I also want to buy more octo, but there really isnt any volume anywhere. Guess I aldo have to rent a rig to increase my stash.

Once I get things settled, get moved and all and get those cards shellbunner is sending me all setup, I'm going to see about renting some rigs too. I'd really like to increase my holdings, but at the same time I need to be making some income. Trying to figure out some kind of balance between the two is going to be tough. I've crunched some preliminary numbers on renting mining rigs, which if I directly invest (daily) what I can mine on 1.8MH the returns aren't going to be much. So I'm thinking when payday comes, just investing a good chunk of that as well into some mining rigs and see what that gets me. I'll have to run some more numbers but I really don't have any experiences to refer to. Can anyone tell me what a good daily target percentage is (ROI) when renting hashpower? Not looking to get rich quick but don't want to waste anything.

I've used betarigs a few times and they provide a great service.  The price goes up and down with demand which usually corresponds to new coin releases or trading pumps so keep an eye on the prices and rent in a dip. In my experience its quite hard to ROI or make daily income with rented hashing power unless you happen to catch the difficulty and net hashrate low right before a price hike in whatever you are mining.

Most times I've mined Octo with rented hashpower I've usually ended up with a bit less than I could have bought for the same price.

Same here. I could buy more Octo than I could mine. Just not enough Octo for sale right now. I need my daily Octo fix somehow!!!!!  Grin Grin Grin
Anyone figure out I have an addictive personality?!  Cheesy

Oh and Edric, there are a few more goodies in that box. I hope you enjoy and can profit from it somehow.

Awesome man, thanks! I'm usually pretty clever so I'm sure I can find a use for anything in there. I've been known to resurrect dead motherboards from time to time so maybe I can work my magic. I know what you're talking about with the addictive personality, I'm the same way, with a side order of OCD, I think. I'm hoping that soon I can get myself into a position to actually save up coins instead of constantly having to sell and trade, not a day goes by that I don't think about the fact that I sold off thousands of BTC at 50 cents to a dollar, lol. Shellbunner, do you have any advice for renting mining rigs? Sometimes I'm bad about not looking before I jump and these days I gotta be careful.

I'm still not sure why the new wallet throwing those errors took the pool to a negative balance, even switching around MPOS's getbalance methods it's still in the negative (just a little). I'm thinking that some of the coins that's "locked for users" isn't supposed to be. At least since I switched it back to the old wallet, it's not complaining on every payout run and freezing the crons. I was messing with the new wallet on another server and even trying to move a small amount that's not "locked" will make it throw an error. I wish I could give better details and do more to help. Until the balance evens itself out, everything should be fine as long as everyone doesn't withdraw all their balances at once. When I get those cards and can do some mining, first priority is to fix the pool's balance, after that I may set up a private test pool to try and figure out what's up with the wallet and MPOS misbehaving together. It's uncommon, but some coins act a little funny with MPOS in regards to locked funds and getbalance methods (with unconfirmed/immature balances). I'm just wondering if the pool's balance would even itself out if we had no unconfirmed blocks or transactions in the pool's wallet, it's possible that all MPOS's getbalance methods aren't properly accounting for unconfirmed blocks. IDK.

Thank god, the move is going down tomorrow, after all. I'm told that the internet will be switched tomorrow as well and that there shouldn't be any delays or problems.

I always hate moving my computer, though, and I'm paranoid that one day I'm going to turn it off and it's not going to turn back on. Any time the power gets cut off or it gets unplugged, I have to pull out all the cards and reinsert them in order, or it won't boot. Pretty sure it's the old video card causing that, though, which I'll be rid of soon enough! My mom had an old bubble type iMac that was fine one day, unplugged it and moved it to a new place, and it never ran again (and good riddance). It was a dreadfully slow contraption since the advent of OS X ("classic" OS ran like a dream, I miss that), and bugs would crawl inside of it and die, and were damn near impossible to get out without an engineering degree. I tried to talk her out of buying it and letting me build her something better. She uses linux now, I am proud.

Maybe true, but the coin isn't dead, yet. Plenty of buy orders, while it may not be the optimal price, they're buying, and net hashrate is going up. I've been solomining my pool for a couple of days and steadily getting coins but today net hashrate has gone up, diff is up slightly, so now my solo block time is 40 minutes instead of 3 lol

I think I have to get my computer shut down and pack within an hour or so, no telling when I'll be back online... Anyone up to taking the responsibility of watching over the pool for me and sending me a text if something dies? My sister and her husband both have iPhones so if a problem comes up I can jump on their hotspot real fast to give it a fix, but their data plans are very limited so can't stay online with it. Gotta love at&t, give you 50mbps 4g but you can't use it.

Looks like today is moving day. No clue how long it's going to take to get the internet moved. Not very happy about having to move today. Wasn't supposed to be til after the 1st, and I've been sick, with a fever. I feel terrible.
446  Economy / Digital goods / Re: CoinDice 2.0 Script - 0.00 BTC! on: April 29, 2014, 03:33:16 PM
Link is dead

I have copies. Trying to fix CoinDice 2.0. There's really only a couple of holes, bad ones, but not very many. You know what, if I can get it fixed, and fixed right, I may just give it away. I'm sick of people profiting off malware ridden crapware, taking 100 bucks for their script, then emptying your wallet later. Call it payback.
447  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [888] [SCRYPT] OctoCoin ◦ The Power of Eight ◦ Don't Blink on: April 28, 2014, 10:25:11 PM
I've got to reboot the pool really quick.. I updated all my packages, on accident, and it's causing problems... Meant to run the update in another terminal window >.<;

Edit: Done.  Sorry about that... now everyone's already on their failover Sad
448  Economy / Gambling / Re: Coindice [Warning] + Free Download on: April 28, 2014, 09:02:48 PM
I'm working on it too.. BTW your link is dead, but I managed to grab the copies of CoinDice 2.0 and CoinWheel 1.0 a while back when you posted it. If anyone wants, PM me and I'll give you links. I'm not too concerned with Johny getting upset about it, I've heard the stories of extra admin accounts getting added, wallets emptied. I don't think that's a bug, but a "feature", lol.

I'd like to collaborate to get CoinDice and even CoinWheel fixed up and secure. I'm sick of all the malware and scams floating around, let's do something about it.

Edit: I'm still learning PHP and SQL but it kinda looks to me like there's a few ways to elevate yourself to admin privs in the script.. in /admin/login.php, /admin/pages/admins.php  and /admin/ajax/edit_admin.php

And also what's up with the install script, it inserts an admin with what I'm assuming is a hash for the PW into the table.. I thought the admin account is made through the form in the script.. Haven't gotten as far as installing it on my test server. Betting it inserts that admin account, then you make your own, leaving a door for the author. I'm not sure about some of those other instances that update the admins table, not sure if the case is if the login is empty then it makes you an admin or it makes admin out of a regular authenticated user.. It's a bit tricky and I'm having a difficult time sorting out what should be there from what shouldn't. Unless Dogemogul can provide some fixed code or a good point of reference my only option is trial and error.. lots of it. Ugh.

Any help would be awesome.

Edric, tell me when your game is ready!  Smiley

I'm going to try to have a test version up and running today. Keep in mind this is stuff I've kinda found lying around so I'll have to modify it and figure out how to make it work.

There's so many things I want to do, seriously found a goldmine of gaming stuff.. Slot machines, poker, dice, lotto. There's been a few I've messed with a little bit that are going to need some serious overhaul to get running but some of the best looking stuff really shouldn't be all too bad. The only thing is, it's all unfamiliar code made by people I don't know, so I want to be careful to not get ripped off. My level of paranoia has been pretty high lately, after an exchange owner got pwned by a rootkit picked up in some wallet source off GitHub.

I've got some high dollar gaming scripts lying around here somewhere that I've been meaning to try out in a controlled environment, I would be willing to bet they are compromised in some way. Problem is that if they are compromised, idk if it's done in a way that just grabs the admin login or privkeys, tries to directly transfer coins, or what, and it's just too time consuming to pore over every page of code. If I stare at it long enough I can figure out what it's doing, but may want to rip out my eyeballs soon. I'm getting alot better with PHP but it's still pretty easy to slip in something sneaky that's easily overlooked. If anyone would be able to give me a hand checking for exploits that'd be awesome. The two I'm most suspicious of are CoinDice 2.0 and CoinWheel 1.0.

I can't wait to see the software and wherever this casino/casinos will be, if i can gamble there with my Octos i will visit it  Grin

Plus, i just saw an advertising for something like Pokerstars, called 888 Poker. They got a onlinecasino too.

Would be nice if we maybe could see a deal there in the future. (Name sounds perfect)  Cool

Keep on Voting on Mintpal!  Wink

I'm experimenting with some dice Smiley

When I get it working right it's all yours!

Edit: After digging, and you don't even want to know how much, I've gotten my hands on a gold mine of stuff that I can adapt to 888. I'll probably start with dice but there's a slots game I've come across that I think I would like to put out there too.

I have updated the wallet for my P2Pool node.  Thanks for the continued hard work devs.  Smiley

My pool is back on the old wallet, something with the payout handling isn't quite right yet. It started when I did the giveaway, I had a good bit of liquid reserves built up and I've already tested pretty well the "getbalancewithunconfirmed" MPOS feature, so as not to do anything dumb.. But, when I tried to send the first bit of the giveaway, manually, it bailed out with an error, I'll have to go into my logs now to remember exactly what it said, but the amount locked for pool users was definitely less than what my actual balance was. Well, when it threw the error, the liquid balance went down, but nothing was sent out, which I confirmed. After a few tries, I processed the giveaway payments, but each time it bailed with an error, it did in fact eat some of the balance, sending me into a negative balance. Then of course started having cron issues, and a few missing payouts. Upon investigation, though, the missing payouts had been sent, but were sitting stuck with 0 confirmations. Switching back to the other wallet and doing a rescan seemed to fix everything, though. If the devs need some log snippets, let me know. Still something not right there, could be the wallet wasn't displaying its real balance to MPOS.

Give me a  while to try and get things sorted out.. If you're still missing a transaction do not worry, I will fix it one way or another...

XD

Edit: I swapped the pool back to the old wallet.. The TX's sitting there with 0 confs are moving. Note that some may have bailed out hard and not got its TXID, these I'm going to have to manually verify. Please, PLEASE, if you suspect you're missing a transaction, please try and verify it against the explorer before contacting me. If all else fails just contact me thru PM or with the site contact form and we'll get it straightened out.

It's changed.. No problems Smiley

About to pull ID's for the giveaway now too.. So absent minded lately, sorry guys Sad

We're in the process of moving and it's been pretty crazy. We're basically getting evicted from here because one of the kids tore a bunch of bricks out of a wall, so then we get blamed for everything else that's broken around here, when there's 1000 unsupervised kids running around wreaking havoc, but we're singled out because, and I really hate to say it, but we're the only white family here. I'll be glad to be out of this neighborhood, though. The other night when I was typing up that long post, there was a huge fight outside, some guy beating a woman in front of her kids over a $100 bill. We called the police but when they got here they were more interested in trying to get permission to search our apartment. Texas...

I used to live somewhere like that. We finally bailed after I was sitting on the couch one day catching a buzz, and I looked out on my porch and some dude was looking in the window and trying to get in my door thinking nobody was home.I opened the door and stuck my 45 in his faced and asked him how can I fuckin help you!? And then a few days later I come home from work and my front yard is surrounded by cops with the guy that used to live in the basement apartment down and in cuffs, we found out later he was on america's most wanted and wanted for murder in New jersey. The lady upstairs had these 3 big dudes that beat the shit out of her daily, after we moved out, one of them shot the other and one of the bullets went through our old apartment and hit some lady in the leg. People are crazy man. Get the hell out of there.

Ehrmagerd.... Yeah, we have plenty of crazy people around here.. Meth and crack are epidemic, lol.. We live in a part of town called the "4-way" which is really not a good place if you're not dark skinned XD

Luckily we're moving to a pretty nice neighborhood in very soon. Can't wait. Not like I go outside much anyway, though.. lol

Guys, bear with me, the pool is giving me issues, since I updated the wallet and MPOS.. Sent out the giveaway, 1444 to 2 winners, pabad812 and z1011k, but I think my liquid assets were lying to me about my available balance, because after sending that out, I should have had 10k-ish left over, but I'm in the negative now and it's causing issues with the cronjobs. The new wallet and MPOS get along a bit differently it seems so I'll be making whatever tweaks and fixes necessary to keep things going. I guess its my fault getting excited because I (thought) I had 10k 888's left over to play with Sad

I don't know what's going on with the release of BirdcoinV2, so I'm going to link the new logo'd wallet here as well, since people are interested.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/42729667/birdcoin-qt.rar

Please note that at this time, the only changes have been graphical, so this is by no means a required update. Possibly more big things to come in the future, but I'll see what I can get done about setting up some gambling. The only problem is that, as I'm sure some of you guys are aware, the wallet does NOT do well with sending big transactions, over 20M, so I'm wary about setting up gambling, people trying to make big plays will have problems when trying to withdraw and it's a pain in the butt to recheck, verify, manually send back funds, etc.. So a few hurdles.

I´m still missing 4 Autopayouts at FusionHash. Unfortunately the Contact form is broken, so i will try it here.

@FusionHash-Admin: Please fix the missing Payouts and send them to my wallet.

Yes, I have a similar issue 4 missing payments, all with missing TX id's

It's a weird thing and I haven't figured what the problem is but a few coins do that.. One of them is a big problem for me because my pool has many, many thousands of payouts and no TXID's, and the wallet has problems with big transactions.. Not Octocoin, though, haven't figured out what it's limit is. I understand the frustration, though.

Oh, I got distracted last night, then ended up asleep early and completely forgot about the wallet update! I'm about to do that right now, before I forget again. Shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes and I'll have to reset stratum, hopefully your miners will reconnect without problems!

Source has been updated and Windows wallet is now up for download:

https://octocoin.org

Updated OS X wallet will release within 48 hours. This should correct the occasional transaction issues. Just to be clear, this is not an issue that was exclusive to OctoCoin so, while a handful of our modifications were inexplicably rejected from Bitcoin Core, we included them in this version as we're confident they solve a number of minor issues. We also borrowed some relevant changes from the latest Litecoin source addressing transaction issues.

While this update will not result in a fork, it is extensive enough that we definitely suggest upgrading ASAP. There will be another (likely optional) release soon containing some of the "bells and whistles" we have been working on; this particular release simply addresses the core.

If, after 24 hours of updating, the handful of people dealing with old unconfirmed transactions are still seeing said transactions "stuck", please send us a PM with the details (txid, addresses, pool/exchange/etc) and one of our guys will comb through all of them this week to ensure they are resolved.

Thank you for your patience - will be back within 12 hours.

Awesome! Around 11PM CST tonight, the pool will go off briefly to swap out the wallet application. It'll only take about 2 minutes or so.

Sometime around or after the 1st I'm moving to another neighborhood along with my sister, and I'm not sure about how quick it'll be getting our internet service moved and running. In case I don't have internet I'll need to give someone my phone number to send me a text in case of pool problems so I can get it fixed. Shouldn't be a problem, though. I have a long range wifi antenna as a backup :b

I've barely been able to access the forum all day today. Anyone having similar issues?

I'm excited to see the new wallet, when it's ready I'm going to go ahead and switch the pool over to it, downtime should be no more than 2-3 minutes. I'll post an announcement about an hour before the switch takes place to try and minimize any problems for miners.

I was talking earlier with a friend of my sister's, he's some kind of business advisor and he's working with an owner of some kind of martial arts/MMA school. We were discussing the possibility of the school adopting 888 as a payment method and possibly mining it as well. We'll be talking more in the near future, hopefully when I'm a little more well rested and throw some ideas around. I'm starting to feel like there's opportunities around every corner, learning to recognize them and go with it is what I'm working on. Today I feel like I've been hit by a train, I can barely think straight let alone be productive.

I have bunches of those kinds of coins.  I haven't been mining BRD, I should open my wallet just to let it sync though.

I finished syncing mine - I have 43.7 million now.

It appears there is still around 200kh pointed at BRD.  I account for 8 - I keep one old CPU miner pointed at it just to see what happens.

But I'm curious where the other hash rate comes from?

<Begin Self Promotion>
We could use that 200kh over on the Coino coin if anyone is looking to move.

I'm mining about 800 a day and the market price is pretty stable around 125 satoshi for them.  Its not huge money... but its better than BRD at the moment.

If you really want a deal... I'll buy all the Birdcoin anyone has for 100 Coino to get you started on that coin.

<End Self Promotion>

I appreciate the offer, though I must decline. I still hold out some hope that we may yet be able to do something more with our birdies. I really thought our Chinese friends were gaining a fierce interest in it, but it seems to have died off. I've been so busy, I haven't really looked around at other coins lately.. Been quite a while since I just went browsing around looking at coins, got a lot to keep me busy, but if you guys need a pool for Coino let me know. Always down to help out where I can.

Keep your eyes open for new developments, I just built a new wallet with a much nicer logo, handed it off to the guy who's taking charge of revamping the project.
