GBP/USD just hit 1.28  Embarrassed Cheesy

I was seriously thinking about shorting the pound before the Brexit vote, but tbh I was very surprised at the outcome, didn't think it would happen. Kicking myself now, could have made £1000s with just a small deposit with a CFD broker.

Grow the fuck up and learn some science.

You're pretty fucking angry I was able to predict the colour of the sky even though at first glance it looks blue eh?

I'm not angry, I just think you're an absolute moron.

You didn't predict anything, you just applied an arbitrary concept (complementary colours) to something totally unconnected (the perceived colour of the sky) and claimed that you'd come to some profound realization to confirm your retarded views on the shape of the earth.

You're a fool, go learn some shit and stop being so close minded.

"Battle Royale" directed by Kinji Fukasaku.

http://imdb.com/title/tt0266308

A class of high school kids are sent to a deserted island, given maps and various weapons, and forced to kill each other. If you haven't seen this film then you should, it sounds ridiculous (and it does have a fair bit of dark humor), but it's so crazy that it actually works well.

With Takeshi Kitano playing a teacher (you may remember him from the game show "Takeshi's Castle") and some great acting all round, this film has to be seen to be believed.

One of the best and most daring films ever to come out of Japan, Battle Royale is amazing. While it's not quite as polished as it could be, and isn't quite up there with the classics, it's still fucking awesome. Watch it.

£ is backed by the requirement of a 2tn gdp nation with many people paying taxes in that currency, thats quite alot of demand.    Bitcoin is not replaceable for sterling in that way, its possible they issue too much sterling and dilute their demand.   2bn a year of tax is paid by foreigners who never enter the UK, due to the amount of trading done and many companies and commodities are nothing to do with EU just reliant on the UK legal system and other factors centred in London, etc

Ratings agency Standard & Poor's stripped Britain of its last remaining top-notch credit rating on Monday, slashing it by two notches from AAA and warning more downgrades could follow after Britons voted to leave the European Union last week.

S&P said it was the first time it had chopped an AAA-rated sovereign credit rating by two notches in one go.

The ratings agencies are partly political I think.  Paid by the main issuers of debt, their allegiance is to those bringing the most business and that will be USA and EU in future I think.   Especially the EU which is taking over the fiscal failures of its minor nations and issuing new debt via the ECB I think

S&P downgraded USA at one point and their CEO left abruptly afterwards, I presume it was no coincidence.    Either UK has a deficit it must reduce and run a surplus but has failed to do so, true before and after leaving EU.   Its not yet clear for either argument if leaving will make worse or better that ongoing situation

EU downgraded

http://www.reuters.com/article/usa-bonds-eu-idUSL1N19M1S8

You make some good points. However I don't think that bitcoin is going to replace any sovereign currency any time soon, I'm just commenting on the weakening of the pound and subsequently the UK economy.

I think many companies will move their operations offshore in the coming months, and the £2tn gdp will drop. Especially financial companies, London may cease to be such a strong financial hub IMO.

Regarding the politicised nature of the ratings agencies, yes they have their ulterior motives, but after the circus of 2008 they are under a lot more scrutiny.

I'm saying it now, I think this could be really bad.

OK so I'm looking at this colour chart wondering what the complementary colour to orange is (it's blue)...

...and it dawned on me, the oxide coating on the dome is gold (or yellow on the chart) making the sky purple! So I did a Google search and I found this:

http://littleshop.physics.colostate.edu/tenthings/SkyPurple.pdf <--- Little Shop of Horrors when I found out the sky isn't blue.  Shocked

This is bullshit. The reason the sky looks blue/purple is because the lower wavelength photons that appear blue/purple are scattered more by the particles in the atmosphere.

It has nothing to do with complementary colours.

Yet another example of Flat Earthers scrabbling for evidence for their frankly ridiculous hypothesis.

Grow the fuck up and learn some science.

Sterling/dollar currently at 1.33, I think we could see some further drops in the coming days or next week.

After S&Ps downgrade, Moody's still rates UK at Aa1 (as it was when the OP was written), now with "negative outlook"

We shall see, Britain. Personally, I'm pessimistic about all this...

Some of the people in charge need to man up, invoke Article 50, and start giving some thought on some solid trading strategies. Markets hate uncertainty, and if this shit goes on for much longer then we could see a full-blown economic crisis IMHO. I didn't vote for Brexit, but now it's happened we need to move on quickly.
451  Other / Politics & Society / Re: VOTE BREXIT on 23 June, UK on: June 20, 2016, 12:27:14 PM
If you love Liberty & hate the elite make sure you vote Brexit on 23!!! this is probably the most important political decision of our lifetime. We can take our country back one step at a time. Fuck the bankers & The New World Order , Vote Brexit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you genuinely believe there aren't any banksters giving financial support to the leave campaign, you're as gullible and easily manipulated as you sound.  Either way, some banker bastard somewhere is going to get what they want.  I'm now convinced the only thing the leave campaign is trying to "take back" is making xenophobia and bigotry more socially acceptable like it was many years ago.  The whole sorry shitshow is disgusting.  The EU clearly isn't the source of our problems, but people are too desperate to find a scapegoat to care what the truth is anymore.  Sadly I suspect, much like the 'Alternative Vote' referendum we had a few years back, the British public can't be trusted to make a smart decision and will once again do something stupid and happily cut their nose off to spite their face.

Agree with you, immigration is the main reason most people want to vote leave. While it is a problem in some areas, in the grand scheme of things it's rather irrelevant. IMO people like to blame immigration for their problems because it's a simple, easy to understand concept.

I've tried to explain to some of my friends why I think leaving the EU would be an economic disaster, and I'm just met with blank stares. I don't think the EU is perfect by any means, but the alternative seems like a really dumb decision.

I cant really understand this outrage
For me a human life is worth more than the life of an animal

Agreed. Human life is worth more than the life of an animal. But that is not the issue here. The human life (the boy) was not in danger, as evident from the various videos and images posted to the social media. The gorilla was trying to protect the kid, and the zoo authorities decided to kill him instead of sedating with a quick-acting tranquilizer dart.

So you would have known that for sure if you were there right? That the gorilla wouldn't have killed the kid, 100%?

100% PROOF Orlando Shooting Was a STAGED HOAX...This Is All You Need To See
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiLk-V9DFpc

Interesting observation, but it's not conclusive evidence by a long shot.

Is there a timestamp on the original video footage? Without that I don't believe this is worth anything.

Think about this scenario - The incident went on for a long time, hours, so what if after the gunman was shot, partially injured people fled from the scene, maybe a few hundred meters. Then, after a few minutes they were found/helped by other people, and carried back to the initial crime scene (where the majority of the ambulances would be situated).

Makes sense right?

"Five Broken Cameras" (2011) is a documentary film, depicting the Israeli/Palestinian conflict from a Palestinian villagers point of view.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2125423/

A remarkable film IMO, "Five Broken Cameras" is shot by a Palestinian caught in the conflict between the Israeli army and the resistance of the Israeli occupation by the Palestinians. The "5 broken cameras" work incredibly well as an emotional narrative device in the film - as the film goes on, one by one the cameras are shot or damaged by Israeli gunfire, yet the cameraman carries on his struggle not just to survive and defend his land and family, but to film it as well.

Granted, even more than most documentary films this has a bias - everything is shot from the Palestinian side so we have no counter view to balance the viewpoint of the protagonists of the film. However, as a raw documentary this film is compelling and gripping, and really shows the struggle of the Palestinian people up close and personal. Powerful stuff, and one of the best documentary films I have ever seen.

A more recent film that I just watched is "Yakuza Apocalypse", a 2015 Japanese film directed by the legendary Takashi Miike. You may remember him from such films as  "Audition", "Visitor Q" and "Ichi the Killer".

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3675748/

I thoroughly enjoyed Miike's most recent film, although it is not his best IMO. A hilariously quirky, gory and surprising film, Yakuza Apocalypse tells the story of a Yakuza gangster who cannot get tattooed due to sensitive skin, becoming a vampire, and taking on a team of bizarre vampire hunters who are helped by a kung fu master in a frog suit, with an unexpected special move!

I loved the juxtaposition of the ridiculous and bizarre plot and characters, with the stone-cold serious (and pretty convincing) acting performances of the cast and solid screenplay, for me it really worked. If I'm honest, the film was a little long and did have sections that some might find tedious, especially if not familiar with Miike's work. However as a fan of this sort of off-the-wall Japanese comedy/horror, I was laughing for most of the film, and thought it was great. Although not without its flaws, and not as refined as some of his earlier works, "Yakuza Apocalypse" is highly recommended if you wanna get stoned and watch something random, or if you're just (like me) into this sort of thing.
457  Other / Off-topic / The arthouse/cult/classic Movie Thread! on: June 18, 2016, 08:51:23 PM
In this thread we will post and discuss really interesting and original films! They can be old or new, english or foreign, animated or live action, scary, gruesome or sentimental, but above all they should be interesting. eg. anyone posting anything by Michael Bay results in the banhammer.

I recently watched an excellent film directed by Alfred Hitchcock - "Rear Window"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047396/

Although this film was released in 1954, it still holds its own today. The basic premise is that the main character, a photographer, is wheelchair-bound after an accident and can't leave the house. To quell his boredom he begins spying on his neighbours from the rear window of his house. What starts as a way to pass the time, becomes an obsession as he starts to believe that one of his neighbours may be a murderer.

There are some interesting themes going on in this film, it portrays the innate human attraction of voyeurism to the viewer, and as the story unfolds you really feel as though you are in the main character's shoes and trying to piece together a murder plot. The supporting characters that we see from the rear window are all interesting and funny in their own right, and represent (I believe) the whole spectrum of life from young to old, single to married, to divorced or alone. Highly recommended, this is my favourite Hitchcock film that I've seen so far.

Another film that I watched recently, for the 2nd time, was a French film called "La Haine" (Hate), directed by Mathieu Kassovitz and released in 1995.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113247/

Filmed in black and white, it depicts a day in the life of a group of friends (one jewish, one black and one arab) living in a Paris ghetto, after a riot. The cinematography and editing in this film is incredible, and the whole feel of the film portrays the anger of the characters and is powerful stuff and exciting to watch. The acting is stunning, especially Vincent Cassel's part (who many may recognize from some Hollywood films). The film has moments of humour, an interesting plot and a great soundtrack with some raw french hip-hop, and the odd bit of electro and reggae. Especially pertinent in today's political climate, La Haine is a masterpiece and is a must see IMO.
458  Other / Off-topic / Re: Worst Movies You Have Ever Watched on: June 18, 2016, 07:28:39 PM
this years the worst movie award goes to 10 cloverfield lane Smiley a touch of a horror suspense drama with a zombie and alien twist and an alien technology that can be easily blown by a pillbox Cheesy watch it and you be the judge...

I actually really enjoyed that movie. Avoiding any spoilers for anyone who might wanna watch it - I do agree that the ending was a little silly, and it was obvious that the producers decided to make the "Cloverfield" link to get more viewers/interest.

But it was an absolutely stellar performance by John Goodman, and the lead girl played the part very well too IMO (I forget her name). The suspense in the bunker really had me on the edge of my seat, and even though the ending was a bit dumb, it was very gripping for me, saw it in a cinema with a pretty good, loud sound system...
459  Other / Off-topic / Re: [POLL] Improving PC Temperatures ? on: June 18, 2016, 02:59:32 PM
I voted no, my Skylake 6600K is idling at 23 degrees C and maxes out around 40-45 (ambient temp currently about 20 deg). Using some 240mm AIO liquid cooler, a Triton I think it's called. But if it gets hotter than 25 ambient I might blow any dust out the radiator with some compressed air.

But it's a cool running chip, my old AMD chip used to get crazy hot until I put it in an airier case, vacuumed out the dust from the fans and re-applied better quality thermal paste.

Simply cleaning/reapplying paste made a difference of 3-5 degrees C for me - clean the old paste off the chip with some cotton buds and isopropyl alcohol (while it's still in its socket), clean the paste off the cooler surface, dry then re-apply paste and re-attach cooler.

I think you mean degrees Celsius btw, if your CPU is at 5 deg C I don't think you'll need a fridge...  Wink

I love to have this in the background on low volume, great for stress relief.

I thought I'd share it with you Smiley

My old guitar teacher made a project called M87, basically ambient works based on the concepts of black holes and interstellar objects. It's... interesting but pretty cool, all made with layers of guitar tracks.

http://www.last.fm/music/M87/+wiki
First track on the album: https://youtu.be/MJH73pNOXMs

Edit: here's another, https://youtu.be/vZFGES2BrCA this one's still dark but a bit more interesting and chilled than the first track.

Edit2: I'll try and find the album and upload the whole thing to youtube, it's pretty out there. Make sure you listen to this stuff with headphones or on a good sound system, there's a lot going on in the mid and bass spectrum... This guy was a huge black metal fan and although this is totally different, you can here that "wall of noise" influence.
