I can provide a linux binary if anyone is interested, although compiling it is a breeze. Not so easy on Windows...  Wink

Interesting experiment imo, always wanted to know what happens to a coin when all coins are mined.

A1, maybe different color Tongue
443  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][YAC][POOL]p2pool for yacoin!! on: August 25, 2013, 05:26:02 PM
That's sad but understandable. To get back my server costs I'd have to raise the fee to at least 3% too, luckily the server runs a bunch of other stuff aswell, so I have it available anyways.
444  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [RED] BOUNTY -- REDCOIN MINING GUIDE - 5000 RED [BOUNTY CLOSED] on: August 25, 2013, 12:19:35 PM
Thanks! Added something in step 6:
Quote
Username, Password: On P2pools use your wallet address as username and x (or anything else) as password. On normal pools use the worker name and password, which you can specify on the worker page of the pool.
445  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Neocoin is scheduled for the Saturday 24th of August at 18:00 UTC on: August 24, 2013, 01:41:50 PM
IIRC it is a scrypt coin, but with some new features coded into the client. Could be a winner.

Redcoin mining guide for noobs

I'll concentrate on Windows, as all noobs use Windows.  Wink

1. Download the client from https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=246693.0 , unzip it (I recommend 7zip), then run it for the first time.

2. Go to "My Computer", Tools/Organize => Folder options => View, switch on "Display the contents of system folders" and "Show hidden files". Then switch off "Hide extensions for known filetypes". You can aslo find this menu by doing what's written here: http://windows.microsoft.com/is-is/windows7/change-folder-options

3. Go to C:/Users/YourUsername/AppData/Roaming/Redcoin, make a new text file, rename it to redcoin.conf, paste this sample config and save the file, feel free to modify the settings to your likings, just don't call me if it doesn't work:
Code:
listen=1
daemon=1
server=1
rpcuser=**Yourusername**
rpcpassword=**Yourpassword**
rpcport=11632
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1

4. Restart your Redcoin client to make use of the new config

5. Get GUIminer-Scrypt from here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=150331.0 , unzip it to a location of your choice. Be sure to use an external unzipper as the Windows built-in unzipper has problems with the file (at least in my experience), then run it.

6. If you want to mine solo, add the following values into their respective fields in GUIminer, also note that your redcoin client must be running while mining solo:
Host: localhost
Port: 11632 (or whichever port you specified as rpcport in the redcoin.conf)
Username, Password: The rpcuser and rpcpassword you specified in the redcoin.conf
Device: Choose which device you want to mine on
GPU Defaults: Choose your GPU, the default values are rather optimal
Extra flags: none if the time between blocks is close to the intended time, -s 1 -E 2 -Q 0 if blocks get solved very fast.
Use stratum: No

If you want to mine on a pool, change the following settings from their counterpart above, you can close the redcoin client if you want to:
Host: The pool address, without http://
Port: The port the pool runs on, normally shown on the how to page of the pool or in the address bar if it's a p2pool.
Use stratum: Depends on the pool, some use it, some don't, check the how-to page. P2Pools always have stratum enabled.
Username, Password: On P2pools use your wallet address as username and x (or anything else) as password. On normal pools use the worker name and password, which you can specify on the worker page of the pool.

7. Hit start!

8. I recommend you install MSI Afterburner or a similar tool to check the temps of your GPU. If it runs too hot (above 80°C is too hot), set the fan to a fixed speed (85% max, above will ruin your fan) or you can try to undervolt your card (must switch on voltage control in settings first). You can also downclock it, but this will make the card run slower.

9. Keep watching your redcoins fly into your wallet.  Grin

If this "guide" is up to your standards, send the amount of coins you deem adequate to:

Cheers

edit @ people above: You had your chance, this took mere 5 minutes to write up.

20k blocks to go, ~ 1 week.
448  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Neocoin, an innovative coin on: August 23, 2013, 08:40:08 PM
OP made more effort to be innovative than 98% of the lately released altcoins (I tried the last beta). Good luck.  Wink
449  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [exposure] kingcoin is a scam on: August 22, 2013, 12:54:58 PM
It's not a false-positive, the AV programs correctly flag this as a bitcoin miner (it should still be able to mine bitcoin without the -a scrypt-new parameter), as used by countless botnet operators. Tbh your posts in the main thread demanding an answer to that obvious issue (it's probably metioned in every coin release thread) seemed quite pathetic, especially after numerous persons attempted to explain it to you. But it's understandable, after all there was no source for the miner.

Nonetheless kingcoinproject's actions were even more so pathetic, unless the ypcminer working was unforeseen and he truly changed the algo (I'm too stupid and lazy to look it up in the sourcce).

xxrforone found one too https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=279415.msg2985578#msg2985578

@ Magic8Ball: I agree, but mods don't do shit in this section...
451  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Kingcoin is a scam on: August 22, 2013, 11:59:37 AM
2 thing that gives a hint if coin is a scam (usually):
- Closed source
- Newly created account for the coin, never revealing whose behind the coin.
( I Guess forum admins can figure it out quite easily I suppose )
Source for the coin was available from beginning, only the cpuminer's wasn't.
452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [exposure] kingcoin is a scam on: August 22, 2013, 11:49:25 AM
I see bigger problem with trojan included with recommended miner.....

Anyway, its a scam.
Try uploading any cpu miner to virustotal, you'll see it'll get flagged as a virus.  Roll Eyes

@ xxrforone:
Kingcgminer, interesting, where you got that from? edit: nevermind, it's the ybcminer. Testing it, so far nothing, interesting nonetheless.
Weird how everyone jumps to conclusions lately.
edit: Nevermind, didn't yet read the latest comments in the main thread...
453  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KING]KingCoin,POW+POS Coin with new algo|Coin Control|No Premine on: August 22, 2013, 08:29:38 AM
Holy shit this thread is full of morons!  Grin

I also guess there's a GPU miner, network hashrate grew immensely to 11MH/s. Pretty hard to get blocks now... However don't send btc to random people having no history of miner coding.
454  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KING]KingCoin,POW+POS Coin with new algo|Coin Control|No Premine on: August 21, 2013, 02:55:01 PM
anyone got the source going on linux and mining away yet?
Yes, had to install libboost1.53-all-dev on debian, which only is on the testing repository, doesn't compile with 1.49. 2 blocks so far.
455  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KING]KingCoin,POW+POS Coin with new algo|Coin Control|No Premine on: August 21, 2013, 02:48:02 PM
That was probably an orphaned block.

How often does difficulty retarget and by how much? edit: It seems to change every block.
456  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KING]KingCoin,POW+POS Coin with new algo|Coin Control|No Premine on: August 21, 2013, 02:42:22 PM
AVX is i7 2nd gen, SSE2 Pentium 4 (i think, not sure if AMD FX CPUs support avx)

3 cores of i7 920 on linux get ~7kH/s (using the wallet), Core2Duo gets 3kH/s on Windows with the cpuminer.
457  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KING]KingCoin,POW+POS Coin with new algo|Coin Control|No Premine on: August 21, 2013, 02:28:02 PM
Quite sure I should not use sse2 in there, but what about the other 2?
Look up which instruction sets your CPU uses, if it's older than 2nd gen i7 use sse3.
458  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [OPN]OpenSourceCoin-Hashing the Gen Block, Day 5 on: August 21, 2013, 12:58:36 PM
5000 kHash = 5MHash, so if minerapia above is correct it shouldn't take too long, or am i missing something?

460  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [OPN]OpenSourceCoin-Hashing the Gen Block, Day 5 on: August 21, 2013, 12:27:38 PM
I think the problem is the genesis block can only be mined by the slow built in miner, right?
edit: Nevermind, 1MHash is not a lot for SHA-256, silly me.
