Default 600 with temps on the lower end. I Save+Applied my miner config to reset the Miner Status page and everything seems to be back to normal. Now I'm just wondering what the hiccup was... oh well.

It's just Chinatown, Jake.

I have my A3 running at stock frequency with one APW3++ @ 115v (per my Kil-a-watt) with no problems since I got it. Why are you guys hooking up more PSUs to yours, if you are already using an APW3++? I don't even have the benefit of cold weather, with the high being in the 80s lately.
APW3++ are 1200W at 110V. Miner is about 1350W What you're doing may be working, but you're pushing the PSU outside the specs, and that is a risk.

Seconded. I suggest switching to 220 or adding a second PSU for one of the cards. Also keep in mind that if you're on a 15a circuit, you're pushing its limits and likely those of the wiring.

Yah I think mining SIA will be a losing battle, but not because there will be too many ASICs on the open market (though that will contribute).  SIA is kind of like Ripple in the sense that it is a token used for utility and not an outright currency, almost like a casino chip.  What exactly will drive up the price of SIA?  That is what I don't understand.  Storage will only sell at a certain point.  I guess the only thing I could see driving the price would be those who plan on using the service heavily buying as many tokens as possible early on to use when price rises.  As the supply rises though, it will eventually outpace the demand.

That makes it not the most profitable for holding, but for long term mining? If it becomes a standard currency and the use drives up, the profit doesn't matter, the mining will still be needed and the coins will have inherent value instead of speculative. But in comparison to, say, BTC or Litecoin, totally, I don't see Sia becoming a high value coin. I see profit coming from mining it, not necessarily holding it (though who knows? Currency values fluctuate all the time).

Ummm wtf this video is going around saying the Antminer a3 emits HCHO/Formaldehyde

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjjRClk1se0

this can cause cancer and irritation.. is there any truth to this video?

Possibly, but all that video says is that his phone or whatever meter he's using is finding it in the room he's in. It's not very scientific.
445  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain just announced the AntMiner A3 - 815GH/s Siacoin miner - Blake(2b) on: February 04, 2018, 12:06:05 AM

Are HW errors at all related to the pool you are mining from? My hunch is no... but I was sitting in the other room and my miner shot up to 100% fan speed for no reason (when I checked the miner status PCB/Chip temps were like 30/40 so that wasn't the cause). But my error rate was nearly 3% which is way above what it has been to date (read: the 22 hours or so it's been running).

HW = Hardware Faults. Not at all related to where the machine is pointed.

Are you overclocked?
446  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Nicehash didn't payout today on: February 03, 2018, 11:58:41 PM
this is a bad idea. people think buy converting to fiat on their gdax account, that its not "really" fiat until they withdraw it. false. every single trade you make once your btc hit gdax is a taxable event. just hodl that shit. also, avoiding capital gains is 1 year from the day you can prove ownership.

If you're talking about the US, capital gains applies to profit, not ownership. Your capital gains tax applies on profit made since establishing ownership, so if you were to transfer current Nicehash balances held from December? Depending on how long they were in your wallet, you would likely be allowed to declare a loss based on current USD value. So exchanging for GDAX might actually be tax beneficial right now (if you need the deduction)...

My two cents is that if you are dealing with enough money that this is an issue, you should talk to your accountant before making any big moves.

And to clarify (I know you were not saying this, just trying to make what I'm saying as clear as possible), taxable transactions are sales, so the transfer from Nicehash to Coinbase is not the problem part as the coin isn't being "sold".

EDIT TO ADD: Also Nicehash did pay out today if you signed up for the payback program.
447  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Antminer A3 earning $500 a day mining SIAcoin . .WHAT?! Results & Stats on: February 03, 2018, 09:08:59 PM
how much are they making a day$? in the last 2 days? thanks! got someone selling one for  3k, is it worth it?

At current ROI? I say yes. With batch 2 coming? Not sure; are you looking for a quick buck or plan to run it for a year or so? It's still a gamble, mind, but if you run it until it's no longer profitable against electricity, you should make your money back (and if you hold the coins or buy other coins with them, you could very well earn a nice profit). If you cash out weekly? Probably not at this point, that type of mining is really a day 1 or nothing approach with new ASICs...

I mean, there's a CHANCE it could be like the S9 or L3+ and draw a reasonable profit for a long, long time. Or it could be like the D3 and earn like $5/day or less. No way to know, so basically don't put in what you can't afford to lose. If $3K is a reasonable amount of money for you to spend, my advice is go for it, but the above caveats apply.

EDIT TO ADD: I WAYYY overpaid for my L3, it was my intro to ASICs mining, and I paid like 2.5x what Bitmain was asking to get a first batch one through Amazon. And while that seems stupid, thanks to cashing out a chunk in Dec, I have already hit my ROI, whereas had I bought the next batch it'd still be in the red. So it's all a crapshoot, really.
448  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anyone else having issues with their Antminer A3? on: February 03, 2018, 08:05:49 PM
Nevermind I just re-read that. I see what you mean about the PSU not being enough.

We do have a Bitmain Apw PSU, but we're running 120V.

How would you recommend utilizing 1 Bitmain PSU and 2 850W PSUs to power this thing at 120v?

I'm also running 120; my set up is, currently, one APW-3 on two boards and the mains, one 650W PSU on the remaining board. Once the profit decreases significantly, I will undervolt and leave it on just the APW3, but the current hashrate is worth the electrical cost.

If you want it to run APW efficently get a 220v basically 2 live wires and a neutral with a 20amp breaker ideally you want to run the sucker on a single PSU and 220v is the way to go

I already had the 650 lying around. I don't have room in my panel for another 220 right now (only space left is for a breaker box for an add on project), hence 110. Smiley

Every unit I ever received from Bitmain looked brand new.  I'm sure they they test them prior to shipping.  I don't think a company would stake its reputation on selling premined machines.  Furthermore, wouldn't it cost them more down the line in warranty repairs?

Agreed. It's far more likely that they keep a percentage of the machines and run them before or at the point of shipping, so they probably do turn a profit on mining before everyone else's arrive. But primarily they are a hardware company, and based on the volume of sales I doubt they're hurting for cash...

I just got my A3 today....so what's the best pool for SC right now?

I like luxor. They pay out regularly and have a good interface, plus they are large but not the dominant and they donate back to the SIA devs.

sia.luxor.tech

I would recommend anyone who is thinking about mining at Luxor read this first:  https://medium.com/@nitronick600/message-to-nebulous-labs-7c42df1f86d5   I mined there for a few days, thinking I was doing my civic duty to spread the hashrate and support the devs.  Then my eyes were opened.

I read that before I even got my miner. I see no problem with it, and in fact support many aspects of it.

So you support the pool that wants to render the miner you just spent $2500 on useless?  That makes no sense.

No, I do not. I said I support many aspects of it. That doesn't mean all of it.
451  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain just announced the AntMiner A3 - 815GH/s Siacoin miner - Blake(2b) on: February 03, 2018, 05:17:34 AM

  • Mining pool selection - I set up SiaMining at first and was getting around 80SC/hour. In the spirit of decentralizing and supporting good pools, I swapped over to Luxor, and my SC/hour was much smaller. After over 90 minutes it was estimating about 30SC, so I reverted back to SiaMining. However, I just refreshed the Luxor page and it is showing 362SC for just under 2 hour's work. Why does the number fluctuate so much, and why was that figure so delayed? Is that typical with Luxor, or is it due to the nature of PPLNS? Also, it seemed to take MUCH longer for my hashrate to reach ~800 on Luxor (30 mins or so) vs. SiaMining where I had full hash within a couple minutes. Or should I go with F2Pool instead? Haven't tried that one out yet.
  • HW error rate - People have been mentioning HW errors as "a lot of errors" or "an acceptable rate", but I haven't seen hard stats on what those rates actually are.
     Is 0.01% too high? 0.1%? 1%? I'm currently at 0.006%...
  • Overclocking - Given my stats above, I'm surprised everyone is having to underclock their miners... I guess I'll chalk it up to it being reallly cold outside at the moment. However, I'm looking to overclock my miner, at least during the day when I'm gone and don't need lower fan speeds for noise. I'm not going to touch anything until my Kill A Watt shows up and I can monitor power draw, but with the EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 Gold on a 110/120v, 20Amp dedicated circuit, what does everyone think I should limit my at-the-wall wattage to? Also I'm more than happy to get a read on draw at a multitude of frequencies since seems other people have also asked for that as well. Curious about HW rate tolerance as well.

I am jealous of your temps.

1) Mining pool--Luxor is having some sort of problem where their luck is currently at about 40%, so they switched over to PPLNS from PPS. Which means you get paid out in an average over time, but with their luck that low you're still going to make less right now (in theory). Siamining is PPS and currently paying out well. I'm with you though, I prefer Luxor and will switch back when whatever problem they're having gets sorted.

2) .01% is fine. .1% is ok. 1% is too much (opinions vary, but that's my standard).

3) Your cold air is your advantage, these things run hot. But I have mine overclocked (650 currently but usually 631). Overclocking voids your warranty, fair warning there. Your at-the-wall is your call; you can calculate profit with usage deducted at whattomine.com, it's usually pretty close. On a 20a 110 circuit, I'd suggest limiting wattage to 1700W for safety, you likely won't get anywhere near that though. HW isn't necessarily higher at higher frequencies, it depends. 631 drops more than 650 for me. It's more machine dependent.

anyone using Luxor ? they use PPLNS now. I still get 0 SC on my balance since the last payout ( approx 2 hours ago). Is there a way to know what our current balance is ?

Just noticed that. Payout still seems about the same so far for me, but now I have to do some income comparisons again...
They switched to PPLNS because they have some technical problem causing less than 50% luck as of now (here: https://siastats.info/mining_pools.html). So they were losing money with PPS. Now you will pay for this instead, getting half of what you should. I wouldn't use a PPLNS pool with 47% luck if I were you.

THANK YOU for this. Swapping over to Siamining until this is sorted!

I'm running 631 @ 88% fans currently (100 makes an annoying vibration in my floor). Running fine, temps in the mid to high 70s (pulling cold basement air), though I am still baffled by the whole "if you reboot, your temperatures change by 5-10 degrees" thing.

theyre 5-10 higher or lower for you?

They would be lower because rebooting them cools them down cause mining stops then fans sync. Wont last  though depending  on ambient  temp

Nope, they're both. I'm talking about a bug in the A3 itself (that others have reported too). If I make a change, as it is resetting it will either go up 5-10 from the previous running or down, but whichever it is it runs consistently at. So for example, my current temps are 79-75-81. The last time I changed wallets, the temps were all in the mid 80s, so I reset again and they are back down. It's been a pretty common thing based on posts on this board (though I don't know if it is universal or not), so if your A3 is running hot, you might be able to bring it down a bit just by hitting "save and apply".

455  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is there a way to group all my machines into one ? on: February 03, 2018, 12:47:35 AM

Nope.  Solves the problem of hanging rigs when you are not on site.  It's pretty obvious what he needs to do is stop building 2 gpu rigs.

I use CPU hardware.  Servers, some small some big.  I build what I can afford, and use what I have.  My small machines are used for testing, the big ones are for production after I verify my tests on a small scale.

"build bigger rigs" is an easy answer.  Buying new / different hardware is not an option.  I did not ask "how do I get more hash power ?".  Please remain focused on the topic.

Ah. CPU mining. Well, yes, you CAN build a cluster and control them that way, but I don't think it's as productive. I looked into it when I bought my little mini-army of Brix i5s and i7s and my take away was that it is no more efficient, and most people said it was slightly less. Might be worth it for the convenience, but writing automation scripts is just as easy AND allows you to control each individually if they go down or need repair. YMMV, and of course half the fun is messing with the machines, so do post your results!

Will ETH os run 18 or 19 nvidia cards on Asus B250 mining expert? Very little information available online.

If your mobo can handle it, I would assume Ethos can too, but not sure. You can try writing the devs, they usually respond within a day or two.
