441  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Investigating the alt-coin scene.. on: July 06, 2016, 05:38:21 AM
Please help me  Grin

Looking to invest in altcoins (and boy are there a lot) but can't seem to find any easy answers to these questions:

  • What developer teams are the best?
  • Which have a focus on commercially applying their technology?
  • Do coin holders get rights to profits from commercial endeavours?

Thanks

Altcoin market is really risky business.

Rule number 1 is trust no one.

Rule number 2 is don't invest what you are not willing to lose.

Rule number 3 is do your own research.

No answer exists to your questions: if X is the  best team why should someone invest in Y?
So why should Y even exist?

I am new too can someone tell me how mining altcoins works

It depends... Some alts can be mined, some have stacking, some have both.

Just ask in the specific altcoin thread

Hi guys, I have a rather stupid question about delegated harvesting:

When I activate delegated harvesting and set a remote NIS, what's left to be running on my computer??
NCC doesn't harvest, NIS does - and NIS is set to remote.
So this would mean I can go completely offline and the remote server is "doing all the work"?
Not getting my head around this... why would you even be getting rewards if the computational power is outsourced 100% (Not that I would be complaining though)?

Thanks for your help!

Delegated harvesting means you create a new account with zero balance that harvests instead of your main account.

Delegated harvesting makes it safe to harvest on someone else's node or on a vps; it doesn't mean this automatically happens.

With NCC you have to choose a remote server and start harvesting on it.
If you did this you can shut down your NIS and your NCC.

Beware: if remote NIS is restarted you stop harvesting on it.
You better check it from time to time with your NCC.

Helping importing NEM Stake Requested

Reward: .5 BTC

I have an email that includes

Address
Label
Balance
Importance
Public key
Private Key

I also have a zip that includes a .wit and .adb

I followed the directions here

http://blog.nem.io/getting-started-with-nem/

Issue

When I import the private key, the account name is different than what is stated in the email.  I was hoping I could do something with the adb or wit file.  Any help is appreciated. The first set of instructions that pull this in gets the .5 BTC and a big thanks.

The wlt and at files are useless if you don't know their password.

The good news is the private key is all you really need.

After importing the private key, press the gear icon to see the list of addresses in your wallet

451  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WAVES network SHUTDOWN without any Announcement !!! on: June 29, 2016, 04:20:36 PM
how is it possible to shutdown all nodes for maintainance ? Are all nodes run by the devs ? Can ordinary people run nodes ?

Currently only developers and exchanges have full nodes code.

Waves launch has been a real mess...
452  Local / Alt-Currencies (Italiano) / Re: Nem New Economy Movement on: June 29, 2016, 11:52:16 AM

Sicuramente sto dimenticando qualcosa...

Hi Guys,
Are the devs on this project anon?

Most of them, but not all, are.
454  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Nem growing so fast? on: June 28, 2016, 09:30:41 PM
I never told marketcap was due the unique features of Nem.

Yes we agree. It is not.

Just pointing out your wrong words.

So what is wrong in my words  Huh

Quote
1. NEM doesn't have any new technology. It is a rehash of same old technology.

2. NEM's price is being manipulated to the upside as of this moment by someone with control over most of the float.

1 was wrong

2 was uncertain

that's all
455  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Nem growing so fast? on: June 28, 2016, 09:23:09 PM
I must correct you:

1) NEM has some unique features. As an example the only multisig implementation where you can add and remove cosigners.

2) how can you be sure of manipulation? You are just supposing it.

1. Yeah it might have some minor features that other coins don't have. Please explain why these are really important and justify a $133m mcap.

2. The chart of a non-manipulated coin looks like the following with never getting more than 4X gain off any low (note rpietila caused the spike at the start):

http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/monero/

I never told marketcap was due the unique features of Nem.
Just pointing out your wrong words.

I don't really know the reason of the ride. I have few ideas I'll keep for me.
456  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Nem growing so fast? on: June 28, 2016, 08:56:12 PM
i know its very easy to assume that there MUST be some kind of deviousness involved somewhere along the line, but that has never been the case with nem. its a major reason why i supported nem wholeheartedly from the beginning and will continue to do so for years to come.

So we must trust you.

So just like how Mark Karpeles was our hero until he wasn't?

Why didn't you make a WoT to codify the level of decentralized trust in the system, so the decentralized trust is more verifiable.

What are the names of all these people I am asked to trust? Who trusts whom within that? What are their backgrounds and past performances? Etc...

Again I am not making accusations. I am just suggesting that if you want the market to trust you, you should be able to show information that helps to establish the trust.

i never asked for anyone to trust myself or anyone else. i just gave my opinion on the matter. you can trust my opinion if you wish or your can do your home work. either way, you will find nem is quite a lot different to any other crypto in many many ways. it really does buck the trend. what you take from my post is entirely up to you.

I am just making the point that trust has nothing to do with it. Your "Proof-of-importance" (don't tell anyone it is really just proof-of-stake) technology has nothing to do with it.

The price is moving up because someone is manipulating the price.

wrt PoI, Here is the formula.

The importance score, ψ, is calculated as follows:

ψ = (normalize1(max(0, ν + σwo)) + ˆπwi)χ

where:
normalize1(v) is: vkvk
ν  is the vested amount of XEM
σ is the weighted, net outlinking XEM
πˆis the NCDawareRank score
χ is a weighting vector that considers the structural topology of the graph
wo, wi are suitable constants

as you can see, "v" which could be considered the proof of stake part of the algorithm, is a part, but not the only part, nor is it the majority. so no it is not proof of stake, but it is a component in the overall algorithm.

"The price is moving up because someone is manipulating the price." -> is any buy on any market anything less than intentional or unintentional market manipulation? i have no interest with disputing whether it is market manipulation or not. if that is your opinion then so be it. its not my loss.

The reputation stuff is just proof-of-stake in transactions. It has the same properties of proof-of-stake wherein your stake determines how much rank you realistically have (and not just lose it all to transaction fees).

Yes everything is a "manipulation" (i.e. a trade), but the difference is that in order to move a price up vertically like that requires significant concentration of the tokens into one manipulator's control. That isn't necessarily bad or good, depending on your perspective of good and bad. It carries certain risks, which include that the manipulator can crash the price when he is ready to short.

I am just advocating honesty:

1. NEM doesn't have any new technology. It is a rehash of same old technology.

2. NEM's price is being manipulated to the upside as of this moment by someone with control over most of the float.

You don't need to take that as an insult or criticism. Just take it as a being fair and factual.

I must correct you:

1) NEM has some unique features. As an example the only multisig implementation where you can add and remove cosigners.

2) how can you be sure of manipulation? You are just supposing it.

458  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NEM: What is it, and why is it skyrocketing? on: June 28, 2016, 06:43:49 PM
Whitepaper is very well written. Finished reading it today.  See here: http://nem.io/NEM_techRef.pdf
What does the white paper have to do with the issue being discussed here?
Satoshi's white paper is the answer to life, the universe and everything?

Nem whitepaper is the best response to the question "what is nem?"

As regards "why is it skyrocketing?" I really don't know.
Perhaps investors escaping from Eth are betting on it.
May be the news about real world financial institutions using Nem tech.
Someone with a lot of money manipulating market?
People buy Nem to profit from supernodes?
I only can say I always knew that it would have happened sooner or later.

Stat tuned for a special announcement people Wink

I'd love it!
