder working, more ambitious and for more affluante families and they are meant to make more money (as a group) than people that don't go to college

I chose to stay unemployed and and not work to get into university/college so I could build my business from essentially nothing and getting educated in two subjects, technically three, Jewellery Making, Gemstone Setting and Artwork all for the price of what would be considered a university degree essentially, I sincerely doubt I would be able to get the kind of one to one education I am getting now where I am than if I went to university and took one of the same subjects.

I'd like to see a link to this Federal Reserve 'study' looks to me like more of the same kind of bullshit mathematics and research I am used to when looking at politics which is all this is about.

p.s. You guys may have noticed my thread hasn't been updating awhile and that's because I'm working hard on getting projects finished and I'm learning new Jewellery techniques, I also got some awesome Topaz's in from Thailand just recently so I'll be setting my first faceted stones! Cheesy

p.s.s Up yours any university professors who work in the Artwork/Jewellery fields if you happen to be reading this

True. But what option am I really left with? Risk it with a high school diploma plus maybe some vocational training/certificates? It sucks how the current system has developed into, but I really have no choice if I want to be making a high salary with a secure job (80k+).

Honestly, if we were in the past economy I would have agreed with you, but Bitcoin for me at least has changed everything, all you need to set up most businesses now is a Bitcoin Payment processor, a website and a skillset or service you can use that people will want to buy and that's the way it should be. I just recently had a look at the jobs listing and the situation is still pretty ridiculous since so many employers are asking for industry experience and university degrees it's no wonder you don't have anyone young getting employed, it's the employers fault not the people applying!
4264  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The OTHER SC Ruling...Union Slap Down on: July 03, 2014, 04:04:28 PM
No employee should be forced to pay any union fees if they don't wish to, I used to respect unions until they started using these kind of tactics, like with most of these civil rights movements they've gone from equal rights to favouritism.
4265  Other / Off-topic / Re: Video Game Related DEATHS on: July 03, 2014, 01:48:35 PM
lol at least there are other people who always see the irony of these kind of accusations towards inanimate objects or assholes.
4266  Other / Off-topic / Re: FrozenCPU Accepts Bitcoins? on: July 03, 2014, 10:06:03 AM
I haven't heard of these guys before but holy crap! Nice to see more UK retailers accepting Bitcoin now.

Never heard of either of those two sites.

4269  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-07-02] Video: Bitcoin quietly making a comeback? on: July 03, 2014, 05:14:22 AM
Watched it. I wasn't sure who those 4 guests were, they do not sound very knowledgeable to me. The host had to point out bitcoin facts to those guests so they do not continue to embarrass themselves: "Printing Bitcoin in their backyard"? They really should do more research before they go on shows.  Undecided

This is what it's always like when you have news journalists talking about technology, my favourite thing is particularly with Bitcoin when they don't understand something and they bring in these 'experts' who know even less than they do and have basically spent five seconds looking at the first page of google which is of course usually flooded with negative articles that don't know what they're talking about either.

I have to say though, I'm getting disturbed by the positiveness coming from Fox on Bitcoin, first Glenn Beck of all people and now this guy, I'd like to point out as well that he was one of the people who were in total denial about what was going on in 2008 - 2009.
4270  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Chase Bank Asks Employees If They Are “Allies of The LGBT Community”… on: July 03, 2014, 04:54:08 AM
Regardless of your opinion on the LGBT community, everyone must agree a poll from your employer regarding your sexual preference is a bit creepy.

That is fucking creepy for sure, even though it's clearly politically motivated it's a bit like if an employer asked female employees whether they were single or not through an internal poll using the poll as an excuse lol Tongue

i know that.. but most people probably don't want to find out that they are just at the mean average.. probably because like you say, it's all about the penis size. i dont care too much about IQ tests anyways.. you can study and get a better score, so it's not necessarily checking how strong your motor is, but also how educated you are.

edit: most people i know who have taken these tests report a score of 120+.. and yet here is the % distribution of IQ scores.

(https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.iqtest-center.com%2Fimages%2Fgauss_curve.gif&t=541&c=hAUgEuAwGe3Wgw) (FORUM: disabled on this page for security.)

That can also be wrong though as well because how do you define 'educated' even in modern education we have an immediate bias in our systems towards a ruling government, they like to sneak in politically leaned answers to prevent people who disagree with them from passing and it's only if you're clever enough to spot what they're doing that you'll be able to pass which means you have to be really clever.

My all time favourite is an example from a driving theory test I had to pass in order to get a license which you need by law here and you also need to get bloody insurance by law and I remember it pretty clearly, oh wait! I just remembered I could search for the exact one!

http://www.taketheorytest.co.uk/learn/1822/question/

The 'correct' answer:
Quote
Trams are powered by electricity and therefore do not emit exhaust fumes. They are also much quieter than petrol or diesel engined vehicles and can carry a large number of passengers.
- So according to this it's electricity.

The actual answer: Trams are not environmentally friendly at all because they use fossil fuels from a power station so they are just as environmentally damaging as any other fossil fuelled transportation.

And yes, this is actually a real fucking question on a driving test, the people who designed these tests are morons.
4273  Other / Off-topic / Re: what is your iq according to "free, accurate iq"? on: July 02, 2014, 04:56:58 AM
Yep, organisations like MENSA are pretty much all about comparing penis size.

hurr durr my IQ is bigger than yours.
4274  Other / Off-topic / Re: what is your iq according to "free, accurate iq"? on: July 02, 2014, 04:50:18 AM
Give me some IQ tests without fucking maths questions in pl0x Tongue
4275  Other / Off-topic / Re: what is your iq according to "free, accurate iq"? on: July 02, 2014, 04:40:19 AM
As usual my prejudices about IQ tests are completely justified Tongue

Not just saying that because I got a low score, the majority of questions I got revolved around maths, so of course I'm going to get them wrong, as for the silly anagram bollocks there were so many options you could have picked with them that I couldn't be bothered and just guessed.

No IQ test I have ever seen is truly representative of somebodies intelligence nor is any other fucking test in the national curriculum around the world, partly because you'll find that questions in school tests are either poorly worded or just outright wrong.
4276  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NewEgg accepting BTC!? on: July 02, 2014, 03:57:27 AM
Do you have to log in and register? Sad Like I said, they're pretty poor at showing it, I had to point out to scan.co.uk they had left bits of their website without the Bitcoin logo on it though that seemed more of an honest mistake than anything deliberate.
4277  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NewEgg accepting BTC!? on: July 02, 2014, 03:47:47 AM
Didn't Overstock send the price up by $100 or something?  Newegg news is way bigger

We have to wait for the news to be properly confirmed first, so far this is only a rumour, when we see them actively using it on their checkout then it's news, the problem with these websites that suddenly declare they accept Bitcoin is they do a pretty poor job of showing it.
4278  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are only the American versions of sites accepting BTC? on: July 02, 2014, 02:00:37 AM
Probably have something to do with UK law.

Newegg is headquartered in California, and California just declared bitcoin a legal currency.

Yep, it's all to do with the law situation regarding Bitcoin and other countries so they've probably cleared the law side of things on the U.S but not in the UK.

If you're looking for computer components http://www.scan.co.uk accepts Bitcoins I plan on using them to buy stuff when I get enough money Cheesy

An odd point of view considering the UK gave explicit guidance back in March (Bitcoin to be treated as foreign currency, taxes on sales due at sterling at time of transaction), while the US hasn't given such clear guidance, California only repealed law that previously made them technically illegal there, and federal agency sale implicitly recognising they are an asset with value.

I'd say its more because large US based companies do stuff in their home market first, then roll out globally later.

Well it's precisely because the U.S hasn't given clear guidance on how to interact with foreign countries regarding Bitcoin and so on because the U.S has the IRS which is notoriously difficult when it comes to moving money in and out of the country internationally which is why I take that view. If they were based in the UK things would be much simpler, I'm based in the UK of course as well and a UK citizen so I don't have to worry about the IRS until I exchange my Bitcoin for dollars.

For those who don't know here's the official guidance on Bitcoin regarding HMRC.

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/briefs/vat/brief0914.htm

Quote
Income Tax: The profits and losses of a non-incorporated business on Bitcoin transactions must be reflected in their accounts and will be taxable on normal income tax rules.

Quote
Chargeable gains - Corporation Tax and Capital Gains Tax: If a profit or loss on a currency contract is not within trading profits or otherwise within the loan relationship rules, it would normally be taxable as a chargeable gain or allowable as a loss for Corporation Tax or Capital Gains Tax purposes. Gains and losses incurred on Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies are chargeable or allowable for Capital Gains Tax if they accrue to an individual or, for Corporation Tax on chargeable gains if they accrue to a company.

Bitcoin is also exempt from VAT contrary to what was ruled before and all over the news, mainly because there is no way they could enforce it rofl Cheesy

4280  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is the US press really that free? on: July 01, 2014, 01:39:45 PM
In the U.S any blogger can usually say what they like no matter what and you could set up a newspaper by yourself and print it with a home PC but one thing that does happen a lot is the biggest media outlets take sides in any debate no matter how wrong they are, you will usually find that they take the side of whichever particular ideology they belong to. So for example, Fox news as we all know is blatantly on the side of Republicans and don't even try to hide it, MSNBC and CNN tend to be on the side of Democrats.

How can you tell? Whenever someone on the opposite side fucks up they're all over it, Obama fucks up, Fox News go after him, if Bush fucked up people like MSNBC will go after him but the real clue into who they belong to is in who they defend or DON'T mention, so with Fox News you'll never hear them attacking Bush or other Republicans very much ( except for Ron Paul ) and with MSNBC you'll barely hear them mention anything Obama has done unless it's major or the news journalists can't be bothered keeping up the façade anymore.

You'll even see this mentality on these very forums and it makes it very difficult to talk to Americans about politics because if you mention things that Bush and Obama have done if they're supporters of either ( and I noticed a couple of mainstream republicans worming their way in here ) they'll get extremely defensive about it and try to blatantly deflect the blame. I always wondered why I could never get along with anybody before when it came to talking politics/religion and now I know it's because my views weren't mainstream, they were with the Anarchist/Libertarian type ideologies, hell I bet I could get along with Marxists better than I could with the common politics people follow today but they all seem to have vanished.
