So one would guess Free BSD tools would work as they were back ported yes?

Guys, find a Linux variant you can trust and use as you learn it and run a Win 7 instance in a vm with GPU passthrough for games. Then you can step up to something like Qubes and the Win 7 VM is portable.

Nix runs on arm. Check this https://postmarketos.org/

Added: forgot to say only use the passthrough on a secondary gpu if your concerned about the security of the vm to the host.

Solution: switch to linux

I haven't worked on a a Mac since the mid 90's but afaik Macs are now on a Linux kernel so there should be a workaround.

All the issues with bitcoin custody can be easily solved. More regulations to protect customers are needed...

Every retard that is looking to deposit their bitcoins to 'earn' interest is sponsoring bitcoin dumps. It is really that simple!

Welp you lost me there, let the retards lose everything and keep the fucking government out of my bitcoin.

Regulate this.

We don't need some fucking politician making laws because there are morons who can't do their own due diligence.
4485  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 12, 2019, 05:00:38 AM
...

The problem is latency.

CNC needs really precise timing, like realtime kernel precise, which is why the parallel port is on the PCI bus, USB adapters are a recipe for disaster.

I know you googled, but those hits are referring to purpose built USB input motion controllers that deal with timing internally.  This thing isn't worth converting to a new motion controller...though somehow it is worth days of my time...

If you can pass through the port you won't have latency.

Speaking of reputations, also watched Giacomo Zucco troll Richard Heart which was funny but then Peter McCormick sneaks onto the show and Richard tears him a new asshole. Dayyym, Reputatation stains, ouch.

Walked away with a slightly better opinion on Richard, less of one with Peter and a new like for Giacomo.

Help, I stepped in the poop!

Shit man this thing is 3 hours, drop a timestamp!

Certainly full of it. Grin

JJG, analysis.

Now that would be funny if he's a WO regular but I can't see him being Lambie slayer.

Paying interest in bitcoins is a very simple play. Scammers will get your bitcoins with pleasure and sell them for fiat at the very moment they get them. They will even pay you interest if bitcoin price goes down and will show you the middle finger if price goes up. This is why only retards are looking for places where they can deposit their bitcoins to earn interest!

...but discombobulated nonsense.

Yeah, I've only watched the 2 and part of a third and I agree on his Bakkt results but he does seem to grab onto too much nonsense.

Just the same, the guys fucking entertaining.

I do not.  But I think it is worth considering the track records of trusted third parties holding the keys to "your" bitcoin, and how that makes it effectively their bitcoin, and exposes you to all the counterparty risk that brings with it.

Micro$oft end of support for Win7 eminent.

Handy to have internet in the shop for looking up specs, constants, formulas and whatnot.  No room or patience for 2 machines out there.

Antique CNC controller (Super-Tech EMC-XYZ-BX) has no drivers or config info for Linux, figured this out after 3 different distro installs.

Turns out, Mach3 parallel port driver absolutely will not work in a 64bit environment, figured this out after setting up a salvaged machine with win10 already on it.

Started to re-purpose another older box, kept hanging on install, several hours to track that down to a flaky CPU, have to do a win7 install first because this thing won't boot from USB, finally get that all worked out and...

now having to sidestep Micro$oft account creation and muzzle Cortana and turn off all the spylemetry (that they let you), so far it has been 3 days of walking in place and I don't even know if this is going to driver up its PCI-parallel card and work yet

and being reminded that I have to go through Linux dependency hell on all the rest of the boxen by Jan 14...

What about in a virtual machine? I've had this issue with serial interfaces and found some good pass though port emulation drivers but haven't looked for any on parallel ports. I bet it would be fun trying to get some of the old Parallel port keys going these days.

Ok this post is too friggin long all ready i need a break.

OK...one more...

We might need it to parse JJG posts.

We'd need a Dually Epyc system for that! Cheesy

Goff is hit or miss, I actually dropped him in my league.  He either throws for 400 or 130 yards lol.  Shame he isnt consistent.  Lucky I added josh allen with my last pick, been running him out there for most of the year in that league.  Allen has been a sneaky good ff quarterback this year for me.

Yeah i drafted him as well and cut him but his ceiling is high and i may need that and I don't want to see him played against me in the playoffs now that they are starting to get their shit together again. I grabbed Cousins to replace him and he was adequate for the job. Smiley
4488  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: December 11, 2019, 06:23:26 PM
It has been said along the way at some point we may stop fighting asics.

Think about it practically, an ASIC is an investment in the coin. Research, design, running, costs. Its in their interest the coin is valuable. Not "damp it to 0" phone meme.

Without this sizable bit of the market it feels like we are outside the big stream.

How could it be fairest? So maybe we run a version for a year or more in test that will be the final major revision and give everyone equal time to make and market ASIC Monero devices.

Then even some groups of people might club together and spin up something.

This has been an on going debate and it is boiling down to the benefits v/s the rewards (which itself is a debate as security of the chain is a huge reward).

As I see it this is the arguments for constant algo morphing off the top of my head go ahead and fill in the blanks.

1) continued decentralization (security from attacks and continued egalitarian purpose)
2) the longer we can hold off asics the longer we have to find a truly asci proof method as once we change to something along the lines of a asic friendly algo its game over never going back as can be seen with bitcoin.
3) The need to create an entire network of asics for a decentralized asic cross over is posponed as many have just purchased cpus to support this algo.
4) we can also push back a algo change indefinitely as long as the asic manufacturers feel it is not in their interest to create and produce one. this has been accomplished already by the forks these last few years.

Now that we have drawn the line in the sand and PROVEN that we will back that statement up by forking the algo multiple times those that create and finance asics understand that they can effectively lost by funding a asic design and rolling it out if we fork again.

So I would propose we have a spare algo to fork to is a asic developed for RandomX and when the deadline comes for the next update we push it back if there is no evidence that one is or has been designed. Of course stateing publicly that we would do this would in effect negate the threat so it would have to be kept a secret from everyone except the devs who we can trust with the knowledge that this type plan could be implemented.

Either way I would say this has brought us breathing room. Another thing is if an asic cannot be a multitude of times more efficient than existing hardware then that is a consideration on whether to create that asic. there are many variables and alot of those questions can be answered by looking at the fpga hybrid boards and seeing how they fare when they have the proper bitstream.

Shit gotta run will finish my spitballing musings later. Smiley

I honestly was impressed with buffalo's game against baltimore.  If they bring the same game against Pittsburg I think they easily win actually.  Not having to deal with lamar all game goes a long way and Bill's did fairly well against him.  My money would be on the Bill's for that one

I'm with you on this one, i'm firing up the bills D with Zero qualms.

I'm wondering what game Nutildah is going to pick for this week's poll.

Houston @ Tennessee is primed to be an exciting match up.  The winner will take the lead in the AFC south, then the Titans travel to Houston two weeks later for a rematch.

Right! I've been considering for the last half hour whether to p[lay Tannerhill over Brees this week! I'm not sure the Saints colts will be that high a scoring game if Hilton doesn't play.

This week the Raiders play in Oakland for the last time.  They are hosting the Jaguars, so maybe if they don't fuck thing up for themselves they can give the Colosseum a farewell win.

If the Raiders can't win this one Gruden better run out the back door or there might be a Lynch mob in Oakland!

Where the poll!

Shit I had to pick up Goff (slim pickings on the wire and i can't trust Mayfield even with the best matchup in football!) as a spare and am not sure whether to play him over Cousins this week.

4490  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anti ASIC/GPU/FPGA POW-algorithm. New (2019). on: December 11, 2019, 05:06:56 PM

I hope I clarified your doubt to you.

Yes i think i get it, still need to give it more thoughts but it looks interesting.

So the rounds can still be distributed but they still need to be computed sequentially even if its by different miners to share the work, and needs a limit on the addresses that can be used for mining.

IP is not very good for this because it can become cheap and it would require that IP and its not possible for everyone to check if the Ip match the address, would be better with a solution that doesnt depend on IP.

But maybe need to find a way to register address for mining in way that cannot be spammed easily. Or another way to identify individual miners that would be costly to réplicate i think its not impossible though. Im thinking if every miner has it own different ring path that depends on his address in sort that it would cost something to start mining from a new address because of cumulated proof of work on a specific path that depends on an address. Or some way that would penalise changing address for the pow.

You bolded is contradictory as latency would factor in to such an extent that a sequential system cannot be timely distributed.

Whether or not this effects what is trying to be achieved here is beyond me but I figured i'd point that out.

Edit: OK, I see that each portion or these rings must be sequential and then they can be combined. Weird wording, maybe I'll delve into this later I have no time today.

4491  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: After 50% hike in Two weeks, Matic dropped 70% in Minutes on: December 11, 2019, 04:58:32 PM
The digital token Matic dropped an amazing 70% in just a single hour on December 10, making this probably the severest drop in crypto history. The token crumbled from $0.042 to $0.012 in a flash leaving traders totally bewildered. The dumped sum is generally $60 million as far as the market top.

This monstrous drop was to some degree sudden in light of the fact that Matic had been performing very well preceding the drop. It was up 180% over a range of about fourteen days before the drop. The emotional drop left the online life stage, Twitter in a craze with individuals scrutinizing the administration or thinking about whether it was an inside activity.

Source: TheCoinRepublic

So explain to me why this is any different than any other shitcoin dev team performing a pump and dump?

This happens here every week for the last 6 or 7 years.

Is this supposed to news or something?
4492  Economy / Economics / Re: From 2020, the sale and custody of Bitcoin will be allowed to all German banks on: December 11, 2019, 05:43:34 AM
This must be one of the positive consequence of adopting European union's recent money laundering directives. It seems as per those directives, German laws now may start supporting cryptos as an asset. Still, European countries are not ready to declare bitcoin as a legal tender like how Japan did some 3 years back itself. I believe Swiss government may do that first among Europe countries.
The German banks have the permission to sell and hold bitcoin but i cannot find any by law that says it will be considered as a legal tender, it might be considered as a commodity and if the government gives the permission to use bitcoin as a legal tender then it will be a huge news for the market and it will reflect in the market and i am still waiting for more news about the recent development.

Under the proposed bill, financial institutions will purportedly allow cryptocurrencies to be used in similar manners as traditional assets. Customers would still be able to operate securities such as stocks and bonds. Additionally, when using online banking, clients will reportedly also be able to navigate their cryptocurrency assets, just as they have done with fiat money until now.

Unless there was a way to have a trustless way to create a platform that tracks digital assets such as monero... like Tari, maybe? Wink

Anyone have any updates as to how that side of the Monero world is doing now and days?

You know I just can't remember why I would ever need Tari, care to remind me?

From how I understand it, the idea is to have an “ethereum-like” chain that is secured by Monero’s POW... so I just basically imagine Ethereum with the “child-lock” turned on in regards to preventing rolling back previous transactions to make them invalid.
Wink

What no Monero Classic fork from a fucked up DAO and chain rollback?  Tongue
Yeah I think we can all agree immutability is pretty important, but i still don't see a reason for smart contracts at all. I guess i'm old fashioned, i just want my money to be money.

I get it... I thought that way when I initially read about what Ethereum was. However, I do think there is value to creating contracts on a blockchain without need for a third party to enforce it (government).

Sure, there is value added to the Eco system by building ontop but not by interfering with the base layer and that includes bloat like storing contract info.

Tari seems to have value but it is in enlarging the eco system which in turn should increase the value of the base layer.

MATIC was launched by Binance's launchpad and has throughout remained one of CZ's favorite projects (according to CZ's tweets about it). It really feels like it was a coordinated dump by the MATIC's Indian team and Binance (don't forget that Binance even offers margin trading on MATIC, which made a few people super-rekt overnight).

$MATIC holders basically became 1% poorer every 15 seconds for 30+ mins in a row

4499  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The Essential NFL Thread 🏈🏈 - new poll every week on: December 10, 2019, 06:29:30 PM
@Hueristic
I like that you took Phillip Lindsay @ Houston over Mark Ingram @ Buffalo.  Brady at home vs. KC is also a good gamble, although I wouldn't be surprised to see Breeze have a good statistical day (despite prying for him to lose big!)

had that dramatic NFC championship game at the 49ers with that muffed punt from the 49ers shortly before end of regular time

That's still a painful memory, but I felt vindicated that my team lost to the eventual champions.  That was a great superbowl game as well that year.

To make this a real gamble, I would take Fitzpatrick and pray for another crazy game from him. Brady will put up some numbers, but nothing huge I think. Chiefs run defense is terrible and I think Bill will exploit that and run all day on them. As I wrote earlier, the secondary of the Jets is pretty decimated with Poole and Adams out and Maulet being doubtful as of now. Odds suggest that the Dolphins will have to play catch-up, so some more throwing from Fitzpatrick is to be expected, although we might be in for a low scoring affair. The rest is fine I think.

...

Wow, pretty good that you have both Brees and Brady. Was it like that all season for you? The only change I would make is switching Kelce for Henry. NE defense could potentially stop some yards for you there. I've had Henry as my starting TE for most of the season and he's paid off more often than not.

OK so these are the only 3 recommendations i was able to find and it looks like DireWolfM14 has made the best Lineup by saying to not change anything!

So you wouldn't make any changes?
Not even Flex?

Is funny that i even asked DireWolfM14 if he wanted to make any changes and apparently not and he was right afa those who chose to participate.

It turns out the only changes that i should have made were Brees and Brady swap which DireWolfM14 actually mentioned as being a possible scenario (although i wouldn't say he lost big!) and Swapping out Parker as the flex for anyone as he got knocked out of the game with an injury.

https://i.imgur.com/LydVOgg.jpg

OK after another look while making the screeny it looks like i missed the fact Fitzmagic  beat out Brady so tyKiwanuka wins.

If I missed anyone or made an error let me know.

In other news looked like I made the playoffs in both my leagues so thats cool. One league was a 7 way possibility for 3rd and 4th as 3 had 7-6 and 4 had 6-7 records and it ended up I made the playoffs with a 7-7 record and so did one other team! Now thats what you call a tight season.

A reminder that the battle for open source financial and communication freedom is not ever 'won'.  A little vigilance is essential.

https://medium.com/swlh/how-microsoft-might-become-a-threat-to-bitcoin-f886fe7fbb3a

'The American software behemoth has been censoring the development of open-source software on Github. This has serious implications for blockchain development projects, including Bitcoin.'

This is not a threat, the bitcoin project can be moved to other services in a matter of minutes.

The biggest threat for bitcoin today is the bad privacy. Using bitcoin is not as anonymous as it should be.

Bakkt is the much larger threat.
