Also, Atlas, that cartoon is rather silly and hasn't appeared to convince any of the proponents of democracy on this forum so far.  Perhaps it's time to put it to rest?   Tongue
442  Economy / Economics / Re: Anarcho-capitalism, Monopolies, Private dictatorships on: May 26, 2011, 01:49:08 AM
We don't need the state to insure it. Private companies can do it much better.
Please find me a private insurance company with the resources and right to enter and search other companies that engage in anti-competative behaviour. Those who do such things will not cooperate with anyone investigating them.
Feel free to expand on how you think this should work.

No one can tell you exactly how an anarchic society will work.  If they could, it would not be an anarchic society.  What we can do is postulate based upon market principles, logic, best guesses and speculation.  The case for anarchy derives from principles of morality (if you adhere to the NAP) and maximizing individual freedom and market efficiency.  Logically following those principles leads you to an anarchy.  If you want to know some of the ways the specifics might work out, check out the book at the following link.

http://freekeene.com/2008/02/07/the-market-for-liberty-pdf/

There's an audio book at freekeene.com and the pdf at mises.org (which is linked).  Both are free.  I really think it will be worth your time and might answer a lot of the questions I've seen you post here regarding an anarchic society.  It's likely you will not agree with all the authors' solutions and premises, but at least that will give a focal point for further discussion on this topic.

You can't blame God for the folly of man.  Harold is a fool, and I'm developing a plan to get filthy rich off of him and his cronies when he comes up with his next Rapture prediction.  Perhaps reducing these simpletons to a life of poverty will help them learn some things about life.
444  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pain realizing early stupidity on: May 21, 2011, 07:02:03 PM
Just think of that guy who gave away 10,000 bitcoins through the Bitcoin Faucet...

The fool....     Wink
445  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't buy bitcoins. Use carrots instead! on: May 13, 2011, 07:06:18 PM
And don't forget how this guy inspired people:

LOL   Twenty years from now bitcoins will be associated with carrots and no one will know why.
446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't buy bitcoins. Use carrots instead! on: May 13, 2011, 07:03:32 PM
You know I rewatched that video and couldn't find where he mentioned carrots specifically, only vegetables.  It's too late now, though.  Smiley
447  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best stupid quotes about bitcoin on: May 13, 2011, 06:57:43 PM
"You can price in terms of vegetables or in terms of anything that is a consumer good, or a producer good.  But bitcoin is neither of those."
448  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't buy bitcoins. Use carrots instead! on: May 13, 2011, 06:37:52 PM
Just found this thread.....laughing so hard!  Best part was when SunAvatar made the crack about mining and not getting any carrots...
449  Other / Off-topic / Re: Anyone getting raptured on May 21st? on: May 13, 2011, 06:29:52 PM
The Rapture already happened, and I think I got left behind.   Undecided

Wait! Let me check... white skin, probably red blood inside (but I really don't want to split it now), arms, legs... guess I'm a human being myself  Grin

So, are you saying that if you don't have white skin you aren't a human?

Noooooooo, he's clearly saying if you don't have arms or legs you aren't a human.

Now that reminds me.... what do you call a man with no arms and no legs in a pool?

"Nick".   I'm just going to leave this here...    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc4HGQHgeFE   Minute 1:45

Here are my 2 satoshi worth of ideas:

Rhyming ones

Money doesn’t grow on trees, it lives in virtual leaves.
Money doesn’t grow on trees, it’s formed with private keys.
Money doesn’t grow on trees, it’s mined virtually.
Money doesn't grow on trees, it grows on PCs.
Money doesn't grow on trees, it was given by a Japanese.

Non-rhyming

Money doesn't grow on trees.....it's mined.
Money doesn't grow on trees, it lives in the network.

Edit:  "given" should probably be replaced with "created" I dunnoo...  Tongue

454  Economy / Economics / Re: How can Bitcoin be used to promote ethnic diversity? on: May 12, 2011, 09:43:32 PM
This might be racist but they do it all the time in TV commercials and ads.  Sometimes they'll add a black guy or some other minority to an ad so it looks like everyone and every race is into it.  Or, to make a product "cool" they will use a black guy or black rapper.

We could promote Bitcoin by getting Jay-Z to rap about Bitcoins, Bill Gates, and Donald Trump and then Bitcoin would look cool.

Here is a sample commercial.

"Bitcoins is for white people." - Gavin
"Bitcoins is for black people." - Jay-Z
"Bitcoins is for asian people." - Satoshi
"Bitcoins is for all people." - (Said together)

Now Gavin and Satoshi will look cooler with Jay-Z next to them.

Correction:  Gavin and Jay-Z will look cooler with Satoshi next to them.
455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: live now - Gavin on twist on: May 11, 2011, 10:47:58 PM
HAHAHA so true.

Genjix, where are you from?

Mate, have you ever been to London? I'd even hazard a guess he grew in east London

No, I haven't.  Never been to Europe.  Some day.
456  Other / Politics & Society / Re: a question for left-liberals on: May 11, 2011, 03:54:15 PM
If your labor is worth $3 an hour but the minimum wage is $6 an hour, you don't get the $6 an hour at a $3 an hour loss to the employer. You get nothing because you won't be hired. You're presenting a false dilemma. The choice isn't between $3 an hour and $6 an hour. The choice is between $3 an hour and nothing. Whatever can be said about getting $3 an hour, a lot more can be said about getting nothing.

It's not always that sharp a choice. How about if the argument is between $3 and $3.25? Some employers will pay and a few will have to do without the workers. Too bad for them.

The workers or the employers?  Because $3.00 is still better than $0.  Forcing companies to pay $3.25 will result in some workers making an extra $.025, but will also result in some workers who used to get $3.00 now getting $0.  In our example it is impossible to say what that ratio would be, but you can't compare people's utility anyway so it's moot.
457  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Imagine bitcoin is the currency of the future! would you rename? on: May 11, 2011, 03:31:15 PM
I like the name bitcoins, but I see your point with using credits instead. But how do you intend to shorten credits?

"cds"  Because that would not cause any confusion.
458  Economy / Economics / Re: How can Bitcoin be used to promote ethnic diversity? on: May 11, 2011, 03:29:40 PM
I am Puerto Rican, my skin town is brown. Due to the thread starters logic, I deserve free bitcoins due to the color of my skin and origin of birth.

Give me bitcoins or you are racist and propagate white dominion over the lesser races. Don't be racist, send me your BTCs here and I declare you non-racist.

Yes, but I'm a black-Asian-Navajo autistic kid who's also paraplegic, so I think that trumps your Boricua awesomeness.  Sorry.  Send ME all YOUR bitcoins, or you are a hater.  Also, did I mention I'm mentally retarded?
459  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: list of bitcoin-like proposed currencies on: May 11, 2011, 03:23:04 PM
Ripple is really interesting, both for the fact that it's genuinely revolutionary (no kidding here, the implications seem to run deep) and for the fact that it's been going since 2006 and hasn't really taken off, not compared to bitcoin. Financial incentives are higher for early adopters of btc maybe... at any rate, ripple is pretty cool. Good idea with that blockchain thing!

Thank you.
If, like me, you're interested in alternative currencies, you may like these links:

http://p2pfoundation.net/Category:Money

http://p2pfoundation.net/Open_Money

http://www.complementarycurrency.org/ccDatabase/les_public.html

By the way, probably bitcoin should be listed there as a complementary currency.

And just for people reading this list, there's also Open Transactions, not really bitcoin like but complementary in every way. https://github.com/FellowTraveler/Open-Transactions

I'm not sure, but I think bitcoin and ripple can integrate with open transactions. If not, I think they will.

Blowjobcoin - you get one coin for each blowjob you give me.

If you're not interested it this thread, you can just ignore it.

I'm interested.  I've actually doubled my reward to 2 Blowjob coins per blowjob given, and 20 if it's a hot female.

What's the exchange rate between those and BTC?
460  Economy / Economics / Re: How can Bitcoin be used to promote ethnic diversity? on: May 11, 2011, 03:10:17 PM
It's economically neutral - there are no barriers to entry, so it should propagate to whoever is interested. If you want more <insert minority here> to use bitcoin, by all means go tell them about it! Cheesy

This sort of attitude, denying white privilege while claiming an equal playing field exists, merely perpetuates racial inequality. It's nothing more than an excuse for inaction and an attempt to moralize imperialism.

Is that right?  Well, based on your deep understanding of this subject, what color am I?

I'm going to guess either Vulcan or Asgard.
