444  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Which pool software and frontend?? on: August 18, 2012, 01:35:59 PM
Der community,
im almost done with my pool setup, however, i now need to find a good pool software and frontend.

Pool software options i know about are:
  • Pushpoold
    Poolserverj
    Ecoinpool

Frontends, as i know are:
  • Simplecoin
    Ecoinpool with its own frontend,

Do you guys know which software eligius, bitclockers, deepbit and btcguild are using?

What is the frontend eligius is using?

At all i like the model from eligius over the others but i could not find any information about the software.
I would like to offer mining without a user account too, just by using the address as username like eligius.

Thx for any advice, hint etc...

Regards,
Chris

446  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is windows for dummies? on: August 12, 2012, 02:00:09 PM
I believe windows is made with the intention to make a pc accessible for everybody so, yeah, its made for dummies.

From the viewpoint of a hacker windows users are 90% dump so they're the main target.

To understand how to protect yourself get to know how hackers infect computers. Mostly they fool people to click some file, sometimes they use "exploit kits", in most of all cases of infection the user interaction is required. 'The most popular way to spread a virus is through downloads, for example somebody downloading the latest game on a torrent site is heavily at risk.

If you really want to use windows i suggest to get familiar with virtualbox or vmware, this way you can access any content without infecting the main machine. You could also setup a linux machine and have windows running inside a virtualbox for example.

If you have a fair amount of coins in the wallet its not a bad idea to have a machine solely for the wallet, this can be a virtualbox or a stand alone pc.

The guys who are really a target are the pool/exchange owners, for a hacker its like breaking a bank.

To steal the wallet a hacker needs to have the password, i think this is the only reason there are not more wallet stealers arround. Protect your password, don't safe it in a obviously place like "my documents".

So, i would like to get my funds asap on LR, is there any other exchange where i can exchange my mtgox code to liberty reserve?

448  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Pool Hardware on: June 27, 2012, 09:44:08 PM
HI Graet, thank you again for your time!

Concerning the payout structure i haven't made any deeper research yet, of course this is a point that needs further digging.

So the hardware question is pretty much solved by now.

I also looked into p2pool but i see no real difference in running a node with p2pool than running a pool as discussed. Would be nice if somebody can shed some light here.

Hey thx!
Yep, bandwidth is the reason i never approached to host it from my home connection, however, i could get 10mbps upstream here with 250gb volume. At the moment im on a 2mbps upstream.

I found webtropia for example offers full flat for additional 10 or 15$ per month, so this is solved for me.

The questions that remain for me are:

What kind of processor do i need for 20 GH/s?
How much RAM do i really need?
How big should the HDD be?
Do i need hardware RAID?
Do i need SSD for the OS?

TYSM

This is still on topic for me, so if anybody is kind enough to answer the above questions i would be more than happy.

Well, considered i put the required money on the table for a server hosting etc, what should i look for?
Im a bit overhelmed right now, here a few things you may can help me with.
1, The OS, any suggestions? Im familiar with ubuntu right now.
2. I want to use poolserverj and simplecoin
4. For the payout system Prop.
5. 32 or 64 bit?
6. Considered the pool starts at 5-20 GH/s, any precise hardware or hosting plan suggestions?

HI Guys,
im here as i need some advice while setting up a pool.
I already created a nice website so all i need to start over is the hardware requirements to launch a pool.

As i dont have any cash to spent on air i would want to start with the cheapest possible solution.

So, whats your suggestion concerning a vps/dedi?

Chris
